Adobe won't load pdf's in Safari

To fix it I was given instructed to fix the problem which include disabling this function.  How do I disable the "Display PDF in browsers using:" option in the "Internet" section of Preferences.  Its grayed out so I cannot change it by clicking on it.

Open up Finder and go into /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/. Delete any and all Adobe PDF plugins. Then empty the trash, quit and restart Safari. It should work then.

  • My Safari won't load PDF's

For months now my Safari won't load pdf's. They just don't show up. I saw an answer in this community to delete a certain plug in. I looked for that and I didn't have that plug in. Any other suggestions to help get this figured out would be splendid.

    Hi...
Make sure you are looking in the correct Library. There are two. One is root, one is your Home folder.
    Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select MacintoshHD in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Internet Plug-Ins folder.
If you see this file:  Adobe PDF Browser plug-in
    Move it to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari.
Tip.. if you are given instructions to go to the root library you'll see this:   /Library
For your home folder you'll see this:   ~/Library
The (Tilde) character before the forward slash denotes the Home folder.

  • Why will Adobe Acrobat not load PDF from my work website, but will load on other computers?

Why will Adobe Acrobat not load PDF from my work website, but will load on other computers?  I have to log in to a website to get our orders, and we thought it was the website at first, but have since realized it is just my computer with this issue.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software and still it does not work.

You ask "why", but don't provide any information...
    What is your operating system?
    What is your web browser?
Are you asking about Adobe Reader or Acrobat?
What is your Reader / Acrobat version?
What exactly means "will not load"?

  • TS1702 iBooks won't load PDF files any more on my Ipad2. Anybody seen this one before?

    Hello All,
iBooks won't load PDF files any more.
I have a lot of PDF files so I thought I reached a maximum number of files or space so I deleted a lot of old files but this did not help.
I rebooted, synced, updated, restarted, etc. - everything that I can think of and I still have the same problem.
I don't remembered the last file that I loaded into iBooks, as I usually put them into collections.
I can still load PDF files into other applications like PDF Reader, but I prefer to have them all in iBooks.
    Anybody seen this one before?
    I have 64GB iPad2 and I have over 14GB free space.

There have been several threads on this topic over the last few weeks. It's not clear what the issue is, and it is not universal, but tend to effect users storing large numbers of PDFs in iBooks. Possible it has some thing to dowith capacity of the app, or specific characteristics of some of the PDFs.
You might have a look at the "More Like This" list to the left of this page.

  • My MacBook Pro won't load any websites on Safari (except this site, Facebook and Google), Opera, or Mozilla Firefox. I already did the "Reset Safari", restarted the computer half a dozen times, and I can't find this alleged "caches.db" file to delete.

My MacBook Pro won't load any websites on Safari (except this site, Facebook and Google). Opera and Mozilla Firefox won't load any sites whatsoever. I already did the "Reset Safari" several times, restarted the computer half a dozen times, and I can't find this alleged "caches.db" file to delete. I virus scanned the computer with Sophos, Avast, and iAntiVirus and it looks clean.

Is iAntiVirus the best virus protection to use for a MacBook?
The best anti-virus protection is your own common sense, and what you already bought and paid for with your Mac. Third party products such as "iAntiVirus" convey no additional benefit, and as you already determined are very capable of causing trouble.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • Reader 6.0 won't load PDF's stalls on updater.api

I have a CDROm that I have loaded many times but no
w when I try to view the PDF files it stalls on:
loading & certifying updater.api it freezes and doesn;t move I have to restart my PC when I do that the END PROGRAM window make sme close FONT CAPTURE program whateve that is. I am using 6.0 but I updated to 9.0 at some point but that will not open the CDROM PDF files at all so I removed every Adobe file using remove programs and loaded 6.0 but still doesn't work. What do I need to do to fix this????? PLease HELP!!!

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Adobe won't load onto safari as plug-in after download

  • Adobe locks when loading pdf from sharepoint site

We have sharepoint 2010 in our environment. most of our users have adobe reader x. Some have acrobat standard X as well. I personally have Adobe Reader XI. Some of our users see this issue
Intermittently where when they are on the sharepoint site and they click on a pdf and say open as read only, if the user has adobe reader default to display in browser what happens is sometimes (not always) the page will just be blank and act like it is loading. This can take up to 8 minutes. Also, if the user has it open with the software and selects edit, the document takes just as long. I was wondering why the process of opening pdfs can be so slow sometimes. Any help is appreciated

    Hi MrSarcastic,
Does this happen when the end users are trying to view the same pdf simultaneously?

  • How do I restore Adobe Reader as default PDF viewer in Safari

Sometime in the last few days Preview became the default viewer for PDFs in Safari. I prefer Adobe Reader, and up until recently it was the default viewer. Funny thing is I don't think I've made any changes to Preferences or any System updates in that time. I don't see any Preferences in Preview, Safari, or Adobe Reader, which might affect this. The AdobePDFViewer plugins are still in place.
Also strange when I click the open PDF in Preview button, it actually opens in Reader.

Select the icon of a PDF file. Go to File > Get Info (or cmd-I). In the new window, go to Open with and choose in the pulldown menu the application you want to use to open PDF files. Click on Change all... Close the window. Come back here and tell us if this did it.

  • Safari slow or won't load pages since recent Safari update.

Safari is slow to load or will not finish loading pages since installing latest Safai update.  I have to constantly use the refresh button to finish loading pages.  Other browsers work fine.  Contacted Apple support, went into safe mode and verified disk and repaired permissions but no improvement.  What can I do?

Oh well - they were only the first steps.
    Next steps would be:
    Finder
    Go
    Computer
    Preferences
SystemConfiguration <--- Copy/Paste this folder onto your desktop and then delete from the Preferences folder
    Reboot & Test
    Once done, do the following:
    Apple Logo
    System Preferences
    Network
Ethernet / WiFi (Click on whichever method you are using to connect to the internet, on the left column)
    Advanced (bottom right)
    DNS (Tab)
    Left Column, Click +
Add the following numbers: (Click +, type the first set of numbers, hit return. Repeat process for second set)
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Reboot & Test
If the issue is still occuring..
    Apple Logo
    System Preferences
    Users & Groups (or Accounts)
Unlock Padlock (bottom left, with administrator password)
    Click +
    Change Standard to Administrator
    Account Name: Test
    Full Name: Test
    Password: (leave empty)
    Create User
On the left column you will now see 'Test - Admin'
    Apple Logo
    Log out
    Log into 'Test' account
Test to see if your issue with iTunes & Safari occurs in this account and report back..

  • HT6065 Adobe Reader blocks PDF rendering in Safari

Adobe Reader [plugin] blocks PDF rendering in Safari. Error Message tells user to start Adobe Reader and accept the EULA, then restart Safari.
MBP 15.4" Mid 2012 Retina 8GB DDR3 1600 Mhz Ram Running 10.9.1 (build 13842).  I have AR installed--not sure where the EULA is... Help is no help...
Seems to happen with some sites that use web forms.
    Any ideas?

Forgot to add--PDF forms from websites pull up fine in FireFox 27.0.1 and Chrome 32.0.1700.77.  So, it appears to be a Safari issue... Or perhaps an issue with a plug-in or extension...?

  • Hotmail won't load in Safari

    Hi all,
Hotmail won't load for me in Safari - it just keep cycling through attempting to load.
    Anyone got any ideas ?
    Thanks !

That is a really annoying problem which my wife encountered when she tried to access her hotmail.
What I've used is this using the iPhone:
mobile.live.com/hm/folder.aspx (found using google and typing hotmail mobile).
This usually brings up a phone friendly screen where you type in your id and password. Afterwards, I believe every time you go into that from your iPhone, it will remember you and go directly to your mail.
    Hope this helps!

  • Certain web sites won't load on any browser on Macbook Pro

Starting yesterday certain web sites won't load on any browser (Safari or Chrome). These include sites like the New England Journal of Medicine, Washington Post, and English Bulldog News. I get an error message in Safari that the server took too long to respond and in Chrome I get a connection timeout error message. I updated Adobe Flash with a clean install as I was unable to update using the standard method due to connection timeout. That restored my access to YouTube video but today it takes ~2 minutes to load a YT video. Web sites are loading fine on my phone and household PCs.
Not sure if it is notable that my internet loading capacity has been very slow for some time. I worked with the internet company to increase the network speed but my computer has not seen benefit. No problems on the PCs in our house but my Macbook very frequently gets partially "kicked-off" the network as indicated by yellow lights seen next to the "internet" and "server" items in my Network Diagnostics utility.
I looked at old threads and ran EtreCheck (see results copied below) as was recommended to another user several months ago, but would appreciate any thoughts about where to go from here. Could it be malware? Or just a classic case of operator error? Here are the EtreCheck "red" items extracted from the full report below:
