Advanced AirPort Configuration

I have a problem. My Digital TV setup requires the decoder to get a special IP address assigned by the DNS server of my ISP. How do I configure my Time Capsule to do this?

Bloodsplatter, Welcome to the discussion area!
Sorry but if the decoder requires a "special" public IP address which is different than the one used by the Time Capsule, this is not possible.

  • Airport configuration utility doesn't find Airport Express anymore

    Hi,
This morning I updated my Airport configuration utitlity to version 6.3. When I opened the new version I noticed it couldn't find my Airport Express anymore. There was an error about the AE not being in my network anymore and whether I would the utility let it forget or not... However, I was still connected to the internet. So, no big problem for now, but I would like to be able to configure my Airport Express when needed, and that's not possible know.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem? I tried to reset (soft, hard and back to factory defaults) the AE, but no result. Only way to reconfigure my AE is through the wireless networks overview on my iPhone. The configuration utility on my iPhone works neither.
The old version of the utility (5.6) does recognize the AE by the way. Seems more like a software problem to me then?
The configuration utility on my iPhone works neither.

his worked for me and Airport Utility sees all my devices now.I indeed did it through the Terminal. But behold: in another thread I found the solution to this problem. I found this:

Looks like 6.3 is using IPv6 to talk to Time Capsules/Airports. I know I had turned off IPv6 long ago since I didn't need it. Also looks like Apple has removed 'Off' as a valid choice for that setting.
    To turn IPv6 back on:
    Open System Preferences->Network
    Click Advanced
Change Configure IPv6 from 'Off' to 'Link-local only'
    Click Ok
    Click Apply
AU 6.3 should now be able to communicate with your device.
This worked for me and Airport Utility 6.3 sees all devices in my network. You should try this too. Good luck!

Fix typo in error string for situations where there are advanced messaging configuration settings from LCDS used in the configuration files but no AdvancedMessagingSupport service. The error string said that there was no flex.messaging.services.AdvancedMessagingService registered but it is the flex.messaging.services.AdvancedMessagingSupport service that needs to be registered.
Add configuration test that starts the server with a destination that has the reliable property set which is an advanced messaging feature but there is no AdvancedMessagingSupport service registered.

    Hi,
Unfortunately I already tried all kinds of re-installs (the full list is in my original message). The only one remaining is the reinstall of Windows 8 itself, which I would really like to avoid.
What I find really strange is the time it takes for the above error message to appear. It's like one hour or even more (never measured exactly, I left the computer running).
What kind of a timeout is that? I would expect that, if ports are really used by some other application, I get the message in less than a minute (seconds, actually). To me this looks like the emulator itself for some reason believes there's a problem with
some port while in reality there isn't.
I'll eventually contact Microsoft Support, thanks for the suggestion.

  • Wifi problems after update airport configuration

Hello, i have a question about my wifi. After i installed airport configuration 6.1 my computer said there is no wifi hardware installed. Does anybody knows how to fix this?
Or to get back to 6.0 ?

    Thank you.
The problem is that I used to have a wifi network that let me go on the internet from my iPad, iPhone and laptop. Two days ago, it disappeared: no access to the internet via wifi from anywhere but my desktop. The old wifi network isn't listed anywhere, on my desktop or other devices that detect wifi.
I access the internet via ethernet from my desktop, via virgin media.
What I want to do is get a home network up and running again. Originally, it was all automatic - I didn't have to know anything to get it working. Then I followed some nifty spec on the forum to slightly alter the address of the device, and my other devices, so that I could use my computer's wifi from my Kindle. For the next 9 months, no problems. Then I casually updated the airport utility and poof, the wifi network vanished. And I don't know how to get a DHCP ID or anything else, because I didn't have to do it originally. I just plugged in my computer and did what I was told to.
This sounds so pathetic. I'm sorry. Is there some way I can just start all over again?

  • I want to reset my Airport Express, but I get a message that my airport configuration program is too new.(mavericks).

I want to reset my Airport Express (older version), but I get a message that my airport configuration program in mavericks is too new.

Mavericks does not support the older AirPort Express, so you will need to use....or borrow...a Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC to be able to administer the older Express.

  • Setup older Time Capsule 1TB for wireless connection via newest Airport Configuration

    Hi guys
I have a Time Capsule 1TB (first generation I think) which works fine. I don't like to many cables on my desk, and now that I have my new iMac next to my MacBook, I would like to setup the TC as part of a wireless network (so that it doesn't create a new network and I also don't need an Ethernet cable from TC to Computer of from Modem to TC).
Now, in the 5.6 Airport Configuration, no problem at all to get this fixed, but the new generation makes me a little crazy.
So: how can I setup the TC as a part of an existing WI-FI network with the newest Airport Configuration and so I don't need Ethernet in any way?
    Thanks!

BUTT.. if you want to.. there is no reason you cannot use a big UGLY FATT BUTT.. v6 utility has taken away loads of useful things.. !!
Install 5.6 utility on Mountain Lion.. this is well worth while.. Some stuff is just better done manually.
Google as there are a number of methods.. here is mine. It has the advantage of using the free utility unpkg. Not pretty but works easy peasy.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • Multiple Airports/Configurations

I've got a rather odd little thing showing up in my Internet System Preferences. There are three 'Airport' Configuration options that are in the 'Show' dropdown menu, and also that appear under Network Status. In Network Status, only one is ever 'green' and connected. The other two are always yellow. All three show the same Airport ID. One of them is set up to 'Join a Specific Network' while the other two only have options to join 'Automatic' or 'Preferred Networks'. They don't have the option for a Specific Network, and the one set to Specific Network does not have either the Automatic or Preferred Network options available. I'm not sure what to make of it, and I'd like to consolidate these if I can figure out how. I'm also not sure exactly when this happened. It probabl appeared back in Panther and is not new to Tiger, but I'm not certain. It doesn't appear to cause any performance issues, so while I've thought it odd, I haven't tried to do anything about it, yet. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Hi Venura,
You can do this in Project Properties. On the Profiles page, click New... to create a new profile. You can change many of the runtime settings associated with the project for each individual profile.
    Thanks,

  • Installation Time Capsule. Airport configuration stuck in a loop due to resetting - quid ?

Recently re-joined apple community with MBA and time capsule for back-up and additional disk space.
My Time capsule never was properly installed, although I did manage to put some documents on the hard disk of my time capsule (so I think). It never gave me the green light, though. Keeps on flashing amber (for 3 weeks now). 4 days ago I pushed the button "reset" in the airport configuration program. Now this program is stuck in somekind of loop, preventing me from closing down the program and shutting down my MBA.
Can anyone help me out? Is there somekind of ctrl+alt+delete fast key that I can use to force shut down of the airport configuration program?
    thx

Right Click on the icon down the bottom of the screen.. and hold down option key.. force quit will appear.. it is your crtl+alt+del key combo.
Disconnect the TC from whatever you have it plugged into.. power it down.. hold in reset.. power on again.. and keep holding reset until front led flashes rapidly.. then open airport utility again and reconfigure it.. This time in bridge.. and create a wireless network. update and plug it into the main router by ethernet. Using wireless joining is not really good enough or reliable enough to bother with.

  • Deleted Airport Configuration in Network Preferences

Today a colleague of mine was complaining that her computer wasn't picking up the wireless network. I take a look at her computer and there's no Airport icon in her menu bar. I go into the Network section of the computer's System Preferences. Where is shows Network Port Configurations, the Airport configuration is unchecked and can't be checked.
Do you suppose that configuration was deleted? If so, how could it be reinstalled?

You might try to reset the SMC and/or PRAM.

  • Vonage, dsl and airport configuration need help!

Vonage is not Mac proficient. I cannot get a technician on their end to help me connect the router they sent me to configure it to work with my airport base station and dsl modem. Is there anyone out there who is actually up and running wirelessly via airport extreme base station with a Zyxel P-660R modem from Earthlink DSL with Linksys RT31P2 broadband router from Vonage?

From a quick google, it looks like you should take the ethernet connection from the Zyxel into the RT31P2's "Internet" port. Connect a second ethernet cable between one of the RT31P2's LAN ports and your Airport base station. Set the Airport as a bridge--connect using Ethernet, configure using DHCP, don't distribute IP addresses.

  • Proper Airport configuration

I'm connecting to the internet via Airport on my G5 Power Mac wirelessly to a Linksys "Wireless-G" Broadband router that supports wireless B and G.
The mac is 35 to 40 feet from the router - mac in one room - then hallway - then router in another room.
In internet connect, I'm only getting about half or a third of the full signal level on average, and yes, my connection speed seem to be pretty slow - slower that the wired computer hooked up to the router.
Any configuration reccommendations (or G5 or router) that will improve this, or is this just the nature of wireless, or wireless at this distance. (Should it be better at this distance?)
    Thank you,

  • Can't read airport configuration

I have an Airport Extreme base station (802.11g), which I use with Airport Utility 5.3.1 on my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.4.11). My internet connection is actually working fine, but when I tried to access the Airport settings because houseguests were having trouble using our wireless network, Airport Utility found the base station but could not read the configuration (error message -6753). I reset Airport, with the same result (except that now I can't rename the network or reset the password, because I cannot access the settings). I have also been unable to download the latest firmware for the same reason. So -- I can use Airport for internet access, but should I ever need to change the settings (as I was trying to do this evening), I'd be out of luck. Any thoughts?

Try connecting your laptop directly to the AEBS with an ethernet cord (you might have to reset the base station again).

  • Advanced DHCP Configuration

    Dear people,
I was glad to see that in 1.0.2.6 some tftpboot issues have been adressed. However I run into a problem.
I setup the Advanced DHCP with the tftp server ip (also tried hostname btw), configured the
DHCP Client Device vs. Configuration File Mapping Table. When I try to tftp boot any device, the devices search for the boot file not on the tftp server (192.168.1.100), but on the RV180 itself (192.168.1.1). I find this very confusing. Could it be that tftp function 66 isn't working as it should be, or could it be something in my local configuration? Are there any limitations I should know about?
    Thanx!

    Hi Samir,
    Thanx for the reply.
I used to have a wrt54g as the default gateway in my network, tftpbooting just went fine, all my clients were able to connect to the tftpserver and load the designated files. I swapped the wrt54g with the rv180 (gigabit etc) assuming the information in the datasheet was based on real functionality. Unfortunately tftp on the rv180 was a diisapointment from the start. The first two firmware releases only accepted tabeling with .cfg files. Now, in release nr 3, the webui allows the mapping of other than .cfg files. Gladly I can map .0 and .bin files now. Clients doing tft-booting receive an ipadress and wait for 192.168.1.1 (rv180) to hand them the right files, ofcourse this never happends. I wonder what firmeware version will hold the fix to this problem. it could be that the rv180 has a hidden tftp-server, or maybe tftp-function 66 is just not working. Tftp-function 150 is also a next-server funtion, it is proprietary from Cisco itself. My clients and tftp-server are not familiar with this function, maybe the rv180 has trouble choosing 66 or 150?

  • Airport configuration error 10057 and Microsoft TCPIP reset

I was having the same persistent problem accessing my Airport Extreme router at my office using my HP Windows XP machine (one of my last non-Apple computers).  It kept returning the 10057 error when I would use the Windows-based Airport Utility.  However, I could always access via my Macs using Airport Utility.  I was reminded via another thread in these communities that sometimes you must refresh Windows' TCP/IP settings.  However, that response didn't include a link to the following Microsoft Support knowledgebase article that instructs you how to do so and also includes a downloadable application called "Microsoft Fix it 50199" that will run the scripts for you and should resolve this common error:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
Another thread also suggested the work-around of using File > Configure Other, which does work when you encounter this error.  You can then manually access the desired router.  That does not resolve the issue, though.
I also thought that the error might be related to my use of Apple's Wireless Distribution System (WDS) to connect my Airport Extreme with a remote Airport Express.  However, this problem is obviously not an Apple issue but a basic Microsoft one: corrupt TCP/IP settings.  I hope that this helps and saves others some time.
    Kind regards,

Cool, so I've had an Airport Express Gen 1 for ages. This weekend I reset it to create a wireless network to allow me to control DeeJay app on my pad and airplay the music to a pa system.
Now I came to reset and get it back on my network again I get error code 10057.
I did the factory defaults setting by holding a pen in the reset slot but even though Airport Utility scans and finds it it will still say 10057 network error when trying to configure it.
Just about to give up I thought I'd check to see if it was still producing a wifi signal as per the setup from the weekend.
On my iPhone 4 I went into the wifi settings to see if the ssid was being broadcast and it wasn't BUT underneath the list of my network and neighbours wifi was another option,
    Setup Airport Express!!
Amazing, I followed the path of questions to change it to join a network instead of create a network and all now works tickety boo!!!
I don't normally post stuff on forums but if this helps someone else by getting them to check in an apple device settings to check for the airport, it might be worth it.
    Cheers!
