Adresses in Apple mail

Apple has regressed as they have upgraded OS versions with regard to mail.  I have mailing lists in my address book.  One I use in particular has 78 names in it.  If I want to send to the whole group...no problem.  If I want to send only to a select few from the list, here's the rub.  In OS 10.7, you could open the mailing list and simply go through it and double click on the names you wanted and they would appear in your to: or bcc: address line.  Then I got mavericks.  The double click no longer worked.  But I could hold down the command key and click on names and they would be highlighted and then I could drag them into the address line.
Now with Yosemite, it gets worse.  If I open the mailing list, I see the names.  I can't drag them over, I can't double click on them.  If I click on a name, it opens the address for that individual.  If I click on the address, it moves over to the address line and the mailing list closes.  I'd have to open it for EACH AND EVERY ONE that I want to include.  Oh yes, I know I can start to type their name in the address line and they would pop up, but I go through the list to see who I want to include...can't remember the 78 names.  Why couldn't they leave things alone, rather than changing things that are not broken with every new upgrade.
Another point, I sent in to apple suggestions...If I get a message for John X and I want to forward it to folks in my mailing list....but not to John, who sent me the message...I drag the mailing list name into the address bar and then right click to expand the list.  The list is in gobbledy-gook order and I have to search through the list to find the name I want to remove.  It would be so much simpler if the list opened in alphabetical order.

You can't. It doesn't work that way in landscape view. There is no way to swipe the messages list or the mailboxes list off of the screen like you can do in portrait mode.

  • Apple Mail sends out emails when turned on. Adress book creates groups of email addresses

I have had this issue with my address book for a while in that it creates new entries with just an email address as the actual entry and then hundreds of other email addresses from address book as this entry's additional email addresses.
At the same time I had an issue with Apple Mail that I thought was unrelated but now I am not that sure anymore. When I turn Apple Mail on, it sends out emails that look like an endless chain of responses (spam) to the same email that advertises  all kinds of stuff.
When I first noticed the issue I turned Mail off (a year ago). After updating to Lion I tried to use mail again but had the same issue and have not been using it since. But I appear to still find new entries in my address book all the time.
I ran some software (ClamX) but wasn't able to find any malware so far. I can't imagine someone hacking into my machine and doing all this my hand. For what?
So I am wondering whether anyone has had similar symptoms on their Mac?

Do you recognize the new entries in Address Book, or the contents of the messages?

  • How to use multiple name-adresses pairs in Mail?

    Hello there,
I had to format my machine due to a RAM glitch, and forgot how this was done.
On the same email account, I want to use different names-addresses pairs (Alias), not just adresses (that is easy to do). I know it involves the edition of com.apple.mail.plist with a specialized editor (I started with Pref Setter, but it doesn't seem to be working properly as one item can't be renamed) since it is not in clear text anymore, but I can't succeed.
Can anyone detail what is implied by this change?

    Thanks Abishek for your reply.
The problem is about passing 2 array list objects.
I have already done your proposal and the problem is you have both array list object with same value.
    My requirement is,
I want to have ArrayList variables arrayList1  and arrayList2. Each will be populated with corresponding values based on the Rules fired.
For. eg. Rule1 fires and adds "Value1" to arrayList1. Rule2 fires and adds "Value2" to arrayList2.
I guess, this is not possible with default behaviour. Only Custom Helper Class can help.
However I solved the problem in a different way. I created a schema which supports repeating nodes. Also I created a Helper class to Add Node to the document.
    <Test>
          <RepeatingNodes1><Node></Node><Node></Node>.......</RepeatingNodes1>
          <RepeatingNodes2><Node></Node><Node></Node>.......</RepeatingNodes2>
    </Test>
Using the helper class, I add as many nodes possible.
    thanks

  • Apple Mail on Snow Leopard 1.6.8

I'm aware this subject isn't new but still I find no solutions ....
Hence, very many thanks to anyone who will help me to solve this substantial problem
Since the unfortunate invention of Icloud my Apple Mail on Snow Leopard 1.6.8 no longer work properly.
    My machine:
    Model Name:          Mac Pro
    Model Identifier:          MacPro4,1
    Processor Name:          Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed:          3,32 GHz
    RAM 16 GB (Apple Original)
Mail should take care of my me.com accounts, but I also have other accounts located elsewhere with a different suffix (.it, co.uk)
I tried to set up Snow Leopard Mail following every single help tread here and at other websites. None of which seems to work properly, and the variety of "helps" simply tells me there is no "sound" system to use Snow Leopard with the current Apple Email set-up.
Yet "randomly" Mail will stop loading my "me.com" mail opening an error message telling me the "me.com" certificate is no longer trustable.ù
I instructed Apple Mail to "trust" the certificate, but this option does not work, or at least only works randomly.
Mails also never recognizes and loads messages from my other suffix adresses. It enters in an endless connection asking to verify either my User or pass, to finally put these accounts offline. Using Safari with my user and pass (the same as in Apple Mail) everythings works well.
More: if I am working on something else (Long Photoshop Actions, Final Cut Pro rendering and more), this window message halts everything.
This problem is serious, as I usually performed this work at night. or when I don't need to stare at a screen doing nothing.
I erased my computer with the 32 zero pass options and reinstalled the original Snow Leo system (MAC OS X 10.6.2) and this problem vanishes.
As soon as I update with the Combo Upgrade the problem begins again.
My upgrades are always "fresh updates" both as a direct update from the apple menu/Software update, or downloading the combo as dmg to then install.
The result is exactly the same.
I received a fresh copy from the local Apple Store in case my original had some magical problems, but nothing changed.
Yet I can't simply use SL 10.6.2 (the original software I got with the Machine) as many programs I paid for require the latest Snow Leopard.
While I could use another drive with SL 10.6.2, just for the Mail, is really a problem to reboot, to reboot again to continue my work.
In my heart I certainly believe email these days is a "public service" especially after paying thousand dollars over the years, and Apple policy to force user to purchase their latest machines and or, waste time to reconstruct their previous work to adpat it to their industrial policy is simply not fair.
While I understand and support advances in technology and so on, I believe this going forward shouldn't be done at the expenses of the customers, but "freedom of choice" is parts of all constitution as introduced centuries ago in the US.
I read in various site Apple was planning a Snow Leopard 10.6.9 version, but so far nothing happened. Maybe this project was dismissed.
Loosing important emails is a superior problem for my work.
I "have" to use Snow Leopard because I need the Rosetta function Apple discontinued in Lion and Mountain Lion.
Some readers might dislike this post, yet I used Apple since Apple II, I bought at least 100 machines since, I went through the various software/hardware changes, with ease. I believe my current anger is legitimate.
    Can someone please help?

you can save a little time - since Mail is one of the Optional Install items found by running the same-named installer within the folder on the DVD. you'll still need the 10.6.7 combo afterwards.

  • Export Apple mail to Outlook 2011 for Mac

    Hi everyone,
I don't like the serie Mail/iCal/Carnet d'adresses from Apple, reason why I bought Outlook 2011 for Mac.
I succeed transferring all my contacts to Outlook.
I try now to transfer all my mails with their categories to Outlook too but I don't succeed.  I read some discussions on this forum but they are obsolete as they were with snowLeopard and Outlook 2011.  Would someone have good news for me and find a way to transfer all the mails with their categories from Apple Mail to Outlook 2011 for Mac ?
It would be nice and to receive a positive answer.
    Thank you for your help

INFORMATION on Emailchemy from another Forum
I’ve found a way in which you can import Apple Mail into Outlook 2011 on Mac OS X Lion.
The software I’m running is Mac OS X 10.7.2 on a 2011 MacBook Pro.
You need to purchase an app called Emailchemy. It’s 29.99 for an individual license, and 49.99 for a family license. There are enterprise versions available as well.
Once you run the app, you need to do the following:
    1. Export all mailboxes from Apple Mail to your desktop (or any other suitable location on your computer). You do this by selecting the mailbox, and then clicking on “Mailbox”, and then “Export Mailbox”. Save the destination, and the file is saved automatically.
    2. Then you open Emailchemy and do the following:
    - click on “toolbox” in the bottom left hand corner
    - click on the second box on the top left hand called “advanced email conversion”
    - click on “add file”
    - select the folder (s) you just exported from Apple Mail (e.g. Inbox.mbox)
    Now here comes the trick
    - select format “apple mail 1.0 in the format option at the bottom
    - then 3 sub-folders will appear “info-p.list”, “mbox” and “table of contents”
    Select “mbox”
    - click on “convert” and choose a save file name. Choose the format “MBOX file (standard mbox)”
    - click on save
And you then have a folder created which Outlook 2011 recognizes and can import.
I just imported all my Apple Mail into Outlook 2011 – it works really well too – the formatting, attachments, etc are all there!
    Hope this helps.

  • How to deactivate rules sync in apple mail?

    Hi,
unfortunately, rules in apple mail are synced via iCloud when "Documents & Data" is activated in iCloud settings. I would have thought that deactivating the "Mail" checkbox should do that, but this one seems to be related to iCloud email adresses only.
My problem is, that I need the "Document & Data" sync for other apps, but I cannot turn it on because then, mail rules will be synced too. This leads to a horrible mess as I have different rules on my private mac and on my business mac.
How can I deactivate the "Documents & Data" sync just for a single app (in this case Apple Mail) and leave it on for the others? Did I miss something, or can I just turn it on and off for all apps?
    Thanks in advance,
    Timo

I don't have a second computer to test, but you could use DropBox, OneDrive, Box.com or other cloud service to sync your documents and data.

  • Apple Mail 6.3 auto defaulting to courier font

OS - 10.8.3 ----  I am using a gmail adress sending/recieving through Apple Mail 6.3.  My preferences are all set to Arial 11, however when opejn by the recipient all the text in the message is converted to courier 13.  It really does not look good.  In terms of electronic firtst impressions, it is not going to work out very well. Thnak you very much for any thougts.

The font substitution is probably happening on the recepient's computer.
I suggest you try Arial 12, it's a more common typeface, so it may not generate font substitution at the other end.

  • HT2623 I forgot the password for my .mac account and cannot log into it from Apple Mail.  I have an iCloud mail account but did not convert my .mac account to iCloud.  How can I log into my .mac or .me email?

I set up .mac, including email, around 2006.  I believe my .mac account became a .me account, but I continued to receive email sent to .mac until about March 2013.
I accessed my .mac account using Apple Mail on an iMac running OS X 4.11.  I'm still using that machine.
In July 2013, I upgraded my MacBook Pro to OS X 8.5, bought an iPod Touch and set up an iCloud account.
I forgot my .mac password and I want to open an email message sent to my .mac email account.
When I attempt to log into my .mac account using Apple Mail, my password attempts are rejected by a .me mail server.
Is there any way I can restore my access to my .mac or .me email?
    Thanks,

  • How do I restore an Apple Mail account to a previous date?

I have three accounts in Apple Mail: my Exchange server account, and two IMAP accounts. I need to restore ONLY the Exchange server mailbox to where it was on April 1st and can't do so the normal way of having the Exchange mail stores restored.
Is there anything in Time Machine back on April 1st that will either let me restore this account to that date, or at least act as an archive of the folders and their content that was in this account on that date?
I see the folders names I need (corresponding to my Mail tree structure) under home/library/mail/exchange/ but when I open any of the folders they each have one .plist file in them...that's it...no messages.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    LarryMcJ

you still should be able to do it just like I said. When mail is active, start TM and go back to the time point where all those folders were still present. Highlight them and click restore.
That's how TM is intended to work in Mail. really!
If you don't believe me and are determined to do it in Finder you can do that too.
Quit Mail and go to the folder homedirectory/Library/Mail
select the folder for the mail account that used to contain all those folders.
Start TM and go back to the time when those folders were there. restore them.
Finally, move the file Envelope Index from homedirectory/Library/Mail to desktop and start Mail. Mail will say that it needs to import your data. say yes. It will reindex everything and you'll be back to where you want to be.

  • Gmail no longer working with Apple Mail?

In the lasts 24 hours, without making changes to hardware or software, Mail has quit retrieving mail from my gmail accounts.
While I never receive any sort of warning about passwords or other issue, I simply get this:
And the "activity" window just stays that way... for hours with no result.  The Connection Doctor window:
The Church Email account is an old one that is no longer active... I just haven't removed it from my list.  But the "verify username and password" message is consistent... Strangely enough, down the same window - the SMTP connection works just fine. I can sent  mail from all of my gmail accounts using Mail... Considering that the user name/password is the same for both sending and receiving mail.. SOMETHING is funky with Apple Mail.
Anybody have a guess what to check? This is frustrating.

    Michael Battenfield wrote:

Did you change any setting in Mail? Did you change your gmail account password? Did you activate 2-step verification on your gmail account?
If you haven't done anything from above, maybe problem is with your network... Did you try to turn off your router for few minutes and then turn ON again?
Did you install any 3rd party security apps on your Mac? Did you enable system firewall? Do you use any proxy servers? Do you use VPN?
    There might be more questions...

  • Apple Mail Setup (change the way the view is on my end)

I need to hire someone about 13 on retainer, just to answer what I THINK should be easily answered questions. I have looked for about 15 minutes, searching for suggestions, others with similar issues, and at the end of the day, I F I N A L L Y found this 'start a discussion' button!!! Oh happy day! Now, the question that most might think ridiculously simple. On this page  http://www.apple.com/osx/apps/#mail there is a pic of an open mail application. If I wanted to setup MY mail client (which is, of course, Apple Mail) to look exactly like the image in the ad for OS X Mountain Lion (mail) how might I accomplish that task?
AND, when I just went back to that page to get the URL, I noticed it states 'Mountain Lion.' I am still running Snow Leopard, and hoping that it really might not make a difference re the mail app.
AND, since I just 'opened the door' re Mountain Lion, with my Snow Leopard running just fine (and it took a while to get there, but I kept at it, and finally have seen the 'apple bugs' fading to nil, and downloads from apple fixing any 'bugs' so I really don't want to go to Mountain Lion, unless I'm really missing the "Next Big Thing!" (thanks to Vince gill for the song title)!
And thanks, really, to anyone that can suppress the urge to laugh at the quandry, and offer real help.
(remember, there are NO stupid questions......
    only stupid people!)
And yes, that is a simple pun, aimed more or less at people like me. I'm foolish enough to believe that if I spend over $2500 on a Mac, instead of spending $1100 for a high end gaggledanger PC, with a free 4Gig external hard drive with every purchase until 3/1/2013, that I might get something that was mucho mas operator friendly.
But......on the other hand, owning 4 macs by now, I DO know that I have learned enough through a local Mac/Apple tech, and online support such as here, that I can download and install programs that used to baffle me, which brings me full circle back to the "should I buy the Mountain Lion software, and is it still considered an El Cheapo upgrade (from Snow Leopard) and have all the glitches (considering that this IS ... an Apple product, and is probably immune to such clutter as any issues with names consistent with insects and other gangster type vermin which have been known to 'infect' the lesser standard PC machines?

That format was introduced with OS X 10.7, borrowing, I believe, from the iPhone. I just booted back to OS X 10.6, and couldn't find a way to get the mail column on the left with the message on the right. I can do that in OS X 10.7.
If you want to upgrade, OS X 10.7 is available by calling the online Apple store, which in the US is at 800-MY-APPLE. OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion is available from the App store. Note if you decide to upgrade to either, that you lose the ability to run PowerPC programs, as that support was dropped in OS X 10.7. People with Office 2004 found that out when it wouldn't run after the update. Later version of Office are OK.

  • Apple Mail unable to forward attachments

I called tech support and they said to save an attachment to the desk top - which is fine if it's 1 file and that works. I have one with 8 jpg files that goes with text and all I get are the blue boxes with the
    photos missing.
I can't seem to find a work around with Apple Mail so I go to our Gmail account and send it from there.
Any clue when Apple Mail will be improved? Simple tasks it can't seem to perform. With the iMac raved about for its graphics, find it hard to believe that I can't insert my .gif with my name being written by a rose. It's at those moments that I fire up the PC and use IncrediMail.
    Thank you.

Thank you for your encouraging post. Since calling Apple Care and the whiz in Apple Mail could only tell me how to forward one attachment, mind sharing how to forward more than one with text?
I'm not forwarding attachments with each e-mail I send - most of our friends share lovely e-mails with animal photos combined with text. One yesterday had 8 photos but when I tried to forward it, I get the blue boxes.
I tried using the forward and then the Message, forward as attachment, but still just the blue box with a question mark in it. If there is something "hidden", it sure isn't in "The Missing Manual" books and neither is tech support aware of it.
    Mind sharing? Thank you.
How about changing the color default for outgoing messages? Tried everything and tech support couldn't solve that one either. It's all black; then highlight and then select a color.
Wonderful to 'bump' into someone that knows these answers - sure
    appreciate your help.

  • ICloud emails sent from apple mail or iPhone 3gs never arrives, works fine when sent from iCloud website

The ony place I have been able to send and receive email since the launch of iCloud has been the icloud website. I wasn't able to send email from my iphone 3gs or apple mail at all until today, now it finally appears to let me send email but it never arrives to its destination.
I can send an email from the icloud website without issue, and email sent from my icloud account using my iphone 3gs and apple mail seems to send fine and without error but who knows where it goes.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
    Thanks!
    Charles

I figured out how to fix it... if anyone else has this problem, go to Outlook > Preferences > Accounts > select the IMAP account > Advanced > Folders and for "Store Sent Messages in this Folder:" select "Sent Messages (Server)."

  • Cannot get or send mail using Apple Mail on iPhone and iPad

Everyone in my household cannot get or send mail on their Apple Mail for iPad and iPhone. We all get the same message: "The user name or password for [account] is incorrect." This just started happening yesterday afternoon. No problems before that. I called my hosting company and Apple, and both blamed the other. My Apple system is always updated, so I have the latest version of Maverick. Had no problems with it up until now.
However, I awoke this morning to find downloaded emails in the same program, but when I go to "get mail," it says the same thing, and still won't allow me to send or receive.
Here's the kicker. I also use Gmail with the exact same accounts (yes, I need both since Apple Mail does things that Gmail doesn't, and vice versa). No problem! I get all my emails and can send with no problem. So, my hosting company claims it can't be them (makes sense). It only happens using Apple Mail, and I have several email addresses. None of them work (other than the strange phenomena of suddenly getting some of them downloaded for no apparent reason).
What do I do from here? I've changed passwords, deleted and tried to set up my emails, only to get the message that they probably will not work. And they don't. I have shut down and restarted my iPad and iPhone, to no avail.
Thank god for my Gmail account, or my business would be closed.
Again, this is happening on four devices in my home: 2 iPads and 2 iPhones.

I have a comcast account I use on my phone and use it for receiving and sending mail. When you look at the account in settings, you need to check each of these
    incoming mail server: mail.comcast.net
username: the part of your email address before the @
    password: your password
    outgoing mail server: smtp.comcast.net
    Under Advanced
    Use SSL: On
    Authentication: Password
    Server Port: 995
If you cannot make it work from changing settings in the account, delete the account and start over. Use the "Other" setting when starting the account. It is a POP3 account and make the entries I gave you. Once you do that, it should check the entries and validate the account. You shouldn't have any trouble from there. Those settings will work from either the iPhone on cell, or wireless. Mine will even work when I'm at home on my wireless there, which is on the Comcast network.
    Hope that helps you.

  • Cannot send mail from apple mail or outlook- HELP- tried everything on Google- nothing works!

I have been a PC for years so I am not sure what to do here and there is no tutorial that makes any sense on google.
Someone please help me before I burst into flames!
