AdobePDFViewer.plugin And Default File Name When Saving

When I grab a PDF document from a web page, it opens in a Safari Window just fine, as expected. I get the Adobe Plug-in Tool Bar as expected. So now I want to File:Save As the document that I have grabbed and am now looking at in my Safari window. The File:Save As dialog opens and the document title always defaults to 'downloadDocument' instead of the actual name of the file that I have grabbed, even if the html has passed the true file name to the browser and plug in. This means I have to retype the name of the document before I click OK. What a pain......
I cannot find a preference or other setting that would be controlling this. I've looked through the Safari Prefs and the Adobe Prefs
I should note that I have Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 installed, and I'm running Safari 3.2.1 (5525.27.1) on an MBP 2.5GHz C2D with 4GB of RAM. OS X v10.5.6 totally current.
How do I get the default file name in the File:Save As dialog to be the name of the file I have grabbed?

Well, that results in the correct document name appearing in the Save As dialog.
However, it also means all the Adobe tools are gone.
And more importantly, it means that the in-document bookmarks are not available for use. The bookmarks are critical in our application. We work with very long documents (big insurance policies) that have many sections and hence they are all bookmarked so that we can move from section to section easily and find the specific sections, pages, endorsements, etc. that we need.
So, it appears my next step is to "visit" Adobe and find out why they don't play nice??????

  • Indesign CS4 "forgets" file name when saving as Postcript file.

    Like the title says Indesign CS4 "forgets" file name when saving as Postcript file.
    Example:
    I open up indesign CS4 and open up a file called "test5". Then I go to the print menu and save it as a postscript file. Once the save as dialog box comes up it wont say "test5" but it uses whatever file name I used last time I created a PDF.
    I want indesign to recognize that when I create a postscript file that I want it to be named the same way as my file that is open at that moment. Changing the file name every time is not bad when they are called "test5" etc but here at this company we use super long file names and it's a pain to change it every time.
    Funny thing: Some machines here do it the way in the example but other machines will do it the correct way by using the same name in the save as box.
    Any suggestions on how to fix this? If something is not clear just ask!

    How about this - it's a workaround, I can't change ID or your system.
    I'm big on EXACT filenames also, case and space sensative. Do a "Save As" before printing - the file name should be correct and highlighted, ctrl+c copy, escape/cancel the Save As. Paste in the filename during the Save as Postscript File.

  • Changing the default file name while saving the PDF interactive form

    Hi All,
    I am generating an Interactive PDF form using webdynpro, but when I try to save the PDF to my local machine the default file name comes as "<b>unknown.pdf</b>" so I have to manually go and enter the name before saving it.
    Is there any way to change this default name so that I don't have to manually edit the file name each time when I want to save the generated PDF interactive form?
    Please reply soon.
    Thanks in advance!

    I am running into the same issue. Setting the desname parameter (e.g. desname=temp.pdf) doesn't have any effect. Has anyone found a solution to this?

  • File names when saving scanned documents

    When I scan a document and then try and save the same, The scanned document is saved hiwever the name that I give to the scanned document gets truncated. I dont understand why,  I am using windows 7

    That is a long File Name.
    Did you create this long file name system at the same time you started scanning these documents?
    You have .pdf and .ld together as the file extension in the image you provided. What is .ld?
    Can you go to the file name and rename it to add the other characters and it stays?
    If not, I don’t think it’s the HP software doing this. It is most likely Windows.
    The only thing I can think of is that Windows uses what’s called an 8.3 file naming convention. It is built into Windows and it shortens long file names for MS-DOS legacy applications. Every long file name has an alias that complies with the 8.3 file names for backward compatibility.
    Take a look at this article from Microsoft on truncating names. This will explain what is happening (hopefully).
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/142982
    Also,
     Short file names may contain only the following characters:
    ·         Numbers (0,1-9)
    ·         Letters (A-Z, a-z)
    ·         Blank (blank spaces)
    ·         ASCII characters greater than 127
    ·         Special characters: $ % ' - _ @ ~ ` ! ( ) ^ # &
    Long file names may contain only the following characters:
    All of the characters supported by short file names
    ·         Special characters:  + , ; = [ ]
    Length of the long file names are limited to 255 characters (260 for full paths = the file name and root of the folder) and short file names are limited to 8+3 or 11 characters (80 for full path names).
    You can disable the 8.3 convention in Windows but there may be problems with some applications not being able to find files and directories that have long file names.
    This Microsoft article explains how to disable 8.3 on NTFS partitions.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/121007
    You will need to be logged in as an Administrator on the account. IF this computer is at your employers, you will have to contact their IT support for further discussion.
    Go to Start and type CMD in the Search bar. Right click on CMD in the list and choose Run as Administrator.
    Type in the command prompt
    fsutil.exe behavior set disable8dot3 1
    and press Enter.
    This operation takes effect immediately (no restart required).

  • Why can I not copy text from a file and paste into "File Name" when saving?

    I thought I used to do this but I cannot copy a string of text from within AI (CS5, CS6 or CC) then "save as" and paste into the "file name" field. Why would this be?
    This proceedure works fine in Photoshop.
    Mac OSX 10.7.5.

    I am copying the characters not the object. Something seems to have changed at the system level. I can paste the text to other applications (Skype, Word, etc.) but not the "Save" dialog. I have been pasting the text to a Skype message window and re-copying. Then it will paste into the save dialog. Weird.
    I see you are on 10.6.8. Maybe it's a system difference.

  • Custom file name when saving

    When my program creates a report, I want to save it as a serial number defined in the report.  I want to use the MS Office Report Express VI to do this but unfortunately it only allows you to save the file name as a time/date and/or incremental number.

    You can pass in the file name that you want to save the data to.  Why not build up your own file path?  The Build Path primitive will be helpful here.

    Officejet Pro 8600 Plus (new today - everything else working great), Vista 32-bit, HP desktop.
    After scanning documents and creating a PDF file (Save to file on my computer w/USB connection), using HP Scan, it does not append numbers in sequence to base file name.  HP Scan (Under Advanced Settings/Destinations) reads that it will do this (when you over over the base name field).  Perhaps I have to enable something.  Do you know how I can do this?  Thank you.

  • JFile chooser default file name setting

    Could anybody pls tell me how I can set a default file name when JFile chooser Save dialog box appears so that the user doesn't need to name the file to be saved. And I also want to get the name of a file from current selected directory so that I can warn user for the replacement, The code I tried with is as follows
    public void SaveAs()
                    String FileName="";
              JFileChooser jfc = new JFileChooser();
              int r = jfc.showSaveDialog(this);
              if (r== JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION)
                   FileName = jfc.getSelectedFile().getPath();
                   FileName=FileName+".java";
                   writeFile(FileName);
         }//End of SaveAs() Method
      public void writeFile(String fn)
               String contetnt="THIS IS A FILE";
              try{
                   FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(fn);
                   fw.write(contetnt);
                   fw.close();
              }catch(FileNotFoundException fnfe){}
               catch(IOException ioe){}
         }//End of writeFile(String fn) Method

    Works fine for me.

  • Is there a way to change the export default file name

    I have a request to change the default file name when doing a pdf export of a report. By deault, when pushing the export to pdf button, the name is NONAME.pdf. They want the default name to be the channel name is displayed on the report.
    Is there an easy way to do this, or will I have to load all new code into the export button?

    What you'll probably want to do is create a script that uses the Call Report.Sheets.ExportToPDF function and programatically specify the name.  From here, you could set it as one of the function buttons or even include it on the toolbar if you'd like.

  • How can I prevent Firefox from cutting off the title of a webpage for use as a file name when printing/saving as PDF if there's a / in it?

    Like it says in the question - when I try to print/save a webpage as a PDF, Firefox (version 36.0, Windows 8.1 64bit, German) usually uses the page's title as the file name. Slashes are, of course, not allowed in file names, but instead of just leaving leaving it out or replacing it with a hyphen, the title is cut off and everything before the last slash is gone, which in some cases results in very odd and misleading file names.
    Is this a known bug? I couldn't find anything. So I'm just wondering if there's either going to be a fix anytime soon, or whether there is a simpler solution than to generate a different title sans slashes specifically for Firefox users.
    Thanks in advance for Your help!

  • How to retain file name while saving file on archive servers

    Hi Experts,
    I am using function modules:
    ARCHIVOBJECT_CREATE_TABLE and ARCHIV_CONNECTION_INSERT for inserting a file to archive server and for linking it with a document.
    Then I am reading the URL using FM: SCMS_AO_URL_READ. When I get this URL and download that file, the file name will be always defaulted to 'pclHTTP.dll'. I debugged these FMs to a certain extent and found that this name comes from CREP_HTTP-HTTP_SCRPT table.
    Is there any way I can retain the file name while saving it so that when I read the URL it has correct file name in it?
    Please help.

    Hi Max,
    In case when downloading one file it is fine. But if I want to download 10 files at once and later if I go to my downloads, every file will be having similar name. Unless we open the file, we cannot know what file it is.

  • Is it possible to propose another default file name in ALV Excel Export?

    Hello All,
    I have a problem while exporting to Excel from the WD ALV. The whole process works fine, the problem occurs when the user wants to open (without saving) multiple exported Excel documents at the same time. In this case he gets an error message, that the document with the same name has already been opened.
    Therefore I have a question, is it possible to customize default file name, so that instead of 'export.xlsx' the file name will contain e.g. WD title&time (or something like that)?
    Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi,
    It's the standard functionality. You actually have to enhance the standard method, which is not advisable as the same will be called in other applications as well.
    So, Instead of that, hide the standard Export functionality and create a new Tool bar button, say, 'Export to Excel' and in on action of that button, use cl_wd_runtime_services=>attach_file_to_response ( and pass the file name by concatenating date/time) method to open/save the file.
    Check this document to create a custom button in ALV tool bar: Creating Self-Defined Functions in WDA ALV
    And, check this blog by Chris for code reference to have Export to Excel functionality: Using WD ABAP ALV export - the hacked way
    Hope this helps u,

    In the folder c:\dbdata I have a number of CSV files on the user frontend. I would like the BSP application to get the list of files in the folder and process them one after the other. How can I get the list of files on the folder in the user PC and how to process them one after the other.

    Please kindly share ideas how I can implement this app.
