If you have Acrobat, not Reader, you can make small edits to text with the "Select tool".
I've had the same problem with sending PDFs for editorial approval, as the person with the final say can't (all of a sudden) select text.
The main problem is that there is a setting in the Edit menu under Preferences | General (this is from using Acrobat version 9, I'm not sure about version 8 or 6, you'll have to look) and it is a check box labeled "Make hand tool select text & images". If that is checked, then it is enabled and you can select and make edits.
Your other problem is that OCR only takes a scanned image and creates selectable text from the image (the Optical Characters part of OCR) of the words. Some people don't know you can have a PDF of an image which has no selectable text but is all type and words, as it is all pixels (image). It is the difference between a MS-Word document (text) and a Photoshop document (pixels).
There might be other factors but the above are the most common.

    Hi,
Bug check 0x50 usually occurs after the installation of faulty hardware or in the event of failure of installed hardware (usually related to defective RAM, be it main memory, L2 RAM
    cache, or video RAM).
Another common cause is the installation of a faulty system service.
Antivirus software can also trigger this error, as can a corrupted NTFS volume.
Try the solution provided in this article:
    Bug Check 0x50: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff559023(v=vs.85).aspx
    And this one:
Stop error message in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2: "Stop error code 0x0000007E (SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED)" or "Stop error code 0x00000050 (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA)"

  • Approaching deadline for submission - OpenSPARC contest

    Hello All,
Just wanted to highlight that deadline for OpenSPARC contest (http://www.opensparc.net/community-innovation-awards-contest-rules.html) is fast approaching. Submissions must be turned in by June 30th to be eligible.
I have seen many interesting questions on this forum which leads me to believe that many of you are pursuing interesting lab and research work around OpenSPARC. This contest can give your work (and you, of course) a lot of visibility and a chance to win some serious money. For the students out there, this can be a significant resume booster. So do participate in the contest and turn in your work.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask in this forum.
    Thanks.

You can create the form in Acrobat or Designer as you probably know. Designer comes as a part of Acrobat. I tend to Acrobat for forms myself. As for a submission, the data should be fine since it can be imported to the form for print out. That makes it only an extra step of opening the form and importing. With the deadline, I hope the email submission works. It is a bit of a risk, but has been less of a problem with newer systems and such. In Acrobat, the submit button is created with the button tool and on the forms menu select add/edit field. Select the button you want (or add one) and go to the actions tab. Select submit a form under actions and enter the submit information. For a 1-time small use form, then you can use the submit full PDF and simply activate the PDF for Reader rights. For larger applications, the activation may be an issue under the license. The advantage of the activation here is that those folks who fill it out will be able to keep a copy, not just print it.
Hope those reminders help. Just got AA9 and that is the first time I have looked at the forms there. A bit different than AA8 and earlier! Bill

  • Microsoft Office 2004 Test Drive Question

    Hello all,
Please forgive me if this is the wrong forum, but I'm looking for help here... or possibly somebody has a forum elsewhere where I might ask this question:
I have recently purchased a brand new Macbook Pro.
    I installed Office 2004 (Student/Teacher Edition).
When I double-click on a document created by Word (from my PC that I transferred over), instead of my "real" Word 2004 opening the document... I get the Office 2004 Test Drive opening it...and a warning saying "I have 29 days remaining until it expires".
My question is: How can I either remove the Office 2004 Test Drive and/or get it so that my document is opened with the "real" Office, instead of the test drive?
As I said, I apologize if this is the wrong forum... but if you can please a) direct me to the correct forum or b) help me out with a link... I'd VERY much appreciate it.
    Thanks very much!
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you installed (used) the Trial version of Office then merely dragging the folder to the Trash won't do the trick. You will instead have to run the Office Uninstaller (in the /Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office/ folder) and completely remove both the Trial and the licensed version of Office including preferences. Then reinstall your licensed version. This is the only sure way of avoiding any conflicts between the two versions.
You were obviously pleased with the help provided by the other poster. Consider rewarding his/her effort:
Why reward points?(Quoted from Discussions Terms of Use.)
The reward system helps to increase community participation. When a community member gives you (or another member) a reward for providing helpful advice or a solution to their question, your accumulated points will increase your status level within the community.
Members may reward you with 5 points if they deem that your reply is helpful and 10 points if you post a solution to their issue. Likewise, when you mark a reply as Helpful or Solved in your own created topic, you will be awarding the respondent with the same point values.

  • GT80 Titan SLI Awarded Editors' Choice by Computer Shopper

The GT80 Titan SLI review is out from Computer Shopper, giving the Titan their Editor’s Choice Award! This beast of machine really out-performs the competition and re-defines the standards of a true desktop replacement notebook .
    Read more: http://www.computershopper.com/laptops/reviews/msi-gt80-titan-sli#review-body
    Pros:
    •   Cherry-switch keyboard (a laptop first)
    •   Clever touch pad placement and numeric-keypad implementation
    •   Field-leading SLI gaming graphics
    •   Above-average upgradeability
    Quotes:
    •   “MSI knows gamers, to be sure, and the Titan SLI was designed to max out the gaming power in a semi-portable form factor. And where it does compromise, it does so wisely.”
    •   “In that curious mixture of overkill and restraint, MSI succeeded with the GT80 Titan SLI, in its own way: You can’t buy a gaming laptop remotely like it from anyone else, and the graphics power for gaming—both on the 1080p screen and with external displays—is unparalleled among laptops at this writing.”
    •   “Typing on the GT80 Titan SLI keyboard was unlike any other laptop typing experience we’ve had, with very deep travel and quiet action as we typed.”
    •   “When we tested Nvidia’s desktop reference video card for the GeForce GTX 980, we attained a score of 10,803 in our 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark test. The dual GTX 980M SLI arrangement here rang up at 13,027 with the SLI running at full tilt, beating what we saw from the full desktop GTX 980 card by a goodly margin.”
    •   “Beyond the impressive networking mix, the audio subsystem is also a standout.”
    •   “There’s simply nothing else like it on the market today.”

  • Using 2004s Query in 3.x webtemplate

    Hello,
I came accross some a point in SAP help portal saying that "SAP Recommends not to use 2004s Queries and Query views in 3.x webtemplates."
Did any one of you used 2004s queries in 3.x webtemplates.
I have tested many 3.x templates with 2004s queries, so far I have not find any issue.
Did any one of you find issues, and why SAP recommends not use 2004s quries in 3.x templates.
I will award full points for any help on this.
    Thanks,
    Ramana

In SAP Net Weaver 2004s, new tools and a new Web runtime are available in the Business Explorer. However, the existing tools and the Web runtime from SAP BW 3.x are also delivered to guarantee a step-by-step, demand-oriented transition.
When using the various tools and runtimes, there are a few restrictions to note. Firstly, you need to differentiate between the existing tools from SAP BW 3.x and the new tools for SAP Net Weaver 2004s; secondly, there are technical restrictions within the new tools. The new BEx Analyzer from SAP Net Weaver 2004s uses the data provider format from SAP BW 3.x. The new data provider functions, which can be overridden at runtime (this mainly affects exceptions and conditions), can therefore not be used with the BEx Analyzer from SAP Net Weaver 2004s.
    Hope it Helps

  • Netweaver 2004s ABAP or JAVA?

I downloaded the 2004s preview with ABAP app server, but noticed two other distributions.  One was full Java and the other express Java.
In the Java distributions, is there still an ABAP development environment?  Or are the distributions with J2EE using Java instead of ABAP?
Sorry if this question is too "green".
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Smith,
I dont think we have the ABAP development enviornment in the JAVA distributions provided.
The links below will give you fairly a good idea about SAP NetWeaver 2004s:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/57/a21f407b402402e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
    /people/sap.user72/blog/2006/02/11/sap-netweaver-2004s--where-is-it-really-documented
and as i just saw the previous reply to your post which said that the sneak preview is with both java and abap stack.i have a small info for you  regarding the same.
SDN recently released 2 Sneak Preview products:
    - SAP NetWeaver 04 SP15 Full Java Edition
    - SAP NetWeaver 04s Full ABAP Edition (with Web Dynpro for ABAP)
for XI we need both the Java and the Abap stack and not just having them individually because of which you cannot use it for XI.That is, the Sneak Preview products contain either the JAVA or the ABAP stack but not both together.
The link below i guess will also help you learn more about the Sneak Preview products:
    http://www.howforge.com/news/sneap-preview-sap-netweaver-04-sp15-java-abap
I hope I have answered your query.

  • Performance of large tables with ADT columns

    Hello,
We are planning to build a large table ( 1 billion+ rows) with one of the columns being an Advanced Data Type (ADT) column. The ADT column will be based on a TYPE that will have approximately (250 attributes).
We are using Oracle 10g R2
Can you please tell me the following:
    1. How will Oracle store the data in the ADT column?
    2. Will the entire ADT record fit in one block?
    3. Is it still possible to partition a table on an attribute that is part of the ADT?
    4. How will the performace be affected if Oracle does a full table scan of such a table?
    5. How much space will Oracle take, if any, for storing a NULL in an ADT?
I think we can create indexes on the attribute of the ADT column. Please let me know if this is not true.
    Thanks for your help.

I agree with D.Morgan that object type with 250 attributes is doubtful.
I don't like object tables (tables with "row objects") too.
But, your table is a relational table with object column ("column object").
C.J.Date in An introduction to Database Systems (2004, page 885) says:
"... object/relational systems ... are, or should be, basically just relational systems
that support the relational domain concept (i.e., types) properly - in other words, true relational systems,
meaning in particular systems that allow users to define their own types."
    1. How will Oracle store the data in the ADT column?...
    For some answers see:
“OR(DBMS) or R(DBMS), That is the Question”

What happened to it, where do we find it? Is there an alternative download? According to the site FAQ, 2004.1 is now a part of NetWeaver, which is not helpful in our case.
I will appreciate if you can provide any information on where to get PI BASIS 2004.1, before we resort to inquiring SAP support directly.
In advance, thank you for your assistance.
    Regards,
    Don
P.S.: I will award points accordingly. Thanks again.
