Adobe vs Alternatives

Hi im a graphic design student with 6 months till i get my BFA. Ive used adobe for 10 years now and it really is all ive used. I dont own software for graphic design yet... As such I am a blank slate and willing to look into any good professional software. I have several months to figure it out still and want to wait till at least january to make a decision.
I am coming here and looking away from adobe because of the adobe cc matter and a few things they have done in the last 2 years. I dont need to get into it but im not doing cc because the cost is more over time, only buy 1 or all and lack of perpetual license. I see corel, xara, serif and others have very good business plans. I have lost faith and trust in adobe over lies, lies, lies, greed, lies and not caring what customers want and forcing cc on us.
If worst comes to worst i can get a student copy of cs 6 standard for 450$ which can be used commercially but I would prefer not as I want something I can upgrade or sell and have return on my investment. I see corel, xara and serif can import/export AI/PSD (i know not 100% perfect but great to have). The biggest thing is how well do they compare with adobe and i dont mean learning curve I mean effectiveness head to head with adobe. Unless adobe makes some big changes in the next few months to cost or options I will probably jump ship. Im leaning to corel though. Like the coreldraw x6 option to get perpetual license + premium (wish adobe would do this).
How well does x company actually compare to replace adobe:
Photoshop photo editing
Photoshop digital illustration
Illustrator
Indesign (desk top publishing)
Dreamweaver/Muse (none/light code friendly web design)
Please list anything that might help. I would prefer companies with several products but willing to entertain stand alone items. Many alternatives but Im looking for professional quality.

No reply. Really. No opinions?

  • Does adobe have alternatives for inserting photos into templates?

I have just downloaded this software in the hope that I can use some template files. They are eps and elements 13 doesn't support it.
In addition to this the only other thing that I wanted elements for was to remove backgrounds. I can't find a tutorial on that. The only one listed is for CC.
The only use I have for the software is to insert photos into a sublimation template. Do Adobe have an alternative that can do this?

Please review this and get back with issues that need additional clarification:
How to import my images into templates for sublimation blanks [was: inserts]? [was: HELP]
As for EPS files, Irfanview will open them, and then you can save them as JPEG files and open them in PSE.
Irfanview is a terrific program, free: www.irfanview.com

  • Adobe photoshop alternatives !

any body know any FREE software, lighter than and alternative to adobe photoshop ?

There is the freeware "The Gimp", but it was a little rough around the edges last time I looked at it.  You get what you pay for.
There is Corel Paint Shop Pro, which is less expensive than Photoshop.  I don't think I'd call it "light", though, and it is somewhat less functional than Photoshop.

  • Adobe reader alternatives

is there any alternative to Adobe Acrobat reader or is a must to use it ?

Acrobat Reader 6 was a slow, buggy monster, but the new version (7) is a lot faster. I know that for some special PDF features (forms, some security features) Preview doesn't cut it and you have to use Acrobat Reader. But with version 7 this isn't the problem it was with version 6.

  • Adobe InDesign Alternative Layouts - Problem

Hello, please, can you help me?
I want to use InDesign for a ebook. I use an alternative layout and wanted to save it as a PDF. But since the problems started. The PDF shows me now all alternative layouts (one after another), not only as the version for the tablet.
How can I make it so that I see on the tablet, use only the optimized version, but not even the PC version?
    Vielen Dank schon mal

  • Adobe Acrobat alternative?

I have to create PDFs for a company I'm contracting with. I have a macbook (2.0 ghz, 2 gig RAM), and run XP in parallels. My question is twofold: (1) is there any reason to buy the windows version of Acrobat? {i.e. - a PDF created in a shared folder should be readily accessible in both OS's, correct?}, and (2) is there an alternative that I should be made aware of in regards to Acrobat and creating PDFs in OSX {or XP for that matter}? Thanks!

You should be able to open pdf's in both operating systems.
If you can open the 'whatever type' document in a Mac program then...
    1# Select print
2# Select 'Save as PDF' from the 'PDF' menu at the bottom left of the print window.
3# You now have a .pdf version of the document which can be opened on Windows and Mac, windows users will of course need acrobat to open it as Mac users can open the document in Preview.
Hopefully this is helpful or solved your problem. Consider rewarding some points!

  • Do I need Adobe Reader & alternative browsers?

    Hello!
I'm relatively new to the world of Mac and am delighted so far.
However, I've tried downloading a bill from an energy supplier's site (Powergen) and it opens a window then says "we could not access your bill." I've tried on various occasions - same result. It may be the site is having problems; maybe it doesn't recognise Safari (although other areas of 'online account management' seem OK). Also, I tried downloading a document from the British Gas site and it told me I need Adobe Reader. On other sites (so far) PDF-style docs load into Safari's reader with no probs.
Basically, do I need Adobe Reader? Should I try Debug? (where Safari 'pretends' to be IE), and/or should I try different browsers? In my Windows days I used Firefox, although I gather Camino is more 'purpose built' for the Mac. Is this the case?
Many thanks for any advice offered.

Hello Ast. A. Moore, thanks for replying.
I can't provide a link to the Powergen bill page exactly as that is part of the 'security log-in' section.
The British Gas page, however, appears below. I'm sorry about the length of the url but I haven't yet figured out how to make a proper clickable link here.
If you paste the below into your browser and go to this page on their site, then click on the sentence 'British and Scottish Gas Prices' in blue down the page hopefully it will then try to get you their price list. It was at this point I got the 'Acrobat Reader required' message in a new window.
    link
I hope the above is useful; and thanks for your help.

First place to start with is the designer. Export from there and see if you get the same issue. If you do, create a forum post in the Report Design forum:
    SAP Crystal Reports
Also, make sure you have SP 6 for CR 10:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100005985482008E/cr10win_en_sp6.zip
    You will need SP 6 runtime also. Search here for the runtime;
    http://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm
Kbase [1218365 - Exported PDFs cannot be edited using the Adobe TouchUp Text Tool|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_erq/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes.do] may be related to the issue you are experiencing.
    If none of the above helps, you will have to try this with CR 2008 (12.x) as CR 10 has been out of support for a number of years and no fixes will be released. If you want, you can share a report with saved data with me and I can do the export using CR 2008. You will then have to try to duplicate the issue in Adobe. Alternatively, you can download CR 2008 eval copy from here;
    http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/freetrials/index.epx
and try the export your self.

  • For Adobe to Implement: Double-click to References

As a psychology student I undertake a lot of research relating to my degree.
Most of this research relies on research articles in approved psychology journals
The majority of these articles are published in .pdf format.
These articles average 15-30 pages long and included say 80% content and 20% references.
Unfortunately, one has to scroll through to the reference section whenever you want to access a resource for further reading and locate the appropriate reference amongst a long list (typically 30-90) items.
Have you ever considered implementing a simple feature whereby double-clicking on a given page (in reader) would cause it to flip around (complete with smooth 3D animation) and reveal all the references cited on that page.
This would require a developer level change to Acrobat and Web-based versions of Reader as well as the Desktop version of Adobe reader
Alternatively an extension or plugin could be designed to faciltate this idea, though for mainstream acceptance and widespread use it would probably be better for a program level change/ addition.
This would save considerable time and energy undertaking research, research which hundreds of millions of people have to do.
Obviously this feature would need to be implemented by content creators whilst creating their documents, unless a special algorithm was developed to do it automatically, but it would make referencing and resource location far more convenient.
Would you give this concept its due consideration?

I think your definition of "mainstream" to include the people who read academic journals with references is perhaps a bit one-sided.  It sounds a good idea for a plug-in, but how much do you think people would pay for it? How big is the market - what is the business case?
Arguably the biggest problem is that the people who make these articles aren't using hyperlinking, which has been in PDF the best part of 20 years already. [Added] So if they aren't doing that how much could we expect them to do something else?

  • Will Adobe offer a product to create forms after June 23

I've grown accustom to creating forms from existing documents as well as scratch.  Will Adobe X1 Pro be upgraded with a form converting feature?

    Hello Jeff,
JotForm has an import tool that can create an exact copy of your form and also it can transfer your existing data. We will handle everything for you.
Since PayPal features JotForm at the very top of their partners page we believe that JotForm has the best and most popular PayPal integration among form builders. So, you are also covered well on that front as well.

    > Will Adobe forms continue to function for my needs after June 23rd until July 10th?
Since you are in a unique position it'd be a shame if you had to pay for another form provider for such a short time. We'd happy to give you a free JotForm Premium subscription until the end of August. Once you switch your account, just email me aytekin at jotform.com and I will enable your free subscription. When you try JotForm I am certain that you will keep using it in the next years, so it'd be a win-win for everyone.

  • After July 2015 when FormsCentral is discontinued what software or alternative will there be?

After July 2015 when FormsCentral is discontinued what software or alternative will there be?

    Hello Nancy,
Since the announcement we have helped thousands of FormsCentral users migrate to JotForm successfully. They are extremely happy with the solution we provide. We  have a near perfect import tool that can import your web forms, form responses and PDF forms. It takes only seconds to request an import and we handle the rest for you.
    http://www.jotform.com/adobe-formscentral-alternative/
On the page above, in addition to the import tool, we have a comparision tour. You can compare all of the features of FormsCentral to JotForm.
If you have any questions please let me know.

  • I am really disappointed in the decision to close Adobef Formscentral

I have really enjoyed using Formscentral over the past few years and am very disappointed in the decision to close it down later this year as I have found it an extremely useful tool - functional and practical.
Please express my thanks to the team at Adobe who have poured their time and effort to get this project off the ground and who, I suspect, are probably also disappointed in this decision.
Oh well no doubt another steep learning curve lies ahead for me - having done some research it looks as if JotForm might possibly be a reasonable replacement but I really wish that I didn't have to find out!!
    PC

Cognito Forms will support importing forms from FormsCentral starting early next week:
    https://www.cognitoforms.com/l/adobe-formscentral-alternative
Cognito Forms supports two-column form layouts, and all of the field types and skip logic rules in FormsCentral, but is completely free unless you are collecting payment.  The process of building a form is similar to FormsCentral and will be an easy transition.

  • Trouble converting Word 2010 file into PDF

I have a file that was original composed in Word 2007.  It has a box with dialog on the front page (think a disclaimer on the cover of a brochure).  I use Acrobat 9 Pro.  Converting that file was perfect.  I recently upgraded to Word 2010 and I open, edit and save the document in compatibility mode.  When I print to Adobe (or alternatively convert the file), the disclaimer in the text box doesn't convert properly.  The rest of the document looks fine, but the text in the box is smushed to the far right of the box.  I have no idea what to do.  Another person I sent the file to has no issues converting from Word 2007.  Is there a known issue with Word 2010?  Is there a fix or plug-in?  Thanks all.

    Bon dias,
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
Adobe has not formally tested Acrobat 9 software with Microsoft Office 2010 applications and does not certify the behavior of using the two together.
The Acrobat ribbons, also known as Acrobat PDFMaker, do not work with Office 2010 applications the same way they do with Office 2007. Customers using Acrobat 9.0 through 9.2 will see the Acrobat ribbon in Office 2010 applications; however, attempting to use PDFMaker functionality from the Acrobat ribbon can result in unexpected behavior. Customers who update to Acrobat 9.3 or later will not see the Acrobat 9 ribbon in Office 2010 applications.
Adobe plans to add support for its Acrobat PDFMaker technology for Office 2010 in the next major version of Acrobat.*
We have not made any announcements about updating Acrobat 9 PDFMakers for Office 2010.
