Adtech Malware windows in Safari that won't close HELP!

I always have used Firefox. Recently I decided to use Safari as since I updated to Yosemite on my Imac and it's been slow since, it's a (Mid 2011 4gb Ram 2.7ghz I5 500 in Memory but only 1/3 used). I also use Pro Tools 11. Yosemite has caused some new issues with that running too. More CPU errors. I likely have to buy some RAM.
Having said that I've never had anything like this happen in Firefox. Currently Safari is frozen with this Adtech malware ad asking to call a 1800 #. If you hit OK it goes to more and more windows trying to get you to call this # but you can't operate any other part of Safari. You can only Quit.
Firefox runs just fine. I've deleted the Cache and all cookies but I'm in Fire fox. I want this Adtech thing gone. How do I get rid of that When I open Safari???
Thanks

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, close Safari, and then launch it with the Shift key held down. If that doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet.

Has anyone been having apps in the background that won't close? The tab that normally swiping up to close the app won't work and stays as a blank black screen showing the time, signal strength , and cell carrier at the top, but nothing else. I can't keep shutting my phone down all day to make this stop. Please help if you know why this happens and/or how to stop it or close the app

  • After updating to Yosemite, why will my windows in Safari and Microsoft Word close unexpectedly with no method of retrieval?

On two different occasions after updating to Yosemite this has happened. On the first occasion I had two documents open in Microsoft Word and after looking something up on Safari, attempted to go back to the two open documents. Microsoft Word was showing as open, but the documents were nowhere to be seen and I also could open nothing else and was forced to force quit without saving my work on those documents.
A similar thing occurred today with Safari. I had many tabs open in one window in Safari. I closed my laptop to move to another room, and upon opening my laptop again Safari was still open, but all my tabs of different research papers I had were gone. When I chose the "reopen all windows from last session" option, it reopened windows I had not had open for many days, and not the ones I had been working off that day.
This is extremely annoying and as a scientist, I was forced to once again look up the many papers I needed for a grant proposal that I had not yet copied down reference information for. Why is this happening?

You can "force quit" apps from your Apple icon menu top left in your screen.
And since you are running Lion, try disabling Resume.

  • There is a pop up on my safari that won't go away

i have a pop up on my safari saying that I need to call a toll free number to contact apple support because there is some sort of security issue. I tried clicking ok and x but that doesn't work. I then checked here and have seen that people have the same problem however, all the answers were for Macs. Does anyone know how to get rid of it on an iPhone 6?

If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, AdwareMedic, or Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

  • There are tabs with bookmarks showing up in the tab bar that won't close. Why do they come up and why can't I close them?

I can't close the bookmark tabs that show up automatically at the tab bar. I don't want them to open or show up. When they show up I can't close them and everything in the tab bar gets frozen. So I'm just stuck. Firefox won't even quit when this happens. How can disable these bookmark tabs from showing up. They are a nuisance.
I also need instruction on eliminating bookmarks that came with Firefox. I deleted them, but they showed up again.

If that message continues to appear, click here and run Adware Medic; the MacKeeper popups may also be produced by adware. You may need to use a different web browser.

  • Time reporting periods that won't close.

    Hi,
We have recently installed PPM 2013.  We are able to close time periods in the future but cannot do it for one in the past.  I click the SAVE button and nothing happens.  No confirmation and no error message.  When I move to another page,
the browser ask for a confirmation to leave the page.
Are there conditions that will prevent a time period from closing?  (ie unapproved timesheets, unsubmitted timesheets,...

Yes, this is a know bug and was fix in the latest service pack

  • Since updating Safari windows won't close

I updated to 10.4.11 on my G5 and now whenever I open a window in Safari, I can't close it. I tried apple-w ... nothing. I tried clicking the red button in the top left corner of the window ...nothing (although the green and yellow buttons still work fine).
    Anyone else having this problem?

A lot of people who had installed Taboo (a safari plug in that gives a warning when closing a window with multiple tabs open) have been having this problem.
This causes a conflict with Safari 3 and won't allow you to close windows. All you have to do is remove Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/Taboo!!
Fortunately the warning feature is included in Safari 3, making Taboo redundant.
Taboo worked so seamlessly that I had completely forgotten that I had it installed!!! If you are not sure, check the location above to see if the bundle is there and delete it if it is.
    hope it helps

  • Blank finder window won't close

When I click on the finder, a blank window always appears first. This window contains nothing and won't close. If I open a new finder window everything works fine operating like a normal finder window with all the choices. What gives?

Then, your com.apple.finder.plist file's mucked up, because with no Finder windows opened, clicking on the Finder's Dock icon should follow whatever you set in Finder's preferences->General. Move it out of your /Library/Preferences/ to the Desktop, OPTION-click & hold the Finder's Dock icon, select Relaunch, select Finder's Preferences->General->set an open option, close the window, and click on the Finder's Dock icon. Note that you'll have to reset all of Finder's preferences if this fixes things, ultimately deleting the moved plist file.

  • How do I unfreeze my ical? ical has an error message that won't go away even if I force quit.

Wondering how to get my ical running again? I have an error message that won't close and ical is unavailable. Error just says the server responded with an error. Happened after I cut and pasted a note into a reminder by accident...

Mine started doing this yesterday after attempting to install the most recent security update (im running Tiger OS 10.4.)
Took a while for me to remedy it but I found that by starting up from the CD that comes with the macbook (by holding 'c' as you switch on) and doing an Archive and Install (took 2 attempts as the first failed) it is working fine again. Installed the update by dragging it from the trash and clicking it and the Macbook seems good again.

  • Safari Hijacked and Certificates that won't go away.  Malware?

Four times over the last 4 or 5 months "something" hijacks Safari and freezes it.
The first 3 times I was in Google.   I clicked on a site, it would freeze Safari and I would get a message from an unrelated website telling me to call a number for Apple Support which was not Apple.
Each of those 3 times I called Apple Care and they went to Finder>Library> Cache and removed files from Launch Agents, Launch Daemons and Plug-ins.  That removed the problem.
This time I was in Words With Friends when a Certificate popped up for the website Secure.RubiconProject.Com.   I spent over an hour on the phone with Apple looking for bad files.  None were found but we couldn't get rid of the Certificate and Safari was frozen.   Also, WWF would keep crashing Safari.
The Apple guy had me install a 2 week free trial of Web Root antivirus.  It found some problems which it took care of.  When I went back to Words with Friends the Certificate popped up again but this time I clicked on it since Web Root would tell me if there was an issue.
The screen was blank but since then: 1.  No certificate and 2. an error message that was always across the top of WWF about having to reload the page was gone.  When I used Firefox to work on this problem with Apple, I would keep getting a message that said Firefox would not direct this to another page and I had to click an OK button.  That is gone.
I don't know why I keep getting this issue since each time it is different.   I told Apple guy that I had read that Apple doesn't need antivirus and in fact they can cause more problems than they help.   He said Apple has a Firewall but nothing for malware which is become more and more prevalent.  There are threads here about not needed anti viruses but I'm at a loss.
I have Apple Care for 2 more years but I don't want to keep calling them if I can find a solution to this.  I'm not tech savvy.   I would like an antivirus that is a one time fee.
    Advice please?

You may have inadvertently installed adware. Eradicating it is simple and you don't have to download or install anything to fix it.
Although adware relies upon deception, it does not get installed without your consent, and "anti-virus" utilities cannot prevent users from willfully installing garbage. Only you can do that, by recognizing adware's appearance, which is constantly changing as adware authors constantly attempt to thwart automatic means of detection.
For an explanation or how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended solution read How to install adware.
Webroot is garbage that won't help prevent adware. Uninstall it. Be sure to follow its uninstallation instructions.
I have Apple Care for 2 more years but I don't want to keep calling them if I can find a solution to this.
You should call them, as often as necessary. AppleCare is a service you paid for. Let them work for you. I suggest you express your displeasure regarding their inept recommendation to install Webroot. OS X's software firewall is also completely irrelevant to your concern.
