Adress Book has completely vanished...

Hey Everyone,
Apparently, Address Book is no more. On my computer at least. About a week ago it just vanished. I looked for it in spotlight, nothing.
When I search up a contact in spotlight it will come up in text edit with lots of strange symbols and such.
Can anyone help me?
I am up to date on all my software.

Is the application itself missing? Try logging into an administrative user account and launching Terminal.app (in the /Applications/Utilities folder). Copy and paste the following line of text and press the \[return] key:
sudo find / -type d -name "Address Book.app"
You will be asked to enter your admin password. Enter it. It will not be echoed back to you in the Terminal window as you type it, so type carefully. If the Address Book application still exists on your computer, that should find it. If it doesn't, according to http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=375268, if you can find your installer DVD and click on the Optional Installs package, you should be able to reinstall it. I'd do all the disk utility maintenance stuff that BDAqua has suggested, first, though, before reinstalling the application.
If it is your data that you are looking for, Tiger format is a bit different than Leopard. You are in the Tiger mail forum, forum ID 753 (as you can see from your URL field when viewing the list of threads). Leopard mail forum is forum ID 1223. What BDAqua told you to look for insofar as user's address book data (AddressBook.data.previous, etc.) was what a Tiger user would look for.
In Leopard, Address Book user data is normally stored in your user folder's Library folder's Application Support folder in a folder named AddressBook. It has an invisible file named .database.lockN, regular files named AddressBook-v22.abcddb, LastImport.plist, and MailRecents-v4.abcdmr, and two directories named Images and Metadata in it.
Those two directories have a bunch of files in them with names built out of hexadecimal characters, such as FEA814E2-E753-4904-B32F-08384B7C317C:ABPerson.abcdp or FF37638B-0969-4CD6-A20F-4FFAAAB9A3A5. The Metadata folder at least has a more consistent "ABPerson.abcdp" as the end of its filenames.
So, you could type a command similar to the above, or copy and paste it into Terminal, such as:
sudo find / -name "*ABPerson.abcdp"
or
sudo find / -name "AddressBook-v22.abcddb"
and so on.
That would give you an indication of where your data is located, if that is what is AWOL and it still exists on your hard drive.

  • Adress book has totally gone

    hello
my adress book has totally gone, around 2000 names lost, in 1 second for no reason, please help me...!
    thanx

The same thing happend to me 3 times in the last couple of days. It seems to coincide with a crash of Mail and or iChat. My whole Address Book is deleted save for a contact for Apple and my own card. After the first time it happened I tried to retrieve a back-up from .Mac and only 4 contacts were added to my empty Address Book. Luckily I had a month old back-up on my laptop. Now I back up everyday using the "Back up Address Book" command under the file menu of Address Book. Does anyone know why this keeps happening or how to prevent it from continuing?

  • ITunes has completely vanished from my PC!

Help please! Just turned on my PC and iTunes has disappeared off it - the Music Library is still there with all the content including recently downloaded music, but the shortcut on the toolbar to iTunes says the programme cannot be found, and the desktop icon has completely gone. It does not appear in my list of all programmes either.
Can I just reinstall iTunes, and will my music content then sync with it? And does anyone know how this could have happened?
    Thanks.

I've gone through this several times in the past year or so. Weird thing was that several days might go by and then all of a sudden it's there and running normal. I can't explain why this would happen but after many times turning my computer on and off I would just get lucky and it would reappear. Very strange.

  • My iTunes Library has completely vanished! (in iTunes, on disk it is fine...)

I opened iTunes yesterday and my iTunes Library suddenly was empty (10,000 items missing!). As if I was using iTunes for the first time! I Checked Preferences, all OK. I Checked File Sys. (Itunes Media folder) all OK. Still, in iTunes, my library completely empty. So, to reload my iTunes Media, I selected 'Add Folder to Lib' and selected my usual iTunes Media folder (the same one specified in Advanced Preferences) to reload my missing content. The content now appears (nothing lost) but I cannot synch my 4 iPhones and iPad any longer... I get the following:
I do NOT want to erase & rebuild my iPad and iPhones from scratch!  each phone & ipad having at least 10 full pages with at least 8 full sub-folders per page!
How can I hack the iTunes metadata to recognize that nothing has changed and that this (my laptop) is my one & only iTunes ibrary! (and always had been).
(PS I have backups from all iPhones & iPad in iCloud and on disk).
I need some help here please...
    thanks in advance,
    -Billy

  • Weekly View has completely vanished!

This is quite a bizarre occurrence - I can view my iCal calendars in both the Daily and the Monthly views - but whenever I choose the weekly one, the entire screen disappears. The program is still running and, if I go to the top "View" menu and choose either the Daily or Monthly versions, it pops back up again. Any thoughts?
    15" Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

does that not affect everything else in iCal as well?
It affects the window sizes and preferences accessible from iCal's preference window. A new preference file is written and the preferences are set to the default when iCal is opened next. You do not need to do a reboot.

  • What is wrong? facetime has completely vanished.

Hi, I'm desperate to solve this problem.
I have an unlocked iphone 4s, up until a week ago, i had a green facetime icon in my home screen and i was making and receiving facetime video calls perfectly. then i wake up to find the facetime icon gone (tried spotlight search, nothing) and in settings, the option for facetime settings gone. i have contacted my provider and they assured me there is no restriction whatsoever on facetime and the issue was not from their end.
i tried rebooting, erasing all content then restoring data, nothing works.
    PLEASE HELP.
the phone was purchased in the middle east in 2011 and i've been using facetime since 2012 and this problem happened recently. also i have verification from batelco bahrain (my carrier) that facetime is not restricted in any way.

Unlocked or not is not the issue with FaceTime.
If there is no FaceTime in Settings and restrictions is not set in Settings > General > Restrictions > FaceTime then
your iPhone from the Middle East is banned from using FaceTime.

I have a Mac 10.5.8 op system.  My Contacts do not syn with I cloud.  Trying to get my address book complete on both systems and now I have lots of duplicates on I cloud adress book.  How do I efficiently merge the duplictes that are now on I cloud?

You cannot use iCloud with Leopard 10.5.8. The minimum requirement is Lion 10.7.2. If you have been syncing your contacts with iCloud you can only have been doing it by some sort of unsupported hack, and if it doesn't work it's unlikely to be possible to find an explanation. If you have been using other (compliant) devices by trying to sync using both iTunes and iCloud you are likely to get duplicates.
A computer old enough running Leopard may well not be upgradeable to Lion or Mountain Lion, but if you can do so this is the only way you are going to be able to make proper use of iCloud.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). (If you are currently pre-Snow Leopard you will have to upgrade to that to access the Mac App Store: it's available in the online Apple Store.)
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56717.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

  • Changing multipel Adress Book entries at once?

    Heya everybody.
Does anyone know any way to change like a 100 Adress Book entries at once?
I have a bunch of contacts that work at the same company. And say for example that the company changed name from Banana Computers to Banana Hardware and I just want to change that one thing for all my contacts?
I have seen a similar option in almost every other Mac OS X applications, iPhoto, iTunes etc. But I can't seem to find it in Adress Book.
Even if it's not in there, I think there should be some Automator work action for it. But it seems that the Automator actions for Adress Book are totally useless. And I've searched for new ones.
Please help this is killing me.

You nee to use Applescript. Try this one.
    AK
click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">tell application "Address Book"
    repeat with ThisOne in people
if organization of ThisOne = "Banana Computers" then
set organization of ThisOne to "Banana Hardware"
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell</pre>
(The recent upgrade to the discussions has disabled the link that allows direct opening of a script, so run Script Editor and copy in the script.)

  • Was anyone succesful in sending sms with adress book through motorola phone

    Hello,
was anyone? There is here and there posts one the topic but it is unclear to me is there a general solution or just people succesful?
What is weird that apple official list of supported phones has my motorola v535 phone. It is detected correctly by bluetooth assistant, but adress book service is not listed as available. Though apple list says both isinc and adress book services are available for this phone.
    Anyone any ideas?

I just got a Motorola E815 and found out that in order to access the phone via Address Book like you said I need Tiger. I've been thinking of upgrading.
I did get my iBook to use the cell phone as a dialup modem over bluetooth, but then found out that Verizon doesn't allow it. (another story altogether. grumble grumble)

I can not add anybody into my adressbook. And this makes me trouble when i try to find the person who i met new.Can you pls help me?
    Brgds
    Fatih

    Hello !
    Try the following:
Simply delete all the  Messenger apps (Yahoo, MSN or Live) which you might have upgraded recently / delete apps which were recently installed before the error which actually started occuring .
After that unplug the battery while the phone is still "on" and restart the phone.
In fact I had deleted a whole bunch of apps to facilitate my OS upgrade as I did not have enough memory on my Device.
This not only helped solve my above mentioned problem but also made my phone restart in less than 3 minutes (the earlier reboot was done in not less than 15  minutes !!).
Therefore my conclusion as from the above incidents is to keep your apps in the bare minimum so that your phone performs to the best.
    Hope this resolves your Problem!
If your problem has been resolved then would request you to Click on "Like" and accept as "Solution" so that other Advisors doesnt invest their time on this Message anymore.

  • Face book has stopped working on my I pad.  I got to it through Safari as i do on my mac. It works on my mac but stopped working last night on my i-pad

face book has stopped working on my I pad.  I got to it through Safari as i do on my mac. It works on my mac but stopped working last night on my i-pad

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History
If you stillc an't access Facebook via Safari then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
There are a number of Facebook apps (including an 'official' one), which might be better than accessing it via Safari
