Adobe won't open a file that Adobe reader will....

I have a file created by a third party (scanned) that opens fine in Acrobat Reader but doesn't open in Acrobat 10.0.3. This is on Windows 7. The PDF cproducre is Pixel Translations (PIXPDF Ver.7.5.48) and the version is 1.1 (Acrobat 2.x). There are a number of patches between 10.0.3. and the current as of 12/16/2013 version 10.1.8. Is this something that is resolved in the patch or are there other potential causes?

Apple introduced a new document architecture with Pages v5, that is not backwards compatible with Pages '09. With Pages v5.5.2 (Yosemite) installed, a simple double-click on a Pages '09 document will default open it in Pages v5. Once you save, or Pages autosaves this document, it is no longer directly compatible with Pages '09, without first exporting it to Pages '09 format. Pages v5 documents do not contain index.xml files, and Pages '09 documents do.

I just bought a 13" MacBook and transferred everything from my 12" PowerBook to the MacBook. I just tried to open a file saved with Adobe and I get the following message:
You cannot open the application “Adobe Reader” because it is not supported on this architecture.
Any suggestions?

Yep you need Adobe Reader for Intel. Actually you don't even need that. You could use Preview to view .pdf's but I always use Reader. Don't really know why

• Computers running Vista won't open PDF files with Adobe Reader

• Adobe Won't Open Zip files

I have Mac Book Pro running OS X 10.9.2. In either Google or Safari, Adobe will not open zip files saying they are not supported or the file is damaged. Have checked the plugins on Google and enabled Flashplayer and reader. I have managed the website settings on Safari to enable Adobe Reader. Quicktime is up to date.
All suggestions will be gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance.

Select a .zip file, select "Get Info" from the Finder menu and change the setting for zip files to always open in "Archive Utility.app":
After you select that default application, make certain that you select "Change All."

• Preview fails to open a file that Adobe Reader will open

I get statements from Wells Fargo downloaded with filenames like session5.cgi. If I double click them, they open just fine in Adobe Reader. But if I control-click and specify Preview as the application, then nothing happens and the fie is not opened.
I prefer using Preview for everything I can, and would like to avoid using Adobe Reader. Can anyone figure out why i can't?

Thanks. I knew that would work. But I am asking (I guess) why using control-click and choosing Preview doesn't. I notice that preview isn't included in Recommended Applications, but that is understandable given the suffix .cgi.
When I use the ctnl-click, Preview immediately becomes the active applicaiton (it's already runing), but then nothing happens, and it continures to display the file it was displaying before i did all this.

• Adobe won't open RAW files

I've read numerous forums about this issue and similar instances but I have tried everything and on the verge of getting a new computer because this is all so frustrating. I have a 3 yr old iMac with not many files on it.
This was my most recent attempt:
plug my Nikon D60 into computer, open elements and it immediately crashes, elements then opens up and crashes again when i choose import from camera.
so then i imported a raw file with iphoto, exported to desktop and then tried importing in elements... it used to say "does not recognize file type" but now it is simply crashing.
Lightroom is even worse... when trying to import a raw file from desktop it simply crashes without any sort of message other than the error report details which unfortunately i am not technical enough to understand. PLEASE HELP!! i am so eager to begin editing my thousands of raw files.

Okay, if you want tonemapping, you can't do that in PSE 6 (you can in the version of bridge that comes with PSE 8) or iphoto. For what you want to do, I would try lightroom. (I haven't used it in a while, but I believe the raw converter there is more full-featured than the PSE version). So I would let LR import your photos and do your raw conversions there. You could set PSE as your external editor for when you need to do more.
Now as far as crashing goes, have you repaired permissions since installing the adobe products? You did install them from admin accounts?
(You may need to update the ACR plug-in for lightroom, and you definitely want to do that for PSE. The PSE plug-in and instructions are here).

• Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. How do I get and install the right version of Camera Raw?

Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. I was told to update Camera Raw to at least 7.2. I tried to download this but got a DNG Converter instead. Where is Camera Raw? (it does not show up in a search of my hard drive. There is a folder of camera profiles but no extension or plug-in with this name). How do I find out what version I have already? How do I get the correct version? . . . OR . . . is it the case that Bridge will never open Sony raw files directly and I will have to do a separate conversion process every time I want to use a raw file??. Can someone explain this?
Thanks.

• How do I get firefox to open pdf files with Adobe reader instead of google?

Firefox is unsucessfully using google to open pdf files. How do I get firefox to open pdf files with Adobe reader?

"Google" is a search engine (website) and NOT (repeat: NOT) a PDF viewer. It can't and won't open PDFs in any real or imaginable way.
Firefox added their own proprietary PDF viewer with version 20 - they're on 21 now. I'll be the first to admit "it sucks". You CAN'T fill in PDF forms with it, and you can't email them from the page like with Opera, Safari or Chrome (which use the reader plug-in still).
Unfortunately, the ONLY option you have now that they've added it and killed the ability for the Reader plug-in to work with Firefox, is Tools>Options>Applications - select Portable Document Format(PDF) and choose "Use Adobe Reader (Default)". What that will do is FORCE Firefox to download the PDF instead of opening it in their terrible PDF viewer in the browser window.
Or... use one of the other browsers I mentioned. They're all free.

• I'm not able to open PDF files in Adobe Reader XI.

I recently updated to Adobe Reader XI and now I can't open any of my PDF documents or PDF e-mail attachments. When I click on a document I now get a window that asks if I want to allow this file to open. I click yes and get a monstrousity the likes I've never seen. It blacks out my screen for a couple seconds and then I get a mixture of my desktop, task bar, and a window wanting to know if I want to open this with Protected Mode disabled. It only fills 3/4 of the screen, the items all all blown-up in size, and are distorted. In playing with this I have gotten notes that I have an "Incompatable Application" and "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDS Server". On occasion I will get an Adobe Reader screen that is completely greyed out with no content in it and after a couple of seconds it goes off. Other times I got the window about Protected Mode and I've clicked on to disable it but that doesn't work either. I removed Adobe Reader XI and re-installed Adobe Reader X and I still have the same problem which I did not have before. I 'm running Windows 7 Professional and have McAfee anti-virus, which I have disbled on one occasion during download and that I still had the same problem. I went to program files to find the End User License Agreement and try to see if I needed to click on 'Accept" but it tells me the file does not exist. I even tried using System Restore to take me back to before I did the upgrade to Adobe Reader XI and I still have this problem. I'm at the end of my knowledge level and because these files are needed in my business I'm only able to operate at about 50%.

• Opening PDF Files in Adobe Reader XI directly from SharePoint 2013 Site

I am trying to open PDF files in Adobe Reader XI directly from a SharePoint 2013 document library using Internet Explorer 11. When I click the file name it immediately opens the file in Adobe Reader, however it is downloading and opening the file locally
from the Temporary Internet Files location. If I add a comment to the PDF file, and save it will perform a Save As and the location will default to the temporary folder.
If instead of clicking the file name, I click the ellipses in SharePoint, copy the file URL, and go to Adobe Reader, click File > Open and paste the link into the file name, Adobe Reader will correctly open the file directly from the SharePoint site and
prompt for "Open and Checkout, Open, or Cancel".
Is there a way to get it so that when I click the file in IE, I get the same functionality as a File > Open in Adobe Reader?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
According to your description, you want to open pdf file in the Adobe Reader directly from document library.
I suggest you do as the followings:
1. In SharePoint Central Administration site, click Application Management->Manage Web Applications, select the web application for the site. Click Authentication
Providers, select default zone, and select Yes for "Enable Client Integration?".
2. click Site Settings-> Site collection features->"Open Documents in Client Applications by Default" click Activate
3. set the default open behavior for a document library by using the document library settings page.
4. Enable the “Adobe Arcobat SharePoint OpenDocuments Component”add-on in the IE11.
5. Add your current site URL to the trusted web sites in IE11.

• Functionality missing - excel opening pdf file launches adobe reader

When i opened a PDF file in excel or word it used to launch adobe reader instead and show me the file. Yesterday i installed internet explorer 8 and now this functionality has disappeard.
Anybody knows how to get it back?

Hi and thanks for replying.
Well, there used to be something running on the background that opens pdf files in adobe, even if you tried opening them in office applications. And i dont know how it works but now it's gone.
Problem for me is not the opening thru another program itself, but the functionality being there and now being gone with the installation of internet explorer 8. Also, for some people, like my father, opening something thru adobe reader is very different then opening something thru excel.
I hope this helps and some1 can point me to the background process to see if i can update/implenent something in ie8.

• Unable to open PDF files or Adobe Reader

I am unable to opern adobe reader or download a ner version of adobe reader.

Apparently the original software download was corrupt. I tried to
"change" it through the add and delete software area of Windows, and re-installed
the software. That seemed to work. Debating on whether to upgrade to one
of their other products. I could certainly use fillable forms, signature,
and modifiable documents.
Thank you for responding.
