ADSL socket fitted - now extensions don't work

Hopefully someone can help - BT don't seem to be able to!
Problems with very slow Broadband speed solved by engineer replacing main socket with ADSL V1.0 (improved speed slightly). Wasn't tilll after he left I realised none of my extensions worked.
After many emails & hours on the phone to BT I was told to put old socket back on! Have done this and extensions now work but broadband speed back to original - very slow.
Why doesn't ADSL socket work with extensions? The same wires are involved in same terminals. Is there anytihing I can do to make extensions work? Extensions are, I think this is right term, star wired.

You can hardwire extensions from the BACK of an NTE5 faceplate,

If you want to hardwire a dedicated ADSL extension, then for maximum quality use either cat5e or cat6 ethernet quality cable. (as explained in the last link above). Treat it gently, and do not use staples but use slightly oversized cable clips, don't hit the cable with the hammer, and don't take the cable round sharp bends at a right angle, use radial curves - it is fragile. It will give you very good results. I am a customer of the above firm, and they supply good kit. I have no financial interest in recommending them.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
It might also be a good idea to contact Square for assistance.

Clear Safari. Close Safari. Reset your iPad.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data.
To close an app, drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the Safari app then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Extensions don't work with ff4

A bunch of my extensions that are supposed to work with FireFox4 just don't work at all. I've lost NoScript, ForecastFox, AdBlock Plus, Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar, Toolbar Buttons, and the SiteAdvisor plugin. I have the latest versions of all of these and they are supposed to work with FireFox. What can I do to get these back?! They're the reason why I use FireFox!

Okay, I just rebooted my computer for the umpteenth time and ForecastFox and Roomy toolbar seem to be working, NoScript is partly working (still no icon) but the others are still no-shows.

Saved Pages document as PDF. Now hyperlinks don't work

After saving my newsletter in Pages 09 as a PDF (Print>Compress as PDF) some embedded hyperlinks don't work. Strangely enough, the links to an e-mail DO work, but links to a URL DO NOT. Why is this and what do I do to overcome this problem?

That's a fairly long thread I linked to. Did you get all the way down to this post with a screenshot? I see that others had the same problem you do & it took them a couple of tries to get it working. I would be nice to be able to see what you're doing (or not doing), but we have to make do with words & screenshots.

S3 - KitKat update now headphones don't work

Like a lot of us I have been having various battery issues (draining quickly, hard to charge & hot battery) with my Galaxy S3 since the Kit Kat update came to town but I am also having a problem with headphones too. I use headphones to listen to music and also as a hands free to speak while on calls. After the latest update the microphone on my headphones wouldn't work (these are the Samsung headphones that came with the phone), music plays fine but people cannot hear me when I am on a call. I tried other headphones as well and those don't work either. Not loving this update at all...

AE upgrade now presets don't work?

Just recently upgrade my AE via the desktop ap (I have full CC) and now my animation presets won't work? I get an error box

I am trying to get the presets out of Bridge - do I need to also upgrade bridge? I can't see an upgrade for it on my desktop ap.

Phil, a specific bug was fixed in After Effects CC 2014.2 (13.2) that prevented application of animation presets from Bridge on any OS. I can confirm that this bug was fixed on both Mac OS and Windows.
You're likely seeing a different cause of the same problem. Two questions:
1. What version of Bridge is installed on your computer?
2. In Bridge, go to Preferences > Startup Scripts. In this dialog is After Effects CC 2014 listed, and is it enabled? If it is not present or enabled, that would explain the problem. A reinstall of Bridge and then After Effects will usually restore the proper scripts, though if you've already done so then I suspect that something may be failing with your install configuration. If you are using custom permissions on your student machines, that could be interfering with the script either being installed or initialized as expected. You'll probably want to contact technical support for help with that.
One further note: although browsing animation presets in Bridge provides a larger interface, it's not the recommended method. The Effects & Presets panel inside of After Effects is the recommended path for browsing and applying presets. Bridge does provide animated previews for the presets included with After Effects, not user-created presets; therefore it is of limited utility. The Effects & Presets panel is faster to use and easier to search.

Compiled JSPs With Jasper - Now Includes don't work

I am using a template page (index.jsp) that includes other jsp pages to fill the body of the page. Previously, I had my index.jsp page as the root document and the other jsp's in a 'jsp' subfolder. To include the other jsp's, I was using hyperlinks like this:
where 'XXXX' is the name of the jsp page without the '.jsp' extension.
So, in the index.jsp page, I had the following line of code that included the jsp pages:

pageContext.include("/jsp/" + include + ".jsp"); // include is the 'page' request parameter.
%>
This has worked flawlessly up to this point. However, now I want to precompile all JSP pages using Ant and Jasper as this is a distributed app and I don't want to ship jsp pages. I compiled the pages and updated the web.xml file with the new mappings. Now the index.jsp page (servlet) displays but does not include the compiled jsp pages. Will the same link to a jsp page use the servlet mappings in the web.xml file to map to the new servlet?
I also tried the following with the same result:
request.getRequestDispatcher("/jsp/" + include + ".jsp").include(request,response);
Can someone suggest a solution? How can I get the compiled jsp's (servlets) to be included and displayed in the same way they were when used as jsp pages?

Well, good news and bad news....
I got the includes to work by changing my index.jsp page to use the following:
<jsp:include page="<%=includePage%>" flush="true"/>
instead of:
pageContext.include("/jsp/" + include + ".jsp");
This seems to work.
However, this has uncovered another issue. Now none of the graphics for the page display. So I am left with a page that has broken images links all over it. Does anyone know how to get around this? All my links follow the format:
<img src="/images/...
so they should resolve to the base directory, then 'images' right? When I look at the properties for each broken image, they have the correct path... does anyone know why they wouldn't display? What do I need to do to allow the servlets to display the images properly like the jsp pages did?

Calls worked through Mac and from iPhone and Now Suddenly Don't Work at All

After Monday's update, I was able to make and receive calls through my iPad 3 and iMac (about a year old) with no problems at all. Matter of fact, it was a little annoying to have all three devices ringing whenever I received a call. Then mid-week, this feature did not work at all.
What I've Done:
1) I've gone through the set-up guides and now my FaceTime doesn't even show the option to set-up this feature.
2) I've signed out of FaceTime on both devices multiple times.
3) I signed all the devices in on my iCloud e-mail to ensure they are on the same page.
Now phone number don't even show the option to call when I was freely making phone calls just a few days ago from my Mac, a feature I love. It's as if the settings don't even reflect it's possible to set-up this feature. On the FaceTime settings it doesn't even have the check box for allowing calls to be connected through.
Please help.

Extensions don't work.:(

Hey everyone.
We live in a new-build flat. It has the master socket downstairs near the front door (we live in a flat that has our own front door to outside and then stairs to our flat). We also have an extension downstairs near the front door and an extension upstairs.
BT have said that they've connected us at the exchange but only our master socket works. This isn't viable having everything set up down there because there isn't a plug socket next to the master socket and the wire is stretched out below the stairs.
BT have arranged for an engineer to come out on Friday (as they said we can be connected at the exchange and then they said that an engineer has to come out! Which is it? ). and I was wondering if they would sort the extensions out so we can plug in our router upstairs? I'm disabled and it being downstairs is really not a viable option in the long run.

Its Openreach who will visit if needed, but if your phone works in the master socket, that is as far as they can go. Anything past that point is your responsibility.
If the extension wires have simply been accidently disconnected, then the Openreach technician may reconnect them for you, if you ask nicely
They may even resite the master socket to the upstairs, if you have no need for the socket downstairs.
You could ask BT to send someone to sort out your internal wiring, but they would charge for it. Or you could get someone else to do the work in your flat, provided they are competent.

Upgraded to Mac OS 10.6 and now my canon printer and doesn't work .
I installed the print drivers from both Apple and Canon, received this message that says this extension is installed incorrectly:
system/Library/Extensions/CNQL4801_ClassicNotSeize.kext
Have checked the boards and net , but with no solution... help !

That is most likely a Classic (OS 9) extension file that requires Rosetta to work in OS 10.6. If you are using the latest Canon driver then you may not need it as users state in this Apple forum thread.

I can't update my apps - now they don't work at all

I don't really use apps on my blackberry but there are two that I use everyday, these are twitter and whatsapp . I don't know if they need updating but they have just stopped working all together, this has happened before but updating them seems to fix it. Now I can't get on to the app world to do this because is says that it needs wifi but I don't have this. Is there any way that I can get onto the app world just using the mobile Internet because this seems like such a silly idea for the people that don't have wifi!

At Options > Device > Application Management, what version of AppWorld do you have installed?
You can delete it there.

New software downloaded and now emails don't work?

Just downloaded new software and I can't get my emails to come through - keeps saying cannot connect to server? My hotmail account worked but my work email account (exchange) didn't? Any ideas?

Sorry to be basic - I know not too much about PCs unfortunately - but how do I run the diagnostic test ? If it is within iTunes then I can't do it as I can't open it in the first place, but if there is a different command I can use to run the diagnostics then please let me know it.
I have confused the issue somewhat as well - apologies. It is a new CD writer I have installed - not any sort of hard drive. My PC does have two hard drives installed as I added an additional one once I installed iTunes as it was overloading the memory. The two drives have been working fine in tandem since.
The new CD Writer replaces the original one from the PC which I suspect had grown old and tired. All I have done if physically put the CD Writer inside the PC box, and switched over the power cable and data cable from the (now redundant) old CD Writer, and in to the new one.
Hope that clarifies, and please let me know how to run the further testing you mention in order that I can post the results.
