Adress book dates to iCal

I would like to have the dates I entered on an Address Book Card to iCal. I know to select "show birthdays" to get birthdays shown on iCal. But, what of anniversaries or other custom dates I need associated with a contact. How can I get all those dates also to automatically be added to iCal.
For example. I have a friend, who is European, where they celebrate a name day. So, for that contact I have a 1) Birthday Entry, 2) an Anniversary Entry, and 3) a Name Day Entry (which is a custom date field I created in my address book).
The only option I can find is for birthdays to be displayed. Is there another way???

When you create the custom date, close the editing aspect. You now see the date on the card. Right or alternate click the date. Select: "Create New iCal Event". It brings up a dialogue box. You have to name it. Then, you select the "repeat" option, and select the "Every Year" option. Then press, Add to iCal. This is manual labor, but It will now be repeated every year. You will also have to select a calendar. You may have to manually, create the calendar. Call it "important dates", or "name celebrations" or what ever you want.
After you set up the repeat option, it will automatically be repeated every year on that date.

  • Address book dates to ical?

Is there any way of importing address book birthdates (for example) into iCal? Does anyone know? This is bugging me now...

Right, I'm going to quote the help viewer help from searching for help on entering birthdays..
    "iCal Help
    Adding events to a calendar
You can add any kind of event to your calendars, including appointments, birthdays, or other activities. You cannot add events to a calendar you've subscribed to. (Subscribed calendars have a curved arrow beside them in the Calendars list.)
1      Click the name of the calendar you want to add an event to.
2      To create a new event in Day or Week view, drag from the start time to the end time for the event, then type a subject for the event. In Month view, double-click the white area on the day you want the new event to appear, then type a subject.
To create an event that lasts all day, create an event of any length and click the Info button in the bottom-right corner of the window. Then select the "All-day event" checkbox in the Info drawer. (All-day events are shown across the top of the day in the main calendar view.) If you want your all-day event to last multiple days (for example, for a vacation), drag a corner of the event across the days in the main calendar view, or enter the different start and end dates in the Info drawer.
You can also create an event that spans multiple days but is not an "all-day" event by dragging across multiple days in the main calendar view. Events that span multiple days appear in the main calendar view (not at the top of the day), and can begin or end at any time during a day.
3      To make any other changes to your event (for example, how often it repeats or whether it has an alarm), click the Info button in the bottom-right corner of the iCal window to open the Info drawer.
In Day or Week view, you can also double-click the bar along the top of the event (where the event's start time appears).
4      If the selected event will take place in a different time zone (for example, if you will be traveling to another location for a meeting), choose iCal > Preferences and make sure the "Turn on time zone support" checkbox is selected. Then choose a time zone for this event from the "time zone" pop-up menu in the Info drawer.
The event appears on your calendar at the adjusted time. Turning on time zone support also allows you to view all the events in the main calendar view in a different time zone than your computer's time zone. For more information, click "Tell me more."
5      To invite someone to the event, click None next to "attendees" (or if you see a name, click the name) and type the email address of each person you want to invite, separated by commas. (For example, [email protected], [email protected].)
Any matching names in your Address Book appear as you type. For more information, click "Tell me more."
6      To see an icon in the top-right corner of the event that indicates the event's status, choose an item from the "status" pop-up menu.
7      To make this a regularly occurring event, choose an item from the "repeat" pop-up menu.
8      To receive an alarm before the event occurs, choose an item from the "alarm" pop-up menu.
To have iCal open an application or file before the event occurs, choose Open File, then choose the item you want to open from the first pop-up menu.
9      To add a URL to this event, click the text next to "url" and type a URL.
You may want to do this if the event has a website associated with it. To type more than one URL, separate each URL using commas. For example, http://www.apple.com, http://www.apple.com/support. You can also drag a URL from your browser's URL address field to the "url" field in iCal.
10      To type any notes about this event, click after the word Notes and then type."

  • Birthday from Adress Book not shown in iCal

Hi, I have checked option "Show Birthday Calendar" in iCal, but birthdays from Adress Book not shown. I found where is problem: Contact's birthdays from local adress book (On My Mac) are shown properly in iCal, but contact's birthdays from my adress book on Exchange 2007 (RU9) are not shown... I think this is a bug to be fixed...

Wish I'd looked here first! Have just spent a couple of hours trying to get birthdays to appear in iCal after completing an upgrade from Exchange 2003 to 2007. Same problem as reported above - they don't appear. I've tried Dates 2 iCal (shareware with good reviews) but it doesn't seem to help.
Copying the Exchange address book to 'on my Mac' doesn't seem to do anything either.
The only workaround I can think of is manually adding recurring events into the Exchange calendar for the relevant birthdays. That's a pain, and kind of flies in the face of the whole "integrates natively with Exchange, something even Microsoft doesn't do" tag. A more accurate tag would seem to be "doesn't work quite as well as iCal under Leopard" (he said, slightly grumpily).
    Anyone have any other ideas?

  • ICal and Adress Book sync brings back deleted stuff

    Hi everyone,
I hope this wasn't posted yet, in any case I couldn't find it, so sorry for any double posts.
I use my iPhone as my primary work device and perform all changes of Calendar and Contact data on it. When I sync it with my desktop Mac (PowerMac G4 that I use as backup device for pretty much everything) all the old contact details and calendar events that I deleted from the iPhone are synced back to it from the desktop Mac. I exclusively sync via iTunes.
So what I want would be a one-way sync from my iPhone to the desktop Mac so iCal and Adress Book there are just as up to date as on the iPhone. Any suggestions?
    Thanks a bunch!

    Thanks, Allan.
I am not sure if I will follow your advice, however. While you're probably right and it should be a true sync, what I was trying to say was that in my case (and apparently Berit's as well) it simply isn't.
Which means that apart from the fact that we will probably have to clean out our adress books and calendars again after a reset and sync. I've done that three times already and believe me, it's a major pain. Plus, there is also a chance it won't work afterwards.
I was actually hoping for there to be some workaround solution like a one-way sync. And I'm not happy with Apple's tendency to prevent such workarounds wherever they can. I understand they want to profit from their awesome products but wherever anything doesn't work they're starting to lose their user friendliness along the way. Which still, to me, is their selling point number one, notwithstanding the really great design.
Honestly, I'm not sure what to do right now.
But thanks again for your time. I'll keep posting what happens.
    Best,
    Martin

  • Signing out, keeping the data of iCal and address book on my mac

I would like to sign out of iCloud - it doesn´t make too much sense for me right now - without loosing my iCal and address book-data. How can I secure the data on my mac instead of having it on iCloud?

Open Address Book, choose File>Export>Address Book Archive
    Open iCal, choose File>Export>iCal Archive
Then you have a copy of each to restore in case of any issues, save them where you can find them.

  • Migrating iCal and Address book data from Mac Pro G5  10.5 to new iMac10.6

I last week moved from my old Mac Pro G5 with OS 10.5 to a new iMac 2.8 GHz Intel core i7.
I succeeded pretty well to move my different files from one computer to the other not using the Migration assistant, which wouldn't work properly, but using my older Mac Pro as target disk.
Everything apparently works well with the exception of the transfer of data from iCal and my Address Book.
As suggested in a previous thread : kimaccdual: A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs, I tried to transfer the complete iCal and Address Book folders from : Home/Library/Application Support from the old to the new computer. This gave no result at all. Not any of the older data : appointments from iCal; names, addresses, phone numbers, etc (in actual fact : nothing) from the Address book application appears on the new iMac.
Can any one make a suggestion as to what specific files with their exact location contain this information so that I could try to transfer these to my new computer with more success than so far.
    Thanks for your assistance
Just for your information I succeeded to transfer Bookmarks from Safari, mails from Mail, iPhoto and iTunes data.
What could be wring with iCal and Address Book ???

    Kappy,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
I tried this for the iCal application, however without any success. In actual fact in Home/Library/Preferences I only found following references to iCal :
    com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
    com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
    com.apple.iCal.plist
which i copied from the old to the new computer as well as the iCal folder in Application Support as suggested.
As already said without any success.
As far as Address Book is concerned only the same type of files, but related to AB, are located on both computers.
Am I missing something or should I look for other files elsewhere f.i. in the "Contents" folder of the application itself ???
    Thanks for anybody's further assistance

  • ICal and adress book

Hello. I was creating a new event in iCal, but when I set a email as an alarm, it said, "You must add your own card and email adress in the Address Book in order to be able to use email alarms" So I went and added myself in my Adress Book, went and tried to set email as an alarm, but I got the same message again.
I realize that I was supposed to have my own address card already when I got the computer, but I have reinstalled the OS and now it's not there, neither is Apple's address card.
Anyone know the fix to this issue? Thanks in advance.
Nevermind, found out my name wasn't Jonathan Pang, but jonathanpang

you've probably already tried this, but have you selected a new card with your info in address book and selected the menu item Card>Make This My Card
did this once before and it worked in resetting my profile card
    good luck!

  • ICal, Mail, Adress book and more crashes upon launch

This morning I tried to open iCal, it crashed immedialtly. A window opened asking me to restore my window. Did'nt have time to click yes, the app is gone.
I trashed preferences and plists, restart computer, no amelioration.
Then tried to open Mail after restard and it does the same thing (it was working fine before retart). It offered me to retore window then it closed.
    Same with Adress Book.
Then I opened my system preferences, click on Mail, contacts and calendar, System prefs crashes.
Tried to open iCloud in syst. prefs, it also crashed (all other items in syst. prefs do not crash).
Repaired permissions (just in case) but everything still crashes.
I have no clue to what to do next... can someone help me with this?
    Thank's

Create a new User go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > "+" (make it an admin acct) and test the apps in this new account, if they work the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
If the issue is limited to your user account Did he have you try try starting up in Safe Mode and test.
(It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your apps functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not Copy & paste this is your "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library
Then go to/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the Desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, moveUsers/yourname/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.

  • Problems with iCal, Adress Book, Pages and System Preferences

    Hi,
No less. Two days ago, I noticed that iCal crashed immediately after I open it, but as I was in an hurry, didn't take attention to that. After that, I forgot completely the issue. Till today, when I discovered that Pages opens a file but immediately after that it don't respond to any command and "Force Quit" report the program as "Not Responding". The same happens with Text Edit. I investigated a little and discovered that Adress Book and System Preferences also crashes immdiately when opens. In the last case, it only happens with certain options: for instance, iCloud, Mails, Contacts & Calendars. A little more research showed me that this only happens within my administrator account (my wife and kid accounts don't have from this problem). This is also the account that I use to synchronize with my Ipad and Iphone. On the other hand, my MacBook with the same OS and almost the same programs works fine.
Any ideas about what can be the cause of this issue?
    Thanks!

    Hi all,

It is the access code from Bluetooth Assistant program for the phone.
my question is, Is here a user, who can send a SMS with MOTOKRZR K1 from adress book?
With my old Siemens S55 is this no problem.

  • Exporting address book data

Is there an easy way to export the address book data base into other database programs or eg. Excel?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hello, I was myself yesterday trying to export my Address Book into FileMakerPro which is a dataBase program. With no success. I've called Apple Assistance for 1h30 mn for nothing. Finaly somebody on the FileMaker Forum answer me. It is very simple : you have to download Address book exporter : http://www.gwenhiver.net/address-book-exporter.html (or go by google : address book exporter). And it is free. I've tryed it and he perfectly works with FileMaker Pro and I'm sure with Excel because it create a text file with tabulations.
It is so simple that it's magic ! It's a shame for apple that doesn't integrate such a easy tool. I decide that I will not use anymore the apple adress book because FMPro can also be used directly for sending mails. Happy new year - Josette9511 (excuse my english writting).
