Adobe XI Acrobat won't save documents after scanning

Quite frustrated with this issue.  I just purchased 23 new workstations and bought Adobe for them.  3 have Pro that I downloaded straight from Adobe's website, 20 have Standard that came through Dell Digital Delivery.  Every single workstation has this same problem where we can use our desktop scanners to scan in documents, but then we can't save them using the "Save" or "Save As" button.  This happens about 90% of the time, and then it works properly the other 10% of the time.
I've updated the drivers and the firmware on my scanners and each of these workstations is brand new, ordered from Dell, Optiplex 9010s and 7010s with 8 GB ram, i5 or i7 processors, Windows 7 64 bit, brand new Acrobat version 11.
We've been using Adobe Acrobat for a long time.  Version 7, 8 and 9 on our XP computers and have never had this problem elsewhere.  Out of curiosity I removed XI and installed 9 on to one of the workstations and it worked perfectly.  I removed 9 and reinstalled 11 and the same problem is present.
I spent more than 6 hours in chat support between 5 different techs this last Friday and they're telling me they don't know what the problem is and that it has to be referred to a developer.
Anyone else having this issue?  Any solutions?  Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I've worked with several more different techs and had my 3rd party IT company work with Adobe as well.  At several different points in time, the techs were totally not comprehending what the problem was, even though it was spelled out in plain English for them.  We're on Win 7 and two different techs were working with me as if I was on Win XP.  There is a terrible lack of communication with Adobe, even when I've sent in detailed information in writing to them.  They've failed to escalate to higher tier techs and keep having techs work with me that are reading from an online manual rather than being knowledgeable in the inner workings of Acrobat.  Very frustrating.  3 techs in a row attempted to appy the same fix, that didn't work, after reading the notes from the previous tech who attempted the same fix.  It was a total run around and the worst tech assistance I've ever received.
At this point I've reloaded the Adobe software multiple times, installed updates and also used scanners with recent firmware and old firmware and it's still a problem.  After playing with it for weeks on end, I found that using "custom scan" and having it set up for "native mode" works successfully 100% of the time.  Any time I try any other scan options, I have the same problem again.  I've issued the Custom Scan directive to my staff and we are completely trouble free using this method.
I finally got an answer, 6 weeks later, from Adobe after one of their people corresponded with Kodak on this issue.  They tell me that according to Kodak, we'll have to use Custom Scan in order to run trouble free...which of course we already found out.
So, try the Custom Scan and in Native mode.  It's not inconvenient and works fine.  Good luck to everyone.
PS...also, I found this issue to happen with both Adobe Acrobat X and XI on Windows 7 machines.  Adobe 8 and 9 work trouble free on the Win 7 machines.

I am adding links to a PDF file. I have done several, including the index of the file. Acrobat won't save any more though. Why?

    Sara,
The Save As allows me to save the changes, but the regular save will still not function. I seem to recall a similar issue with the last version of this document, with a similar number of links.
    Thanks,

  • When I get the Please wait... message and have the latest Adobe update why won't the document open?

When I get the Please wait... message and have the latest Adobe update why won't the document open?

What is your operating system?  Reader version ("latest" means nothing)?
Is this a local or only PDF?  If online, in what browser?

  • Unable to open documents after scanning

I am unable to open my documents after scanning. I keep getting the message Adobe reader could not open because it is either not a supported file type or because the file is damaged, then it redirects me to a buya subcription Adobe reader XI. These documents are just regular standard 3 to 11 gray scale scans, nothing special. I just need my regulay Adobe reader to open A PDF file. Please help.

just to clarify, you're scanning a document and then you are saving that as a pdf file, correct?
in particular, you are not trying to add the scanned document to an already existing file (pdf or otherwise), correct?
if yes and yes and your reader and can that pdf ok, you have a scanner problem.  try updating your scanner's drivers.

    Hi Kate ,
You might want to uninstall and re install Acrobat DC trail pack .
See if that fixes the issue .
You might want to refer the following link and see if it helps you .Though ,this link is for prior Acrobat versions but you can follow the steps mentioned in the document and check if they of any help or not .

  • Acrobat won't save as a Reader Enabled PDF File

    Hello Everyone,
I'm having troubles with creating an editable PDF.  What my goal is for this document I'm creating is that when I send this doc to others they can fill in their name and be able to import their logo into this document.  Because you can't create an image field, my work around is creating a signature field for where they can place their logo.  Anyhow, my problem is that as soon as I create the signature field in Acrobat, I cannot save it as a Reader Extended PDF, because all of the options are greyed out.  I've tried changing some of the security settings to allow for this, but its not working.  I just want someone to be able to open Adobe Reader and be able to use this signature box.  If there is anyone that can help I would really appreciate it.
    All the best!
    m2b

    Hi m2b,
Do you sign the document before extending the features? If you do then make sure "Lock the Document after signing" checkbox is not checked. Try this:
    Clear all signature fields.
Click on the field that you want to sign
    "Sign Document" window will appear
In the left bottom corner this check box will appear.
    Uncheck it.

    Hey Zia,
Please check whether the scanner works fine with other applications or not.
On your Windows machine, please navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat" and move ACE.dll file to desktop.
Now, repair Adobe Acrobat from Control Panel and then try scanning PDF files.
If the issue still persists, then you might need to update your scanner drivers and then check.
Let me know if this helps.

  • Location of Save Icon after Scan from HP 8600 to Mac

After scanning a doc from my HP 8600 via wifi to my Mac, I am prompted to save the doc by hitting the Save Icon.  I cannot find the Save Icon.   Where is it?  I cannot find the scanned doc anywhere on my Mac.  Suggestions please.  Thank you.

    Hi RickP777,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I gather that you cannot find the Save Icon while scanning with your HP Officejet 8600 to your Mac. I am happy to help you with this scanning issue! I have some questions for you:
What program are you using for scanning?
Are you scanning from the computer, or the printer?
What Mac OS X are you using? OS X: Finding your OS version and build information.
In the meantime, please take a look through the How to Scan guide for your Operating System. Scan.

  • Acrobat X Pro won't save document b/c it thinks a file is already open, but it isn't

I get an error message when I try to save a pdf. It says that it couldn't save the file because it is already open, but there's no other pdf file open.
What is causing Acrobat to think that more than one file is open when there is only one file open?

    No, I'm running Windows XP.
The only thing open is Acrobat and the explorer window box that appears when you want to save a file.
It appears to me that Acrobat is still accessing data from a file that was previously open but is no longer open.
How do I make it so that Acrobat sees only the file(s) that are actually open and not files that have been closed?
My only way to work around this problem is to completely close Acrobat and then relaunch it in order to do what I need to do. Very inefficient.

  • User has to save document after electronically signing

    Hello all,
I created a fillable PDF with multiple Electronic Signature fields. When testing out the document, I entered my electronic signature, which I was able to enter without any problems. The issue is that after entering the signature, I am required to save the PDF. I had a version of this document from last year and it didn't require me to save after entering a signature. I'm using Adobe Acrobat 9, so I'm not sure if this is why this is ocurring, but I don't want everyone that signs the document to have to save it, I'd rather them save it when they are finished completing the form. Is there a way to disable this? I spent alot of time going through the forum and googling, but couldn't find anything about disabling this feature.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tina

    Hi Pedro and Tina,
Let me see if I can simplify Isak's answer.
Short answer, you have to save the file when you sign, there is no getting around this.
If you are interested why, then read on (if not, I understand)...
When you sign a file you are signing the whole file, everything top to bottom, left to right. Like anything in the computer world all files, be they a PDF file or a Word Doc or an e-mail, or a picture, or a music file, that is any file; is made up of a blob of electronic bits.
When you sign the file you are really signing this the big blob of electronic bits. These bits (Isak mentioned bytes, but a bytes is just 8 bits) control how the file looks (or sounds) and it's important that when you sign them that they are not changed during the signing process. If they were to be changed during the signing process you could end up signing something that you didn't really agree to. As an example, if you were signing a document that said I owe you $10 you certainly would want the amount to change (or at least become larger ).
To prevent the bits from changing it is best practice to write all of the bits to disk before the signature is created. You could do what is known as "sign in memory" where the signature is created without saving the file to disk, but (and this is the sad part) this is where the bad guys can take over and change things. It's much harder for someone to manipulate the bits that have been saved to disk then it is for them to manipulate the bits in memory. If there were no bad guys then we could enable signing in memory, but alas...
The signing operation is really an operation based of trust, that is, you trust what you are signing is correct and the document recipient trusts you are who you say you are. Should the signed data be compromised it would be a very bad thing for all involved and that includes Adobe. Thus the ability for things to go wrong must be minimized and that's why you have to save when you sign.

  • Adobe Acrobat 11.0.06 Crashing after scan

    Hello
I am facing problems esp when using 'Create -> PDF from Scanner '
I am using Cannon MX472 multifunction printer and after it completes the scans I see the scanned pages for few brief second and then it crashes and I have to do the scan all over again.
I have apple computer with OS X 10.9.2 and also not able to find my printer when I select option ' TWAIN' in
Convert to PDF -> Scan -> Scan Driver but my printer shows up when I select ' image capture ' option.
This is really bugging me a lot as I have to scan many many documents during course of day and its double work for me.
Apart from adobe crashing all my scanned documents are coming out as grey when canned even when I select image adjustment to document.
Please advise how to fix this problem.
    Thanks
    Vishal

I tried these steps and it did not fix the problem I am having:
    > Remove any other instances of Acrobat if installed on the machine like previous version Acrobat 9/X Pro . (Since it may conflict the application.)
    > Make sure Acrobat is Updated till 11.0.06
    > Launch the Acrobat XI Pro
    > Go to Acrobat Icon on Finder and then Select the Preferences Option.
    > Under Categories : Go to Accessibility : And then under "Other Accessibility Options" -
Deselect the check box which says - "Enable assistive technology support"
I do not have these options:
    > Also under categories go to > Convert to Pdf > Used TWAIN first > Hit ok > Then close the Acrobat XI Pro and then relaunch the acrobat.
    > Again go to Preferences and under categories go to > Convert to Pdf then select the Image Capture and then hit Ok button.
    > Close acrobat and then relaunch it and see if it Helps you while you do scanning.
    > Would recommend you to check to Scan the pdf when the scanner is connected through wire.

  • Cannot save documents after updating to Pages 5.5.2

After updating to Pages 5.5.2, I can no longer save or edit documents. It just says that (document name).pages can not be created. Same thing happens if I try to export to .docx or .pdf. Please help, I can no longer work, the update completely broke my program.

    Hello mckayj93,
It is hard to say why it is not allowing you to save or export a file, but try deleting pages from your Mac and then download it again so it will install a fresh copy if you think it was something to do with the update. There will be a record of Pages associated with your Apple ID so it will not charge you to download it again.

  • Pages won't open document after "making size smaller"

I've been working on a document in pages 5.1 for several months now, with no issues.  After exporting the file to a PDF, I realized the file size was too big for an email so I tried the "reduce file size" button.  Now the document won't open at all.  Suggestions?

Frankly working with Pages 5 is like a tightrope act over a long drop with broken glass at the bottom.
We get quite a few users here, who've "had no problems", …until they do.
You've tried opening the file from within Pages 5, using the Open dialogue?
If that doesn't open it your file is probably hosed:

  • Text edit won't save documents

Several days ago i started having a problem i never had before in a zillion mac years.  I use Text Edit a lot, to take quick notes or copy and paste things.  I save the documents, give them a name, put them in a folder, or throw them away.  Several days ago, i had some trouble saving.  This being Mountain Lion OS 10.8.5, i have to hold down the option key to get Save As to come up in the File menu. i don't really need it because Save will ask if i want to Save As, but it took me a while to understand that and by then i was in the habit of the option key.. Anyway, a few days ago, when i would click Save As, the file menu button would light up but instead of just quickly opening a Save As window, there was a delay.  Then, the window opened and i saved. As time went by, sometimes the File menu button would light up and just sit there, no window would come, and then after maybe 10 seconds, the light would go off and no save option window came up. That is the problem i'm having now. I have a bunch of text edit documents on my desk top, Untitled, Untitled 2, Untitled 3, etc.  I can't save them.  I click on Command S, same thing happens, i try clicking the Close button (red button in upper left) but it just lights up for 5 or 10 seconds and goes off. It doesn't ask me if i want to save before closing, as it used to.
Has anyone heard of anything like this before?  Is there anything i can try to fix the problem and to be able to save my documents?   If i force quit, will there be a saved version of the documents anywhere?  I have a Time Capsule. i've never tried to retrieve anything from it.  What a hassle.  i'd appreciate some help if anyone has heard of this issue.  I'm able to save/save as in Preview and in Word.  As far as i know the problem is just in Text Edit.

Control- or right-click on the file in the Finder & choose "Compress" from the contextual menu that appears. The option is also available from the File menu in the Finder.
