Adobe Version Cue CS2?

Hi everyone,
Sorry for posting this question in this forum, but I thought i'd get a quicker response than on the Adobe forum as there doesn't seem to be much life about it.
What exactly does Adobe Version Cue do? i've no idea, and it's pinned to my top menu bar and does not function. It's stuck on update 2.0 and I cannot update it to 2.1 because it keeps saying update failed.
Just looking to know if I can delete it or will it come in useful? I run the rest of the programmes that came along with it in Adobe Creative Suite C2 like Photoshop, InDesign etc... but not this Cue.
Thanks in advance!

Adobe Version Cue is revision management software intended to arbitrate conflicting changes when multiple people are editing the same documents at the same time. If you're familiar with Unix or software development, Version Cue is like CVS, Subversion (SVN), Mercurial, or GIT. In general, if you don't already know what Version Cue is, you don't need it.
The Mac implementation of Version Cue has never worked right, so the best advice I found is to avoid installing it in the first place. When I recently had to re-install my Adobe CS1 on Leopard, I just did a Custom Install, and unchecked the Version Cue option. Everything has worked perfectly since then.
I found these directions on removing Adobe Version Cue from CS2 in the middle of this page:
http://www.macfixitforums.com/printthread.php?Cat=&Board=Forum36&main=775306&typ e=thread
"I used System Preferences to turn off Version Cue, then followed MacFixit's fix....
delete the following files (or place them in a separate folder for safe-keeping):
• Adobe Version Cue folder from the Applications folder
• VersionCueCS2.prefPane folder from the Library/PreferencePanes folder.
• com.adobe.versioncueCS2.plist file from the Library/Preferences folder.
• AdobeVersionCueCS2 folder from the Library/StartupItems folder.
then restarted my mac."
Hope this helps.

  • Exorcising old, unwanted Version Cue CS2 out of OSX System Preferences

I just switched over to an Intel Mac and have deleted my old Adobe CS2.
However I can't get rid of the "Version Cue CS2" from my System Preferences.
When I click on the Preference Pane, the following error shows up:
"You cannot open Adobe Version Cue CS2 preferences pane on this computer. Contact the developer of this software for a newer version."
I have a lot of lingering things from my PPC G5 iMac that I transferred over onto my new Core2Duo iMac. Any help on banishing CS2 Sys Pref? Thanks!

Locate the preference pane in either the /Library/Preference Panes/ or /Home/Library/Preference Panes/ folder and drag it to the Trash. Empty the Trash.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Most applications create preference files which are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can located them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.
There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
    AppZapper
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at www.versiontracker.com or www.mackupdate.com.

  • Disable adobe version cue?

    hi
the problem is, the adobe version cue (cs2) has a "preferences error" when you try to access it in the preference pane. i assume this is because it's on rosetta and some things don't work properly until the universal version.
but is there another way to get rid of the version cue icon & menu from the taskbar?
it causes my shapeshifter theme to look weird because that part is being left out.
    thanks for suggestions in advance

Since it's an Adobe product, you may want to post your question on the Adobe forums: http://www.adobe.com/go/gntraysupp_forumshome

  • Uninstall version cue cs2

I've installed CS3 but the version cue cs2 icon still appears on the menu bar. I can't access CS2 from system preferences, "You cannot open Adobe Version Cue CS2 preferences pane on this computer. Contact the developer of this software for a newer version." the menu bar,"You cannot open Adobe Version Cue CS2 preferences pane on this computer. Contact the developer of this software for a newer version." or from the applications folder clicking on the uninstall version cue shows and alias which can't find the original version and inserting the original installation disk doesn't make the uninstaller magically reappear.
The uninstall pdf (uninstall CS2- all together)says "Double-click Activity Monitor.app in Applications/Utilities, select AHCRemind, and click Quit Process." Fine, until I get to AHCRemind which isn't in the activity monitor.

I no longer have Creative Suite 2 on any computer. But, as I recall, when Version Cue CS2 is installed, you should see an "Adobe Version Cue CS2" folder in the Applications folder. Within that folder, there should be an Uninstaller application. Run it.
If that doesn't work, I have a list of files you can manually delete.

  • Program uninstalled incorrectly (Adobe Version Cue CS 2)

    Hey all!
I'm a fairly new mac user and when i recently wanted to uninstal Adobe Version Cue CS 2 i accidentally deleted the program files without running the uninstaller. The result is that OS X (I'm using 10.4.5) now thinks that Version Cue is still installed and displays it under system preferences while none (or at least most) of the files are actually not on the computer. I obviously tried reinstalling Version Cue but the installation CD wouldn't let me as it also detected that Version Cue was already installed. Does anyone know how i can "tell" OS X that Version Cue is not there anymore so I can reinstall it?
I was thinking of installing Version Cue on one of my friends mac and then copy the program files (especially the uninstaller) to mine. I'm guessing this could solve my problem but it would obviously be a lot easier if I could fix the problem by myself.
    Thanks for any help.

    IBOOK 14"   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi, PsychoNiko.
See the Adobe Support document "Manually remove Adobe Creative Suite (2.0 on Mac OS X)." Follow the steps therein pertinent to Version Cue. You may want to compare those steps with the Adobe Support document "Message "Version Cue is already installed on this machine..." appears when you reinstall Adobe Creative Suite (Mac OS)." The latter seems to apply to CS1 and comparing the two documents indicates some of the Version Cue file names have changed from CS1 to CS2.
When you have questions about third-party programs, it is often best to start your search with the Support Web site of the firm that publishes the program. I found the above in minutes by searching the Adobe support site.
To avoid uninstall problems like this in the future, see my "Uninstalling applications" FAQ for important advice on uninstalling software.
    Good luck!

  • SMC Firmware update NOT compatible with Adobe Version Cue

After 2 days of SMC Firmware install & reboot problems (and many other folks in this forum), I went to my Apple Store Genius who resolved the issue by turning off Adobe Version Cue at startup.
It is now a know problem at Apple.

Now it seems logical that if OSX can boot in Safe Mode it's probably a StartUp program conflict ... and NON-universal programs are likely culprits according to the Apple Genius.

  • Help with CS3 Adobe Version Cue Server problem.

Adobe Version Cue Server (CS3) doesn't display in the system prefs, niether will install a working copy off of Install disc after removed. There seems to be no way to fix this, In bridge it can't connect. All I get is a bunch of errors.

CS3 is known for the worst version ever of Bridge and also not supported any longer, you are using Bridge version 2 and current CC version is Bridge 6.
Also Version Cue has been discontinued per CS5
There is a blog post about a fix for a certain problem but not sure this is what you need (it is for a Mac), you can give it a try:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/03/a_tip_on_photoshop_mac_stability.html
Also keep in mind Bridge is not developed nor official supported for use over a network.
And in general, when something happens with Bridge first thing to try is resetting the preferences holding down option key (Mac) or ctrl (Win) while restarting Bridge.
But also I'm not sure you are in the right forum. Do a forum search about Version Cue using the Adobe Forums as source and see what result you get.

  • Version Cue CS2 Wont Update

My Version wont update for some reason and i dont know why, all the other programs updated but not version cue, any reasons?

    Hi, AfterAfx.
I see you have a MacBook Pro. According to this post on the Adobe Version Cue Forum, Version Cue does not run on Intel-based Macs as it is not Rosetta-compatible.
Adobe documents their current position on Intel-based Macs in the PDF document "FAQ: Adobe Support for Intel®-based Mac computers". On page three of that document they state that "Version Cue Workspace (Server), does not run under Rosetta..."

  • Adobe Version Cue CS4 -- startup entry in Windows 7

    Greetings,
I want to know if something will go wrong with Version Cue if I will disable it in Windows startup list.
Is it really necessary to keep it enabled if I use it very rarely? Will the program function correctly if I'll start using it without this entry?
    Thanks.

I was of the understanding that CS4 was available in 32-bit and 64-bit varieties?  I was aware, of course, that only some of the software was truly 64-bit, but is it the case that by owning CS4 in general, I actually do have the 64-bit version?  That's a relief... if I'm understanding correctly.
I'll only be running 4GB of RAM, unfortunately, but I don't do a lot of intensive things with CS4 anyway--I mostly picked up Web Premium to learn some of the Adobe tools for my future work life, and to play around with some basic Web design.  I'm sure 4GB's will suffice.  If not, I can always upgrade later!  I definitely plan to do a fresh install when I my copy of 7 arrives... I'm still rather superstitious of OS "upgrades" after the days of Windows 95 and 98 upgrading. heh
I actually had a bit of a computer problem that prevented me from deactivating my previous install... hopefully it won't cause me too much difficulty to get it back up and running!
    Thanks for the information, Bob!

  • Fatal Error: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Version Cue CS4/Client/4.0.0/VersionCue.framew

    Hello All,
Running on a MacMini running 10.7. Running Photoshop CS4 11.0.2.
Running a brand new MacMini that came with 10.7 installed. I restored from a backup that was running on 10.6.
Photoshop will run if I only click the app. However, if I try to open a file using Photoshop or attempt to open a file from within Photoshop, I get this error:
I have run the "remove launch" script that was provided by Adobe to address the PPC issue. Now that I am in 10.7, when I go to system prefs and attempt to open Version Que, it quickly flashes the version que window then closes it, leaving me unable to edit any of the version que settings.
In photoshop settings, I have verified that version que is unchecked.
I have also turned off all options in the bridge application:
Any suggestions appreciated. I am completely at a halt at this point and a sad camper.
    Thanks,
    R

    So here is the update.
Deleting the old install and re-installing worked like a charm to get me at least able to open documents. Thanks for all the help!
However, as a warning to others, if you do import from an older Mac OS and find yourself in the same boat as I did, once you re-install, you will find that when you select "Update" under help in Photoshop or any of the other apps, it will not find an update, even if there is one.
In my case, I have photoshop 11.0 and having it go off looking for an update does not find one. I suppose that there are two ways to solve this. 1) Delete whatever left over file is being used by the updater to determine what needs downloading or 2) Manually download the latest update and run it.
I am off to search for the manual download. Does anyone know where I might find the file that needs deleting in this case?
    Thanks,
    R

  • Free version of CS2 - unable to install - please insert CD 2

    I am running Win 7
I was pointed at a link for a free version of CS2.
    http://www.free-stuff.co.uk/Free_Adobe_CS2_Creative_Suite_Download_Links.php
I assume it is a valid free offer. There is no indication at the Adobe site link.
There is a PDF that describes how to install and, although, the file names mentioned are not exactly the same as those that are downloaded they appear to correspond and everything downloaded correctly (there is a slight problem with the disk 3 link, with a superfluous backslash at the end but that is easy to get over).
I did as specified, i.e. run the disk 2,3 and extras files to expand the content then I ran the disk 1 file and everything appears to be ok until it gets to the stage of requiring disk 2 and doesn't find it.
Unfortunately, there is no opportunity to point it at the (correct location on the) hard drive (whether it is looking there or at the CD drive I don't know). So, essentially, I am stuck at a message saying "Please insert CD 2 to continue installation". Any ideas?

Installing CS2 on a Windows 8 64bit systems worked for me using the instructions below, followed to a "T".
"Be aware, this won't be for everyone. These are old programs, intended for use on Windows 2000/ XP and Mac OS X v.10.2.8–v.10.3.8 (PowerPC® G4 or G5 processor). We've managed to install CS2 on a 64-bit Windows 7 system, but this is unsupported and there's no telling what issues might crop up.
If you'd like just to try, though, here's what to do. Follow the download link to open a page at the Adobe site, and at a minimum download CreativeSuiteCS2Disc1.exe, CreativeSuiteCS2Disc2.exe and CreativeSuiteCS2Disc3.exe from the links at the top of the page (that's a bulky 1.07GB in total, so choose a system with a fast internet connection).
Run CreativeSuiteCS2Disc3.exe, make a note of the default extraction folder (it was C:\Creative Suite CS2 for us), and click Next > Finish.
Run CreativeSuiteCS2Disc2.exe, change the default extraction folder name to whatever it was for the previous file, and click Next > Finish.
Run CreativeSuiteCS2Disc1.exe. The extraction folder should be the same as it was for the Disc3 file, but change it if not, and click Next. (The aim of all this being that all the CS2 content should end up in the same folder.)
The installer will appear. Click Next and accept the licence agreement.
The "Personalization" screen then asks for your registration details. Enter your name, (optionally) company, and the serial number 1130-0412-8377-1896-9751-5759 (you can paste this from the clipboard).
Next, the installer asks where to install Creative Suite 2. By default this was C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe on our Windows 7 x64 system, but it immediately complained that "The path your selected for installation contains unsupported characters". This is misleading; the real problem is just that the installer is using a long file name. Manually enter C:\Progra~1\Adobe as the folder name on 32-bit Windows, C:\Progra~2\Adobe on a 64-bit system, press Tab > Next and all should be well.
    Read more: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/downloads/3328873/adobe-creative-suite-2/#ixzz2TI45RP5Z
You then get to choose to install some, or all of the suite's components. Your options are Adobe Illustrator CS2 (600MB), Adobe InDesign CS2 (400MB), Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Adobe ImageReady CS2 (450MB), and Adobe Version Cue CS2 (300MB).
We opted for the "Entire Suite" option, and clicked Next.
A Summary screen appears listing all the choices you've made so far. If there's a mistake, click "Back" and change it, otherwise click Install.
If a message appears telling you to "Insert CD 2 to continue installation", open Explorer, and switch to the default extraction folder (we'll assume it's C:\Creative Suite CS2). Manually copy the C:\Creative Suite CS2\Adobe InDesign CS2 and C:\Creative Suite CS2\Adobe Version Cue CS2 folders and their contents to C:\Creative Suite CS2\Adobe Creative Suite 2.0. Switch back to the installer, click OK and it should now continue.
Once installation is complete (which should only take 3 or 4 minutes, not the "up to 20" suggested by the setup program) a Registration dialog will appear. There's no need to bother registering, really - these are free tools, you're not going to get any support running them on modern PCs anyway - so the best option is probably to choose the "Do not register" option, and click Next > Done.
And with any luck, you should now have installed CS2. The issues may not end there, but you should at least now be able to launch and try out its various applications.
