Adress book doesn't search contacts

Three times I tryed to recover Lion 10.7.2 /cmd/R/ to resolve problem in my contacts _address book.  In search field when I typing letter to find the name , Address book doesnt react. Double click on name only extra pop up window is open ,on opposite site nothing is change.  Address book showing former contact without any change. What I have to do?to resolve this problem.

HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM!!
I recentally upgraded to Lion last month. I am having problems with address book since i uploaded new addresses in just yesterday. All of the sudden I cannot view individual addresses when I click once on them. It always just shows the first address I have in the book. This is extremely upsetting and I cannot figure out how to scroll through them.
Also when I do a search on a name, nothing comes up.
It is frustrated when there is no support and I can't figure this out on my own. All I have figured out is to try to update Address book but it is already updated. Am I missing something?
WILL TRY WHAT YOU SUGGEST THOUGH....

  • N73 doesn't search Contacts correctly

I've sync'd my new N73 with Outlook (XP) using PC Suite 6.80.21. All my contacts are loaded ok but when I try to search alphabetically the N73 picks up all contacts *containing* the letter(s) I key in rather than all contacts *starting with* the letter(s) I key in. This gives a very confusing search result.
Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix?

Just started a new topic about this before I saw this thread. I really think this is a problem. The N73 is not a business phone, it's for personal use and I think most people know the names of the people they want to call. I can understand that for business use it could be helpful to search in various ways for contacts you may not know the name of, but for personal use if I want to phone home I think typing in 'Home' should be enough don't you? At the moment if I do this it will bring any other contact I have with home in it and I have to scroll through 10 numbers before getting to mine.
As with so many things it seems that the lower models make more sense! I can't see how this can be an improvement.
I would be really interested if anyone had managed to find a work around for this problem.

  • Adress Book doesn't sync between iphone and MacBook

If I make changes or new contacts in my adressbook on the iphone 3G the information is being pushed to the mobileMe web adressbook but there is no sync to my adressbook on the MacBookPro.
Any idea what I should do to solve this problem?

It's still not pushing or syncing anything between mobileMe and iCal. Changes I make in iCal don't appear in my mobileMe calendar and changes made to mobileMe Caledar do not sync to iCal. Not in 15 minutes and not in 15 hours.
Any idea how to fix that.

  • My Adress Book shows strange behavior, cannot search or edit

    Hi folks!
I recently updated to Lion, also switched my .me to iCloud. At first everything was perfect, now I am experiencing strange behaviours:
I am starting to add fotos to my contacts because I like the view in Mail.app where the contact fotos are shown in the list of emails. After I added some more photos I cannot search in the address book anymore. Typing a name into the search field and nothing happens. Also clicking on a name an nothing happens on the right side. Absolutely nothing. There's only one entry that does not change and when hitting the "edit" Button, only this one contact is changed. Also this one contact changes when doing a right click on a contact name on the left side.
I did some searches here but did not find anything. What I did was deleting the "AddressBook-v22.abcddb" in the ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ Folder as suggested in some other threads but this does not change anything.
This is really annoying and I cannot use my Address Book which I really need. I have more than 2000 contacts inside and it's essential for my business!
    Please help!
    Thanks and best, Jochen

OK, seems like I can replicate the behaviour:
    - repair Disk Permissions
    - restart MBP (do not open all apps again)
    - after reboot, only the Finder is open
    - open Address Book
    - click on contact name on the left side, brings details on the right, editing works also -> great!
    - click in the search field and type a name
-> no filter of the list or search result appears
    - click on any contact left hand side, nothing happens on the right, the last clicked contact before the search remains open
    - double click on contact name opens separate window as expected
    - no search possible anymore
    - no editing possible anymore
-> again repair permissions, and restart and same procedure ...

I have a Mac 10.5.8 op system.  My Contacts do not syn with I cloud.  Trying to get my address book complete on both systems and now I have lots of duplicates on I cloud adress book.  How do I efficiently merge the duplictes that are now on I cloud?

You cannot use iCloud with Leopard 10.5.8. The minimum requirement is Lion 10.7.2. If you have been syncing your contacts with iCloud you can only have been doing it by some sort of unsupported hack, and if it doesn't work it's unlikely to be possible to find an explanation. If you have been using other (compliant) devices by trying to sync using both iTunes and iCloud you are likely to get duplicates.
A computer old enough running Leopard may well not be upgradeable to Lion or Mountain Lion, but if you can do so this is the only way you are going to be able to make proper use of iCloud.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). (If you are currently pre-Snow Leopard you will have to upgrade to that to access the Mac App Store: it's available in the online Apple Store.)
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • Is there a way to specify which fields are displayed in the "new contact" window in the adress book, or at least highlight the ones that are important to me?

It would be nice if I could put together the fields in the "new contact" window in the adress book, or at least highlight the ones I need with bold letters or a different color. Is there a way? Thank you.

No method I am aware of.
This add-on adds many features, but I don't know if what you seek is included.

  • Razr V3i Contacts to Adress Book Help!

I was wondering if there was a way to get my contacts from my Motorola Razr V3i to my adress book, if anyone could help that would be great!!
    Thanks

Hi. One way to get contacts onto your computer is through Bitpim. It works with bluetooth and you can sync them that way. Or you can, on your phone, go to "bluetooth" and select your computer's bluetooth name. CHoose options, and move down to "send name card." You can select the contacts you want to send. I believe you can only send a few at a time. Hope it helps.

  • IPad2 Adress Book (Contacts) crashes directy

    Hi all,
A few days ago i bought my iPad2 and I am very happy with it.
Unfortunately, when I try to start the standard Adress Book app, it directly crashes.
I also have an app wich can use the standard adress book to create classmates in that appl but that app crashes when I press 'create new classmate'.
I think it has something to do with the fact that the adress book does not work.
I have this standard adress book app crash since the very beginning of using my new iPad. My iPad runs on ios5, wich I downloaded directly when i bought my iPad. My dad has a iPad wich stilll runs on ios4.xxxx and he does not have that problem with the crashing adress book app.
I also checked google and saw many more people who have the same problem as I have, but I couldn't find a working solution.
So please help me with this one, I realy enjoy my iPad and it is so sad that the adress book app doesn't work.
And yes, I did shut off the Adress Book app and rebooted my device
Thanks and have a nice day,
    Jordi

Ive go the pad this way. IOS 5 is preinstalled. I use googlemail, maybe that causes the problem.

  • Synching Contacts on IPhone to Adress Book

Hi, I've been having trouble synching my contacts from my IPhone 4 to my Adress Book. I know they've been synched and are available in my ITunes backups, but I can't seem to export them to the Adress Book. Any suggestions?

If you're using Mobile Me, you can try this: On the iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contact, Calendars > Account Name. Turn OFF contacts syncing. The in iTunes on the computer, view the Info tab on the iPhone item page. You should now be able to check the Sync Address Book checkbox and then click the Sync button. This might work with non Mobile Me accounts too.

  • Changing multipel Adress Book entries at once?

    Heya everybody.
Does anyone know any way to change like a 100 Adress Book entries at once?
I have a bunch of contacts that work at the same company. And say for example that the company changed name from Banana Computers to Banana Hardware and I just want to change that one thing for all my contacts?
I have seen a similar option in almost every other Mac OS X applications, iPhoto, iTunes etc. But I can't seem to find it in Adress Book.
Even if it's not in there, I think there should be some Automator work action for it. But it seems that the Automator actions for Adress Book are totally useless. And I've searched for new ones.
Please help this is killing me.

You nee to use Applescript. Try this one.
    AK
click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">tell application "Address Book"
    repeat with ThisOne in people
if organization of ThisOne = "Banana Computers" then
set organization of ThisOne to "Banana Hardware"
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell</pre>
(The recent upgrade to the discussions has disabled the link that allows direct opening of a script, so run Script Editor and copy in the script.)

  • Birthday from Adress Book not shown in iCal

Hi, I have checked option "Show Birthday Calendar" in iCal, but birthdays from Adress Book not shown. I found where is problem: Contact's birthdays from local adress book (On My Mac) are shown properly in iCal, but contact's birthdays from my adress book on Exchange 2007 (RU9) are not shown... I think this is a bug to be fixed...

Wish I'd looked here first! Have just spent a couple of hours trying to get birthdays to appear in iCal after completing an upgrade from Exchange 2003 to 2007. Same problem as reported above - they don't appear. I've tried Dates 2 iCal (shareware with good reviews) but it doesn't seem to help.
Copying the Exchange address book to 'on my Mac' doesn't seem to do anything either.
The only workaround I can think of is manually adding recurring events into the Exchange calendar for the relevant birthdays. That's a pain, and kind of flies in the face of the whole "integrates natively with Exchange, something even Microsoft doesn't do" tag. A more accurate tag would seem to be "doesn't work quite as well as iCal under Leopard" (he said, slightly grumpily).
    Anyone have any other ideas?

  • ICal and Adress Book sync brings back deleted stuff

    Hi everyone,
I hope this wasn't posted yet, in any case I couldn't find it, so sorry for any double posts.
I use my iPhone as my primary work device and perform all changes of Calendar and Contact data on it. When I sync it with my desktop Mac (PowerMac G4 that I use as backup device for pretty much everything) all the old contact details and calendar events that I deleted from the iPhone are synced back to it from the desktop Mac. I exclusively sync via iTunes.
So what I want would be a one-way sync from my iPhone to the desktop Mac so iCal and Adress Book there are just as up to date as on the iPhone. Any suggestions?
    Thanks a bunch!

    Thanks, Allan.
I am not sure if I will follow your advice, however. While you're probably right and it should be a true sync, what I was trying to say was that in my case (and apparently Berit's as well) it simply isn't.
Which means that apart from the fact that we will probably have to clean out our adress books and calendars again after a reset and sync. I've done that three times already and believe me, it's a major pain. Plus, there is also a chance it won't work afterwards.
I was actually hoping for there to be some workaround solution like a one-way sync. And I'm not happy with Apple's tendency to prevent such workarounds wherever they can. I understand they want to profit from their awesome products but wherever anything doesn't work they're starting to lose their user friendliness along the way. Which still, to me, is their selling point number one, notwithstanding the really great design.
Honestly, I'm not sure what to do right now.
But thanks again for your time. I'll keep posting what happens.
    Best,
    Martin
