Adpatch only running with 1 worker

We are running our R12.1 upgrade patch to upgrade from 11.5.9 to 12.1.3
During the first 10 minutes the patch is running fine with all 12 workers running. At some point and it appears to be about the same time the jobs start running only on one worker. I have tried to restart all the workers via adctrl with no change. I see a status of Wait and a Control Code of Run from adctrl. The jobs are all just singled treaded.
This is not the first time we have run thru this patch. For some reason we can't get this to work. We have bounced the DB and restarted the server with to change.
We are running Linux 64-bit with 11.2.0.3 DB
Any thoughts?

This is normal and it should not be an issue as long as the running worker is not in a hung state.

My external 27" AOC display only runs with 1080p, even though my 27" iMac is capable of 2560x1440 via the attached mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. How can I get 2560x1440?
When I run recovery mode, then I get the full 2560x1440 pixels. But when I boot back to 10.9.2, then I can only choose a maximum of 1080p.

After some hours I found a solution...
But let me vent a little bit first: My MacBook Air, which I have not yet upgraded to Mavericks, is able to drive the AOC display through DisplayPort at full resolution without a problem.
Even an older lenovo Notebook with Windows 7 immediatelly used the intended resolution when hooking up the 27" screen. Windows 7 outplaying Mavericks. Oh boy...
So it seems, that Mavericks introduced some "improvement" that limitd "unknown" displays to 1080p...
By the way: Clearing PRAM didn't resolve my issue. Neither did holding down the Option key when klicking in the "Scaled" button in the screen resolution area of the system preferences for my screen.
Anyway: I found out that I can use the plist file for a DELL 27" screen, which google found for me, copy this to /System/Library/Displays/Overrides and then rename the folder and file to match the ID I got back from ioreg.
Obviously one has to be careful when mixing hardware data in this way. But since a modern screen will simply refuse to be driven with a signal that is out of spec, and since there are not too many different 27" pannels with 2560x1440 out there these days, this felt like a pretty safe thing to do... Your mileage may vary though!
Unfortunately I don't have a plist editor installed. Thus I can only look at the XML contained in the plist file. With the plist editor from Mac (-> dev tools) it should be possible to edit available resolutions directly (in hex).

Hello Everyone,
I have a new 2TB Time Capsule running with a MacBook Air. I want to use the TC to access data (Aperture library, iTunes library, other Files) and to backup my MacBook Air via Time Machine. I set it up, integrated the TC in my Network (FritzBox) by choosing "extend existing network" and it works. BUT only with 1.1Mbit/second while writing or reading Data to/from it. Internet speed is very good, like it was before. While the 1.1Mbit/second seem to be ok with Aperture and iTunes (streaming music and movies) it is still painfully slow and I'm not realy happy with that
I've read that:
The 1.1Mbit problem is pretty common when Time Capsule is integrated and used to extend a network (bridge modus), it also looses all ethernet connectivity then (that woul explain why connecting it by ethernet didn't help during initial setup and data transfer)
Is there a solution besides ditching the Fritzbox and using the TC to build the network? Because basicly I still need the Fritzbox for its DECT features.

You have double hop wireless with this setup..
You should bridge the TC.. that is router bridge not wireless bridge, and plug the TC into the Frizyboy by ethernet.
Then you can setup the TC wireless to reinforce the fritzy..
Same wireless name as SSID.
Same security settings... really should be WPA2 AES or in TC personal.
Same password..
Just different wireless channel.
Then you can use 5ghz on the TC if you are up close and personal.

Class will only run with full package path - why?

I've recently used Ant to package up a jar file with a simple gui application. Though I believe I've done everything right in terms of packaging I find that when I copy jar file to another computer not only do I need to unjar it I also need to use the full package name in order to get it to run. I thought that I should be able to run it by either using: java -jar CheckLogs
or jar -xvf logUtils.jar, and then java CheckLogs.
Instead only this will work:
java net.kenjanuski.utils.CheckLogs
My understanding is that if I put package net.kenjanuski.utils at top of file that I shouldn't have to use the full package name. Am I missing something obvious? By the way Ant did create the proper directory structure if I unpack the jar: net/kenjanuski/utils/...

I'm not going to try to answer the jar question, but as far as package name goes, if your CheckLogs class starts with the statement "package net.kenjanuski.utils;" then the fully qualified name of the class is net.kenjanuski.utils.CheckLogs. The java.exe command uses the fully qualified name of the class. So the only way it will work is "java net.kenjanuski.utils.CheckLogs" just as you found out.
You can run the Jar file if you define the class in a Manifest file. See http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jar/basics/run.html

ITunes 7 will only run with date in application name. Why????

Hi, I upgraded to iTunes 7 and could not get it to run. After the license agreement I would get an error -50 message. Somehow, during some messing around, I noticed that the application name had changed from iTunes to iTunes 06-10-04 I don't know how this cane about but iTunes loaded up with no problems.
Then I took the 06-10-04 out of the name, and again iTunes would not run, the error -50 message appearing. Puting the numbers back into the name solved the issue once more.
Any ideas???

Msi Big Bang Xpower II can only run with 3 memory modules?

Hello there! I've just got my new system up and running. But it cant boot with 4 memory modules when there is a module in slot 7? I have a 4x8gb kit from corsair (CMP32GX3M4X1600C10), and a Msi Big Bang Xpower II..
When i start it, it just shows me the debug code "67" which is "Late Cpu Initialization" according to the "User Guide".. It stays there, for about 15 seconds, then it shuts down, and does the same, over and over..
Atm, i'm running with 3 modules, and there's no problems at all! I've testet ALL memory blocks, in another computer, and they run just fine..
What should i do?

Only runs with "optimized" settings

I have a 1GB kit of dual channel Mushkin Blue PC3200 installed on my K7N2 Delta2-LSR. Everything runs great except for when I attempt to change the memory settings to something other than "Optimized". The computer will then lock up while XP Home Edition is loading. Memtest shows no problems with the memory. I have a Athlon XP 3200+ and an Antec SL400 power supply. Right now the memory is set up in a standard configuration and NOT in dual channel. CPU voltage is set to 1.65v and the memory is set to 2.6v. Other than this small snafu the system runs great. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

ITunes Only Runs with Anti Virus disabled

I had the same problem a lot of people are having when upgrading to the latest iTunes.
I have reinstalled QT and iTunes separately and have finally gotten it to run. My problem now is that iTunes only opens if I have Norton Internet Security disabled. When Norton is enabled, iTunes doesn't open at all - no error message - but it runs because I get a message from Norton to designate the type of access I want to give to iTunes. I choose "permit all" but it doesn't open. Itunes appears to continue running because I have to force the computer shut each time because it is unable to end the program. Also, sometimes I get an end program error "SMAX4PNP" - the pc also cannot end the program and I have to force it shut.
But when I log into iTunes with Norton disabled, everything works smoothly.
When I go into the personal firewall for Norton, I am unable to find iTunes as an option to "permit all".
Also, when I go to the task bar to end running processes, I try to end itunes.exe but it does not end it.
Can you help? I have combed through the discussion pages for an hour and a half now but cannot find the specific fix to my problem.

I followed your steps. The uninstall and install went fine but I am still unable to open iTunes with NIS on. I believe I did something wrong.
After scanning, I couldn't find the programs you mention in the program scan box (or in the personal firewall configure box): iTunesHelper.exe, iTunes.exe and the QuickTimeInstaller.exe. All I saw in the scna box was Apple iTunes and Apple Quicktime.
You also said to leave all programs on the list - did you mean leave them as they appeared with the "Internet Access" field on Automatic?
Also, once scanning is complete, I couldn't find an "accept" or "ok" button and the "next" button was never enabled, even after tinkering with the programs....should I just close the window?

Ipod Mini only runs with power adapter

Like the title says, I cannot figure this problem out..
The battery has been replaced and is brand new. Yet the ipod mini 2nd gen will only play songs and turn on when its connected to a permanent power source. For ex, the wall charger or the car. If it is disconected, it will turn off and there is no way to turn it back on unless its plugged back in.

Try to reset it.
Press and hold the MENU and CENTER buttons - at the same time - until you see the Apple logo. This should take about 6 seconds. Also, you want to do this procedure while your iPod is connected to your computer. Ipods are supposed to work with USB port cable and AC Adapters, not only car chargers.
If this doesn't work, then try to update it using iPod Updater software. Open iPod Update, plug in your iPod to your computer and wait until the software recognizes it. Once it does, you should be able to click on the "Update" button. If you can't, click "Restore"

MBP only runs with battery UNinstalled?

So I woke my computer from its sleep state this morning, and it instantly shut down. When I pressed the power button, the CD drive began to spin up, as did the fans, etc., but less than 2 seconds after pushing the power button, it just stops booting up and shuts down again. I tried this about 4 times with the same result. Then I removed the battery, and the computer booted up just fine. I then tried to install the battery while the computer was running, and as soon as I clicked it into place, it instantly shut down again. And just so it's clear, the power adapter was plugged into the computer this whole time, even when I tried to fire it up with the battery installed.
I'm very confused with this problem, and any help I can get would be greatly appreciated!

I just tried installing the "battery update 1.3" linked to from that page, but it said my computer didn't need it. (Already installed at one point?)
Any other suggestions?

All my Pro Apps only run with Rosetta

All pro apps wont run in my Intel Mac unless I change "open using Rosseta¨in the info panels. I have FCP version 5.1.2/DVD Studio Pro 4.1.0

When I try to open the apps, it only atempts to load, only one jump in the Dock.I have tried cleaning old apps and any posible settings I know, reinstaling; verify and repair permissions and nothing.
I don't find a crash log for Final Cut, but I get a this for DVD studo Pro, Live Type, and Soundtrack. Expet or the apps name , they all show the same error.

Itunes 7 only runs with Admin permissions

I have just upgraded itunes to 7.0 on my Win XP professional machine.
If I am logged in as administrator, iTunes runs without problem.
But if I try to start it as normal (power) user, I get the error message
"itunes cannot run because one of its required files are missing. Please reinstall itunes."
Re-installing (that is repairing) itunes as user, does not help.
My previous itunes version was 6.0 and I had no problems.
Any ideas?

mog67, similar things to that can sometimes happen if the other user accounts don't have the right permissions on the QuickTime keys in your Registry.
the stejskal family pioneered the treatment for us:
the trick for me was getting up the nerve to "fiddle" with the registry...the reason why the girls could not get access to iTunes/QT was down to permission...once I got one going I went back in to HKEY-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\apple computer, inc\Quicktime...click to highlight go to edit, permission and added the missing girls to the list of who is allowed...made sure they have full permission..apply, ok and "bobs your uncle" all is now well in stejskal home.

Can somebody explain why Captivate 8 still only runs with the unsafe Java SE-6 instead of Java 8?

On the Oracle site itself the use of Java 6 is unrecommended because of safety conditions. What is Adobe doing on this?

I'm very happy to report that the importation of the 10.1.3.6.8 KM fixed it! Thank you, again, for providing leadership on ODI/EPM. I found the Support KM that said to pull out the 10.1.3.6.8 jar files but not a word about the KM. Perhaps they should more closely read your blog? :)
I was not looking forward to, at all, a installation of 11.1.1.3. You have a good idea of my utter ineptitude wrt installs -- yeah, I get them working, sort of, eventually, but oh the pain. At least it's up in the cloud so I could just spawn a new clean 11.1.2.1 non-ODI environment, but that would be two days of my life consumed.
I may still go with the MaxL approach to load the dimensions -- the more I think about the way ODI does an Essbase data and dim load, the less I'm impressed. I see:
1) A SQL to text file conversion. Depending on the dimension size, there could be a hit on performance. Not really a big deal, but odd for sure.
2) The inability to do a suppress verification when loading multiple dimensions (ironically, you can't do that with SQL dimension rules, but you can with text; ODI extracts SQL to text but then doesn't have a way of joining together the loads like MaxL does.) on a big db.
3) The inability to load to buffers (or kick off loads to buffers in parallel).
Oh well, it's not like ODI can't fire this stuff off a command object tied to MaxL, I'm just sort of surprised it doesn't have that functionality natively. Maybe that's what Oracle figured everyone would do.

Can anyone tell me how to turn on my computer without the fan going on? It now only runs with the fan on.

my mac shut down without warning and then when I turned it back on the fan came on, now the fan will not go off. The computer is fine otherwise.
Can someone please tell me what I can do when I re boot it to have the fan go off. It did this twice before when it was under apple care.Thanks so much!!!

Try doing a SMC reset, please read the instructions carefully. If it does not work the first time do it 2-3x.
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
