Adobe vs Apple
There was an interesting thread started here that got blocked by the 'Kindergarten Cops':
http://forums.adobe.com/message/2773140#2773140
I, then, started a new thread... who knows how long it'll be up - deleted, locked or me banned :
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/629269?tstart=0
But, the point is, the age-old conundrum: Which came first? The chicken or the egg?
I would like to posit that if Adobe had not supported the Mac from Day-1, the Mac would have died in the Graphics Community.
Cheers guys...
I think the first post does not have the facts right. Apple is trying to dump Adobe (Flash) because the bugs and issues, and people in the field are saying that Apple is fed up with Adobe's inefficiency of its softwares. Microsoft also is trying to support Apple by developing the new HTML5. BUT is not that easy, people will need to buy new hardware to make the software work; meaning it will take many years to see HTML5 working free of Flash and people not longer caring about Flash.
You can search the web for HTML5 and you will find articles like this one: http://www.crn.com/software/224700374, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML5, or if you want the deep knowledge: http://www.w3.org/2010/04/w3ctrack-pr.html
Adobe needs to improve to justify the need for its software, this is something that Adobe does not want the investors to see. Maybe that is why the Thread was closed and deleted.
That is why some people are saying that Flash in the feature will be part of Illustrator.
BTW people thinks that is why the iPad does not have flash, and the minority of the people thinks that Apple does not want to install an open software in their product.

Lightroom 4 crashes when trying to open the slideshow module. I spent over three hours with both Adobe and Apple tech support and we know it is a permission issue but have not been able to get it solved. It started with the last upgrade to 10.8
Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
▹ Restart
from the menu bar. -
Has Adobe or Apple fixed the lack of PSB thumbnails?
One of these two companies needs to get on the ball and make working with PSB files easier. 75% of our work files are PSB format. Adobe blames Apple and Apple doesn't seem to know what an Adobe is. We need a fix now, I don't care who comes up with it and no I'm not shrinking my files in size or depth so I can save them PSD. This is like browsing your files in Windows 3.1 twenty years ago. I'll accept the lack of flying cars in the year 2013 but no icons for large image files, Really? Faaaaaaaaaaaak!
Not that it's directly pertinent to this discussion, but I brought up precisely this question with the authors of a major Windows thumbnail creation program, and their response was "we don't want to be reading thumbnail information from PSB files because they're too huge and it could swamp a computer system reading so much data. This same product makes thumbnails from PSD files and even composites layers if the file is not saved with max compatibility.
I just shook my head at that response.
The PSB format would be a great single, universal "does everything, saves everything" format if only the programmers of the world would just stop to think a little. Sigh. I guess thinking has gone out of fashion.

I have been suggested to down grade to 10.6.6 due to issues with Adobe and Apple working things out. I have downloaded 10.6.6 but wont let me install. Any ideas?
Yes, simply reinstall from your Snow Leopard installer disc. The reinstall will not erase the hard drive. After reinstalling you can upgrade to 10.6.6 with your updater.

I want adobe flash. Ipad2 will not accept it. Adobe blames apple and apple blames adobe. I don't care. Just fix it.
Hello Pepperbrewer,
While there's no way to get flash on your iPad and probably never will be, you can use several things to help you access some flash products.
1) Skyfire for the iPad is a web browser that will convert flash videos and allow you to play them on the iPad. Simply purchase it from the App Store and then you can use it instead of Safari when you want to view flash videos.
2) SplashTop for iPad will allow you to remote control your desktop or laptop computer and use it from the iPad. You basically install the SplashTop software on your computer, set it up, then load SplashTop on your iPad and it will allow you to use the computer from your iPad -- that means you can do anything your computer can do.
I'm guessing in your situation Skyfire will be the best option for you.
Fortunately the popularity of the iPad/iPhone/iPod is forcing a lot of major sites to use non-flash options, so in the next few years we may not care that flash isn't available.
Adobe is also working on a lot of tools, and have some available now, that will help sites switch away from Flash to use HTML5 instead.
Lastly, you're welcome to follow the other suggestions and find a buyer for your iPad 2. If you do choose to do that, I would recommend you spin the product positively, as you will get much less money for it if you let your frustration bleed off on the new buyer. -
Several applications I try to use on my iPhone and iPad says, "Apple restricts use of technologies required by products like Adobe Flash Player. Until Apple eliminates their restrictions, Adobe cannot provide Flas Player for the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. It would be nice if Adobe and Apple would solve their issues so we can use Adobe Flash Player.
Yeah, it's probably not a driver thing. If you haven't rebooted already, definitely do that. It might just be that the graphics hardware is in a bad state.
The last thing we shipped was December 9th, so it's not like Flash Player changed. If these symptoms just started recently, it seems unlikely that a recent change to Flash is the root-cause. It's possible that Chrome might have pushed a change since then, but I talked to the Chrome guys yesterday and they didn't mention anything about a widespread video playback problem. They have really excellent telemetry, so they usually know pretty quickly when things break.
It might be that your Chrome install is somehow damaged, and you could do a complete uninstall/reinstall of Chrome to see if the issue goes away. You can also disable hardware acceleration in Chrome itself (it's under Preferences > Advanced > System > Use hardware acceleration if available) to see if that helps.
Is the issue isolated to a specific video or video site/sites? Does it happen in either Internet Explorer or Firefox (they're both significantly different copies of Flash Player, which would be an interesting data point)? -
Whats going on between Adobe and Apple.
Isn't this surprising to know that there are issues in using
Flash on iPhones. There is kind of strange things happening between
Adobe and Apple regarding Flash being supported on iPhone. Here is
a link to a very good discussion on this issue on engadget. There
is one thing I am sure about, I would definately want to use Flash
on my iPhone rather than using QuickTime, which in some manner
never so quick on my machine.

Unlock iPhone
SoftwareIndeed. Its upto apple to do the rest cause Adobe showed
interest themselves. Iphone doesn't belong to Adobe doh! So till
Apple takes a step, I doubt anything will happen.. -
I wanted to watch a BNN video on my iphone 4, but I was told I needed Adobe Flash Player. Adobe says Apple does not allow to install Flash Player on iPhones. Any suggestions?
See if BNN has an app in the app store or do without.
Adobe does not make a flash player for ipod/ipad/iphone and likely never will.
You can do a forum search and find coutless posts on this. -

Adobe say Photoshop does not use java so it should not be asking for a java runtime.
The question is how can I stop Photoshop asking to install java since Photoshop does not need or use Java to run?
Found various links that might be helpful:

Known Issues with Adobe Software on OS X Lion
Adobe's Installing Java SE 6However as I have Oracle Java SE 7 installed and SE 6 is deprecated and no longer supported for security reasons.
Apple is actually responsible for Java 6's security. They take Oracle's code and do whatever is needed to make it compatible with Apple's OS. Java 6 is still getting security updates from Apple. Versions 6 and 7 can also exist on the same drive. They won't interfere with each other.
Also I am assured in no uncertain terms by Chris Cox over at Adobe that Photoshop CS 5 does not use java at all and that the java error message and so called dependency is just an error on the part of Apple.
I did find a topic where Chris stated that for CS6, which I know is true. I've installed CS6 (and CC) on a newly formatted drive in Mountain Lion, and neither made any mention of requiring Java. Could have sworn CS5.5 and earlier did you Java for a few functions. Though I likely only assumed that since that version and earlier always causes a prompt to install Java if it isn't already on the drive.
So is there any way to run Photoshop with SE 7 only installed or even better with no java installed?
It doesn't really matter much if Java is installed. Java 6 should put an app in the Utilities folder by the name of Java Preferences. Open that, and you can completely disable it by undoing the check boxes.
Perhaps there is a way to make OS X stop thinking it needs java SE 6 to run Photoshop CS 5.
Apple would have to make a change to the OS itself. It's a not a user accessible setting. -

Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 for MAC crashing. Is it Adobe or Apple's Fault?
It could be me though but after reading forums not likely !
Hi Anyone from Mac
I posted an issue I am experiencing with Adobe Elements 8 on the Adobe Forums as I thought this may be their issue.
Basically. APSE8 keeps crashing when saving images and also on closing the app.
For more details. Here's my Adobe post:-
http://forums.adobe.com/message/2372867#2372867
But after further research I don't think it is fair to just blame them. It seems to be something 10.6 is doing. Adobe are saying they are working with Apple to resolve. Can someone advise the situation. I believe I am experiencing it!!!!
Thanks
NealI agree that something is up with your computer - PSE 8 seems no less stable than PSE 6 was. I've yet to crash it on my notebook or desktop after many hours of work. I'd suggest that before you think about reinstalling the OS that you do 2 things:
1) Adobe products seem to be very sensitive to fonts. Use Font Book to verify your fonts and make sure you haven't removed/turned off any system fonts that are required
2) Try using the program in another account (make a new account and use it for a while) If crashes stop you'll know your problem is your account.
BTW, I don't know if PSE 8 suffers from the same problem that PSE 6 did - PSE 6 did not like running from a standard account. I had to change some folder and file permissions to get PSE 6 to work completely. -
Please assist. My new iMac with latest operating platform by APPLE will not play Adobe on Safari. ESPN.com, as example, has articles that have videos attached. The error message pops up that I must upload / update ADOBE. I do that, but it does not resolve the issue. APPLE believes that the program should be deleted, removed from the Mac, and then re-uploaded via Adobe Technical Support. Can you assist? Thanks. Bob
Hi novibob,
Are you referring to Adobe Flash Player here.
Please refer the KB Doc: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/troubleshoot-games-video-audio-flash.html

ive heard that the 2 managers of adobe & apple have had an almighty bust up, & so this has had an adverse effect on users of ipads or iphones or maybe even tablers
certain videos need adobe , & owners of ipads etc are unable to view these videos due to the childishness of these two managers
this has spoilt enjoyment of videos on apple products
In order to mask this, when an apple ipad owner wants to view a video & a flag flags up saying adobe flash is required, & when the customer clicks on the download adobe, a message comes up saying its not compatible
ADOBE SORT YOURSELF OUT SO PEOPLE CAN ENJOY THE BENEFITS OF BOTH PRODUCTS.Well, unfortunately Flash was the universal format, and then Steve Jobs decided that he did not like Adobe. As most browsers on Earth were FLV playback enabled and if not, were only a quick, free download away. Now, it seems that Apple's devices will only work with flavors of MOV. One can still download and install Apple's QT Player (though several recent versions did not work well with Adobe programs - Steve Jobs sabotage?).
Instead of coming together on universal formats/CODEC's, it seems that many wish to fragment the market to support just their products. One is at the mercy of these hardware and software companies. Producers probably should now do several versions of everything, if they wish to cover all bases. Someone will have to download and install something.
Good luck,

Why can't I register Adobe or Apple software?
I just recently got a MacBook Pro; I've registered it on Apple, but I cannot register any of my software, either from Apple or Adobe.
Adobe programs say: "Adobe could not register your product at this time."
GarageBand takes me to:
The Apple Product Registration website is closed.
If you’re trying to register an Apple product, chances are it’s already registered. Most Apple products can be registered when you turn them on for the first time and begin the setup process. Service and support for your Apple product are linked to its serial number, so it’s OK if you don’t register it. If you'd like to check the service and support coverage for your Apple mobile device or computer, click here.
Is there another way to register Apple software? Do I literally just need to wait a while and try again with Adobe? I feel it's a little too coincidental that neither will register for me...
I was told to register all my software so I could regain it if something ever happened to my computer. If you registered your MBP, your pre-installed Apple software is automatically registered too unless the software specifically request it. If this is the case, which software is asking you to register?
You can register Apple products by phone. Call Apple Customer Relations - 1-800-767-2275. Ask politely & firmly that you want to be transferred to Customer Relations. Tell them exactly what you stated in your post.
Adobe is 3rd party. You should contact Adobe Support and/or post in the Adobe Forums since it's their product you are having problems w/registering.
