Adusting video input signal while capturing???

Hello
I'm running Final Cut HD and am having trouble adjusting my video input signal. Under "Clip Settings" in the Capture Tool there appear to be controls, but they are disabled and my scopes do not appear to be reading either.
Any thoughts on how to unlock these controls?
Thank you,
Bryan

You can only adjust video levels if you capture component or SDI with a capture card.
And Zeb, when people say FCP HD more often than not they mean the latest version. I know that FCP 4.5 was dubbed that, but people still hold onto that name.

  • Mute the input monitor while recording? Should be easy, right?

First off, here's an illustration of what I'm doing:
    http://www.thesoundofmachines.com/re-amp-image.jpg
I'm sending an already recorded guitar take through a cigar-box amp, then re-recording it back into a new track in the logic session at the same time.
I did search the forums & the user manual. I must be loosing it. How do I mute the input signal while it's being recorded? I need the input to be recorded, but not monitored. Otherwise, I'm drowning in a terrible feedback loop.
I turned off "software monitoring" to no avail. What am I missing?
    Thanks in advance...
    -Should Know This Stuff

Heya- take a look at this:
    http://www.thesoundofmachines.com/re-amp-image.jpg
You can see it's just a little Edirol USB interface.

I know! I need better! I just don't have extra money at the moment.
So any tips or suggestions? (other than "buy a new interface...")
    Thanks!

Hope you guys can help me solve this problem. Thank you.

as long as you take all the cables out one by one carfully without more then a few pounds of force with a slight wiggle as they come up its not that hard to do then take the whole PSU and the gpu to your friends house to see if it works
hell if you dont want to plumb the whole unit into his rig on the main 20/24 pin connector find the green cables pin and any neer by black ground cable and jump your psu with a paperclip in the wholes and just connected to your graphics card in his case and psu outside his case to only power your card and flip the power switch to turn it on quite easy (10 mins to do max)!

  • No sound while capturing video

how do i get audio (sound) while capturing video. I know about audio scrubbing and canvas playback for editing but while capturing video I am not getting sound.

During capturing, sound will not play through your computer's speakers. Many cameras will play it through their internal speakers or you can connect external speakers directly to your camera

  • Horizontal Lines while Capturing video in Premiere Elements 12

    Problem:
I have a Sony DCR-TRV80 where video is captured on Mini DV tape. It connects to my PC via FireWire. PC has i7 CPU, Win 7 64bit. 8gig ram, raid 0 hard disks, nvidia video card. Lots of hard disk space.
When I capture video, as it is captured, I get horizontal lines whenever there is motion (either a subject is moving OR the camera is moving). This is seen in the capture window of Premiere Elements 12
    The Project Settings:
I have tried several but the one that does not give me a warning is DV Standard 48khz & DV Widescreen 48khz. Both setting details show them as being interlaced (frame rate of 29.97 & size of 720h 480v).
Additionally, I have tried several other Project Settings and still get the same result.
    What I See:
When I am capturing the video, I see the horizontal lines. When I output the image, I still get the horizontal lines (all seen on my PC).
    My goal:
To capture my videos and have them at high quality so I can edit them to show on my TV to the family. I also would like to be able to see them on the PC without the annoying (and dizzying) horizontal lines.
Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

I looked at the manuals, etc. from Sony and could not find out much about the output of the camcorder. So best I can tell from your posts, the  Sony DCR-TRV80/ Mini DV tape is interlaced natively.
I then did an output to a DVD and played it on my TV/DVD and no interlacing (actually minimal) was apartment.
I was unable to output to YouTube since it would only do it if it also uploaded the video to YouTube which I did not want to do.
So I outputted to AVCHD which seemed to be progressive output. The horizontal lines were definitely much less but still noticeable especially if I make the player larger.
I am just struggling with what I thought as high quality camcorder and prosumer program that I can not see it nicely on the computer or at something a bit larger than a tiny thing.
What can I try to check into this? I am glad to do whatever it takes on my end to learn or correct what I am doing.

  • Final Cut Express...Audio monitoring while capturing video.

Does anyone know how to monitor audio while capturing?

You might try posting in the FCE forum, very few Express users here in the Final Cut Pro forum.
In FCP, the function—and limitations—is clearly explained in the manual. I hope Apple's FCE manual and online help system are as thorough.

  • Capturing video input via a usb connection

i have a usb converter from interview 2.0. one end is the usb input and the other end has two different input options . . . one is an rca video input and the other is an s video input.
is there a way to get this to work with imovie or something else on my pwerbook?

iMovie is a video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV camcorders
.. firewire isn't just a plug and a cable, it is also some protocol standard... that's why you don't need any "drivers" to make iM work with any fw connected camcorder...
some link to the manufacturer of your "converter" would be useful, I can not google any specs with your infos...
but I'm afraid, that is a "PC only" product...
    so:
    a) no, doesn't work with iM
    b) needs some additional apps to get any input into a Mac... usb uses a very "slow" and instable connection, so my guess is, it uses some kind of compression, which isn't natively supported by iM (as mpeg) => needs conversion.... not useful.

  • Em28xx:cross row noise only with S-video input

The nice thing about Linux is that every step you make, behind the corner there is always a surprise.
    The surprise today is this:
I have two versions of Arch Linux installed, both updated to the state of art. One with the last driver em28xx of linuxtv.org (rev 13044) for PCTV USB2 and the other with the driver em28xx-new-hg 0.20090409-1 downloaded from AUR for the card Terratec Cinergy XS.
In both systems, the operation is perfect with both analog TV and composite video input.
If, however, capture from s-video in both systems appear horizontal lines that occupy the entire screen the width of ten pixels. The visibility of these lines depends very much on the underlying color. With the blue are very visible.
Note that in both systems have also installed windows that gives me very good results even for the S-video.
Changing the format of capture in mplayer and v4l-ctl2 in every way possible does not affect whatsoever the problem.
Is there any Guru em28xx that can give me a hand?
    Thanks

The Sony GV-D200E is supposed to have a firewire out on it. Can't you just capture from that? Also, the Sony specs say that besides firewire it also has a composite video output. I would think that would be plenty good enough for hi-8 footage. I doubt very much if you would see any difference at all between that and the S-video given the source is hi-8.
If can't do any of that, does your miniDV cam have a "pass-through" feature? Most Canon's have it. Anyhow, depending on how it works you may be able to run the proper lines from the Sony unit into your DV unit while passing right through it into the puter. I don't think CS4 will do a live capture, so you may need to capture with WMM instead. If nothing else you can probably record from the Sony to your miniDV and then pass that on to the computer.
    Good Luck

  • No video input for external devices on iMac 24" display???

I got a 24" iMac a few days ago and love this thing. (Was in PC **** for last 30 years...) But one thing I am disappointed in is that there appears to be no video input to display video or to video capture. Is the only way to display video from an outside source by using a USB video capture device? For example, if I have a cable box or game console I want to display on the monitor, how can I do that? Seems silly to need to use a capture device to simply display video. Please let me know if there is simple way to do this. Thanks!

I don't see how using a camcorder would help especially although it would be technically possible to use it as a bridge between other devices I can't see how it would be worth your while.
Obviously not speaking from experience since almost all if not all DV cameras have passthrough, and feed video into a mac via firewire from the analog audio and video input port on the DV camera. They have been used for ages as decks (and are many times cheaper than DV decks) and as converters vs. buying a Canopus box etc., which are basically the same thing.
The EYE TV 250 does the same thing with a USB connection and its own software but for the myriad of DV cam owners the passthrough is a fine idea.

  • Weak Audio Signal in Capture

    Anyone see this?
I am recording sound from an external mixer connected to the line in port on the Mac. I get a good strong signal when I go to system preferences, sound dialog box, and set input level. But in FCP I see a much weaker signal in the Log and Capture dialog box.
I also get a weak input signal in Soundtrack Pro.
I have my mixer faders all the way up, gain up. all switches set for non controllable device, audio only.
I am using a Mackie Onyx mixer, and one option is to purchase the firwire IO card and get audio that way, but I am thinking that this will take up bandwidth on the firewire port and cause dropped frames.
    Anyone have any thoughts?
    G5 sp 1.8 Ghz (2003)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

The outputs on the Mackie are PREFADER. Raising the faders does not increase the levels for output via the 16 channel out, or with firewire. You need to raise the gain on the preamps if you want a stronger level.
Why would you drop frames in the event of using firewire - are you capturing in real time, or do you shoot the video, and then ingest the video into the Mac?
I use a Mackie to record concerts, the recording goes out multichannel to the Mac via Firewire, the video cameras record the DV, and after, I mix the audio, ingest the video, import the mixed audio into FCP and sync the audio with the video. ( Matching an event in the video audio, which I do not use, with the mixed audio from the mackie )
