Adober Reader 6.0 is ghosting my computer.

Hi,
I am working aith a computer running Windows XP, and I am trying to install Adobe Reader.  The problem is, every time I try to install Reader, whether it's the new version or an older one, the installer fails, because Adobe Acrobat 6 comes up in the place of Reader.  I have tried to remove Adobe Acrobat and found it's not on my computer any longer.  The files are all gone, and it isn't listed in Add/Remove Programs.  However some of it's old updates still linger on the Add/Remove Programs list.  Whenever I try to remove them, it always says cannot find uninstaller and asks me to find it in a dialog box.  I never have found it so I click Cancel and the Adobe Acrobat update that I was trying to unistall disappears from the list.  There are four of them.  Adobe Acrobat 6.0.2, then also 6.0.3, 6.0.4, and I think maybe 6.0.5.  I uninstall them one at a time with the same process described above always ending with me cancelling because there is no uninstall information and apparently Windows doesn't have any self contained protocol for removing unwanted stuff like this, so once cancelled the item is taken off the list.  The problem is it isn't really gone.  Everytime this happens they reappear after a restart of the computer, like they had never been deleted in the first place!  They also reappear after closing and then opening the Add/Remove programs dialog without a restart.  I don't even know for sure if this is what is causing the actual problem, that being that when I try to instal the new and old versions of Reader, somehow the installer gets Acrobat instead, thinking I am trying to update a program that isn't even supposed to exist on the machine any longer.  How it confuses the two is beyond me and very frustrating.  Is my only option going to turn out to be competely killing the machine with a reinstallation of the operating system after erasing and formatting the entire hard drive due to this confusing and frustrating dilema?  The only other thing I can think of, and this probably won't work either, is doing the installation after deleting the updates but before closing the Add/Remove Programs window so they don't have a chance to reappear before the instaltion takes place.  If anyone can help me it would be appreciated.

If the CD absolutely requires that old version, then it is basically obsolete. However, it might work with the current version ... have you installed the current version of Adobe Reader, and if so what does it say when you try to use the CD?

  • Cannot download Adobe Reader in Windows 7 on Dell computer

Whenever I try to download Adobe Reader, when I press "Finish" on installation, the Adobe logo takes over the whole computer and I cannot access any programme.  The entire taskbar becomes a series of Adobe logos and all programmes are preceded by the logo.
I cannot access anything and am forced each time simply to uninstall it again, and go back to Foxit Reader, but I really would prefer Adobe.  Adobe Flash Player works fine on the computer.  Can anyone help please?

    Hi penelopes6554204,

  • Which Adobe Reader version is installed in my computer?

I am thinking of getting the update for Adobe Reader version 10.  I know I have Adobe Reader 10.something!  I am satisfied with the Flash 11 and Reader products.
    * How do I find out which version of Adobe Reader (10.x.x) is on my computer??
I'd appreciate an answer if someone knows.
    Thanks!

Assuming that you are on Windows, open Adobe Reader | Help | About Adobe Reader X.  You will see your Reader version displayed at the bottom of that pop-up window.

  • I'm having difficulty in uninstalling Adobe Reader 9.5.1 from my computer. I have the 10.1.2 version

How do I unstall the Adobe Reader 9.5.1 version from my computer after having installed the 10.1.2 version? HELP!!

Usually older versions should automatically be uninstalled during an update/upgrade.
What is your operating system?  If Windows, try http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
You will need to reinstall the 10.x version again after this.

  • Adobe Reader 9.4.6 on my computer - is this Acrobat?

    Hello,
I downloaded a program from Adobe to display pdf files. I did not remember the exact link. It turns to be "Adobe Reader 9.4.6" from the About Screen. At an early stage I downloaded the X version but it crashed so I uninstalled it.
Now, I see that it allows me to comment a pdf file, namely "Microsoft_Press_ebook_Programming_Windows_Phone_7_PDF", while it does not allow me to comment another file. But I was said about differences between Acrobat and Reader, for example the need of a license to develop plugins for Reader, not for Acrobat.
-Is this program Reader or Acrobat?
-Does Acrobat let the user comment pdf files?
-Is "Adobe Reader 9.4.6"  the official free tool from Adobe to display and comment pdf files, available free to all users?
    Thanks

    - If you about>plug-ins says Adobe Reader, that's what you have (and not Acrobat which unlike Reader is a paid program)
    - Reader X provides certain commenting tools. You should be able to add comments and highlight text using commenting tool
         - Reader 9.4.6 does not have free commenting tools, there can be certain special PDFs where this is allowed but not generically
    - The paid product - Acrobat will let you comment any PDF as long as the author of the PDF has not applied security to the file disabing it
    - Both Reader 9.4.6 and 10 are free products from Adobe. As I note earlier in my reply, only Reader X has free commenting. Both Reader X and Reader 9 will let you view and PDFs and comments.
    - You can develop plug-ins for both Reader and Acrobat products using the free SDK. For Reader, you need to get a special certificate (available at small cost) that needs to be embedded in your plug-in.

I will agree with Test Screen Name, there is very less information to figure out the root cause of the issue you are facing. If you want to remove Adobe Reader, please use the cleaner tool - http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html

  • Windows Cannot Access Specific Device, Path or File While Using Adobe Reader XI, Version 11.0.06

    Hello,
Recently, I have been experiencing a minor problem with the Adobe Reader XI Program loaded on my computer.  When clicking the data fields on PDF versions of various forms to enter numerical or text information, a dialogue box with a small white X in a red circle on the left side of the title bar pops open and is titled:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\TabTip.exe
There is another white X in a red circle symbol displayed in the message field of the dialogue box along with the following message:
Windows cannot access the specific device, path, or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
There is also an “OK” Button displayed on the right side of the lower margin of the dialogue box.
Although the dialogue box is repeatedly displayed whenever I click on a data field, the program still allows me to enter and save the numerical and text information that is entered in each data field.
My computer is a Hewlett-Packard Envy 23-d034 TouchSmart All-In-One Desktop Personal Computer with a Windows 8.1 Operating System that has all applicable Important and Recommended Windows Updates installed.  The Adobe Reader XI Program is the latest version, Version 11.0.06, and I have confirmed that there are no updates for the program at this time.
Could you suggest any recommended actions to correct this problem with the Adobe Reader XI Program?

unfortunately no. i have a problem in my computer that doesn't let me do that.
this is  th entire message though and it appears on the background of the program trying to load. all you can see is the frame of Rreader, and immediatly after that it shuts down

  • Downloading pdf on iPad mini, opening in Adobe reader, won't open, saying this is not a valid pdf document

    Hi
I am trying to open a pdf document which is a course qualification handbook.
I have been able to open other pdf documents in the adobe reader app, any suggestions how I can open the above document.
I am using an IPad mini.
    Thankyou

Is the course qualification handbook "protected" in any way?  For example, to limit the access to the content, a protected PDF document may prompt you to enter user name and password or use some proprietary technology to obscure the content.
Adobe Reader mobile products (Adobe Reader for iOS, Android, Windows Phone) do not support eBooks, protected PDFs, etc.
Would you try opening the course qualification handbook in the desktop version of Adobe Reader on your Windows or Mac computer and see what happens?

  • How do I use a protected document in Adobe Reader?

I am trying to use a document that requires a user name and password in Adobe Reader on my tablet. The problem is that I have tried everything and nothing I do will allow me to enter this information. It says editing is not allowed with this protected document, but it is set up to allow editing so I can put in the info required to unlock the contents. I have attempted to search your database and all the answers I have tried have not worked. Please help! I am at a loss and I need this document unlocked. Thank you!

Adobe Reader mobile products (Reader for iOS, Reader for Android, etc.) do not support commenting or form filling with secured (hence, encrypted) PDF documents.
Please use the desktop version of Adobe Reader on your Windows or Mac computer to fill in the secured PDF form.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Hi am ksbolubanjo and i needed assistant on installing adobe reader on my ios

am trying to upload a form 5257 on my ios but i was getting a message that i should installed an adobe reader which i did but am still unable to upload the form

Are you referring to the 5257 form distributed by the Government of Canada? If so, this PDF document is a special type of form called a "dynamic XFA form".
Currently, Adobe Reader mobile products (Reader for iOS, Android, Windows Phone) do not support static or dynamic XFA forms that are created with Adobe LiveCycle Designer.
The message "Please wait..." is displayed when a dynamic content is not supported by a PDF viewer.
Please use the desktop version of Adobe Reader on a Windows or Mac computer to fill out XFA forms.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.

I am trying to download Adobe Reader on my new Windows 8 computer. I have the app, but I need the program to work on the desktop of the system, so that pdfs and word documents can be open side-to-side. Dell has been unhelpful in solving this problem. Can you tell me how to fix this problem?
