Adober Reader 8.1.2 will not open new page links to .pdf file
Since upgrading to version 8, I cannot open a pdf file (from IE) if it opens in a new window. It opens local files, and links on pages that go directly to the pdf file, but not if the link opens the file in a new window. This means that I cannot open such things as my VISA statement, etc. What now?
I have Windows XP on a Dell desktop. If it makes any difference, I also have Adobe Pagemaker 7.0 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 loaded on this computer.
I really need this to work.
Thanks.
Nothing showed in the Event Viewer log. However, just to be thorough:
1. I uninstalled reader 6.0.1 and rebooted. (all pdf became unassociated)
2. I deleted any acr*.tmp anywhere on my computer.
3. I deleted The 6.0 folder from the application updates path
4. I deleted the 6.0 folder from my install path.
5. I deleted the Adobe folder from my temp directory.
6. I ran CCleaner, cleaned app files and registry and repeated.
7. I rebooted and repeated step 6.
8. I opened Event Viewer, backed up and cleared all events from the log.
9. I installed 8.1.2 (all pdf became associated with Acrobat Reader)
10. Under Event Viewer/Application the event log displays: Product: Adobe Reader 8.1.2 -- Installation operation completed successfully.
11. Under Event Viewer/System the event log displays: The Windows Installer service entered the stopped state.
12. I tried to launch: the shortcut, a pdf and the exe file.
13. There are no additional events added to any level of the event log.
14. There is no indication of activity from Reader in the Task Manager: Applications or Processes. It never appears in either.
As a final note, I know the 8.1.2 install file is not corrupted because I copied it to another computer where it installed and runs just fine.

Message was edited by: broken twigYou can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else. -
Adobe Reader 11.0.9 will not open PDF's from network shares
Having an issue on computers running 11.0.8 that auto update to 11.0.9. Opening a PDF from a network share that previously worked will no longer, giving the following error: "There was an error opening this document. The network path was not found". I tried backing off to 11.0.8 again, as that's what get.adobe.com/reader is serving up, but it pops it right back to .9 after a few minutes as auto-updates are on.
Network path was put in the Security (Advanced) section, even turned Protected Mode off.
Ideas? Can you please send process monitor logs:
To take process monitor log follow the below steps:
1) Download process monitor from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
2) Launch process monitor.
3) Now try to open the PDF file at network share. It will not open with the network error so just cancel the error dialog.
4) Save process monitor logs as a .pml file.
5) Send it to me.
Try above workflows with Protected Mode checkbox checked.
Thanks,

Adobe Reader 10.1.1 will not open .pdfs
Adobe was working just fine when I was using it earlier this morning until I logged off to let another employee briefly use my computer. Since then I keep receiving an error message that says "Adobe Reader has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I uninstalled and then re-installed Adobe but I still receive the same error message. How can I fix this problem?
Adobe has a recent(2012-01-09)KB article http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86063.html entitled "Protected Mode troubleshooting". There is a similar article (2011-09-12) http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/901/cpsid_90161.html entitled Protected View troubleshooting.
I have had issues with Adobe Reader X hanging (not responding) due to a conflict between an antivirus program and the Adobe Reader X Protected Mode/Protected Viewer sandbox features.
khwajakhurram replied to my query suggesting unchecking the default Adobe Reader X Preferences >3D & Multimedia> "Enable hardware rendering for legacy video cards" setting and this solves the issues!
What is surprising is that Adobe Reader X's 3D & Multimedia settings report that the alternative preferred renderer modes are either software or DirectX9 .....on a Vista machine with DirectX11.
The video card on this machine is definitely not legacy but a recent quality Nvidia produced card. That is also the case on the other machines with the issue I have reported.
I went a step further and I have found that performance is vastly improved by changing from the default preferred renderer mode of DirectX9 to the alternative Software setting.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86063.html mentions that "certain configurations of anti-virus software that have not yet white-listed AcroRd32.exe" are "Unsupported configurations for Reader running in Protected Mode". Therefore I have also excluded AcroRd32.exe from virus scanning.
I am now able to use both Adobe Reader X's Protected Mode and Advanced Security without issue and performance is vastly improved. I am certain that your issues will also be solved.
notafan777, on another thread, suggested that theses problems are due to a legacy of sloppy code and this certainly seems to be the case here with these very odd default settings influencing performance to such an extent. -

Reader 10.1.0 will not open PDF files
Hi
Reader 10.1.0 will not open PDF files in windows 7 64 bit using IE9
However it open using firefox?
Is it my settings ?
Is this version not compatible with IE9 ???
Please advise
Thanks
PerryI am able to open PDF in IE9 on win 7 64 bit machine using Reader 10.1
Additionally,as per system requirements mentioned in Reader 10.1 download page (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5138),Reader 10.1 is compatible with IE9.
What error message do you encounter when you try to open PDF in IE9? -
Adobe reader 10.1.2 could not open the file '/C/WINDOWS'
since adobe reader 10.1.2 urls don't work in pdf files to folders.
C:\WINDOWS\xy.xls
ok
C:\WINDOWS
not ok > adobe reader 10.1.2 could not open the file '/C/WINDOWS'
C:\WINDOWS
ok > with deactivated protected mode
no problems with 9.5.0 or 10.1.1 with activated protected mode
is that known? any other workaround?
thanksHi,
I also have Reader 10.1.2 installed on my machine and I also cannot open a link in the PDF, that will eventually call an exe file. I don't think that there would be different behaviour on your machine. So, I think, now this is the expected behaviour Reader 10.1.2 onwards. -

Adobe Reader 8.1.2 does not open
I just installed Adobe Reader version 8.1.2. When I click on a PDF file or on the program icon, nothing happens. I'm running Windows XP.
I believe that I found a fix for this by going into 'My Computer'>Tools>Folder Options>File Types, where I changed the 'destination' file used to open PDF files from the older Adobe that was listed to the most recently installed version (8.1.2) (which is AcroRd32.exe, not simply AcroRd.exe). This change now shows up when I'm opening a downloaded PDF file; the automatic program to do so is now indicated as the newly installed Adobe 8.1.2 (i.e. AcroRd32.exe). My other PDF files are now opening automatically as well.

Pages 3.0.3 will not open in Pages 5.5.2
I just purchased a new iMac and Pages documents (version 3.0.3) will not open in Pages 5.5.2 in my new iMac.
Is there a way to open them? I am using OS X 10.10.2. TIAPages v5 dropped support for Pages '08, and .RTF documents. If you are running Pages '08 v3.0.3 on Yosemite, just export the documents to Word .doc, and these will open in Pages v5.5.2. I have found that a Pages '08, or '09 document uploaded to the zamzar site can also be converted to Word .doc/docx for free. They will send you an email in a few moments of the conversion with a pointer to the Word document to download.
Note. You do not need to sign up on the Zamzar site to upload, convert, and download the converted document. Process just took me under 2 minutes. They will store documents for 1 day. -
Safari will not open bookmark pages (nor will it post question!)9th time
Ok. I interrupted someone elses thread - partly I think because of the problem I am having it self in that it was - grab the page while you can! Any page.. and type like mad quick before it changes it's mind.
The problem - I recently got wire free netgear. Safari was working fine. In fact better than on my previous lap which would quite often tell me I was using an "unsupported browser".
Over the last few days Safari often refuses to open bookmarks and also sometimes headings on a web page e.g. after getting to the Apple page "Support" "Discussion".
So to get the pages I want I go to Google(if it decides to open my bookmark google) and try and re find bookmarks that it was opening perfectly well previously.
It tells me it cannot open the page as I am not connected to the internet. The internet connect is showing me that I am connected and when I go through diagnosis it often tells me that the internet connection seems to be working ok. But safari still will not open the page and is teling me I am not connected and so I go around in circles - and eventual open Opera in desperation which seems to work fine.
Having said all that Opera then started doing the same. I have contacted my broadband and they say that some people are experiencing problems with their emails at the moment. So I'm not sure now whether it is a bug in my browsers or a server problem or something else. It doesn't seem SO bad today but it is still a problem. Any ideas for a solution very grateful.Gawd, how have you managed not to update it?! The current version is Version 3.1.2 (4525.22)!
Small wonder it won't work with 10.4.11.
Have you ever used Software Updater to check whether there are any updates available for your Mac?
I would recommend that you download the latest version from here:
http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
But please make sure that you download the version for Tiger and not for Leopard.
BUT before you do so, and before you install it, please go through the following routine:
Repairing permissions is an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two.
Background information here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751
and here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672
If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

If all is OK, install the new Safari, and REBOOT, then repair permissions again. -
I installed safari 8.0.1 and now my mac is really really slow and will not open some pages. Can I uninstall?
Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
Stop plug-ins to save power
Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Photos, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference? -
Since updating last time Firefox will not open new tabs unless I right click on a link. It won't open them via file or the tab at the top of the brwoser or usinf ctrl + t. Anyone know how to fix this?
I can press ctrl for a new tab but otherwise a new tab does not open. I actually need help regarding this new Synch which apparently will be in Firefox automatically in an upcoming version so I am asking how that will synch with people who use LastPass-of course because I use this very successfully and really am not eager to change the set up that I have in place at this time.
I have read through endless FAQ trying to find anyone else who has this question or concern but have found nothing. Can you please tell me how that service will get along with LastPass which does basically the same thing as Synch-it is probably spelled wrong as it looks wrong to me but if I click back to where this issue began, I will lose all of this question so please respond for the upcoming service synch.
