Adoption of iPads in a UK secondary school ?

Is there anybody out there who has a case study that supports the adoption and delpoyment of iPads in a UK School ?
Our ICT chaps, all Windows experts, would like to see case study that supports the deployment of tablets and or ipads in a secondary school as opposed to netbooks and laptops, before they will consider that possibility of a trial of these devices with students?
To prevent me re-inventing the wheel , I'm asking the question, has anybody yet done this successfully and how did you do it ?

Plenty of viewings but no replies.
The conclusion I draw from this that many want to know how to do it but nobody has yet successfully deployed iPads in a UK school.
So how did the US schools manage it ? And if Apple want a decent level of uptake in UK schools, they had better go out to education establishments and offer a bit of guidance on how to do it.
Still waiting........

  • Any secondary schools in Central London (UK) using iPads?

I am trying to find a school in London UK that have already or have plans to use iPads in Secondary School on a larger scale.
I am planning a field trip for educators from Denmark who would like to know more about teaching and iPads.

    Hi,
From what you report I am not sure why it is not working.
With an iPhone you could get issues in Different countries depending on your roaming contract and whether you get get given temporary access to the Local network.
However with the Apple ID  you should be able to get it anywhere.
With Mac OS X10.82 and above the Mac version though uses the Serial number of the computer to "prove" it is you.
Although your IP may change if a laptop or even change because it is dynamic from the ISP the serial number will not change.
I also know that with the AIM service some people have had issues when using Apple IDs ending in @mac.com in particular when they have been used abroad.
    I see two possibles.
Add an Alternative email to the iPod Touch
Or try removing the Apple ID then putting the device in Airplane Mode for a few minutes then add back the Apple ID (I.e. re-register the Apple ID from your current location)

  • IPad 2 in Vic govt secondary schools??

I am using my iPad 2 in Vic Govt school connecting to edupass.  Some of the internet access is limited - like can't connect to youtube even though I can in my school PC etc...
Also gmail doesn't work too well...

Is it working well at other hotspots and at home?

What is your grade level? Most (many?) schools at the secondary and college/university level have wifi, so if using it at school you would be set there and if you have wi-fi at home, you should be all set, there, too. Having cellular can be expensive for what you get in terms of space, and depending on where you live, you might want to do some research to see what your best options are.
    That said...
I had questions as soon as I read your post. Are all of your books available for ipad? Do you have a computer, because you'll need one, etc.(I know you're using one now...)  If you do, then the ipad could work for you. My younger son is starting his junior year in college and he's getting an ipad for convenience. But he has an imac in his dorm room, so he'll be set. He knows that's more important for productivity than an ipad, but loves the idea that he can bring it to class for notes, put them on his imac for editing in microsoft office and excel, upload files he needs from classes, etc.
I opened a thread to the right on this page to see if there was information re these questions, and there are. There are also many threads where people have your same questions, and many have very helpful answers. The only thing is it might be time consuming. You might have to go way back to read them. There are so many questions asked 24/7 that a new question on this site might be ten pages back in a matter of hours. I don't do it often, but I check them out and and I've gotten some very helpful info. Take notes and perhaps what you learn can help you make your decision.
One thing I would skip as an option would be a netbook. They crawl... class would be half over before you'd get to start your note taking, and they are not powerful at all and have limited space even if you max it out with a larger hard drive. We bought two for my sons to take notes in college and don't use them anymore.
If you let us know more about your school level, specific situation, and why you want 4g, hopefully people can possibly help you better. All the best as you make your decision!

  • ITunes U course published but I can't see my school in the Primary and Secondary Schools list

I don't know how to contact the responsable of the iTunes U administration to send an email and change the name of my school.
I want to change  Villaviciosa De Odón - Colegio Pax-Casvi into "Eurocolegio Casvi".  Anyway, even my organization has been approved for courses publishing, I can't find the name of my school at the list of iTunes U "Primary and Secondary" schools.
If I go to https://itunesu.itunes.apple.com/audit/633264363, the course is in the iTunes U.

you might want to check on this possibility:
No music shows up in iTunes after upgrading

  • When my iPad es connect to my school's wifi the itunes sotre and the appstore won't open

When I try to use almost anything that requires wifi in my iPad when connect to my school's wifi it says that the certificate or something is not trusted, I need help :/

But I don't think that's the problem because in my iPod touch it works, and my android device also work well, it is something in my iPad that doesn't let the iTunes Store works.

  • Why hasn't apple created its own USB or USB adapter for their products.? Since an iPhone or iPad make traveling and doing school work or on the job work, why not create a USB to make transferring information easier too.?

In some folks' version of the world, you have plenty of ways. YOu have the aforementioned services, you have iCloud, all you need is an internet connection and you're good to go. And that works perfectly...if you always have the internet.
If you want more non-internet dependant ways, then the best way to let Apple know is to send them feedback. They don't monitor or respond to this forum (Beyond removing rule breaking posts) but they do at least log feedback. However, the lack of a file manager will always be an obstacle. There are some apps out there that have at least a pseudo file manager - as in the ability to move documents into multiple other apps. I have Readdle Docs which I can use to download and move things around with, but again, back to the internet or wireless.

  • I'm a secondary school student, should I buy iPhone 5C or iPhone 5S? What is the differences?

I'm a secondary school student, should I buy iPhone 5C or iPhone 5S? What is the differences?

The 5c is essentially a repackaged iPhone 5.
The 5s is the latest hardware and includes a 64 bit A7 SOC. It's more expensive.
    Compare the two here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/

  • Which is better iPad or Mac for high school students?

I just took SHSAT and my mother promise me that I will get one that I wish if I get in. I did not want to waste that wish and use it on others wastable stuff. So I was thinking that Apple device would make great studying for me in High School. I have iMac but Macbook air is portable and ipad is portable. Both of them are really good. I don't know what to choose. If you can't decide as well, please suggest what should I get. And Please do not tell me I won't go in to spealized high school because I already have a lot of stress.

MacBook Air is the best of both worlds.
The instant on and fast response of an iPad, but has the full size keyboard, full OS X and expandablity of a Mac computer.
The MacBook Air is almost as light as an iPad, but is much more flexible.

The iTunes icon and cable indicates that it's gone into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you haven't got the current version of iTunes installed in your computer then download and install it (http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/) , and you should then be able to reset your iPad and restore/resync your content to it.
If you computer still doesn't recognise your iPad then try the troubleshooting on these pages :

  • Ipad set up for a school

OK need some advise on seting up new ipad's for my son's school. Issue is how or what itunes do u use to activate the ipad's. I belive you need a credit card to open an itunes acc. school's dont hve that.

You sign out of your ID in Settings>iTunes and App Stores>Apple ID, then sign onto the school ID in order to use it. You know your situation better than I do, but when you switch ID's on the iPad and go back and forth in order to download purchases, you run the risk of locking yourself out of one of the ID's for 90 days.
    Read this about associated devices.

  • IPad Can't Connect to School Network Post-iOS 4.2.1

I can't connect to wifi network on campus now that I've updated my iPad to iOS 4.2.1. The odd time when I can connect, the Internet takes forever to load a page & often it just times out making my wifi only iPad useless at school (the reason I bought the thing). Meanwhile my iPhone on 4.2.1 works on the school wifi with no problems. My iPad works on every other wireless network I've tried except for the campus one. I've even tried resetting my network settings & resetting my iPad but nothing works.
    HELP!

Sorry I don't have a solution, but you should follow this link:

  • Best ipad 2 carrying case for school

Hi I need a ipad carrying bag fir school that will allow me to put my ipad in keyboard and the charger what is a good bag for that I was checking out the waterfieid one I like that but it is too pricey for me please help

Shop for about any netbook bag. 'good' is relative and means different things to different people. But I've found that targus and case logic have good quality and are a bit more affordable than the bigger names.

  • Ipad vs. macbook for High Schooler

Have a kid in high school who wanted to buy a macbook and saved long and hard to get one, but then decided to get a pad since he can use it for documents. He also got a Touch for Christmas. I thought this was an ok decision because he wanted to save the difference for future expenses, and the rep at apple supported this. I would really appreciate informed feedback if this was a totally ridiculous thing for him to do (we can return it and get the book)if it's really a neccessity but after reviewing all of the tutorials on ipad, I think it will serve his needs. Help?

If he has access to another computer at home to which he can sync his iPad and do the real heavy work, and you, after educating yourself, think it will work, I'd say you're fine. It's lighter and has better battery life than a MacBook. I would never recommend it to someone who doesn't have another computer but as a portable adjunct, it's fantastic.
