Adobe Video Library no longer accessible

I'm using CS3 Design Premium, and after I recently upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.5 on my Mac Pro, I was no longer able to access the Adobe Video Library/Lynda.com training videos. I haven't tried it from other CS3 apps, but from InDesign when I click on Help, go to a topic, and click on a video link, it comes up and the progress bar appears to "progress," but nothing happens when I go to actually play it. I can't even click on the "background" window showing all the applications and lists of videos for each one. That becomes all grayed out.
Does anyone have an idea of what might be happening and how to fix the situation?? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Because Adobe uses Flash technology for all its videos, I'd reinstall the Flash Player. Here's a link to the latest version:

    Hello, I have searched all over and cannot seem to find a resolution to my problem so if this has been answered, I apologize. Problem is I can no longer stream any sort of video stored in my iTunes on my MacBook Pro to my Apple TV. It used to work before without any issue.  Current iTunes version is 11.3.1 (2) and Apple TV software is 6.2. All my music plays just fine.  Whenever I bring up an artist or song on the TV and select it, it plays no problem. With regards to my music videos and home videos, I can see them on the TV (the thumbnail), however when I select it, all I get is the little circle in the middle of the TV that just spins and spins like its loading but nothing ever does.  Also, all my home videos, TV shows and music videos in iTunes on my MacBook open and play just fine on The MacBook.  So music streams to the Apple TV just fine, cannot get a single video to play from my laptop to my TV thru the Apple TV box.   • Slo mo videos are no longer accessible

    I've been taking some slo mo videos lately and was planning to back them up to my raid storage as soon as iPhone's memory went critical.
    So yesterday I noticed I had less than a gig available. So I though I'd back them up tonight. So when I got home tonight I went in to do so and I first checked my available space. Weirdly it was 3,4 gigs... ˆˆ
    Ok I though I probably was wrong yesterday but I should just back up anyway.
    I connected the phone with the photos app and went straight to the slo - mo videos. I was amazed to see that only half or even less than that were available to import! That's when I started to worry. I quickly imported those and went looking for the rest. On the iPhone they still appear there. I had checked to backup everything on the iCloud, keeping the full original file there when space on the iPhone is required. I suppose that's what happened so I tried to find those files on the photos app. Weird... my iCloud photos are not available on the photos app. I mean I don't see an iCloud section there. The actual photos are there I suppose but they seem to be imported from iPhoto. Besides I also import photos using the manual import from the photos app so photos are there but can't tell which ones are on the iCloud.
    If I go to iCloud.com I see all the iCloud photos and all the videos but the slo-mo videos are not the original ones. Trying to download them you get compressed versions in mp4 of the original mov file that I captured. That means that the slo mo is gone. Much of the information is gone, and also the beginning and end parts that were displayed in normal motion are no longer moveable. They are fixed!
    Going to the iPhone the slo mo videos are available but when you try to play them back a continuous loading keeps telling you to wait. They refuse to play back.
    So you can't download them there either.
    Are my videos lost?

  • IPhoto Library no longer accessible from Photoshop

    Till now I used a Power Book G4, I life 05 and Photoshop CS2. No problem opening iPhoto Library pictures in Photoshop for working on them.
    I built different iPhoto Libraries for getting them lighter...
    Now I got an iMac Intel Core 2 Duo, 3.06 Ghz with iLife 09 but still with CS2.
    The thing is: If I open one of the libraries with iPhoto8, the library is rebuilt to the new standarts of the new version of iPhoto but after that, this iPhoto Library is completly inaccessible to Photoshop (the Library icon is in grey).So impossible to browse and select a picture !!
    I must precise I desinstaled CS2 and reinstaled it from the CD but the problem is persistant.
    Regarding the other libraries that I didn't open at the time (and consequently are not "rebuit"), I have no problem for opening the pictures with CS2.
    Who can tell me where is the problem? Is it a new rule (no access to other applications?).
    The fact is this is very boring and a waste of time opening first iPhoto and then dragging the pictures in a "transit" folder before at last opening them with CS2......

    The following are tips on how to use Photoshop from within iPhoto as the editor or choice:
    Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
    1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
    2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
    3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
    This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
    NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
    If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • Upgraded iPhoto library no longer accessible

    Hi All, I performed an upgrade through Apple to my '08 version of iphoto in the late winter/early spring months (Feb/March time period). Ever since then I have not been able to access my pictures via the icon on my desktop. I get an error message that reads "You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto." It then goes on to tell me that I have upgraded to a newer version (when the heck did I do that??) and that I need to use the newer version in order to open my photo library.
    Life was a little busy for me and I am just now getting around to dealing with this issue. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!

    This is a symptom of a damaged database.
    Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
    To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
    Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
    In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
    Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
    Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
    Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
    When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
    In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

    You will need that library copied from the old computer. If not, then you can take a look at this in getting 3rd party software to recover your library from the iPod. Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

  • Adobe Font Library Question

    I work for a large company and we just purchased the entire library of fonts from Adobe. We use both macs and pcs in our office. The fonts that were sent were "Open Type". I have a few questions:
    1. We had been using "Type 1". Has "Open Type" replaced all of type 1 fonts?
    2. There were several fonts that we used as type 1 that are not showing up in our Adobe Font library of type (Example: Helvetica Narrow). Does Adobe no longer support that font? Are there others available to purchase, or does the Adobe Font Folio CD cover all type that is available?

    Great question - I'm trying to get the answer from Adobe right now. I will post back if I get a meaningful reply... from what I can discern not all type 1 fonts have been 1) converted to open type or 2) included in the Font Folio open type version (which is what I presume your company purchased)
    PS Just got reply while composing.... try emailing [address deleted by forum staff - see http://www.adobeforums.com/Typography/661 for list] for a list of the typefaces in the FontFolio package (reference doc-> FFOTEFontList.pdf) Seems to me if the font you now use isn't in the package you might be stuck with your old version.

    As far as Type 1 fonts the customer *should keep*, pi (symbol) fonts in Type 1 format may need to be retained, as some symbols cannot be accessed by some applications for current OpenType fonts.     [JR] Although Image Club was at one time an Adobe-held company, it's very difficult to know what fonts they had rights to sell at this point. Adobe may not have retained (and likely did not retain) the rights to every font in the Image Club library, once we divested the company. The best way to know is to compare their Image Club fonts against the complete FFOTE font list, attached.

  • Video will no longer play, cannot add video content either.

    Since this afternoon, iTunes video will no longer play. Not movies, not TV shows. I checked and music and podcasts still play. I thought it might be a conflict between purchased video vs video I added from my DVDs, but no such luck. Purchased content will not play. Nor can I add any new video, whereas I added a new TV show episode this morning.
    If I go into the iTunes LIbrary file and select a video and choose "Play with Quicktime" the video plays just fine. But if I select "Play with iTunes" nothing happens. At all. Not even an error code. It's like I didn't select anything. If I try to add content by the keystroke "command O" and choose the file … again, nothing. No error. Just no response at all. When I open that file on my computer, select "Play with Quicktime", then choose "Share with iTunes" inside Quicktime I do finally get an error. "This file cannot be shared (error 206)". I looked up this error code and found this: "The filename or extension is too long." This does not make sense. The file names are fine and the extensions are exactly what I always use to add content to iTunes.
    So it's like the entire video portion of iTunes has ceased to function. Any clues?

    There are a g-zillion posts sharing your problem... but still no answer from Apple. The odd thing is that it is not affecting all of us.
    I share your problem and it's doing my head in... if somebody mentions the 5 bloody R's again...!!!

  • DFS Shares Prepended by DFS SID and No Longer Accessible

    Hello,
    Environment: We use two dfs servers which replicate all namespaces and dfs folders between each other. 
    There are two namespaces: Data and Users.  First server (DC12) has referrals enabled the second server (DC07) has referrals disabled. 
    This is globally configured across all namespaces and dfs folders. 
    Both servers are Server 2008 R2 Standard x64 OS.  Other roles on these servers include AD DS, DNS, and DHCP.
    Issue: Within the Data namespace windows explorer location on DC12 (D:\Data\) the folder structure was mysteriously changed for all (9) dfs folders. 
    Dfs folders had “DFS.<DFS SID>” prepended to their folder names and are now no longer accessible. 
    For example: folder previously named “Accounts Receivable” were renamed to “DFS.8c654b7d-0246-4389-ab00-2b1b7027626fAccounts Receivable” within explorer, but are named "Accounts Receivable" within DFS Management. 
    Additionally, there was another, empty dfs folder created in D:\Data\ called “Accounts Receivable”, but when we try to access it from either D:\Data\ or through \\namespace\data we get an error “Location is not available: The network location cannot
    be reached.” 
    Background: Our server switch died and replication between DC12 and DC07 was interrupted for about 90 minutes. 
    We replaced the switch and the environment came back online. 
    When testing to confirm network, resource, and LOB functionality, we discovered this issue and have been thus far unsuccessful in resolving.

    Restarted DC12 and DC07
    This issue is ONLY isolated to DC12 and ONLY the Data namespace.  DC07 and Users namespace works just fine.
    We ended up having to disable DC12 as a referral target and in replication so that clients were pointing to DC07. 
    I’m hoping that I won’t have to rebuild the Data namespace because it’s massive. 
    Hoping for some guidance on troubleshooting.  Thanks for your time.

    As currently the DC07 is still working, a new initial replication should help in this situation. Please try the steps below:
    1. Stop the DFSR service on the server that is logging the 4004 event. 
    2. Navigate to the root of the DFSR folder. 
    3. Depending on OS, you may need to take ownership of the "System Volume Information" folder and grant yourself permissions (FULL) on the folder. 
    4. Navigate to :\System Volume Information\DFSR\ 
    5. Rename Database_GUID folder to Olddatabase_GUID 
    NOTE: For Windows Server 2008 R2 you will need to do this from an elevated command prompt, otherwise any changes made to items in this folder will get reversed by system. You can use command line: ren Database_GUID Olddatabase_GUID 
    6. Start the DFSR service. You should see an Event ID 2102 in the DFSR event log indicating the database is being recreated, and then an Event ID 2106 indicated it has been successfully recreated. 
    You can then monitor progress by checking the state of the replicated folder using WMIC command and backlog using dfsrdiag command: 
    Wmic /namespace:\\root\microsoftdfs path dfsrreplicatedfolderinfo get replicationgroupname,replicatedfoldername,state 
    The "State" values can be: 
    0 = Uninitialized 
    1 = Initialized 
    2 = Initial Sync 
    3 = Auto Recovery 
    4 = Normal 
    5 = In Error 
    And:
    dfsrdiag backlog /SendingMember: /ReceivingMember: /RGName: /RFName:

    Why is my library no longer accessable on my iphone g3?  It used to be there.  Now I've got a partially list of audiobooks, (why aren't all of them there?) and NONE of the music or videos that are in my itunes folder on my computer.  What happened and how do I reload?  Regular syncing does nothing, nor can I drag files to the phone from the computer.  Thank you!

    Called in and discovered I needed to adjust sync settings after loading Mavericks last year.  (Rarely use my phone for music, hence not noticing til now.)  Did that on my laptop in the iTunes library using the iphone button that shows when it's connected to the phone.  Works perfectly now.  Thanks so much for your suggestion!

    Hi I don't know if this is the correct place for this post. So apologies me if this is the wrong place.
    Encoding with Adobe Media Encoder CS4 (4.2.0.006 and 4.0 too)
    Source: MOV (DVPAL) longer than 71 minutes
    Dest: F4V (H.264)
    Result: freezed frames and only plays audio at 01:11. Media Player goes crazy and starts showing some diferent parts freeze frames.
    In Quicktime crashes, in VLC the same of MediaPlayer. Sometimes the audio starts to downsampling and sounds like the pitch goes down.

    I recentlly encoded afew F4V using Adobe Media Encoder Cs4.  MOst of them are working properly but I don't know why, all of my video that are longer than 71 minutes seems to have trouble playing back.  They all Freeze when they reach 71 minutes or if I navigate pass this point.

    I'll try to explain all details:
    MacPro 1.1 (mid 2006) under Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Darwin 8.11.1 kernel)
    System files: journaled HFS+ and a unix based NAS (under samba connection)
    I have all material on the NAS and also I make the transcoding over it. Is a simple mov containing DV PAL WIDE interlaced 25fps with stereo audio. typical settings with nothing out of DV PAL standard.
    The version of MediaEncoder CS4: 4.2.0.006 (it happens with older versions too)
    The settings of MediaEncoder are:
    Audio: AAC stereo 44,1 kHz
    Video: F4V. MainConcept H.264, fps like source, profile high, level 4,1. CBR compression.
    The problem only appears with videos longer than 71 minuts. At 01:11 starts with crazy problems. It seems like the player have some read or problems.
    Tell me if you need some other kind of information.

    Premiere Pro audio slips out of sync, though it does not occur in Sony Vegas or in Lightworks with the same footage. Strangely, this is not only with the audio from within the video (.mts) file, but also from the audio I record separately and sync up in post. The frame rate and everything is, according to the sequence settings, accurately detected.
    Running my file through Handbrake is a workaround that I'm not willing to use. I've set my workflow (capture) so that this should be unnecessary, and indeed it is unnecessary . . . except for within Premiere Pro. Using Media Encoder to output an intermediate file doesn't work either; the audio still slips out of sync.
    Yes, I've already posted in the Premiere Pro forum, with no replies, but this is a bigger CC issue because the only way I'll give CC a try is with my 1 year $29.~ offer (as a CS user), which expires on the 30th. After that, I'll never give Adobe another look.

  • Rsync used STRICTLY for "photos and video" library back-up

    Hi,
    I'm hoping to get some guidance from some experienced users of rsync.
    I'm new to rsync, but have been learning about it.   I'm also new to Terminal.
    .....**For full system back-ups, I use CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner)....clean and simple.**
    However, for my large "photo & video library" (over 1 TB on an external drive), I found that CCC, while essentially doing the same as rsync, seems to take MUCH longer.  Rsync, on the other hand, is very fast.
    This leads me to FIVE questions.
    Q1:  Is this because CCC (which uses the rsync command, albeit modified), is doing a check-sum or sometime else behind the scenes?
    Also, looking through the various command lines that other contributors have suggested when using rsync, I am a little confused as to which optional commands are necessary for a PURELY "photo and video" library.
    For the optional commands, I think the ones that are a MUST for me are:
    -a  - "archive" rsync, includes ownership info and extended attributes extremely useful for moving large volumes of data and keeping AD/OD/POSIX permissions intact
    -v - "verbose" gives the user more information on the rsync display
    -x - prevents crossing filesystem boundaries
    -t   - preserves modified time
    --delete  
    This tells rsync to delete any files on the receiving side that aren't on the sending side. Files that are excluded from transfer are excluded from being deleted 
    ....Optionally, I could add the following to view the progress:
    --stats
    This tells rsync to print a verbose set of statistics on the file transfer, allowing you to tell how effective the rsync algorithm is for your data.
    Q2:  Is there anything else I should be adding?
    Q3:  Also, I saw that one contributor used "bash" at the start of the command line.  Is this necessary for my specific purpose?
    Q4:  Snow Leopard comes with rsync version 2.6.9 version 29.   I know that version 3.1.0 is already out, but this would require an installation step (possibly using come Terminal commands, or something like "MacPort"), then adding patches, and perhaps some steps that I haven't mentioned.  Is version 3.1.0 really necessary, and in what way?  Much faster?  Better Integrity of the back-up?  Other?  (o.k., that was more than one question) 
    Q5:  Is there a command to preserve the "CREATED" time of the photo?  Is this taken care of by the " -a " or the " -t "?

    Thanks for your quick reply.  
    A few other questions:
    1.     What is the -N command for?  I could not see it on the rsync.samba.org website.
    That's added with the crtimes patch:
         -N, --crtimes               preserve create times (newness)
    2.     My friend does not have CCC.  She's also using Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  What are the steps to properly install the newest version of rsync?
    Here's what I do:
    1. Download and unarchive rsync and its patches
        a. Move patches directory to rsync-3.1.0
        b. cd rsync-3.1.0
    2. Apply patches relevant to preserving Mac OS X metadata
           patch -p1 <patches/fileflags.diff
           patch -p1 <patches/crtimes.diff
    3. Apply patch relevant to preserving Mac OS X hfs+compression
          patch -p1 <patches/hfs-compression.diff
    4. Configure, make, install
            ./prepare-source
            ./configure
            make
            sudo make install
    5. Verify your installation
          rsync --version
    By default, rsync will be installed in /usr/local/bin.
    If that isn't in your path, you will need to call
    your new version of rsync by its absolute
    path in /usr/local/bin (you will most likely need to do this
    and --version will verify that you have the right version)

    No disadvantages that I'm aware of. 
    I'm not sure what defaults that Mike is using now, but most of the the flags that I use and posted are from the link above from Mike a few years ago.

    For several hundred productions, Pr CS6 worked perfectly for me.  Now, for some unknown reason, when I attempt to render video, the render progress window continually shows more and more frames to be processed.  Therefore when I get to 80% rendered it drops back to 70% and increases the total frames in the render.... over and over, so that I never get past 99% rendered... regardless of how long I let it process.
