  • Prints with wrong font and drops letters. Preview shows font correctly.

    I'm having problems printing some pdfs in Leopard. The preview shows correctly but the resulting printout is in the wrong font and has missing letters. Specifically every time there are two 'f' in sequence they get left out.
    Printing the same files on Tiger or even (Sigh) Windows yield the correct result. I've tested this with 3 printers (OKI C5800, Canon iR5000 and Canon iR C2620N). All with the same result.
    The pdf in question were created with LaTeX.
    Has anybody experienced something similar? What could be wrong?
    I can provide the sample .pdf file if necessary.

    After upgrading to Leopard, I was having trouble with my Samsung printer (ML-2150). Samsung hasn't upgraded the driver since OS 10.3, and it doesn't seem likely that they will ever do it. I found that the Linux-Foundation has an open source driver, which is compatible with a lot of printers. I downloaded the three components, and my Samsung is working perfectly now.
    I would suggest that you give it a try, here is the link:

  • Wrong font in PDF opened in Preview

    I have a Mac G5-Intel running 10.5.4. The problem is as follows:
    I make a figure (a plot) with Igor, save the plot as EPS. I use Preview or "epstopdf" command to get the PDF.
    For figures I processed before this problem showed up, the Preview displays the wrong font, but Acrobat displays the correct font (this is the font I selected in Igor when I first made the plot).
    For figures processed after the problem showed up, both Preview and Acrobat display the same wrong font.
    If I open the EPS version using some other application such as Canvas (a drafting software), the font displays correctly.
    If I try to alter the font in the PDF file using Acrobat (full version), the font cannot always be changed because "The compatible system font and the document font may differ and some characters may look different. If the font is not on your system, there will be no way to re-embed it. Do you want to proceed?" message appears. I click "yes" and the font changes to Arial (I had requested Helvetica).
    If I then want to change the font again to the previous condition, Acrobat refuses because "The change to a different font was not done because the chosen font and the font encodings in the document differ and could not be resolved."
    The problem never occurred in my older Mac Power PC running 10.4. In my new Intel Mac, there was a trouble-free couple of weeks after I got the machine.
    The problem doesn't happen when I take my pdf figures to a colleague's identical machine or to my Intel MacBook Pro laptop running 10.5.2.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    The problem also affects the same plots when they are part of a Latex output PDF made with TexShop. I thought this is normal, since Texshop uses Mac's PDF Preview machinery to process.

  • All Adobe PS fonts mysteriously removed from Word 2000 font library

    HELP !
    Operating System:     Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4
    Word Processor:        Office 2000 (including Word 2000) with Service Pack 3
    Adobe Type Manager Deluxe:     Version 4 .1 installed May 24, 2000, Serial Number XXXXXXXXXXXXXX-XXX.
    Adobe Postscript Fonts:     The entire library.
    On September 12, 2010, I opened up a Word document created in 1992 on my computer using Adobe postscript font AvantGarde.
    I immediately saved the document in the latest version of Word (i.e., Word 2000).
    I then highlighted the bolded caption to change the font size from 12 points to 13 points.     "13" is not on the font size drop down menu, so it has to be typed in manually.  I did that.
    The second I pressed the "Enter" key, the following events occurred:
                   The entire Adobe postscript font library disappeared from the Word 2000 drop down list of available fonts;
                   The installation date of the Adobe PS fonts all changed to the date I hit the "Enter" key (i.e., 9/12/2010);
                    The file size of each font changed to "OK";
                    The attributes of each Adobe PS font changed to "AC";
                    The file name of each Adobe PS font was broken by the insertion of an ____ in the file name; I don't know if it replaced any existing characters in the file name;
                     All the Adobe postscript fonts remain in the Master Font List of Adobe Type Manager Deluxe 4.1, as well as the Adobe folder containing all the Adobe PS fonts;
                     Every Word document ever created on our computer formatted in Adobe PS AvantGarde - about 95% of all our documents - defaulted to either Courier or Avant Guard (pronounce the same, but spelled differently); "Avant Guard" is a true type font.
    Adobe Tech support personnel were unable to assist me and suggested I present this problem to the Forum.
    I have the name of the engineers who developed Adobe Type Manager Deluxe 4.1, as well as its technical specifications from Help.
    Adobe postscript font "Avantgarde" is practically our firm's logo. Readers recognize our work just by the font.  It's one of the most beautiful and readable fonts in the entire Adobe library.
                     I have no reason to believe the document itself that I opened was corrupted.
                     I have a complete back-up of our entire Adobe postscript library on a 100 MB ZipDisk, but I don't know if simply reinstalling the font files will correct the problem.     I don't want to make things worse by blind experiment.
                     All other font types remain in our Word font library list and are fully accessible; but none are as readable or as beautiful as postscript fonts.
                     Unfortunately, I am not a computer "techie", but I can follow instructions if I understand them.
                     Sincerely appreciative of knowledgeable assistance, I remain
                     Very truly yours,

    Any attempt to further analyze what happened on your computer would be totally a wide-assed guess. However, I could imagine hardware problems with your disk drive causing the type of symptoms you describe. If in fact you are using a computer system that was installed in May 2000 and especially if you are using the original disk drive, I suspect your luck in terms of system longevity may just have given out. (Ten years for a computer system and especially a disk drive is pretty long). Zip Disk? You'd better back that up to something more modern. Neither the drives nor media are readily available for that format anymore.

  • Problem with Embedded "Adobe Arabic" Font

    I realy have defficulty getting embedded "Adobe Arabic" font to work, beleive me, I have tried lots of different approaches, but it won't join the glyphs properly using it as Embedded font.
    Please try typing the word مُعَلِم into the textlayout component. notice this words uses the combination of letters and ligatures. if you choose to use the "Adobe Arabic" as a system Font assuming you have already installed the Adobe Arabic into the system, it shows as مُعَلِم, which is correct.
    However if you choose to use the Adobe Arabic font as an Embeded font, it displays the word as the above but puts spaces between each letter.
    I have tried brian's solution "Using a font SWF in a Flash Profession CS4 application" the World Language application, and still shows wrong and it does not join the glyphs properly if and only if you use letter and ligatures like the word مُعَلِم.
    in your example you have used the word الإخاء which renders properly but try using مُعَلِم and see what happens.
    Please have a look at the attached file for more information.

  • Adobe Postscript Fonts and Fontbook

    Many years ago, using Mac OS7, I bought some Adobe Postscript fonts and I was using Extensis Suitcase to manage the fonts. Now, I want to add some of those old fonts to my Mac Pro using Tiger 10.4.11 and Fontbook. Is there a way to get those fonts where I can use them in Fontbook? They won't open except in Suitcase - an application I haven't used in years and I no longer have. I have my old serial number but it won't accept it to open the fonts.
    So, the question is: How can I use these fonts today? Is there a way? Anybody?
    Thanks.

    I have my old serial number but it won't accept it to open the fonts.
    This number is to unlock an old Font Folio disk you purchased from Adobe? It may not work to unlock the disk because if it's that old (purchased around the same time as System 7), it would require Classic to run, which your new Macs can't do. You'll have to contact Adobe about that. I'm guessing their only solution would be to have you upgrade to Font Folio 11's OpenType fonts. But that's going to cost you full price anyway. Don't count on them to give you an alternative way to open that old disk. But it can't hurt to ask.
    This is confusing. First you say:
    They won't open except in Suitcase - an application I haven't used in years and I no longer have.
    Then follow it later with:
    Somehow Suitcase is holding them hostage where they can only be opened and used with Suitcase.
    Are you, or are you not using Suitcase on your current Macs?
    I'm going to guess though what your meaning is.
    If your saying you DO have Suitcase on your new Macs, they have nothing to do with Font Book not being able to open the fonts. Both are font managers. Nothing more. If they open in Suitcase, but won't in Font Book, then there's something wrong with Font Book.
    If you mean you DON'T have Suitcase on your current Macs, then the old version of Suitcase you previously used has absolutely nothing to do with being able, or not able to open fonts with Font Book. Again, they're both just font managers. They open and close fonts when you tell them to, that's it. They have no special ties to your fonts in any manner.
    Is any of this true?
    Type 1 PostScript fonts are a set. One file is a suitcase containing all of the low res bitmap screen fonts. The rest are the outline printer fonts. As an example, here's Adobe Garamond.
    Adobe Garamond
    AGarBol
    AGarBolIta
    AGarIta
    AGarReg
    AGarSem
    AGarSemIta
    The first file which I highlighted in green is the font suitcase of bitmap screen fonts. The rest are the outline printer fonts.
    1) The files for a Type 1 PostScript font must have both the screen and printer fonts for a given set in order to work. They also must be in the same folder.
    2) The suitcase of bitmap fonts will work alone, but output will be terrible since the system will print the fonts using the 72 dpi screen fonts in the suitcase if the outline portions are missing.
    3) Having only the outline fonts will not work. You will get exactly what you are having problems with. You can see the fonts, but they will not load. That's not a problem with Font Book, Suitcase or other font manager. None of them, nor the system itself will load outline fonts from a Type 1 PostScript font without the matching suitcase of screen fonts present.
    So are you simply missing the screen font suitcase for those outline fonts that Font Book can't open? If so, that's normal. You must have both in the same folder.

  • How to install Adobe Hypatia Fonts in Windows 8?

    I recently downloaded the Acrobat software and am entitled to a free gift after registering the product. I opted for free download of the Adobe Hypatia Font Family.  However, the installation instructions did not include how to install the fonts in Windows 8. Can someone kindly guide me through the process? Many thanks.

    Search Google using terms like "Windows 8 install font" and you will find several helpful results.  Here's one now:

  • Problems in IE -internet explorer- with Adobe web fonts embedded in EDGE compositions

    Hi again friends,
    For simplifying the problem: Im trying to create compositions, just some animated texts over video, using adobe web fonts in Edge. In this case using muse to insert them.
    Everything works fine, but after uploading the result compositions, they always work fine in Chrome or Mozilla, but they dont work always fine in Explorer (tested in diferent versions and OSs).
    Frustratingly, sometimes IE display the fonts correctly, some other times changes the font to arial or similar...
    Frustrating example: Two instances of the same composition (only text moving over mp4 video) and sometimes one work fine and the other is changed to arial, some other times both ok, some other both arial.... its crazy.. just refresh, and it changes!!
    If I create a page with only one composition (text over video) it works fine 90-95% of the times in IE. just refreshing... and after some good attempts.. the arial font apperar smiling to me!!!!!
    Any suggestion?
    What can I do?
    Checked with diferent systems using latest versions of Edge and Muse in my job, only in Windows systems.
    Sorry for my english, I hope is well explained...

    Hi,
    I have prepared for you a basic composition where the problem ALWAYS appear:
    The page uses 2 compositions created in edge, inserted in a Muse project via .oam file (note that publishing directly to web structure, the problems occurs too)
    1.- The upper element of the page is one composition with only ANIMATED TEXTS over a simple MP4 VIDEO BACKGROUND. The used font is -Fredoka One-
    This first  composition is inserted in the Muse Master page
    In the Muse index main page are the other 2 elements:
    2.- Above the first composition there is another Edge composition, that contains 4 video backgrounds with a title over each one. The font of each main title is -Fredoka One- too.
    3.-In the bottom there is inserted THE SAME composition than in the upper side of the page.
    Yuo can see it in http://www.comunicracia.es/
    As you can see, everything is OK using Chrome or Mozilla, BUT PLEASE TAKE A LOOK USING INTERNET EXPLORER.
    Using IE I can see every combination of problems with the font, BUT never the 3 elements Fine!!! (The tittles font is replaced by Arial frustratingly without any rule)
    (My experience FYI) In this composition I have prepared for you,  the bottom composition is usually (90%times) OK, the upper composition is usually (95%times) BAD, and the middle composition usually (70%times) BAD.
    If I publish only the first composition in the page, it works fine in IE 95% of the times.
    Pleeease, its frustrating..
    Any suggestion?
    What can I do??
    Thank you very very much in advance, my friends!
    All the best

    <td><b><font size="-1">Bold Text</font></b></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </body>
    </html>

    I ran your code and the output text looked like it was plain. However, all the Verdana fonts on my system look
    pretty close to plain text, so I didn't know wether it was working or not.
    So I ran your code but replaced the font with a more stylish one on my system (called "Chiller") in the html file. I got the correct results.
    The posiblity then exists that "Verdana, serif" in your html file is not the proper way to reference
    the font you're looking for. And if the JEditorPane can't find the font name on your system it defaults to plain text. "Chiller"
    seemed to work fine for me.

  • Getting error message about  Adobe UI font with CS2

    I'm using CS2 on WK@pro, during startup Photoshop I suddenly get this message " The Adobe UI  font could not be loaded. For best result exit the program and either install or uninstall other fonts"  the system halt, by clicking "ok" the system resume startup and works normal.
    I have tried everything but can't get rid of this annoying message. Anyone familiar with this problem?
    Thanks
    Ron

    "WK@pro"   What the heck is that?
    Sounds like you've deleted some files that Photoshop installed (in this case the UI font file).
    You probably just need to reinstall Photoshop, figure out how you deleted the font file, and not do that again.
