Adobe - why not just release an MSI for every Reader revision???!?!?

Why do Adobe have a policy of publishing an MSI for major Reader releases but only MSP's for revisions?
If Adobe simply published an MSI for every revision (e.g. 11.0.09) it would avoid customers having to slipstream MSPs into MSIs which is a real pain in the backside.
There must be a reason why Adobe have decided to complicate deployment for minor revisions so I'd love to hear what it is.
Thanks

Howdy. Mostly if an employee shows up in here, it's someone from support and not any of the folks that would need to see this.

Good luck.

  • Why not support tree/shuttle layers for Structs/JSP in jheadstart 10.1.2.0.

Why not support tree/shuttle layers for Structs/JSP in jheadstart 10.1.2.0.
I want make tree style and shuttle style with Structs/JSP(jheadstart 10.1.2.0) in my project.
    Can you help me.
    Thanks for your help.

UIX provides tree and shuttle components that generate all the complex javascript required for these UI component.
We have no plans to create similar javascript ourselves so we can generate this with JSP. The future strategy for JHeadstart will be based on JSF / ADF Faces where we leverage UI components that have this functionality built-in, like UIX has today. With the JSF standard out there, we expect lots of sophisticated new UI components to come out, built by dhtml/javascript/ajax experts (which we are not).
Our focus (and core competency) is on generating applications by wiring together these sophisticated UI components, and not so much on building new UI components.
If you want to build this today using JSP I suggest you do some shopping on the internet, you wll probably find some sample code for trees and shuttles.

Adobe, Why doesn't the download link for FreeHand work???!!!!!!

Right! I tried the trial download links and nothing happens: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?loc=en&product=freehand
The download links are working for other discontinued programs like Pagemaker and GoLive but I see that this page officially made FreeHand no longer for purchase.

  • Adobe:  Why Not Update The Photoshop Download Package to 13.0.1?

Just for grins I downloaded the Adobe CS6 software again (all 1.17 GB of it) and compared it to what I downloaded before.  It's the same - 13.0.0.
Why the heck doesn't Adobe update their download package to the latest revision?
Who in their right mind at Adobe thinks it's a good idea to have customers download and try software with egregious bugs like the Text Layer Corruption problem or the Layer Bounds Slowdown problem or any of the other bunches and bunches of bugs fixed in 13.0.1?
Anticipating the answer "the prospective customers will immediately get the update notices and go through that process, and thus will be testing 13.0.1"...
Let me get this straight - you want potential customers to go through a 1+ GB download process, try to start using the software and immediately then have to download tens or hundreds of megabytes more software?  What, to show off your wonderful, reliable update process?  Are you nuts?
Adobe, you seem to be mired in processes that don't work.  Don't you think it's time maybe to re-evaluate them?
    -Noel

    Noel,
You could certainly be correct. I always install from physical media, so I do not know all the in-and-outs of the download files. I also will manually update my Adobe programs, via the Adobe AutoUpdater, so do not pay close attention to when the downloadable, executable files are posted.
However, and especially on the Premiere Pro forums, I do see the timing of the release of updates, both for Adobe Updater, and then for the stand-alones. As the announcements of such releases usually come from Adobe Staff, I have asked them questions on why certain timing differences exist, and the comments above are predicated on their responses.
I have never asked about updating the trials, or downloadable program packages, as those have never affected me before. I can only speculate that it takes a few more days to get the full package ready, than to do even the downloadable executable update, but could well be incorrect.
Also, I can see the potential for lag between an update, and getting that newer version onto physical media - also, I would imagine that Adobe and its resellers would want to clear the shelves of the earlier version (by this, I mean updated "versions," and not upgraded versions.). If I buy my media from Adobe, I anticipate that I might, or might not get the latest, update, so the first thing that I do, unpon installation, is to use Adobe AutoUpdater, to check - usually through Bridge for my suites.

  • Adobe will not accept Bank Direct Debit for payment

Adobe have just lost a Creative Cloud sale to me because it will not accept a monthly Direct Debit as means of payment rather than a credit card.  As the law on periodic payments via a credit card carries a high high compared to the law on bank Direct Debits, I am afraid that such short sightedness means "Thanks but No thanks!".  Pity! ( BTW Adobe bank Direct Debits provide more security for the supplier than credit cards.)

I do not know the details and I do not have a saved link, but I have read that it is possible to buy from an authorized merchant

  • Why not just do "Upgrade and Install"? From 10.2.8 to 10.3.5

Ready to install 10.3.5, but am a little overwhelmed with different advice. No one recommends the "Upgrade & Install" method. When researching many posts, was wondering why not? It looks like it won't affect anything on my imac G4 except to upgrade the necessary system stuff. Is this true?
Am mostly concerned about time - and having to reinstall printer drivers, my dsl connections, support files for OS 9.2 apps, etc. I am not having any problems with my 10.2.8, simply want to upgrade for the newer Safari browser, etc.
    Thanks for any help.

You certainly can do an Upgrade install of Panther over your Jaguar installation. It will not affect your OS 9 installation. However, before you do so be sure to do the following:
Boot from your OS X Installer. Be sure to use the installer for the version of OS X you have installed. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu if using Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.0.6 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
As always you should make a bootable backup of your current system as a precaution. You can do this using a utility called Carbon Copy Cloner (www.versiontracker.com) and an external Firewire drive.

  • Why not create an external camera for the first iPad ?

This will resolve the issue to upgrade IO6 and still available for everyone as supplemental device; this can be used for intrusion detection, or take care of the baby, for examples.
Apple meet a problem, and can use it for the best of each other.
I used to use a lot of Apple products (1 MacBook, 2 iMac, 2 iPod, 1 iPhone, and 1 iPad) so I'm sad to start a rebellion again Apple...
Have an iPad without any internal video device is a must for people working in secret area, keep that in mind (and perhaps restart first iPad production)

  • RoboHelp 9 Publish to SharePoint - why not just change output folder?

    Hello,
For publishing my help to SharePoint, I was not able to get the video publishing to SharePoint to play, but tried to follow what written instructions I could find. and they didn't work. However, I was able to publish directly to SharePoint by simply changing the "Output folder and Start page" on the "General"  WebHelp single source layout settings page. I just made the files go directly to the SharePoint document library - into an empty folder I placed there.  Here is the path I used: \\sharepoint\HR\HCMHRResources\OnlineHelp\HRSpace\index.htm    It seems to work fine. Is there any reason I should not do it this way?

Oops... my bad My Bad MY BAD!
That will teach me to reply without fully comprehending the thread. I was thinking you were referring to typing the UNC address into the publish destination field. But after looking at it again it seems you are talking about where WebHelp is generated.
Actually you DO NOT want to work that way. Here's why.
If you are placing content on a shared medium, odds are that users are accessing it from there, no? The first steps in the generation process involve removing the content from the folder in preparation for receiving a new round of content. And as you may imagine, if users are looking at the information and suddenly it's deleted, it's going to cause issues.
You always want to generate to your local hard drive. Then copy that content from your generated location to the server. And that's what Publish (which is what I thought you were doing) accomplishes.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Why not just use UDP?

I have UDP code written in Java that listens to an IP address and port number containing data being sent to that IP and port number. Why wouldn't I just continue to use the traditional UDP paradigm instead of JMS? My ReceiveSocket class creates a new java.net.MulticastSocket instance, creates a new DatagramPacket for reading the bytes, and then takes the datagram packet as input:
    private MulticastSocket m_socket = new MulticastSocket( m_receivePort );
    private DatagramPacket m_packet = new DatagramPacket( buf, buf.length );
    m_socket.receive( m_packet );
I'm able to receive the data being sent and process it. Can someone explain the benefits of the JMS approach?
    Thanks!

I would add to Steve's points that the difference in technical specification between UDP and TCP is that TCP guarantees delivery, in order, for messages that are too large to fit in one packet. UDP does not guarantee delivery, or the order of the packets, but it is much faster than TCP.
It is easy to imagine an application that may want guarantees for some data, and does not care for other data. To address this situation, some implementations of JMS go beyond the specification and provide features to allow non-guaranteed data transfer. For instance, I have been using Sun Java System Message Queue which allows NO_ACKNOWLEDGE which increases performance at the cost of reliability.

  • Why not just have phone delivered?

I was just looking at posts here and on att and see a lot of people are reserving to pick up at the store. My question is why? I figure it's a lot of hassle to "camp out" to pick up the phone instead of just having it delivered to your house or work.

Instant gratification. Lack of trust in shipping. Not home to accept shipment. I'm certain there are a number of reasons.
I had originally planned to pick up in store becaue I'm due to catch a plane later in the evening on 6/24 - my mail runs late. Made a reservation online - only to call the store later yesterday evening to confirm and they had no record of my reservation. So... I opted to buy it through AT&T. If I'm not home when it delivers, it will be waiting for me when I return.
