ADSL bandwidth drop off (can't run "Further Diagno...

Hi, 
In the last few weeks (I didn't notice issues over Christmas hols) my bandwidth has degraded considerably.  I'm on a rural ADSL+ exchange, but quite close to the exchange (about 0.5 miles) and my copper seems to be in reasonable nick.  
My profile (I think that's what it is - 448 / 8128 
The basic (wholesale and retail) diagnostic tests show about 6-7 Mbps...but I suspect this is just between me and the exchange. 
Trying to run the wholesale "Further Diagnostics" test constantly gives an error: "
The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider."
Running a variety of 3rd party bandwidth testing tools I'm seeing between 1-3Mbs (but there are obviously many varialbles).  The best indication that there is a REAL (rather than percieved) degradation is my Ookla history... a few months ago it was constantly showing +5Mbps.  Now it is between 1 and 1.5 Mbps.
Any suggestions on getting BT Wholesale "Further Diagnostics" to work?  Is a HOT VP likely to have happened so quickly?
I work from home and what was highly productive, has become alarmingly close to impractical and it's not like I can switch providers!!!  Please help!!

there is no way to tell if profile ok without the results of btspeedtester diagnostic test  with your download speed below 2mb that could suggest that your profile is 2mb and may be stuck especially as you now have 5 days conenction time and profile should have reset to correct level of 7.15mb by now
if conghestion you would expect download speed to be 6mb during the day at off peak and lower at night

  • Phaser 3250DN drops off network after printing one or two pages

    I have a Phaser 3250DN printer that has started dropping off the network after switched on and printing one or two pages.  If I power cycle the printer, it comes back online, but then drops off the network again almost immediately so I can't print any more pages.  The printer fails to respond to pings while in this state.  The printer is 4 years old but has had >extremely< light usage.  We've printed about one thousand pages total and is only turned on when we want to print something so most of the time it's physically powered off.

    Network drop-offs can occur for a variety of reasons and be triggered by a variety of causes. You may want to make sure you are using the latest software release on the product, as well as check the network firewall configuration settings. In addition, sometimes disabling unused networking protocols can reduce traffic the device is exposed to and ease the burden if traffic volume is what is shutting down the NIC.
    Another thing to consider would be the network topography itself; make sure the device is on a subnet exposed to minimal broadcast/multicast traffic.
    Finally, you can verify the device itself is physically functional by testing it with a laptop and crossover cable. If the drop-off behavior occurs while connected directly to another single computer, it may be indicative of an issue with the main board or hard drive.

    What you are seeing is a kernel panic, often but not always connected with a hardware or peripheral issue, so, unplug everything except mouse and  keyboard, reboot and hold the shift key as soon as your hear the chime, continue holding it until you see the Apple Icon and spinning progress indicator, then post back.
    It will take noticeably longer than normal to start.

    Express replacement is generally handled through the mail. They ship you a phone and a box and you send the old one back. However, you can also take the old phone to the Apple store and they can replace it in the store. That would be much easier and less expensive than the express service unless it is that much trouble for you to drive to the Apple store.

    You can, but you'll need to expand your cabling a bit.
    You'll need to get an intermediate ethernet hub, switch, or router. That device sits alone, with the Mac, your printer, and your modem/LAN plugged into it.
    If you are already using a router, either separate or in combination with the modem (many modems have a built-in router), then you just need a hub or switch.
    I use an ethernet switch (10/100/1000) to let both my Macs (a 2010 iMac and an elderly G4 DA model) use my HP4000n printer and my modem. The ethernet switch is a passive device, meaning there's no setup nor instructing it required - it's truly plug-and-play. All four items (two Macs, printer, and modem) are plugged into it via ethernet; both Macs have full-time independent access to the printer and the modem.

    You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

    May or May not be related but I have a hunch it is. This has been around on my Laptop for about a year every since a botched iTunes Quicktime install. Never have been able to get iTunes to run, or update Quicktime from an early version 6. Finally got Quicktime updated and installed through apple updater today. It errored similar to the error you posted except it suggested using tools, download only and manual install from the Apple Updater Menu. Quicktime worked, iTunes didn't so I figured I'm tired of blowing it off and see what the fine people here at Support can offer-up.

    I have never seen anyone get in trouble for that, but it does say in the TOS that you can't run servers on your residential account.   I don't think they police that, but that could change in the future.  I have had fios for quite a few years, and then DSL with Verizon before that, and have never heard an instance where someone was cancelled for doing it.  So I guess do it at your own risk, or YMMV?       I would think they would give you a warning first before action anyway, I know for a fact they give you a couple warnings even on copy right infringements, so I could imagine that they would give you warnings here to.
