Adobe Updates Crashing my computer

I have a brand new computer with Windows 7, It has 'frozen" at least a half a dozen times!!! The screen freezes, I get a spinning ring and can't do nothing, when I try ctrl+F4 or F2 the desktop and open windows turn milky white.
This problem ALWAYS happens when I am online and I get a notice to update Adobe.
Is there anyway in hell, that I can put these update reminders in some sort of cue? Why do they freeze and crash my computer (the only thing I can do is unplug the computer, which has got to stop. Do I need to drop or quite Adobe?
Please help!!!!

You might want to give some specifics. Other then my computer crashes with Adobe....Not to be a S.A but there are a lot of different Adobe programs and computers. You mention FF so Windows would be my guess, or you could be running Linux. Do you see the variables here? What kind of computer? Not a Desktop or Laptop or Dell or HP. Specs like GPU, CPU, Memory. Program running, what you were doing, etc. The more detailed you are the more a user can hop in and try and help you.

  • Adobe Updater Crashes

Adobe Updater (5) is constantly crashing. This happens immediately when a CS3 program is launched. In the report log, "Exception Type" is "EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT)".
    Any thoughts?

Wow, I just had Adobe updater crash yet again, so I googled the error message and was brought here, where I found my old rant. Sorry about the bombast and the wrong forum. Nonetheless, there are two vectors to evaluate software by: functional requirements and non-functional requirements (NFRs). The NFRs include things like reliability and good change management (i.e. changes to the software don't introduce reduced levels of service). People are initially attracted to a technology because of the functional requirements; the service provided makes their life easier. Then they become dependent on it and start to expect a certain level of quality. Companies that provide that level of quality eventually take away market share. Why did Toyota become such a giant-killer in the automotive world. I've been involved in several corporate IT upgrades where a top-10 vendor's software was displaced by an up-and-comer because of the poor change management demonstrated by the big boy. I'm actually doing Adobe a favor by pointing out that they need to drive resolution on this problem. Now I'll go find the right forum.

  • Adobe Updater Crashing enough already

I have seen this in the past in CS2 and now see it in CS3 where if I launch Updater 5 for CS3 from Adobe Utilities or if I run Check for Updates from any of the applications the Updater crashes.
This is really annoying because it pops up every time I launch the apps too.
The current problem is happening on a fresh archive install of Leopard, and a fresh Adobe CS3 design standard install.
Console shows this every time the updater runs:
11/14/07 12:05:23 PM [0x0-0x2f02f]."com.Adobe.ESD.AdobeUpdaterApplication"[538] terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
11/14/07 12:05:23 PM [0x0-0x2f02f]."com.Adobe.ESD.AdobeUpdaterApplication"[538] what(): Unable to determine registration filepath!
    11/14/07 12:05:29 PM com.apple.launchd[120] ([0x0-0x2f02f]."com.Adobe.ESD.AdobeUpdaterApplication"[538]) Exited abnormally: Abort trap
I have tried from different user accounts, from Root, and I tried in the past on another machine with the same issue in CS2. I also tried in Safe Boot.
Any help or insight would be appreciated and no I shouldn't have to do a complete erase and reinstall of everything.

I am getting crashes as well, but the symptoms may be a bit different. Updater runs for a while before crashing. Lots of disk activity. It appears to be running away doing memory allocations from looking at the crash trace.
My system is 10.5.1 and Photoshop CS3.

  • Photoshop CS3 10.0 - Adobe Updater Crashes

I have Photoshop CS3 V10.0.  Every time I open my Adobe CS3 a "Problem Report for Adobe Updater" window opens, stating "Adobe Updater quit unexpectedly". It asks me to "Click reopen to open the application again" but doing this has no effect. I'm concerned my PS CS3 isn't being kept up to date, plus it's a real waste of my time each session.  Can anyone help please?

    THANK YOU Mylenium
    That was most helpful
I'm not sure what did it but I followed these directions I found thanks to your suggestion:
I'm not sure what version they are referring to....
    "1.photoshop preference-
    2.general,history states to 1
    3.click on 'next'
4.at the bottom of menu it says..."recent file list contains"
    5.change to "0"
    6. click ok "
I also turned off version cue - My version cue has never worked properly - or at least I get an error message on start-up of the pc
I enabled my 2nd hdd as scratch space and bumped up my ram resources
I deleted the psp file after the crashes started
If I ever figure out what made the difference I'll post it....
    Cheers

  • Adobe update crashes

Adobe updater has been working perfectly until now when it tries to install Media Encoder 4.2.0 and setup crashes. I tried downloading the update from the Adobe site, and the installer still crashes. There is no information given at the time of the crash, it is a standard Windows crash "Adobe Setup has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience." with the error reporting dialog. It cannot be installed. Please help.

I'm having the same problem updating Premier Pro. I hope someone will provide an answer. All other CS4 Production Premium updates work OK, as do all of my CS4 Web Premium updates. I'm running Win7 Professional on an Intel i7 system with 8 GB RAM and a GeForce GT240 video card, so it's not a problem with system resources.

  • Update crashed my computer

I just did a software update on my computer and now everything's crashing. Safari, dashboard, iPhoto, Entourage, and other software items are all quitting unexpectedly.
I've lost 2000 photos from the last 4 years and 800 contacts, I guess I should have backed them up.
    Computer info:
    PowerBook G4 15", PowerPC G4 (1.1) CPU
    Serial Number - W844801UQW2
    Mac OS X 10.4.7 (8J135)
80GB HD with 4GB Available (Not sure where the memory has gone)
While I love my Mac, I've had endless problems with it. Dare I say it, I'm ready to go back to my Windows machine…
Anyway, along with this problem every time I try and download a .dmg file it “fails to mount.” I get a broken file sitting on my desktop, when I try and open it I get a system error that reads, “Device not configured”
None of my USB ports have ever worked unless the system is started with the device connected…
And to top it all off, my latch has never worked!
I'm just concerned with the software problem at this point, because this is my work computer and we have no budget for a computer (non-profits suck). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Sorry about the sob story.

    Hi Chris,
first off you say you've got 4gb left on an 80gb drive? If so this could be a root of your problem (or one of them at least) as Macs shouldn't have less than 10% free HD space - they just don't like it. Have you been getting messages saying HD nearly full etc?
You need to free-up some space so the system can work & to save what's left of your files, you'll need an external HD to copy files to. Then once returned to a safe working level run Repair Permission on your HD using Disk Utility, after its finished reboot & hold Apple+S keys to boot in single user mode (black screen & white text) & type:
    fsck -fy
press return key (this runs a check & repair on your HD)
if when finished it says modified or repaired run fsck again until says HD appears OK.
    Then type:
    reboot
    Press return key to exit.
You could also invest in Techtool Pro or Disk Warrior (Data recovery edition) to try to recover your lost files as well as maintenance if Disk Utility & fsck can't fix your drive. Also download Onyx, free. But get TT P or DW anyway for future use in keeping your system good.
Once you have all your files safe bung in your Install CD put a fresh system on it, then your Apps. Then backup using Carbon Copy Cloner (free download) to create a clone to another drive of your new clean fresh system so you can restore from if your Mac goes wrong again. Then transfer your recovered & backed-up files while preserving at least that magic 10% free HD space.
    Good luck.
    Rory

  • Adobe Updater Crashes On Launch

After launching Adobe Reader (9.3.0), Adobe Updater launches but then immediately crashes.
I am on a Mac running Snow Leopard (10.6.3).
I can seem to find any solutions here. Can anyone help out?
    Thanks in advance!

You can always download the standalone installer for Reader 9.3. That won't solve the updater crashing
problem but it is a workaround, and once it's up to date, you won't have to worry about the updater crashing if you go to the Preferences and choose:
Do not download or install updates automatically

  • Adobe Update crashed my mail program and made Bridge defective

Went to use my PhotoshopCS6/Bridge and it somehow updated and is unstable and not working AND also ruined my connecction to Windows Live Mail. I have been working for a WEEK trying to get my mail to work (not knowing this update was the problem) and have been told it was a problem with WLM Movie Maker. This was very odd. In Bridge I then noticed things had changed in the interface and it was crashing whenever I closed it. Removing and installing repeatedly the WLM and deleting the Movie Maker has not fixed the WLM yet. BUT I noticed NOW when I try to access PS6 from Bridge it now tries to access WL MovieMaker which is NOT installed. The update has made a mess of my life and consumed countless hours. I have deleted Flash and Acrobat and have NO intrest in any CC jstuff. I DO not want to have to crash out CS6 as I may never be able to replace all my carefully (since installings CS6) placed settings. PLEASE dont tell me your update has caused me all this grief and harrassment over some CC stuff while I am TRYING to process funeral pics and I must reinstall. I am extremely upset here!
I would like some one from Adobe to contact me. I have sent all my log files to Microsoft today and would like to appraise them of the situation also.

Thanks for the nice info J.J. Can you steer me to the right site. I had some problems finding it. Somehow I ended up here trying for Customer support.
Adobe Bridge and Photoshop were just fine till the update messed everything up, but I went into preferences to have all my files open PS from Bridge so I can at least use it until it crashes when I shut it off. Sigh! I have lost two immediate family members in the last few months and I apologize to all for being a bit techy and posting in the wrong place. Not good at this kind of stuff.

  • Adobe Update crashes Macbook Pro

I've tried updating Adobe Media Encoder to version 5.5.1 a few times, but every time when it gets to a certain percentage installed, it causes my screen to go black and my computer to lock up.  Any idea what could be causing this?

I just restarted then tried to open InDesign again and it let me download a java update that seems to have fixed it.

  • Maverick OSX update crashed my computer and OS. My harddrive and OSX and WIN have been lost and are irreparable. What are the next steps?

Mavericks has crashed my MacBook Pro.
I was offered the upgrade as a free and reccomended Apple Software Update that arrived on my computer.
I installed Maverick received an error during installation saying the HD was bad. I ran utility disk and internet recovery and attempted to boot in safe mode to no avail. My computer no longer had an OS. (I ran both OSX and WIN on my new HD). I took it to the Apple store and it was determined it was a software failure (Maverick) and not my harddrive. The tech at Apple told me I could take it to a data recovery place on MY dime to attempt to recover anything from the HD. I ran several expensive architectural programs which are now lost. Any advice as which aveneue to take next is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Note, backing up is not a choice in computing.  You either value your data or you don't.  And when you install new software the drive is that much more at risk, if it is marginal.  This is true of any operating system update because of the number of changes that happen at once.

  • 10.4.11 update crashed my computer

When software update tried to install 10.4.11, it complained that it could not do it. I downloaded the combo package from apple and that stopped at %67 with the same complaint. Now the computer won't start and is perpetually stuck in the startup screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel. I tried booting from the installation dvd but only the HD shows up as an option. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I wonder if the Intel version of 10.4.11 has been used in error.
If the tray won't open I would suggest using Target Disk Mode with the iMac G5 to either run the hardware test, disk repair or ultimately perhaps archive and install.

  • Software Update crashed my computer IMac

I am heartbroken! Need some input from you all. Yesterday I was on my computer and the prompt came on alerting me to new software updates. Proceeded to click ok, the update began and half way thru, computer rebooted and then bam. Blue screen of death and then my computer wouldn't clear out of that blue screen. I brought it in to the Apple store and was told today, that they tried to back up my drive with Disk Utility and some other back door process and were not able to make it work. Kept failing. They said they would replace my hard drive but can't recover my data and suggested if I want the info to contact a recovery company. Fool that I am, I know.....we didn't back up and now I am in a bind. Not sure what to do. My Iphoto info, my Itunes info, it all resides on that hard drive. And I find it hard to believe that there is nothing they can do, that my hard drive failed after software update takes place? Has anyone had this happen and give me some quality options to help figure out how to recover my data. I found a few local spots in CA that will come to my home and help, but I have no idea what to look for and the amount I will have to pay. I don't have a ton of things on that hard drive, so why would it cost much?

Hi, for the first time since I have been using Mac's the latest Update created issues on my computer. I ended up d/loading from the main Apple sdite.
Backing Up is a must, Recovery of info on your HD is possible but not guaranteed or 100%. I would visit your local Apple Approved Service Agent & speak with them.
I assume you have AppleCare & have called AppleHelp? In any event an Apple Service Agent or the local Genius Bar is I feel your best option. I would in your case ONLY deal with an Apple Approved tech.

    Hello, wesleytj.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I see you have tried some troubleshooting steps already with the issue persisting.  Try the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.  If the issue persists, try all remaining steps in the article.

    wth?

    Ron,
You may be experiencing a Kernel Panic as seen and described in Apple doc. HT1392. If not, disregard.
Bad or incompatible RAM is, more often then not, the cause of most Kernel Panics.
