Adobe Updates and Video Drivers

Could not find a better place to post this one, but perhaps there is. But for now....
I have a Lenovo 410 Laptop with discreet Nvdia video card, Windows 7 32 bit. I use it both docked with a large monitor and undocked. It has profiles for each situation. It allows for color management by the video card or by other applications - selectable by check box.
I use the Nvidia controls and have nicely calibrated monitor and internal LCD.
After each and every Adobe Update - whether to PS or Bridge or InDesign, the checkbox has moved to "Let another application control my video settings". Happens, I believe, every time.
This should not be. At least it doesn't change settings, but it takes over control of my color management. If there is any way to prevent this. I would like to know.
~Bob

I have a Vista x64 system with a nVidia Quadro FX 3500 card in it.
In my case I had the nVidia Control Panel set to "Use nVidia Settings" to calibrate the video card output so that it would generate a decent display using the sRGB profile on its inexpensive monitor.  The machine is not used for color critical work, and that was a decent way to get the display close enough for its uses.
Just now, when I went to check it, I found that the setting had returned to "Other applications control color settings".
This is a server, and doesn't get much interactive use.  I don't think it has had any Adobe updates (other than Windows Updates) as far as I know since well before the nVidia control panel setting was the other way.  That machine does have Photoshop CS4 installed on it (no CS5), but CS4 has been updated to the latest for months.
Certainly something changed it, but this tends to point toward other things causing it.

Here is a link to an Adobe TechNote about the same issue with an earlier (much earlier!) version of Premiere Elements and Windows XP.

I'll leave it to Steve and Bill as to whether the fix offered in the link for Premiere Elements 2 would still be applicable to your version of Premiere Elements.

I have Adobe Reader X loaded on my computer. Adobe sends me automatic updates periodically. I have been told that some hackers have been sending what appears to be an Adobe update and when I select run it will load malicious software or spyware onto my computer. How would I recognize this attempt and how can I prevent it? I also have Norton protection loaded on my computer (via Comcast). I am not sure if Norton can protect me if I select run. Do you have any suggestions?

    Hi peterc,
By default, Reader updates occur automatically via the Reader app itself, and this is the most secure way to receive updates. While you can choose to update manually (by choosing Help > Check for Updates), you may not always get critical updates as they're released. See Automatic updates | Acrobat, Reader. If you receive an email about needing to update Reader, you should ignore it, as that is where the malicious updates can come from. Just make sure you're letting the updates happen from within Reader, either automatically or manually.
    Best,

  • Updating AVI Video Drivers results in blue screen of death

Creating a CD in Premiere 9 resulted in the program closing.  I was told to update video and sound drivers.  First I used the option in Device Manager, then I used DriverUpdate.  The computer now frequently gets the "blue screen of death," with reference to an infinite loop because of ATI2DVAG.  I want to download the drivers myself after deleting the current drivers.  The first field on the ATI site gives me the choice of desktop graphics, notebook graphics, TV tuner graphics, workstation graphics, integrated motherboard, embedded and MAC.  I chose DESKTOP.  I have Windows XP Professional and I also have Linux installed; my video card is ATI Radeon HD 4250.
In the second field I chose Radeon HD Series.  In the third field I chose Radeon HD 4xxx Series PCle.  In the fifth field I chose XP 32.
This brings me to a page which has three tabs: Catalyst Software Suite (with one download), Individual Downloads (five downloads) and Optional Downloads (five downloads).  I think the first is the one I want.  It comes with the warning that Framework 1.1 Service Pack from Microsoft, dated August 30, 2004, must be installed.  I have no reason to believe that my service packs are not up-to-date; I have service pack 3.
The Catalyst Software Suite, with the one download, is 11.6.  I think I now have 11.2 (I found this in the Catalyst Control Center from the icon on the bottom of my screen).  In my Device Manager it says: 8.821.0.0 released January 26, 2011, PCl busl, device5, function 0, internal version 8.821.
It looks as if the program I bought, DriverUpdate, did not install the latest release.  I think my best bet is to delete the current driver and install the Catalyst
Software Suite 11.6.  Is this the right thing to do?

I agree with John that those driver updater programs can cause more problems than they fix. I gave up on them a long time ago.
But if one of them were giving me the blue screen of death, I'd be very concerned! Blue screens, even on Windows computers, have rarely been seen since the days of Windows ME.
Rather, you'd be best to just manually go to Windows Update and ensure you have even the non-critical updates. That fixes about 99% of your computer. Though occasionally I go to the ATI or nVidia sites manually and get the latest drivers for my video card. And of course I go to Apple.com to ensure I have the latest version of Quicktime, which plays an important role in all PC-based computer editing.
Beyond that, I'd run iobit's excellent, free PC tune-up tool Advanced System Care. It's one of the few tune-up programs I do trust -- and it tunes up everything with just a click or two.
    http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html
And if you're STILL having problems, please give us more information about your system and your project.
What operating system are you running? How fast is your processor and how much free, defragmented space is on your C drive?
What kind of camcorder is your video coming from? When you started your Premiere Elements project, which settings did you select?

  • Should I let Windows 8.1 Update Nvidia Video Drivers?

Loading Windows 8.1 to a secondary hard drive in my Early-2009 Mac Pro via Boot Camp was a frustrating exercise. But after four tries it took when I found out that there were problems with the Nvidia graphics board driver. During the final successful install I turned off the automatic Windows update and let Boot Camp do the whole thing and the installation took...the machine boots nicely into Windows and has been stable so far.
In the Windows desktop system tray there appeared a notification that a Nvidia driver update was available. Based on my experience with the installation I'm reluctant to let it do that update.
I also get a notification that there is a Boot Camp driver update but when I click on it the browser simply goes to the Boot Camp page but there's no indication of WHAT driver is supposed to be updated.
So my question is - once I have a nice stable installation should I let Windows update this driver in particular and for that matter the normal system type updates (I'm guessing yes to the latter). Does the Boot Camp software on the Windows side take care of this kind of thing? I can't find anything that documents this issue; there's lots of discussions of how to install but not much about maintenance afterwards.
    Thanks in advance!

Well I guess I answered my own question…it’s NOT safe to let Windows update its system software.  My Windows 8.1 installation was (operative word "was") stable until I let windows updates do their thing and after installing 41 “Important” updates and a restart I received the infamous "Error_System_Thread_Execution_Not_Handled" message.  After two restarts the system went into automatic repair mode and thankfully uninstalled the 41 updates and the system returned to normal operation.
The original issue was a video driver conflict of some sort which was resolved by turning off Windows automatic updates during installation and letting Boot Camp install the proper drivers.
Can anyone explain in simple terms the relationship between Boot Camp driver updates and Windows system updates?  I’m unable to update my Windows software because when I do so it breaks the system.  There must be a way to select “safe” updates otherwise Windows will always remain at the state it’s in w/o updates.
Someone must have cracked this code; I just can’t find any evidence of it.

  • Can someone tell me how to update the video drivers on my laptop?

one of the games I play online claims my video drivers are out of date, how do I update them without a huge fight?

Someone could give you better and more exact information but you didn't include the model number of your computer. But I can give you a pretty generic answer. At the top of this webpage you should see Product Support. Click on Laptops and then select which model of Toshiba computer you own, ie Satellite, Tecra, etc. Finally type in the model number of your computer. Select the exact model number and click the red Go button to the right. Click the Downloads tab and look thru the different drivers for this computer. Make sure that the new video driver is newer and has a higher version number than your current video driver. If it does, click the Download button, click the Run button and let it do the installation. Afterwards, reboot the computer so that the latest drivers are fully installed. Try again with that game.

  • Audio and video drivers defect?

    Hello there,
since yesterday i have a big problem with my iMac. It can't play any Audio and Video anymore. Video editing like Final Cut Pro 7, Premiere Pro and After Effects are crashing, when youre trying to start them. Same thing with iTunes and Diablo 3. Photoshop seems to work fine. Browsing in the internet is fine but also no video and audio here. And my system seems to be way slower than before.
What did happen? Well i was working in after effects and hearing some music via iTunes and had some preview running in the finder (cover flow i think is the name of feature), Then the sound stopped but i didnt bother to much about it. But then cover flow also stopped working. So i did a restart and after that the problems were there.
My Suggestion: After Effects is missing output-modules, in the audio menu in the system preferences there is no output modul avaiable either (no, even no digital) although the boot sound works perfectly. So i guess the drivers for audio and video aren't working anymore. But i have no idea how to fix this.
What i've tried: i've reseted  the nvram two times, i install mac os X snow leopard again (without deleting the previour installation) and run all updates. I also reseted the System Control Manager (unplug the imac for fifteen seconds) and run the Apple Hardware Test. The latter said there is an error 4MDT/4/40000003:HDD -1299. No fking clue what this means. Google didn't help.
Can someone help me pls or do you know if the people at the genius bar can handle this kind of problem? I have an appointment at the genius bar on saturday, but i have no idea how trained these people are at fixing mac os issues.
ah and before i forget: i didnt configure the time machine :/ so there is no easy moving back to a time the imac was working.

Yeah i know its the hard disk drive. I just cant find anything what this code means besides theres something wrong with hdd
And yes i already backed it up, but anyway thanks for your advice.

  • Sound and video drivers for G60-453NR laptop?

Will HP be providing updated Windows 8 drivers for G60 laptops?
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi David,
If Windows 8 drivers are released for your notebook, they will be posted here.
HP is not going to support hardware for Windows 8 on any system purchased before Oct 1st 2011.  Most Windows 7 drivers will work in Windows 8.
Check out this page to see if your computer has been tested by HP with Windows 8.
You can run the Upgrade assistant software, which will scan your PC and generate a report on what is currently installed on your PC is compatible with Windows 8.  This upgrade guide for Windows 8 provides a lot of information that is needed for anyone considering upgrading.
    I hope this helps,

  • CS4, Adobe Updater, and Snow Leopard

Hello, all.  I have installed my copy of CS4 onto a fresh install of Snow Leopard.  The adobe updater does not recognize any new updates.  I did, however, go to the updates section and download the newest version of camera raw and CS4 11.0.1.
Has anyone else been able to update CS4?  Any suggestions?  If I recall, I believe there were Bridge updates, etc, since the original release of CS4.  I have the original DMG of CS4 for Photoshop, without the patches.
    Thanks,

I am also in the camp of not receiving new updates from Adobe Updater in Snow Leopard.  I did a fresh install as was mentioned earlier as well (erase the disk, install Snow Leopard, followed by Software Update to get 10.6.1 and then installed CS4).  Adobe Updater didn't find any updates... Then I installed most (if not all by hand) and then Camera Raw 5.5 came out and I still didn't see any updates.  I did end up installing that one by hand as well, but before I did that I lookad at the aum.log file and saw these messages around the Camera Raw queries...

    2009-09-21T04:08:51: GetAppIDUpdates: MFS_New - parsing new .upd file = 1
But then again I see those same messages in my 10.5.7 system that works fine... So it doesn't look like it logs anything to explain why its not finding any updates.
I may try uninstalling and reinstalling just to see if that helps... Would be nice to get a resolution to this.

If you're running 10.5.8 then you have the latest drivers for Leopard. Apple provides drivers for the GPU, there are no standalone downloads. If Software Update says you have no updates, you're set.
    and BootCamp?
www.nvidia.com? But bear in mind that these drivers likely aren't tested under Bootcamp, so there is the possibility that you may have issues.

  • I downloaded Newest mozilla yesterday, adobe updated, and now when I click a YouTube video I get a box saying "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (rtsp) isn't associated with any program." and can't watch any videos?

I downloaded the latest version of Mozilla Firefox yesterday, full and complete, and I am actually using it right now. The only problem I have had is upon clicking any YouTube video, the box pops up saying "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (rtsp) isn't associated with any program." But there are no directions or suggestions on how to address this problem. Ive looked at YouTube add-ons and none of them really seem related. Upon the finish of the new Mozilla, I also was prompted to upgrade the flash player, and did so without any trouble. I am only guessing this is an extension/plug-in problem. I really am quite confused!
