When I turn on my iMac it comes up with the login icons which I then choose and log into. The password works and I then get the apple icon and the spinning wheel. After about a minute the Apple icon turns into a prohibited icon. However, if I log in under the guest icon, I can access the wifi and get to Safari. I really don't know what to do next. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Are you running any A-V? If it's an iMac 21.5, I don't think you're running Leopard, 10.5. Probably at least Snow Leopard, 10.6. This is the Leopard forum.
This article says meant for 10.3.9 and eariler, but contains some still useful suggestions.

Try a Safe Boot. Shift at the startup chime and expect a much longer time to boot. This will bring you to a login screen with "Safe Boot" in red.
    Look at this as well.

  • How do I remove the Adobe updater icon from the menu bar?

How can I remove the Adobe Updater icon from the menu bar? It's pixelated and looks broken. Any help is appreciated.
I found this thread, but it doesn't work. When I click on the Updater icon, then click "Open updater," it opens the Creative Cloud instead. I haven't found a way to remove the updater icon from within Creative cloud.
Remove Adobe Updater from OS X menu bar?
    ^^ Doesn't work
Anyone know how to remove it?
    Thanks!

Found it, thanks to later posts in that thread I mentioned in the OP. Here is what they suggest (you have to use Photoshop):
    1. In Photoshop, go to Help >Updates:
    2. Click "Preferences" at the bottom right.
    3. Uncheck the box labeled "Notify me of new updates on the menu bar." Then click "Ok."
    Hope that helps anyone!

My ipod touch shut down for no reason. now when i try to turn it on again, it goes to the apple icon to the spinning wheel, then it repeats.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 13 in macbook pro (early to mid 2011) : after the update, computer freezes with spinning wheel every 30 seconds first with safari and now with all the applications. I don't have any programs installed and still had good enough memory on the RAM.

After the update of my 13 in mac book pro (early to mid 2011) , it freezes every 30 seconds with the spinning wheel and now it just freezes. Ive never had this problem until I recently updated. Also, I just checked now for available update ( which there was one), the update would process till the last step and it shows it cannot be expanded? Now my computer wont even restart (just have a grey screen with a cursor). Can someone please tell me what the heck is going on with my computer?
I also checked the memory and it showed available memory was over 1.5 GB. I dont have any programms installed and do not have backup yet ( dont really need it anyways)
Problems: first with spinning wheel every 30 seconds and now whole computer just freezes when I restart, it only shows grey screen after the starting sound or it takes about 8 to 10 minutes to restart.
This ALL happened right after the update with google chrome crashing. I know my apple care plan expired so I cant even go to genius bar. Do you guys know how much it would cost to get it fixed ? Or any recommendations I can do to fix this?

  • After Software Update Only Logo and Spinning Wheel Appear

After downloading latest versions of Safari, OSX, and iTunes suggested via software update, a message stating that not all software (iTunes) instatlled. Restart resulted in the Apple logo and spinning wheel and never continued to completion. A hardware test using supplied disc resulted in a pass for tests run. I cannot boot the software restore disc when restarting and holding down C key. Anyone experience something similar? Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
Try a Safe mode boot (hold Shift while booting).
Safe mode boots take longer, so be patient.
If successful, at the login window, click Restart, and allow a normal boot.

  • Got several adobe updater icons in my menu bar how do I remove them?

Installing adobe photoshop elements 10 I ended up with several updater icons in my menu bar. Tried command dragging them out, but that didn't work. Any ideas?

As far as I know the only way to get rid of them is to 1) install the updates and then 2) turn off automatic updates for PS Elements (in PSE Preferences).

    Also
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/332003/
This article describes how to prevent Windows Messenger from running. By default, Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Edition install Windows Messenger. The user interface does not let you remove or uninstall Windows Messenger.
When you install Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1), Windows adds a new feature that is named "Set Program Access and Defaults" to the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel. You can use this feature to remove Windows Messenger from the Start menu, from the desktop, or from other locations. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 332003  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/332003/ ) How to change your default programs and to enable or remove access to Microsoft Windows and non-Microsoft programs
Windows Messenger 4.0 or later versions on a Windows XP Professional-based computer
Use the Group Policy (gpedit.msc) snap-in to turn on the Do not allow Windows Messenger to be run option.
    Notes
    ·         To use the Group Policy snap-in, you must be logged on to the computer using an account that has administrator permissions.
    ·         This method prevents programs that use the Messenger APIs from using Windows Messenger. Microsoft Outlook 2002, Microsoft Outlook Express 6, and the Remote Assistance feature in Windows XP are examples of programs that use these APIs and that depend on Windows Messenger.
To turn on the Do not allow Windows Messenger to be run option, follow these steps:
    1.     Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
    2.     In Group Policy, expand Local Computer Policy, expand Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand Windows Components, and then expand Windows Messenger.
    3.     Double-click Do not allow Windows Messenger to be run, and then click Enabled.
    4.     Click OK.
    5.     On the File menu, click Exit to quit the Group Policy snap-in.
If you use Outlook Express - To prevent Windows Messenger from starting automatically, follow these steps:
    Outlook Express
    1.     On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the General tab.
    2.     Click to clear the Automatically log on to Windows Messenger check box, and then click OK

  • How do I close/disable Adobe Update Manager from MenuBar?

    Hello,

umm it doesnt work...  I mean getting rid of this

  • Adobe Updater icon no longer in menu bar after latest Cloud updates ...

... or maybe it's actually the Adobe Applications Manager, I don't know.
How do I get it back?

Thanks for your response. It could be that there isn't a problem.
But since I bought the Creative Cloud, there has always been a small red icon in the menu bar (along with the Apple icons for WiFi, BlueTooth, etc.) for the Adobe Application Manager. I could launch the Application Manager right from there if I wanted to check for updates, but the chief value was that the Application Manager was always on the lookout for any Cloud updates. When there was an update, there would be a number displayed right on the icon that essentially said that there was one (or two or three) updates available. When you see the number, you run the updater.
But recently, that icon in the menu bar has vanished and I don't know if Adobe Application Manager is still actively looking for updates.
I can still launch the Adobe Application Manager from the Apps folder or from the dock and the AAM shows a list of Cloud apps and indicates whether they are installed or not. But no mention about updates.
Yes, I can check for updates from any Cloud App and that launches AAM which reports that there are no new updates. And I can click on Preferences and check the box that says "Notify me of new updates in the menu bar." So maybe the icon will appear in the menu bar if there is an update?
A minor issue, I know, but that little icon used to be in the menu bar all the time ... and seemed to be looking for updates.
    Thanks,
    Brad

  • Adobe Updater Stuck on Extend Script Toolkit

Hello! My Adobe Application Manager was updating my CS5 suite when it stopped at 71.4% at the Extend Script Toolkit 3.5.1 Update. I tried to quit the Manager, but nothing happened. Any ideas, or should I force quit the Manger and try the Update again? Would all the new download be lost? This download section is actually the second. Earlier, the Manager went all the way to 100% on something, then it went back to 0% and started on a new thing. Sorry about the un-specificness, but I let my Mac run the updates as I made breakfast. The second download was suppose to be a lot faster, according to the time-remaining estimates. Does anyone have a similar experience?

Update! I've force quit the Adobe Updater. The little Adobe Update icon in my top toolbar is gone. The Adobe applications seem to be opening OK, so I'm crossing my fingers the next time Adobe Updater asks for updates. Anyway, thanks for viewing!

  • Too many updater icons

I've got five (count 'em, five) Adobe Updater icons in my menu bar (Mac OS X 10.6.) They all tell me I need to download Extensions Manager 6.0.4; however, if I try to do so, the download fails.
I've tried manually downloading and installing the most current version of Extensions Manager per discussion in another thread, but I've still got this flock of updater icons. I know I can disable the menu-bar icon entirely, but I don't want to do that; I just want to reset them so that I'll still get an alert the next time there's a legitimate update to download. Any ideas? Thanks.

As noted in my original post, I already have tried the remedy suggested in message 4818581 (downloading and installing the Extension Manager update manually.)
This did not resolve the issue of Adobe Updater icons proliferating in my menu bar. An additional icon appears every time Adobe Updater checks for updates, meaning I am now up to six icons suggesting that I update the Extensions Manager, which I already have updated manually.
I am aware that it's possible to turn off the display of icons in the menu bar, but I want to maintain that functionality so I know when legitimate updates are available. What I want to do is get Adobe Updater back to behaving correctly, rather than spawning additional icons for the same (unneeded) update.
Message 4726755 pertains to Windows 7 systems; as noted in the original post, I am running Mac OS X 10.6.

  • Grey CC Icon with Spinning wheel won't open

The CC icon on my taskbar won't open and if I hover my mouse over it there is just the rainbow wheel of death.  I can't use the updater or uninstaller because it says that CC is still running and asks me to close it (which I can't do either).  What do I do?
    Mac OSX Yosemite

    Hi Sethicus,
Same issue has been discussed in the below mentioned links:
Adobe Creative Cloud / Desktop App / Home Screen: Constant Spinning Wheel
App doesn’t open | Progress wheel spins continually
Let me know if it helps.
P.S - If this or any other response helps answer your question, please take a moment to mark the response as helpful or correct to make it easier for future users to find the solution to the same issue

  • I cannot access any apps on creative cloud.  I only get a spinning wheel icon.

The creative cloud merely has an indefinitely spinning icon whenever I try to access apps.  In short, I can't access apps.  I can't even access trial apps.  No idea what the problem is.  I've paid for this service, I may have to terminate it.

This was happening to me too. ANAND8502's link helped, here's what I did:
    Uninstalled the Creative Cloud app
Solution 2: Remove any Creative Suite 5 or Elements 11 related Update Inventory files
If the App panel still doesn't load, then remove the Creative Suite 5 and Photoshop/Premiere Elements related Update inventory files. WARNING: This step disables the ability for the affected software titles to receive any additional automatic updates. You can manually download and apply updates from Product Updates.
The updater inventory files are stored in the following locations:
    Mac OS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdaterInventory/1.0/
    Windows: \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\AAMUpdaterInventory\1.0\
And this one for good measure (ignoring quitting and relaunching as I uninstalled it)
Solution 6: Delete the contents of the OOBE folder and relaunch the Creative Cloud app
Quit the Creative Cloud app from the gear icon in the upper-right corner.
Browse to the following location based on your operating system
    Mac OS: /Users/<user folder>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE
Note: The \Users\<user folder>\Library\ is hidden by default after 10.7. See the following document for instructions on accessing it if necessary: Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion.
    Windows: C:\Users\<user folder>\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE
Note: The AppData is hidden with Windows default settings. See the following document for instructions to show it if needed: Show hidden files, folders, filename extensions | Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7.
Delete the entire contents of the OOBE folder.Note: This folder is the one containing the opm.db file from solution 2.
Restart the computer and launch the Creative Cloud app again.Note: The app can take slightly longer than usual to load with this solution, as content in the OOBE folder is rebuilt after launch.
Reinstalled. Got the spinning wheel again and thought it didn't work, but after about 30 seconds it finally worked this time.
