ADSL - Slow speed now been stuck at around 28kbps ...

We usually get up to 2.5MB ADSL speeds but at the moment we get around 28k which seems to be consistant and unbearable.
Or configuration is as follows,
Hub v3 is plugged directly into the master socket.
Phone is on the extension with a filter on the line.
Taking a look in the event log in the BT Home Hub for the last connection we see,
18:21:08, 07 Apr.
(55036.570000) DSL noise margin: 5.90 dB upstream, 6.20 dB downstream
18:21:07, 07 Apr.
(55035.410000) DSL line rate: 911 Kbps upstream, 280 Kbps downstream
4. Board version:
BT Home Hub 3.0A
5. ADSL uptime:
2 days, 03:47:19
6. Bandwidth:
911 / 280
7. Data sent/received:
0.1 / 1.1
To try and remedy this we cycled through the following,
Re-started the hub - no change
Took out the BT Accelerator filter on the master socket, thinking it may be faulty - no change
Changed the filter for another one on the extension phone line thinking it may be faulty - no change
Plugged the Hub directly into the Test Socket - no signal
The broadband speedtest gave the following
"We haven't been able to complete the speed test at this time. This may be due to a problem with the speed tester, or your line may be running very slowly."
Any other Ideas welcome.
Thanks,

So I am performing the ultimate Broadband test - Plugging the HUB directly into the test socket with a filter connected between the socket and the HUB.
I reset the router to get a clean start.

Running the Broadband Speedtest produces the following,
“We haven't been able to complete the speed test at this time. This may be due to a problem with the speed tester, or your line may be running very slowly. “
We then ran the following -  http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/
And got,
Download Speed(Mpbs) 0.13
Upload Speed(Mpbs) 0.42
Ping Latency(ms) 0.00
At best we seem to get - Download Speed(Mpbs) 0.25
Connecting directly to the test socket has made no difference. The broadband continues to be abysmally slow.
I would ask BT to kindly reset our profile if indeed this could be done on the line to improve the speed, i will then recheck again?

  • Slow speeds now, has my IP profile been lowered?

My broadband has been fine for the past 2 years with a download speed of average 1.3MBs (1300kbp/s)
There has been absolutely no changes to the environment in the house, no extensions.
My Router is connected to the ADSL filter, connected to the master socket face plate.
On June 2nd around 22:00 BST I noticed very high latency and disconnections on my Broadband.
I did the usually by resetting the router, waiting a couple of minutes are restart. However that didn't fix the issue.
I picked up the house phone and noticed there was a LOT of noise on the dialtone, I tried the 17070 quiet liine test and same again, a lot of noise.
So I called up the BT Broadband helpdesk and spoke to a lady in India, had a long conversation with her running a few line tests and concluding there was no issue on the BT circuit side.
So I decided to leave it and hope for the best that it would fix itself, the next morning latency is fine back to normal (pinging 4.2.2.2 <40ms) and BB is stable with no disconnects.
However my BB speeds appeared to have dropped to about 700kbp/s tops, has BT lowered my IP profile to stabalise the line??
Can someone advise? Here are my stats:

  • ADSL slow speed

Hi i currently use aol on a bt line, we recently had a engineer ou who found a fault on the bt side as the line just went and all you could hear was a echo engineer rectified the fault.
Up until about 3 days ago we were getting around 1mbps then all of a sudden we started getting speeds of around 0.222 mbps then 0.434 mbps then yesterday it was around 800 mbps but today its around 300 mbps.  There has been a lot of bt vans around our area could it be bt as there are a number of new houses being built and a lot are complete.
I thought it may be the computer so i accessed broadband speed check through a laptop and ps3 but it is still the same,we use a wireless router and also only use 1 adsl filter for the phone line and broadband.
We have also noted that when we use our phone there appears that someone puts the phone down at the other end but our line is exclusive to us help would be very much appreciated.

    Hi guysie,
Unfortunatly we are unable to give support to non BT Retail Customers. You will need to talk to your communication provider.
If your a AOL Customer then please visit: http://www.aolbroadband.co.uk/help/guides/beginners-guide.html
BT Retail (a communication provider like aol, sky, talktalk, ect..) do not maintain your line and exchange this is done by Openreach (a BTplc Group Company). Openreach and BT Retail are seperate companies.
If you need to contact Openreach this can ONLY be done by contacting your communication provider.
Hope you get it fixed soon,
    cheers
I'm no expert, so please correct me if I'm wrong

  • Fixed rate / adsl | slow speed connection

    Hi guys
Around 2 weeks ago I've installed my "Unlimited Broadband" 16 Mbps BT package. I'm connected to the main socket, I tried both filters, I tested speed on various speed tests on both wifi and ethernet and never exceeded 2 Mbps. My router is BT Home Hub 4.
It seems to me that I'm experiencing fixed rate connection speed instead of the one I'm paying for..

I agree with you that for some reason some customers do get on adsl2 right from the outset even though conenction speed is <8mb - that's wholesale for you  a rule unto themselves very similar to openreach

    Hi Eric Ferguson,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For troubleshooting on this, take a look at this article:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

Help!! I'm using a Mid 2012 MBP retina 2.3Ghz i7 with 8GB of ram 256SSD. for the past 2 years my write speeds has been consistently on 400MB/s and up via black magic test. but now it only have 100MB/s going down to 80MB/s. what should I do???? I have already cleaned and even restored my MBP still it's on 100MB/s. please help. I have to finish tasks on a timely manner.

No. This requires completely repartitioning the SSD. You can do that only by using the Network Recovery method or the method I outlined. My method preserves all your data and doesn't require doing a slow Network Recovery. But if you wish to do that instead. The purpose of the whole exercise is to "clean" the SSD of garbage collected during use that tends to cause the SSD to slow down as you've described.
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button. Set Zero Data - one-pass, click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Reset hub and now getting extremely slow speeds...

    Hi there,
So I have had bt broadband for 3 months and had nothing but problems. The speed is very slow, though I do live in a rural area so somewhat to be expected. However in the evenings I have noticed I can get extremely high pings (1000+) and slow speeds (below 0.5 mbps).
Recently however my usual daytime speeds of around 1.2 mbps shot up to around 3 mbps, which to me is quite high! (compared to what I have been getting).
Though it dropped off a bit over the past few days (to around 2.2 mbps) it was still working ok, until last night when I reset my homehub as my sister was unable to connect to it at all.
Since then I have had nearly none existant speeds. Even getting on here was a mission. I am getting speeds of around 0.10 mbps, though my ping seems to vary wildly from around 50 all the way back up to silly numbers.
I attempted to use the bt speed test, but it told me it couldn't get a reading cos my line was too slow!
I did however get one eventually from BT wholesale as below. (it won't let me copy it in?...)
    Download speed (mbps): 0.14
    Upload speed (mbps): 0.35
    Ping Latency (ms): 69.63
    Speedtest.net give the following
Really getting fed up with the unreliable and slow connection. When added to the problems getting a line installed in the first place (it took 3 months!) and problems I have had in the past, I am seriously looking to see what other options I have, but there aren't many good providers that will set us up out here
Can anyone help me get a stable, reasonably fast connection?
    Thanks,
    Richard

I currently have the hub connected to the master socket via a filter. I have tried on the main socket and master socket with two different filters and nothing changed...
As for the btspeedtester, I was unable to successfully run that...It just says my connection may be too slow (no kidding!)
Finally, regarding the quiet line test...I don't actually have a phone at the moment. I only wanted broadband as I rarely make phone calls from the house and use my mobile. I am looking to get one for the sole purpose of fixing this issue (and ringing bt to have a whinge at them)
    Thanks,

  • Upgraded to ADSL2 now get slower speeds than befor...

    Hello
Well last Tuesday my line was upgraded to the 20mb ADSL2 and I was looking forward to some increase in bandwidth (even though before the upgrade my line was pumping 7mb most of the time which I was happy with)
Now for some reason I am getting slower speeds than before I upgraded. Something tells me I should not have bothered with the amount of effort it took to get the upgrade.
I cant understand why my DL is saying 3000+ and before upgrade it was reading 7500+
I have not reset my hub manually all disconnections have been done automatic.

My trackpad allows me to move the arrow around but when I tap on it to select continue it does nothing at all. The only thing else it will allow me to do is go thru the voice over tutorial by pressing escape. Please help me fix this I need to use my computer.

    Hi, teezbreezy64.
I found a couple of resources to help troubleshoot the issue you are experiencing. The first is this article named Intel-based Mac notebooks: Troubleshooting unresponsive trackpad issues found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1248.
Try disconnecting the MagSafe connector from the computer and check the trackpad function. If the trackpad becomes responsive again, improper grounding may be the issue.
If a two-prong AC plug is being used with the power adapter, try using the three-prong power cable that shipped with your computer and plug it into a grounded outlet.
If the issue persists, make sure the third prong is present and do not use an adapter to enable the three-prong adapter to be used in a two-prong outlet. Note that the ground in the three-prong outlet may not be connected. This is common in older homes or buildings with replaced outlets. In these situations, the three-prong power cable will not improve trackpad responsiveness.
If a grounded outlet is not available, rest your palm on the palm rest when using the trackpad. This should enable the trackpad to function properly.
If that does not resolve the issue then I recommend resetting the SMC on your computer. Here is an article on how to do that:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

Ipod classic 160GB very slow sync and cannot connect to itunes store windows 7 ansd itunes 10.6.0.40. I have now been trying for 3 weeks to restore my iPod. Really frustrated, any ideas would be welcome.

Cured the problem! Reinstalled an earlier version of itunes from oldapps.com (version 10) now everything works as it should. I would suggest that if you are experiencing these problems that you do the same. I must say that it is a brave business decision on behalf of apple to effectively lock out all windows 7 users from their products and sales channels and I can only wish them luck in this very shortsighted policy.

Bought 4th Gen 3TB TC - streaming TV over the internet is now so slow and now is constantly buffering.  It seems the Airport Utility is always 'searching for new networks' - don't know if this is the problem.  It's not the internet speed as checked that.  I took my old router upstairs and was streaming TV via my ipad seamlessly - the same program via the TC was constantly buffering.
I just expected to be able to plug in the TC, so a simple set-up and experience wireless both upstairs and downstairs in my house.  For some reason the range is low and speed veru disappointing.
I am far from being an IT expert but I would welcome advice about setting up this TC so we can enjoy the product as it was designed.  Please HELP!

No silver bullet........but my suggestions may drive you in the right direction.
    1.  Unplug the power cable from the TC and wait 10-15 minutes before powering back up.   Seriously wait!
Proceed to #2 if this dosen't help.
    2.  Unplug the power cable from the TC, ubplug the power cable from your Broadband Modem (assuming it's a cable modem), disconnect ethernet, and cable from modem.
2a.  Wait 10-15 minutes then re-connect cable, ethernet, and power back to modem (your modem should power up unless you have a power switch)  wait for all the modem lights to come on EXCEPT activity.
2b.  Connect ethernet from modem to TC, and plug in the power cable to TC.
Proceed to #3 if this dosen't help.
