• APEX Essentials - Looking for early adopters

I'm currently developing a new open source Oracle APEX development tool and I'm looking for early adopters/beta testers.
Details can be found at http://essentials.oracleapex.info/
Feel free to use this thread to give feedback, share ideas, enhancements, bugs, ...
Thanks

Peter,
you are correct with the processing3.gif. I added the separate file, because I thought it's not part of the APEX distribution. Fixed that.
About your "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges messages":
In "Supporting Objects\Prerequisites" has this kind of privileges are checked.
I tested that yesterday and it's showing up correctly when installing on 3.0 and 3.1 when a privilege is missing. Any idea what could be wrong? What privilege (exact statement) have you granted to your user.
Thanks

• Apple HAVE rewarded their early adopters in the past

I must admit that my first thoughts on reading the posts of users complaining about the price drop was along the lines that everyone knew that the price would come down eventually so what's all the fuss about.
Then I remembered my experience as an early adopter of Apple's Aperture photo software which initially cost $499 with no opportunity to download a trial version. When Apple upgraded Aperture to v.1.1 a few months later they dropped the price to $299 AND they offered a $200 Apple Store coupon to people who had paid full price for the first version.
So, Apple does have a history of "making it right" for early adopters. Let's hope that they are listening to these complaints and will come through in the end.

You have to let Apple know. Apple doesn't use these forums. Voicing yourself with a Retail Manager, and using the feedback form are the best avenues for communicating with Apple.

In the event that Apple is unresponsive, media outlets are an alternative:

• Oracle 8 Early Adopters SQL*Net2 Longs

Hi,
I have created a Forms4.5(32bit) application under win95 to my
Oracle 8.0.5 on Debian Linux(early adopters release) using
SQL*Net 2. When trying to insert a record containing a LONG the
connection is dropped and 'eof on communications channel' is
reported. This happens every time a LONG is inserted.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Regards, Ben.

Could someone please post or send the upgrade documentation you have followed?.
Or please, send me an URL to the upgrade documentation.
It appears that the upgrade documentation might not be complete and/or correct.
The problem:_
Your upgrade environment has a psio_dir.dll from the previous/old PT850/PT851 install.
To validate this check out the size and the date stamp of the file. It will show the year as 2009 and the size as 48KB.
THE FIX:_
Bring down your Application Server. Remove all the cache and log files.
Permanetntly REMOVE (not rename) the psio_dir.ll from *$PS_HOME/\bin\server\winx86\psio_dir.dll* from your PeopleSoft Application Server environment.
Bring up your Application Server.
If you are a developer using/doing work using Application Designer, permanently remove <PS_HOME>\bin\client\winx86\psio_dir.dll from your Application Designer machine.
This should fix your problem.
thanks,

• Any Chance for Rebate for Early adopters?

I have been a bit upset with RIM, just a "bit", with the fact that early adopters like myself who went and bought the Playbook on day #1 are not getting any benefits. We stuck with Playbook even when email, etc were not fully available and paid full price. Now I see rebates and price reductions. Sure early buyers pay, but we also are the ones who carry the flag of RIM. Is there any perks or discounts for us?

• Apple turns traitor to loyal followers and early adopters

I was, for a very long time, loyal to the PC side of the world and only recently adopted Apple products for a variety of reasons. Today, I would say that I am a hardcore apple fan for their high quality standards throughout the product line and their usual willingness to treat their early adopters with a level of respect not found in other large technology manufacturers. It is these very people that have carried the torch for apple and helped bring to life the very products that are now turning Apple into a veritable giant in technology and media. You have seen this with the Ipod/Itunes and with the new Laptops and we definitely saw it with the I phone. Like true loyalists, the hardcore early adopters flocked to the stores to get the Iphone and turned it into the "must have" item it has become. NEVER did the loyal customers suspect that they were being gouged by the very company they helped get through the tough time times. And I do mean gouged. a 30% drop in price in about 45 days is unheard of for a successful product. Have you ever seen BOSE do it on their wildly successful headphones? This is a massive stab in the back to Apples best customers. I personally have spent 10s of thousands on their products, but wont buy even another 99cent song from AppleStore until they fix this problem
Just like with Aperture, Apple needs to provide a $200 credit toward apple store purchase to all 8gb purchasers and a 8 gb upgrade for all 4gb purchasers. Its that simple. Until then I hope the stock crumbles and people think twice about buying any apple product.
Oh and BTW apparently cingular is being much more liberal with their policy refunding money and upgrading phones from 4 to 8 gb. Imagine that, being outclassed by a phone company.
Apple better do something fast in order to regain a little respect.

Actually, a 30% price drop in 45 - 60 days is very common in the CELL PHONE industry.

• New-imac-early-adopters-boot-camp

Just got this from a google alert.
Anyone knows if paralels is also not comparable with the new imacs?
http://bgr.com/2012/12/19/new-imac-early-adopters-boot-camp-259318/

It is because of the 3TB drive. Since BC needs to create a FAT volume for Windows to install to it can't do that on that large a drive, 2TB limit.
There was a post the other day how to get around this and use BC to install Windows. It has to do with Partitioning the drive to a smaller size from a Boot disc/USB thumb.

• Thank God for the warranty...early adopters beware!

My line out made a screaching noise (at about 120db) one morning for no reason. When I rebooted I had a constant clicking noise coming from it in both OS X and Windows, so I knew the main board was probably hosed.
Took it to the Apple Store, and sure enough they had to replace the main logic board. Because I ordered my Mac Pro when they first came out, they had to replace 1) the entire case! 2)the main board 3)the memory enclosure.
Apparently they have made revisions and the new logic boards won't fit in the original cases. If this wasn't under warranty, it would have cost me $1,166.
I think the only original equipment after the repair are my 3 hard drives, my video card, processor and memory.
Apple was great, and my computer is working good as new....I just thought I would let the early adopters know what to expect.

Did you use the original Manufacture warranty or did you have the Apple Care service plan?

• Yes... There are issues with the new iMac, early adopters baby!

Hi, I am a new iMac owner.
Being a network engineer and having worked for the "devil" himself, let me tell you... I would rather be dealing with the tiny glitches with the new iMac than owning a Dell, Toshiba, HP but most importantly running Vista!
This is a new machine with new HW and drivers. I enjoy trying the latest and the greatest. I realize there will be hurdles to overcome with any new product, but come one people! Let's stop whining, and help everyone out here. We are all here to provide constructive feedback to Apple while helping everyone out.
Yes there Display issues.
Yes there are Keyboard issues.
Yes there are WoW issue and UT as well.
Target disk issues.. Yes
Lock ups.. sure!
My suggestion... If you think you are better off with a PC and Vista, well go to it mate!
Sorry for the ramble, but I just got tired of all the whiners thinking that buying an iMac was their solution to never having issues by leaving the PC world, or should I say MSWorld... LOL

I think few, if any people claimed they were going to ditch their new iMac for a PC. I like Macs, but I don't love them like I used to.
Half the reason people buy them, is because they think they can rely on Macs more. They are supposed to be stable, fuss free and easy to use. And they still are for the most part.
But these new iMacs make a complete mockery of that because they don't represent very well what Apple stands for. "If" I bought a PC I would honestly expect some problems here & there. Its just part and parcel of the PC package. And although I don't expect Macs to be 100% perfect 100% of the time, I certainly expect better than this diabolical shambles that is the new iMac.
Just as an example.. My 4 year old G4 powerbook.. Not 100% problem free, granted. But mighty close. However, it has not crashed once the entire time I have had it. My new iMac however, crashed 4 times yesterday alone, and it didn't even get used as much as my old powerbook.
Maybe now you get the picture a little better?
Just my 2 kernel panics worth...

• No digital voice for Fios early adopters in PA

Still do not understand why I cannot get this service when it is available to new customers in my area. I was the first to switch to Fios in early 2007. I have three phone lines and two separate bills. Call Assist is limited and not working on the single line I installed it on. I am forced to switch from Verizon Iobi which is being discontined as a paid program feature.  My calls to support and request for superisors are going unanswered. There was a complete Service outage all day last Saturday. I was hoping this first time event meant they were upgrading the service for  current users. Otherwise I am a raving FIOS fan. This is really souring my experience.

Hello Gapa,
Fios Digital Voice migrations of existing accounts were placed on hold and the ability removed from systems which is why you were not getting the result you were looking for.  There is no escalation that will result in modification of the process at this time.  However this is not permanent and the process has already been engaged for 2 states.  Once PA goes live you will be notified of the option and ability to migrate at that time.
Thank you

• Early adopters release ready for download !

Ronald.
http://ronr.nl/unix-dba

Bingo. XCode 1.2 with the new download did the trick, mostly. I had to edit the root.sh script during the stock database creation to correct the locations of the following executables:
/usr/bin/chgrp
/bin/mkdir
/usr/bin/uname
/bin/cp
/bin/ln
The locations of some of these are used and/or defined more than once in root.sh. I also had to update $ORACLE_HOME/bin/crsctl to fix the 'uname' reference. The root.sh script still fails at the end with the following:
Now product-specific root actions will be performed.
Successfully accumulated necessary OCR keys.
Creating OCR keys for user 'root', privgrp 'wheel'..
OCR create keys failed, OCR error 26.
Failed to initialize Oracle Cluster Registry for cluster
Not sure why this is failing, but I'm not running a cluster. I'm sure you'd need to be running on Xservers for that...
Anyway, the database is up and running; testing continues...

• Thanks for all you early adopters-seriously

Sincere thanks for all of you who jumped in and started using it. I am sure that it is a better computer because of all the feedback that the company has received. I have been reading the posts and am looking forward to getting the next edition/revision.
As one poster wrote, the advantage you have over me is that you have the computer to use now, and I am waiting. It will be a much used and appreciated tool when I get one. The funds are not available for me to get one yet but am looking at the beginning of the year.
The only ones I have seen are in stores. I wish I knew how loud the fans get when they come on as I have not heard them.
Some have described them as really loud. Any input here?
It looks like most of the main issues that I have read about have been resolved. The latest seems to be the dependability of the SuperDrive, but they may just be that percentage of products that are problematic out of the box.
I get the impression that these things are selling like hot cakes, so the numbers out there vs. the posts are probably staggering.
Thanks again, and I hope everyone gets their computer working the way they expect it to.

Hey, you're welcome! Hahaha
Well I've had mine for over 3 months now and I've zero problems with it. To answer some of your questions:
- the fans do not get horrendously loud as some people have stated. The only time I've heard them on is when I'm playing games (call of duty 2, halo, tiger woods), encoding a dvd, watching large videos on iTunes; so pretty much cpu intensive tasks. They don't come on with usual surfing, chatting, emailing, word processing.
- yeah, i've read the posts about the superdrives too. But I haven't had any problems with mine. I've ripped about 10-15 music cd's from my collection and burned many dvd's with it without a problem.
Enjoy your macbook when you get it!

• PT 8.52 - Early adopters? What has been your experience with it in Prod?

After our HR upgrade to HR 9.1 and PT 8.51 in October, 2011, there is desire to turn around and do a Tools only upgrade to PT 8.52 this spring for various reasons (iPad tablet certification, etc). I remember a 2010 OpenWorld presentation where Oracle recommended that the "sweet spot" for go-live of a new Tools version was about 12-13 months after GA. I have found that advice to be sound in the real world as well.
What is the general vibe of PT 8.52 in Production? What have been your experiences with 8.52? If you are in Production, are you either HR, FSCM or CRM?
Thanks,
Scott

• Solaris 11 - Early Adopters - Text Install - Add Gnome/Windowing

I downloaded the S11-EA Text Install .ISO and installed it in a VBox image. Now when it boots, it boots into a text-login mode. I've Googled but can't seem to find out how to add windowing to the image. Maybe I should have loaded from the Live DVD instead...

You can set up your local repository from the repository ISO images provided, and then an install from the repository:
pkg install solaris-desktop

• Early Adopters Sound Off

I have bought 2 iPhones..one for myself and one for my fiance..I didnt buy it to be cool or to say I had it and you didnt..I bought it because we needed new phones and its a great piece of technology....However, Steve Jobs smug attitude about this just stinks too me... I will never Buy another Apple product again...I urge you all to do the same thing...Also, if your dumb enough now to buy an ipod touch at full price (or any new apple product) then I wont feel any pain for you...Steve says its "technology"...well steve, its not outdated or cheaper technology it was just your actual price point all along and you screwed over the people that made you hundreds of millions...now, the people who were ragging the iphone for being absolete are going to get one for $200.00 bucks cheaper....But, you dont care about us...If you did you would throw us all a free bone...no one is dumb enough to think they will get $200.00 bucks back...but, you could extend our Applecare plan a an extra year or give us Itunes gift cards...but your too much of a greedy person to do that...so, now you have officialy ****** off your loyal base...good show

It is still a great piece of technology...whats not great is dropping the price 33% after 2 months...And yes, we did need new phones and I havent had a new cell phone in at least 4 years and the iPhone seemed to be the one...maybe I had my eyes into the stars a bit...And yes it is a great phone...in fact, with everything it does I cant believe it can actually make calls...point being, some sort of concession would be nice but its not expected...So, its just a bummer of a day for us...my fiance could care less, I shelled out the money for it...So, I got highjacked on 2 phones!!!!! Ill continue to enjoy my iphone for at least 2 or 3 years but you can bet my next phone wont have an i in front of it or an Apple on it...however, I must also voice dissapointment as I am one of the people with the white grid lines...So, before I was mad because everyone paid the same price and I felt my screen was inferior (actually is not as bright as my fiances and not as sharp) but now I got an inferior device for $200.00 bucks more...double shaft
