ADSL WAN not connecting on Cisco 836

I am having trouble getting my 836 router to connect to my ISP (Virgin UK. All settings are ok and have checked with the ISP. Also it says that the actual WAN port (RJ-11) is down even though a cable is present and connected properly.
It connects directly into an ADSL filter and then into the phone line which i have tested using a different modem and it connects just fine. I've read somewhere i may need an ADSL splitter too.
Any thoguhts on this would be greatfully received. Thanks

If the service you are receiving is ADSL over ISDN, the Cisco 836 router should work fine, but if it is ADSL over POTS then the Cisco836 is not compatible. Check out the following troubleshooting link, hope this helps :

  • MacBook Pro will not connect to Cisco Wireless Network

I have just bought a brand new MacBook Pro, running Leopard (OSX 10.5.1) and I just cannot get it to connect to the Wireless Network at my workplace.
The MBP connects to wireless network and authenticates just fine, but will not obtain an IP address from the DHCP server.
The wireless network consists of 16 Cisco Aironet 1200 Access Points controlled by a Cisco Wireless Network Controller. It does not broadcast its SSID and is WEP 128-bit hex protected.
Changing the network from WEP to WPA is out of the question for me as this is under the control of my customers IT Department and they do not have any problems with their PCs connecting to the network. It appears to be an Apple issue.
For reference, my old Vaio PC, my Nokia N95 and my iPod Touch ALL connect to the same wireless network without any problems whatsoever, first time, every time!
If I boot into Windows XP from my Boot Camp partition, XP can connect wirelessly to the network without any problems, so it is not MacBook hardware related...
It has to be a bug in Mac OSX... doesn't it?!?
Things I have already tried (following suggestions on many forums):
    * Switching Airport off/on
    * Deleting various network-related Plist files and rebooting
    * Manually assigning an IP Address (not really permitted but doesn't work anyway!)
    * Disabling all network adaptors except Airport
AP Grapher shows that the MBP is connected to the wireless network, at good strength, and packets are being sent and received, but Internet Access is not possible as no IP Address has been assigned. Instead, my MBP shows a 169.* IP Address (self-assigned). It should be a 10.1.255.* address.
Can anybody please help? Thank you.

i posted this same reply elsewhere because it worked for me for my Buffalo wireless router: try manually setting your IP address instead of relying on DHCP, which sometimes (I don't know why) doesn't work well with Macs. It's a good get around. I am a happy Mac user but nothing is perfect on earth, and when the Mac gives problems, it does give a lot of frustration. Macs are not as easy to troubleshoot as Win because a Mac is built to be user friendly(and it works most of the time), meaning a lot of the background computing stuff is hidden away from users to avoid user accidentally upsetting some settings.
Unfortunately, the highly automated troubleshooting wizards provided by OS X are not perfect so when these software wizards fail to resolve the problem, like my Network Diagnostics, I have to spend more time tinkering around. There's "Terminal" of course but then most of us, especially PC converts to Macs, don't know how to use it.
You should also try updating your MBP, see if there are any new updates being released.

  • 1800 not connecting to Cisco Config Assistant

    Hello,
I have Cisco Config Assistant running in my server room, i am able to connect my ESW 520 switch without any issue.
When I goes to connect to my 1800 Router my admin account with pirv 15 on it does not work.
If anyone can help me find what is missing in my config id be very appreciative.

I run CUVA 2.2.2.0 on Windows 7 x64.  It works fine with my 7975 and IP Communicator.  Earlier versions didnt have the x64 CDP driver for win7 which is why it couldnt see the phone.
You mention that you're running on a UC560 but on a different handset than you previously had while in a working state.
Have you checked the UC config to ensure "video" is enabled on that "ephone"?  Should see the camera icon at the bottom right of your Phone screen if it's enabled.

  • Issues with SmartPhones not connecting to Cisco LWAP infrastructure

Has anyone observed any issues in getting wifi-enabled smartphones to connect to the Cisco LWAP wireless infrastructure?
In this particular case, the system is operating essentially as a hot-spot (i.e.: No layer 2 security between the LWAP and the smartphone.)
One of the SmartPhone models having problems is the Samsung i730.
I found an FAQ at the Verizon site (attached):
    Exerpt from:
    http://support.vzw.com/devices/samsung_sch-i730/faq.html#item66 <http://support.vzw.com/devices/samsung_sch-i730/faq.html#item66>
"Why doesn't the i730 connect to my wireless access point (AP) /router?
The i730 supports wireless access points that transmit a 128bit preamble not 130bit preamble. Some wireless access points send a 130bit (i.e. Cisco, Linksys, etc). To address this issue you can upgrade the firmware in your wireless access point by simply going to the wireless access point manufacturer's website and downloading the latest firmware and upgrade instructions."
    Full article:
    http://support.vzw.com/devices/samsung_sch-i730/faq.html <http://support.vzw.com/devices/samsung_sch-i730/faq.html>
I am wondering what version of LWAP firmware would address the 128-bit issue.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    John

Try out the latest firmware for the controllers 4.0.206.0. This might solve the issue.

  • Vizio E3D320VX TV will not connect to Cisco Linksys E4200V2 5Ghz N-band

Hi just got a Vizio E3D320VX TV and it will connect to my E4200V2 2.4Ghz N-band, but not the 5Ghz N-band. Both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz are configured virtually identical: 1) both are Wireless-N Only, 2) both auto channel width, 3) both WPA2 Personal security, 4) both SSID broadcast disable.
The only differences are: 1) obviously the SSIDs and 2) I manually set the 2.4Ghz channel to the least used in my area. I kept the 5Ghz channel auto.
To connect to 2.4Ghz, in the Vizio TV network settings, I left their settings to Auto (DHCP), and put in the SSID name. The TV searches for it, sees that it's WPA2PSK and asks for the password. Put it in and boom it works.
When I try on 5Ghz (again on "Auto"/DHCP for the TV), I put in the SSID, and the TV "thinks" about it for awhile, then says something like "Cannot connect, please try another Wireless Access Point". It never gets to the point where it asks for the WPA2 password.
The TV is downstairs and the E4200V2 is upstairs, but I used my iPad2 in the same room and it connects to the 5Ghz with no problem. But just in case the TV has a 5Ghz reception problem, I set the channel width to wide/40Mhz and bumped tried a couple of the higher channels (149 and 161), and it still won't connect.
I also went into Administration and turned on logging to try to see what is happening when the TV tries to connect, but for some reason nothing is logging, not even my other devices' traffic -- very strange (yes I hit Save Settings after enabling logging).
I saw another post about a Vizio Blu-ray player that was having streaming problems, and the suggestion there was to adjust the MTU, but I'm guessing that's irrelevant to my issue.
Anything else I can try to try to get it to connect? Thx, John.

    Hello,
Try the one suggested by jlbjlb, name the 2 bands differently as well as the wireless channel so we can do some isolation.
For the wireless channel don't use auto, you can play around with 40MHz or 20Mhz then try connecting again.
So you'll be sure also of the adapter's wireless capability is its dual or not built in to it, perhaps you could ask the manufacturer.

  • UC320W Not connecting to ADSL Using Netgear DM111P

Hi all, I have a UC320W conencted to a netgear modem that died.  I replaced it with a DM111P and the UC320W will not connect to the WAN.  I have tested the line etc and the modem connects fine when direct connected to a PC.  I have tried also a 2Wire Bigpond modem to no avail.
I am getting a solid ADSL light and the WAN connection does not come up.
I have checked the login details. They are correct.  I have changed the WAN connection type, restarted the UC and then back to PPoE and again nothing.
Have now been waiting on hold to Cisco support for 45 minutes and desparate to get this one back up as phones are off air.
Help please.  Is there an incompatibility issue with the UC320W and modems?

thanks for the quick reply. yes, I have most of these settings and tried to make sense of them (reading them from the Chinese status page on the other router, no access to settings from email or a support page).
However, the good news is, that I managed just now to get it working. So for referenece I think it might be useful to tell you what works, in case others have similar issues (unlikely, as this router/modem is not legally on sale in China):
    1. Firstly, most modems in China connect via RJ-45, not RJ11. I guess its kind of like having a cable router
    2. It appears to make a lot of difference what VPI/VCI settings you use. I tried different ones and I think this is were it may have started working.
    3. I also believe that a lot of China Unicoms ADSL service requires MAC cloning, as they often provide the initial hardware. So this may also be where it finally strated working for me.

  • MBP upgraded to Yosemite and now will not connect to Internet using a Cisco router

I Upgraded my MBP mid 2010 to Yosemite and now it will not connect to Internet using a system that involves typing in my user name and password in an auto pop up window provided by Cisco security systems. Before, using Mavericks, it worked perfectly: boot up MBP and the Cisco pop up auto loaded. Typed it my password and hey presto, connected to Internet. Now, zilch. There is nothing wrong with the Cisco cos my iPad connects ok, as do both my iPhone's.
the problem is with Yosemite therefore. Please help. I tried all the usual diags, etc to no avail.

Sounds like there could be some kind of compatibility issue between ICS and this Bluetooth device of yours. Is there any compatibility info from the manufacturer about which Android versions that's being supported?

  • Airport Express worked with previous ADSL modem, not working with new one

    hello all.
maybe the majority of you people won't be able to help me, since i am in Brazil.
    this is the story:
for the last 4 years i was a subscriber of the Speedy ADSL provider (in conjunction with the Terra content provider). the Sppedy service is part of the Telefonica telephone company and uses the regular telephone infrastructure to provide the ADSL signal thru telephone lines.
approximately 2 years ago i bought an Airport Express and set it up with the ADSL modem that Speedy provided to me. configuration was a breeze and it worked flawlessly since then.
as of last thursday (april 7th) i became a subscriber of the Ajato ADSL provider. the Ajato company is part of the TVA (cable tv) company and uses the TVA cable tv infrastructure to provide the ADSL signal.
the problem is: when i connect the Cisco DPC3000 ADSL modem to my Macbook via ethernet cable, i can surf the internet with Ajato with no problems. but when i connect the modem to my Airport Express (even though i have reset AE in order to clear the previous Speedy/Terra configuration), i get no internet in my home wireless network.
i know you guys don't have Ajato there, of course. but i suppose some of you might have faced similar problems in similar cable ADSL environments.
this said, any kind of help or hint is greatly appreciated.

First that Cisco DPC3000 is a cable modem, not a ADSL modem. You probably don't need the DSL configuration that you had before.
when i connect the modem to my Airport Express (even though i have reset AE in order to clear the previous Speedy/Terra configuration), i get no internet in my home wireless network.
How did you "reset" the AE? How is it configured now? You probably need a setting of "Connect Using:" "Ethernet", rather than the "PPPoE" setting you may have had before.
If everything else looks good, it's common to have to reset a modem when switching what device is connected to it. Try powering down the modem for a few minutes. If it has a reset switch, press that.

  • E4200 not connecting with Cradlepoint CBR450 set to bridge mode

I am trying to replace my Cradlepoint MBR1200 with a CBR450 in bridge mode, to let the E4200 take over all the WAP and DHCP handling, but having a hard time.
I set the CBR450 in bridge mode and when I connect it to my laptop it properly passes the IP info to my Mac and allows me to connect.  I then connect it to the E4200 WAN port with it set to get IP address automatically but nothing ever happens and I am never allowed traffic in/out over the WAN.
I *can* get internet access by leaving the CBR450 in normal mode (handling DHCP, etc) and then plugging it into the E4200 LAN port and having the E4200 set to bridge.
Any ideas why the E4200 WAN port is not getting the bridge info and allowing connection?  FWIW, works fine connecting to a DSL modem with the DSL model set to bridge mode at my other house.
CBR450 and E4200 both on latest firmwares.

When you configure/edit the Primary Lan on the CBR450 to IP pass through mode, change the lease time under DHCP Server tab to something very low, like 2 minutes. When in pass-through mode, the CBR450 still assigns the IP address from the aircard directly to the ethernet interface, but uses DHCP to do this. Sometimes when connecting to Cisco devices, it helps when the lease time is set this low.

I had the same problem.  The RV180W would not connect to an AT&T DSL connection using PPPoE (modem in bridge mode), or behind the DSL Modem/router with the DSL modem/router providing a dynamic IP to the RV180W or a cable modem (TimeWarner Roadrunner dynamic IP).  I upgraded the firmware yesterday and now the RV180W will connect to a dynamic WAN IP, but it still will not connect using PPPoE.
I have also noticed the admin interface is only accessible about 75% of the time.  When going to 192.168.1.1 the login prompts either don't come up or if they do, after logging in, the screen never fully loads after that.  I have to reboot the router to get it to work.
Also, the router has not yet pulled DNS from either the DSL or the cable modem.  I had to manually enter those addresses.
Any suggestions on the PPPoE issue?  Any thoughts as to why the admin interface is not always accessible or the DNS?
    Thank you,
    Ron

Hi Ron, thanks for using our forum, my name is Johnnatan and I am part of the Small business Support community. About your login issue I recommend you to use different browsers such as Mozilla, i.e 9.0 or superior, Safari, Opera etc. About the PPPoE question, basically you just need the username and the password provided by your ISP. Can you please reach out to our Small Business Support Center and open a Service Request to address this issue? One of our Engineers may be able to work with you and diagnose the root cause. You can find the appropriate contact information for SBSC in the below link. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/support/tsd_cisco_small_business_support_center_contacts.html

  • 6509 to ons 15454 showing not connect.

Were running into a problem moving from an oc48 to oc192. In our web enviornment we have a Front-end switch and a Back-end switch in two data centers that are 10 miles apart. Were running a "gigaman" betweent the two. On both ends we have cs6509's and were patched into the Gbic interface on the sup2's. This fiber is ran to are lec's ons 15454 which I have no visibility into. We are unable to get a connection on the 6509's. Were doing basic layer 2 trunking between the switches. Sbc tested from the fiber on the switch to a loop on the other switch and was able to test clean. This worked on the oc-48 but are switches were not connected to a cisco ons. Any suggestions would be apperciated. You can also email me at [email protected] or AIM jjt8572.

Have you checked that you have matched the physical media framing - e.g., LAN PHY needs to speak to LAN PHY (or WAN PHY to WAN PHY). Typically the ONS 15454 would be looking for a SONET frames (WAN PHY) while a Cisco 6509 would be sending 10 Gigabit Ethernet LAN frames (LAN PHY). That is, unless you specifically choose an interface for your 6509 such as the XENPAK-10GB-LW (10GBASE-LW XENPAK Module with WAN PHY for SMF). From that product's data sheet: "The Cisco 10GBASE-LW Module supports a link length of 10 kilometers on standard single-mode fiber (SMF) (G.652).
WAN-PHY is intended to allow the transport of 10 Gigabit Ethernet over a traditional SONET/SDH infrastructure. The purpose of WAN-PHY is to render 10 Gigabit Ethernet compatible with SONET STS-192c format and data rate, as defined by ANSI, as well as the SDH VC-4-64c container specified by ITU."
One can also use Cisco ONS transponder cards that will wrap LAN PHY framing in something like G.709 encapsulation to allow it to be transported through a DWDM network.
