Adobe uninstaller keeps claiming firefox open, when it is not
I have been having numerous plug in failures in the last few days and have uninstalled on at least 3 occasions today and reinstalled and still the problems Persists. On my latest effort to activate uninstallation, adobe claims that Mozilla is open, when I had deliberately closed it before activating the uninstaller.
It wasn't and just sits there like a massive unwanted t*rd, no good to man or beast. Running under Windows 7 and there was an Adobe update in the last few days. Seems to me that every time there is an Adobe update the problem resurfaces.
Does not Adobe checj their stuff. Reloading 11.7 doesn't work, nor 11.8 and 12 seems to be as useless as a bad smell in a phonebox!
Make sure there is no firefox.exe process running in Task manager, that is also the reason Firefox says it's open but non responding.
Another option is to download Flash setup, then reboot computer, then start setup without going through Firefox.

This is a kind of issue where it is difficult to know the cause and the cure.
You may try the list below, and/or one of the links further below, and/or hope for one of our forum staff friends to see this.
List:
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Running Windows XP service pack 3. Updated Firefox from 8.0 to 9.0. Now when Firefox opens "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded" is displayed in a window and no home page appears. What's wrong?
That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

How to keep original email open when replying?
I bet this is somthing simple, but I just can't figure it out. When I click reply on an email, the original closes. It's no big deal, but I like to have the original open to refer back to. Is there a way to set my mail to keep the original open when replying. Thanks in advance

I am not getting the other option about keeping
the preview pane visible.
It seems you're not aware that the part of the main window where messages are listed can be split in two parts: the messages list at the top and the preview pane at the bottom. You can do this by either (1) dragging upwards the thin horizontal separator bar that's at the bottom of the window, or (2) just double-clicking on that bar (it has a tiny hole in the middle).
How come when I delete an email in my .mac account,
I have to delete it twice from the trash?
Well, the answer to that question is way more involved than you might think.
The behavior you've observed happens in Mail to any IMAP-type account for which deleted messages are stored locally (i.e. Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Store deleted messages on the server has been turned OFF). The "reason" is that storing deleted messages locally for IMAP-type accounts causes Mail to move deleted messages in that account to a Deleted Messages (AccountName).mbox folder located within ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/.
Deleting a message already in a Trash mailbox should cause the message to be permanently erased, BUT deleting a message from a mailbox located within ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/ (i.e. an "On My Mac" mailbox) should cause the message to be moved to the "On My Mac" Trash. Thus, in the particular case of a Deleted Messages (a Trash) mailbox stored within ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/, there are two conflicting behaviors, and it seems that Mail takes the latter into consideration first, i.e. deleting a message from the account's Trash under those conditions causes it to be moved to the "On My Mac" Trash instead of being permanently erased as would happen if the Deleted Messages folder was located within the account folder.
This could very well be an oversight (a bug) rather than intended behavior, but that's how it works in the current version of Mail. If you're curious, the following somewhat amusing (but also lengthy and confusing) threads would give you an idea of how long it took me to figure out this one:

you'll need to edit the security settings to install programs 'Mac App Store and identified developers'
Open the Systems Preference and go to Security & Privacy. There will be a section in the 'General' tab for 'Allow apps downloaded from:" The default selection is 'Mac App Store'. Change this setting to 'Mac App Store and identified developers".
This screenshot is taken on OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), so it may look slightly different if you're on a different OS X version.

File marked as open when it's not!
I've got 30 or so files that have been marked as 'open' when they are not (a lab lost power and everyone had a file open on the server). There must be a unix cmd to change the 'open bit' on a file so that we can open these again.
Usually, copying a file with this problem to another volume fixes this problem (as root), but it is not working this time.
These are appleworks files on a 10.4. server.
Any suggestions?
ThanksWeird that you got no replies. Just guessing here, but one typical way to flag a file as open is by creating a "lock" file. The lock file is just an empty file created with a filename that is hashed-up from the file that you want to lock. And, it is usually made hidden by making the first character of the lock-file name ".".
For instance, to lock the file myProject.html, the application may create an empty file named .myProj~_63.lok, or something like that. It's often in the same directory, but it could be in /usr, /usr/local, /tmp, or anywhere, really. You'll have to look around.
Knowing what application these 30 students were running when the power went out would be helpful.

I used to be able to close firefox and have all my opened tabs saved. When I open firefox again, those tabs will be opened as I last closed firefox.
Now, I am not able to do it. The firefox was crashed at one time earlier and I have to open the task manager to force it to close because it is frozen and so was my computer. After I opened it again, there is no tabs saved which I kinda expected. Then I
go on web surfing and browse various websites. Now, when I close firefox, a box pops up warning me about the opened
tabs will be closed. So I googled the symptom and it brought me to this website, telling me that if I set
"tools->open->general->When firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time", it should behave as it was before.
I tried that but it doesn't work.

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data. -
I am running on an iMac OS X 10.6.3 using Firefox 3.6.3 as my default browser and I use Postbox 1.1.5 as my email client. Anytime I click on a link within an email message two instances of Firefox open, one with my home page and one with the site the link was meant for. This happens only when Firefox is not already open. If Firefox is running and a link is clicked on it opens normally within the open instance of Firefox. I have contacted Postbox and am currently awaiting a response to see if they have any suggestions. While this is not a serious issue it is a bit annoying. I have Firefox set to open new links in tabs not new instances of windows, so it shouldn't be that. Any help in getting this to stop would be greatly appreciated.

At first, after I re-installed the OS, nothing would happen when I clicked on an e-mail hyperlink. So I went to Folder Options in Control Panel and associated Firefox with the E-mail file type. Firefox then opened when I clicked on a hyperlink in an e-mail, but just opens to the Firefox start page ("Blank page"). Firefox does not open the URL in the hyperlink. I need guidance as to how to restore this function which worked perfectly before I had to re-install the OS due to a corrupted program installer. I have run the MS Office Detect and Repair function twice--both times indicating that everything is fine--but it does not make a difference in fixing the Firefox function.
NEW: An attempt to click on the link in Security Center to go to Microsoft Update brings up an error message that reads: "The requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context." I have no idea what this means, but I suspect it is related to the lack of ability to open Firefox to a link URL.

I am not exactly sure why the menu did not detect the password change or if it was stored incorrectly after you changed it? But after storing the correct password you can manage any duplicate passwords in the password manager.[[Password manager - Remember, delete and change saved passwords in Firefox]] -
Firefox opens when downloading PDF file while running IE9
Having problems displaying a PDF file (very low resolution & bad contrast). So I tried IE9. When I click on the link, Firefox opens to display the PDF "Swett/Sweet", even when Firefox is not running.

Other files seem to be OK. Was told by the Admin at familysearch.org that they could not duplicate the problem but were using Chrome.Usually when you uncheck that setting, the browser will ask you whether you want to Open or Save the file. Do you get that prompt, or just nothing?
I've probably used IE9 for less than 5 minutes, so if there is something new about the way it handles PDFs compared to earlier versions, I wouldn't know. -

Could someone help me find the code to "keep the selected panel open" instead of having them closed on each pages.
There is 2 spry collapsed panels. Within the first one there is 1 Spry Accordion with 5 panels which need to stay open when selected.

If I understand right, you want the about panel to be open when on the about page and the homw panel when you are on the home page. Simply set the default panel for each page as follows

Can you open up Task Manager by pressing ctrl + alt + del and selecting Task Manager. Then on the processes tab make sure they are no firefox.exe processes going on. If there is, end it.

How can I keep iTunes from opening when I insert a CD?
I have gone through the preferences again and again, and I can't find a way to keep iTunes from opening whenever I insert a CD. iTunes is not my preferred player/encoder, and I don't want it to open unless I tell it to.
Case in point, I'm converting many CDs to mp3, using an application that gives me the filename format I want (iTunes isn't that flexible enough to do that). It is annoying for iTunes to keep butting in, every time I insert a CD!

L.When you first insert a CD your Mac comes up with a box saying
"You have inserted a CD" (duuh, Apple...)
Then you choose from a pop-up menu that offers "Open in Finder", "Open in iTunes", etc
At some point you (or someone) has chosen "Open in iTunes" then checked the little box that says "Make this the default from now on".
If you go into System Prefs (as already mentioned) you have a choice to reset what you want to do with a blank CD. -
"Claim and open this task" option not working
A task has been assigned to a group.
There are two option icons at the lower-left bottom corner named:
1. Claim this task and make it to your own
2. Claim and open this task
Problem with the first option
When I choose this option, the task is assigned to me; I could open this form and it renders properly; But if i choose the attachments tab and come back to Form, the display area is blank.
Problem with the second option
when I click on the second option, i am unable to see both attachments and the form.
This problem occurs only if I assign task to a Group.
Any help on this..

NithThis happens occasionally. If I relogin to workspace, it works fine.
I think there is something wrong with the flex app.
Hence closing this issue now.

It sounds as if you need to keep other people from making changes to your MacBook Air when you are away from it. One way to do this would be to allow the computer to go to sleep after a short period of inactivity, and to require a password to wake it. See this article for how to do this -
