Adressbook cannot be saved
Hi,
I don't know if this is the right forum, but I found no other.
So once in a while I like to save my adress book data. Especially since due to a bug on the iPhone Software I lost all my data.
Anyway after updating from 10.4 to 10.5 on my intel iMac the data cannot be saved anymore. The command "Save adress book" cannot be selected in the menue. It stays grey no matter how often I change adresses.
Any idea?
Hi Rolf,
Sorry to not have a solution. You may get more responses if you re-post this in the Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard forum.
Best wishes
John M

iPod Classic 80GB. Message reads ' iTunes library cannot be saved you do not have enough access privileges for this operation'. It says it has synced but it hasn't. Please help, I am not very tech minded.
See this article about troubleshooting the error message regarding access privelages. It may be preventing your iTunes library from being able to save/retain music you have recently imported to it, which may explain why no new content is being added to your device.
Trouble adding music to iTunes library or importing audio CD

This issue is somewhat complex so I will try to explain it as clearly as I can. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
It all began when I kept getting popups from my iPad saying that I had not backed up since May. I realized that was pretty dangerous so I decided to finally try syncing it to iTunes, though I had avoided doing so for so long because I knew that when I tried there was no room on the computer. I then remembered that I have an external hard drive with plenty of storage space, so I got that out and set it up with a folder to move iTunes and the backup into.
On iTunes I went to the Advanced Preferences and changed iTunes Media Folder Location to the G: folder, with the keep organized box checked. I also copied the previous backups from the original C: drive to G: so that I could delete the ones on C:.
I used Junction Link Magic to link my now empty MobileSync backup on C: to a new (JLM would not work unless it was empty) backup folder on external hard drive G:.
I plugged in my iPad to iTunes to sync it, and while it was backing up I checked the new folder on G: to make sure that the backup was being put there. It was.
However, about halfway through I got the message "iTunes library file cannot be saved. The disk you are attempting to use is full."
My question is Why? If it is being made in a 1.5 terabyte hard drive now, and not the computer, why is there no disk space? My guess is that it must still somehow be saving to the computer. But how? And how can I get it to save solely on the G: drive where there is enough room?
I am running Windows XP and the latest version of iTunes.
An additional but not as crucial issue:
Much of my music has been lost, with the being displayed next to the songs in the iTunes library, and only 50 (purchased) songs remain on my iPad. This was because those missing songs were stored on a different external hard drive ( I:). However, I copied many of the music folders on I: over to G: so that everything could be together. I am wondering if it is possible for me to get these songs back onto my iPad. But this is not my most important issue right now, because I believe that once I get the first issue solved I can simply plug in I: and G: at the same time while syncing the iPad, and get the songs back.
Note: I have come to realize the iTunes program itself is still under Program Files in the C: drive. Does this have to do with anything?Short term, free up some disk space. Long term, move the library to a bigger drive.

When i try to do a software update, it finishes and then says that the update cannot be saved because it has probably been corrupted during the download. This has happened a number of times and i do not know why, any help?

Title says it all. If I try to "open" an attachment, the download dialogue comes up and the progress bar begins to fill, then when it should be complete I get the message:
"The download cannot be saved because an unknown error occurred
Please Try Again."
I can still save the files, but then I have to delete them (and that's just a hassle). Any help would be appreciated!Tools, Options, Attachments, Incoming. Then set to your prefered PDF reader.
An update has reset this to the internal PDF viewer rather than sticking with the one you had before. This reader does not work on my machine. -
ITunes Library File Cannot be Saved. The Disk Cannot be Read From . . .
I use a MacBook Pro with a healthy battery. My iTunes songs are on a USB drive. The Database and XML files are on my MacBook. Power went out in my house and the USB drive shut off. The MacBook stayed up and running. Power came back, powered on the USB drive, open iTunes, and bang: This sorry error: iTunes Library File Cannot be Saved. The Disk Cannot be Read From or Written to.
The disks are healthy, did an fsck and ran disk verify/repair. No problems. Restart iTunes, same error. Obviously a corrupted Databse file. This wouldn't be a big deal if only the XML info would be useful and actually restore critical info such as play count and dates which is essential for the Not-So-Smart Playlist dependencies to work.
This is the third time I've been burned with corrupted iTunes "Database" files. I use "Database" in quotes because a true Database wouldn't crap out like this. It would be recoverable. It would understand a simple SQL "Where" statement. It would have a maintenance script and some means for recoverable backup beyond the lame process of copying the XML file. Or it would at least read in the info the XML file.
I am becoming disillusioned with iTunes and I'm beginning to yearn for my old Linux box running GTKPod which never failed me....OK, here's an update - After doing the restore as mentioned having everything seemingly work, I erroniously downloaded the iTunes 7.4 & 7.4.1 updates. Now, about 80% of library is non-responsive, ie: shows up in iTunes, but clicking to play does nothing at all. the other 20% of my library plays, but it's not the song it is supposed to be playing. For example, clicking on a song from say, ABBA prodes a wonderful Gorillaz track :-/ (The same Gorillaz track which will not play if I select it...)
I reiterate: WE NEED A MEANS TO BACKUP OUR LIBRARIES RELIABLY!!!!!!!!!! -
I cannot get past this error. This is the third time I am having this issue with iTunes. I have moved my library off of the systems hard drive onto an external as advised by an Apple Store rep, and now I am back to this. What have some of you done to avoid this error?
== Error -54 ==
From an OS9 reference, error -54 is a software lock on a file or a permissions error. (Some of the old codes still apply to OSX although there is no formal list of OSX error codes.)
First, try simply restarting your computer.
iTunes Library cannot be saved (Error -54) - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1912814
Unknown error (-54) while syncing ipod - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1082953 - problem was locked files
Why does iTunes keep showing a -54 error when I sync my iPad? - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3727114
Error -54 possibly related to Touch Copy - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3727114 - cleared by deleting preferences on iPad. -
Can anyone help me with this problem. ITunes message," The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." I have administrator account and transferred files from old PC. I downloaded new iTunes program on new PC. I synced my iPhone to new PC, no problem. I deleted old account after indicating shared files to new admin account. Can anyone help?
A belated reply, as the problems itunes has have discouraged me from using it much. If you uncheck the "read only" box, it doesn't stay that way! Next time you use it, the box comes up checked.
I'm still having that problem, even when I open iTunes as administrator.
I've yet to see the answer to this problem. I use itunes mostly to download audiobooks, and I'm ready to download more, and want to save them! -

The itunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error has occured (-50)
Been having this problem for a week or so now (after i upgraded to 7.6). It tells me several times that the library cannot be saved and then when i go to open itunes the next time it says the library is not an actual library and it builds me a new library called (Damaged). I called tech support and they had me rebuild the library and it appreared to work until I started loading in my music and movies. The previous version of Itunes worked great with the current media that i have. Please advise, I would sure get a lot more done around the house if this was fixed!
(trying to not freak out about this since Apple removed my last post after I expressed my true feelings!)
Thanks for any help any one can get me!
ShaneI've had this same problem, too, an had to rebuild my library, SEVERAL times, now. My NEW problem is that my current COMPLETE library is not visible through iTunes as an option to choose (it's greyed out, essentially unchoosable), only through Finder, and when I try to open it manually by clicking it in Finder, hoping that it will spur iTunes to open with it, it simply says that iTunes can't open it, or that it doesn't exist or some malarky like that. getting quite sick and tired of this run around....

Error Message: The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. Unknown Error 13001
My error message says:
The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An Unknown error occurred (13001).
Ever since I loaded the new 3.0 touch upgrade I have been bombarded by error after error. I have turned off genius which seemed to fix the problem at first but about an hour later the error warning popped up again. I have tried the shift start and selected my library with no improvement. It seems to pop up if I load a new podcast or download something and then fails to download.Hmmm, that error message came up a lot with older itunes & Genius, like 8.0 version. But you have 8.2.
I don't know why it would crash on a download unless it is maybe a permissions problem. The download starts, but permissions make it so it cannot save it at the very end? Make sure you have ownership and full control over your itunes folder and all its subfolders.
How to Take Ownership and Grant Permissions in Windows Vista
And since you've turned off Genius, try deleting these 2 files
iTunes Library Genius.itdb
iTunes Library Extras.itdb
Restart itunes and see if there is any difference....good luck! -
Error message -48: The itunes library file cannot be saved.
Hello,
When I open up my itunes i get an error message 48 - the itunes library file cannot be saved. All my data is there - music, podcasts etc. Just wondering if this error message means anything, if so what, and what I can do to fix it?
Thanks!I just called Apple Support and I think they helped me, but I'm still waiting to see if the error message returns. I was experiencing the same problem. Whenever I started iTunes, I would get the -48 error message. Everything else was working fine. Apple Support instructed me to delete some files from a folder and restart my pc. I did this and it seems to have worked. The folder is on my C:/ drive. Using Windows Explorer, I went to my C:/ drive and then opened the following folders in this order: "Documents and Settings", "Administrator", "Application Data", "Apple Computer", "iTunes", "iPod Software Updates". Inside the iPod Software Updates folder, I found four files which I deleted. I then emptied my trash can and restarted my pc. After I restarted my pc and opened iTunes, the error message did not come up. So it looks like my problem has been solved. Just some minor glitch having to do with the last update. I should mention that I did just get an iPod Classic 80 gig which replaced my 30 gig iPod Photo which just died.
