Adobe Updater hangs, never finishes installing

The Adobe Updater (Adobe CS3), will download the necessary files, and then start the installation, but will hang during the PatcherApplication portion of the install. It will literally hang for hours. I just have to quit it, and then it asks if I would like to continue with the other installations, and the same exact thing will happen. It just hangs...
I have:
Repaired permissions
Removed the installer folders
Attempted to use the Adobe Updater in root
Used the uninstaller on the same DVD I used to install the suite (checked remove all application preferences also), restarted, reinstalled, restarted, and then tried to update again.
Same thing..
Activity Monitor will always show two open "Adobe Software Update"s, but one of them is labeled "not responding", which I assume is the patcher application that opens along with the Adobe Updater, which is when the progress bar stops. Console doesn't seem to report any errors.
Adobe Create Suite Standard CS3
10.4.10
Dual 1.8 G5
3 GBsRAM
Has internet, I'm doing this remotely via ARD.
All other machines in the office updated just fine, same network, same OS.
If I just have to manually find them all, download them and install that way, I suppose I can try that. Just seemed pretty darn silly to have this completely be broken without a simple fix.
Thanks in advance.

I did this (uninstalled, and then ran CS3Clean, re-installed, repaired permissions. restarts inbetween), but I am having the same issue. Hangs during install, will let it go for hours with it just sitting there about halfway through it's installation. What's odd though, is that it didn't download the data again for the installs, so that was saved somewhere, and it wasn't removed during the above operations.
I'm just about done with Adobe Updater... going to have to download each manually. I know many others have issues with Adobe Updater, as I have also (I'm a support person), but this is just beyond my comprehension. For such an easy thing to... oh well.
Thanks for the help. If you have any other ideas, I will certainly look into them.
*UPDATE* I found the data, in the Updater5 folder. I removed it, booted into root and tried again. No dice... unbelievable really.

Why do some apps never finish installing on my iPad?

Something could be clogging the download pipe.
If the downloads are stalled or "waiting" - try these suggestions.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

  • My macbook pro stalls during software update and never finishes the update

My Macbook Pro is a 17-inch laptop purchased in early 2011. It's on system 10.7.5.  Software Update keeps telling me I need to update.
I click ok, it starts to update, then gets stalled "moving 3 items into place".
I've tried many times to do this update, but it NEVER finishes the update, just stays stalled "moving items into place" and it can stay that way for HOURS.  Then I need to go back to work, so I re-start.  What's the problem, and how can I fix it?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

  • I can not uninstall CS2 because it never finished installing

I have been attempting to install Adobe Acrobat CS2 on my Windows Vista computer. I was told that my original Acrobat 7.0 program had problems and would not work so I was told to download the CS2 program. Everytime I try to install it I get an error message stating that it can not access the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX. This folder is a "read only". It has 4 files in it AcroIEHelper.dll, AcroPDF.dll, GbDetect.dll and pdfshell.dll. I can not delete any of these files.
I was sent an e-mail that took me to a "discussion" telling me to uninstall Acrobat 7.0 using Control Panel - Add Remove Programs. However, since the program never fully installed it is not listed on Add Remove Programs. Does anyone have any idea how I can get this program to work?
Microsoft has told me to use the cmd prompt and the command rd  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0" /s /q  to delete the folder, but it does not work. All I get is "Access is Denied"  I've tried using the Explorer but am told that that procedure needs permission. I'm logged in as the Administrator.

See the response to the other thread you started.
Acrobat 7 is not compatible with any 64-bit version of Windows.
And there is no such beast as Adobe Acrobat CS2. The version of Acrobat that came with CS2, if I recall correctly was Acrobat 7 Pro.
And for that matter, current Macintoshes won't be able to run any CS2 software either. You are talking about software that is at this point 10 years and anywhere between 4 and 6 versions out of date.
              - Dov
PS:     I suspect that you never did have Acrobat 7 or Creative Suite 2 installed on this VIsta x64 system. What was it previously installed on? The only systems that supported Acrobat 7 under Windows were Windows XP 32-bit and Windows 2000. And what media are you using to install the software from? The original media and software for these versions do no longer install and activate.

  • TS1702 App Update Hangs, Never Completes

I've had a couple of instances where an update to an app on my iPad 2 is available, and I've selected to update that app. Then, during the process of updating, the update hangs, perpetually in either "loading" or "installing". When this occurs, the app cannot be used, updated, or deleted. Syncing doesn't seem to fix this, nor does removing the app in iTunes and then syncing, and turning the iPad off and then back on doesn't do anything either. Suggestions? Thanks!

No joy, unfortunately. I attempted this mulitple times, both prior to and after syncing, and with the app removed via iTunes and then syncing. It still shows up on the iPad (and in iTunes as dimmed, with a progress bar (still iOS 6)), and says "installing" in the App Store; and when pressed and held so that it wiggles, there is no "X" that allows it to be deleted. So am running out of ideas. Any ideas at all are appreciated and will be tried! Thanks.

  • Surface Pro 3 "System Hardware Update - 27/03/2015" never finishes installing; blocking 10041 - 10049

The "System Hardware Update - 27/03/2015" is stuck in an "Installing updates..." state
It stays in this state, even as I have rebooted many times. There's no install activity happening in the background. There's nothing I can see in the event log.
I rebuilt the entire machine back to 8.1 from a clean recovery USB stick, then updated up to Win 10.10041 again, and got the same issue.
It's blocking me from getting any other updates, like getting up to 10049

    Hi Tatham,
    Thank you for your feedback.
Regarding Surface Pro hardware update, it is recommended to seek help at the surface support forum:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum
Besides, I would recommend to install Windows 8.1 and then update the hardware from there, after that, enable Hyper-V and build a new Virtual Machine for Windows 10, or you may try to native VHD boot of Windows 10.

  • Adobe Updater is trying to install current version

I am using Acrobat XI Pro - version 11.0.06.  I am continually reminded to update Acrobat, but the Updater attempts to install the same version, which obviously fails.  The registry key shows the DisplayVersion to be 11.0.06.
Can someone please offer a suggestion to convince Updater that is already have version 06 so that I can attempt to install version 11.0.07?
Thank you very much for your help.

I would suggest just downloading the update and installing manually. The updates are at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows (similar for a MAC).

  • Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update unable to finish installing

    Hello:
I have been having trouble installing the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update. This update is meant to fix a bigger problem I have had recently. I'll briefly describe the bigger problem.
A few weeks ago, I downloaded the latest updates for iTunes, Security, and Quicktime. Now from what I've gathered, Quicktime 7.2 probably caused a few applications (Microsoft apps and Photoshop app) to have trouble opening because of "shared library errors". Even my Quicktime is having trouble working right now.
This Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update is suppose to help resolve the issue, but it fails to install. Any insights as to what might be the actual problem installing the combo update would be greatly appreciated.
    Mifty

I have an emac and recently upgraded to Mac OS X (10.4.10)
I am using a wireless modem to connect to the internet. I am unable to download new versions of applications I already use.
    Error message:
A networking error has occurred: Error NSURLErrorDomain - 1005 (-1005). Make sure you can connect to the internet, then try again.
I have been advised to try several things, none of which worked.
Can anyone help. This seems to be a problem with the OS X, as I was able to download before I upgraded to the latest version.
    Thanks,

  • RMAN Backup Seems To Hang - Never Finishes

We have a short RMAN block tracking backup script running on four different 11gR1 RAC DBs (11.1.0.7.5). This script only backs up changed records and it has worked fine on all of the 4 RHEL 4-based DBs for many months w/o issue and w/o any changes to the script. Recently, it has encountered an issue on just one of te single RAC DBs. On this DB it runs for days and I eventually have to kill it. The only error I can see in the alert logs is:
ORA-00235: control file read without a lock inconsisten due to concurrent update
I don't know if this error is related to our issue as I see it before the backup starts and quite a bit in subsequent alert (and trace files) logs during the backup. I also realize that this error can often be ignored as being attributed to concurrent activities and that retries can sometimes solve the issue. The first message I see i the log after the backup starts is "Incremental restore complete if datafile 45 to datafile copy /flash/RAC1/datafile/01_mf_mpd_02_6bw0cdy6_.dbf." We obviously use Oracle Managed Files (OMF) and the backup directs the files to be copied over to a flahs area to then be scanned for changes.
I typically run the script from a cron, but this error happens even when I run it from the command line. I normally run it from the 2nd node of the 4 node cluster. Of additional note is a large amount of 2-way streams replication that we run on this DB to/from another DB. The latter DB has no issues with the same backup. I mention this because of the large amount of LogMiner activity that is sometimes goin on along with regular users.
The backup seems to be doing all of the correct things as it always has as you see messages in the backup log indicating channels allocated, stasrting incremantal backups, recovering data files, reading backup pieces form flash, skipping archive logs previously backed up (ALOT of previously backed up archived logs). Again, NO ERRORS appear in the log. The last few lines of the log (before I terminate the run) are:
    input archived log tread=1 sequence=110567 RECID=485848 STAMP=746169926
    input archived log tread=1 sequence=110568 RECID=485849 STAMP=746170951

channel ORA_DISK_4: starting piece 1 at 22-MAR-11 <---- this is always the last line of output in the log
I would include the entire log, but our company does not allow us to do this because of security issues. Otherwise, I would include it here. However, I have copied the script in question below to help in problem resolution. This hang condition occurs reagardless of whether thiere is high or low activity on the DB - which is a TEST DB. I just need to get this fixed.

    Thanks for any help.
    Matt

    No idea, but some clarifications:
Are they all running the exact same script, or copies? If the latter, look for spaces after the EOF. Check the date on the .env file, too, in case someone modded it and left some garbage that makes itself known later.
EOFrun a copy past typo, or is that an indicator of something screwy in your script?
I believe there is some log buffering going on, so there may be more stuff not written out to the log. So I think it is getting past the starting piece one. If you break up the subsequent commands into their own run statements, maybe it will become clear what is actually stopping.
I believe there is large pool usage, what are your large pool settings.
    NFS anywhere in your configuration?
    What is $2?
Maybe the controlfile is the problem, maybe the crosschecks are hanging because something else is locking them out... are you sure you don't have other versions of this script still running? What processes are accessing the controlfile? Is anything trying to copy it?

  • Adobe flash hangs on Safari install

    Hi all,
Should I just be happy that Safari refuses to talk Flash, thus saving me from power sucking purgatory unless I want to launch Chrome?  Probably.
    Here's my setup:
Mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15" now running a clean install of Yosemite, but I restored files from Time Machine, so some legacy preferences may at issue.  Curiously, Chrome is happy running flash content, like on Pandora.com but Safari and Firefox claim it isn't installed.  When I try to install flash, after double-clicking the installer launches, asks for my password, shows a pop-up with progress, and then the pop-up remains but goes black, doing nothing forevermore.
In Console, this error message pops up each time:
2/10/15 11:57:38.018 AM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.apple.xpc.launchd.domain.pid.Install Adobe Flash Player.674) Could not resolve origin of domain. XPC services in this domain's bundle will not be bootstrapped: error = 109: Invalid property list, taint = (null)
Any thoughts?  Talk about a fairly benign problem.

Flash is not an application and it doesn't install in the Applications folder. It's a web plugin and a preference pane. The sidebar icon represents the disk image on which Flash is distributed. After installing it, eject the disk image and delete the disk image file (DMG) from your Downloads folder.

  • Software Update's Never Finish Downloading Part 2

Ok so I thought I was done dealing with this but guess not... I am having a hard time updating to Mac 10.5.4. It was an automatic update but every time it gets started I hit a snag about 10 min into it and it "freezes". The computer volume buttons still function so it is not "shut down" but the percentage bar stops making progress....
I took the prior advice and started doing the downloads one at a time but hit a snag with this big one... I have tried manually downloading and that didn't work either, any help???
    Isn't technology great??

Why don't you try downloading the update from another computer, transferring it to a thumbdrive and then transfer it into another computer.
