Advanced battery optimisation ?

Hello
I own a HP elitebook 9470 laptop that run arch+lxde and windows 7. Most things work fine, but i have a power consumption issue that annoys me. In spite of all optimisations i found on the web, the power consumption is much bigger than when it runs windows 7. In the same conditons (idle, 10% brightness, no networking) :
Power consumption with windows : 6 watts (joulemeter) -> 8 hours battery life
power consumption with arch : 7.75+ wattss (powerop) -> 6hours battery life
What I did to optimize arch's power consumption :
- tried taylorchu's powerdown (removed, TLP does slightly better)
- install and manually configue TLP (i can post /etc/default/tlp if needed)
- disable ethernet, webcam, bluetooth, fingerprints in the BIOS
- install thermald EDIT : removed, seems to consume more than it saves
- EDIT : and GPU power saving in my grub kernel line :
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi='!Windows 2012' acpi_backlight=legacy pcie_aspm=force acpi_enforce_resources=lax i915.i915_enable_rc6=7 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 i915.semaphores=1 drm.vblankoffdelay=1 nmi_watchdog=0 intel_pstate=1"
So my question is : is there any advanced power management tool, any way to lower power consumption, anything else I can do to have better battery performance ?
I was thinking about blacklisting some modules (sdcard reader, MEI module, ...) but don't really know what happens to a blacklisted module, so i'm not sure it will save power... any tip about this ?
Thanks for reading
Quentin
EDIT : changed kernel line

So, after some tests :
-  the "i915.i915_enable_rc6=7" seems to be pretty efficient, and saves me about 0.25-0.5 watts (so, much thanks)
- the "powerdown --auto-tune" does not seem to be a better alternative than tlp. Though, it sometimes save some 0.2 additionnal watts when i run it with tlp enabled. I don't really know that to  think about it. I'll try to see how it behaves after a while...
So with those settings, I reach 7.2 watts, which is better, but still pretty much more than windows... are there some last things that could help me balance that, or should I "deal with it" for now (and wait for what the future will bring) ?

  • Is my MacBook battery defective?

    Hi all,
My MacBook Pro 13" late 2011 is having some battery charging problems. I don't have an apple charger, though I've been using one from eBay for over 12 months with no problems until the past month or so.
Three things happen. It either says the battery is not charging when plugged in, charges for about 10-15 mins then doesn't charge, or my computer will turn off when I move it (even with charge).
My Mum has another non apple charger for her MacBook Air mid 2011, which does the same to my computer as my charger. Both of our chargers work 100% perfectly on her computer and have never caused her to experience any problems.
According to my system report, I've had 621 battery cycles and it's in normal condition. I didn't have any problems until I updated to Yosemite.
I'd take my computer into an apple store, but the closest one to my house is over an hour away and I would only like to take it in if I have to.
    Thanks everyone
    -Ebony

From what can be determined from Apple's documentation on the subject:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
    Your New Notebook
Your new Apple notebook features advanced battery chemistry that greatly extends the battery’s lifespan. The built-in battery of your MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air is designed to deliver up to 1000 full charge and discharge cycles before it reaches 80 percent of its original capacity.
So, if yours is down to 82% health with only 166 cycles, it looks like something is wrong. Give Apple a call, and see what they say.

  • Third party battery recommendation

    Hi all,
I am thinking about buying a new battery for my 15" Powerbook (FW 800). Anyone have recommendations for a good third party battery? I've found numerous references to the NuPower battery (though, does it matter that it's 11.1 V instead of 10.8 V?):
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/BAP15AL4800/
I've also found this battery from needbattery.com which has the highest amp hours I've seen (5.85), though since some manufacturers report Watt-hours instead it's hard to compare :
    http://tinyurl.com/etwr2
There is also this interesting (and perhaps more environmentally friendly?) option of refilling the battery):

Any thoughts/recommendations? I'm clearly not so saavy on the battery issue. Thanks for any advice.

How many time have you run battery reset? Mine took 4 times before the recall test tool showed I qualify.
You need to install Power manager.
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-62928.html
    Once installed preform a reset
Lenovo Power Manager > Advanced > Battery Tab > Battery Maintenance > Preform Reset
I had to preform 4 resets before the battery biagnostic tool saw the bad battery and I was able to get a recall replacement. The reset build a log of the battery problem and the diagnostic tool uses that log to decide if you get a replacement.

  • Possible counterfeit T60 battery

I purchased a new battery for my T60 which looks like an original from the outside.
But the Lenovo powermanager shows as serial number "1" and as barcode number "XXXXXXXXXXX". That seems odd to me. The merchant insists that the battery is original and that he is a lenovo business partner.
Can this strange serial and barcode number happen with an original battery or is this the prove that it is a counterfeit ?
    Thanks

The OP writes that he purchased what looks like a genuine battery from a vendor who claims it's OEM and that he's a business partner. Yet Power Manager says otherwise.
    1. Is there some other way to determine conclusively that the battery really is genuine, e.g. some special software?
    2. How does a customer verify that a seller really is an authorized Lenovo Business Partner? Do we contact Lenovo in our country? Is there an online list somewhere that's available to the public?
    3. If the battery turns out to be a fake and/or the seller isn't a real BP, what recourse does the customer have?
I'm wondering if the OP might have an outdated version of power manager that doesn't recognise the firmware of a newly manufactured battery so displays this false data. I know fake batteries are widely available, especially for this model, but there is no way to tell from the info we have here. Seeing a screenshot from the advanced battery tab in the current version of power manager might be helpful, as would a photo of the battery.

  • MacBook Battery: Li-ion or Li-Poly?

Apple's websites states that the MacBook Pro's battery is lithium-polymer, a more advanced battery from the lithium-ion batteries used in the PowerBooks. However, I noticed my MBP's battery says Li-ion, is this just a warning that it contains lithium, a typo, or really just Li-ion?

Can you take a photo of the battery and post it

  • Defect Macbook Battery so far?

Is this looking I will need a battery replacement covered by Apple soon?
I bought my Macbook at MacMall, am I still covered?

Yeah I've had my MB for over a year but its not even at 100 count and the capacity isn't looking too well. And yes this is the original battery from Apple

  • Satellite M30: Power Saver options missing after motherboard replacement

    Hi all,
I've just received my laptop back from the service center, and unsurprisingly they stuffed up a feature that used to exist!
I had taken my laptop (M30 1.7GHz Special Edition) to the repair center for a defect and they informed me that the motherboard needed to be replaced. I received the laptop back a couple of days ago and I immediately noticed the laptop getting overheated, the fan did not turn on as frequently as it used to when setting the profile to "Full Power".
After hours of investigation, I noticed that a few options that used to exist in the Toshiba Power Saver does NOT exist anymore. Thus, I feel my laptop is running as in battery optimised even though it's set to full power.
As I said, the fan is not turning on as frequently, leading to the laptop getting overheated. While the fan used to be almost constantly ON on full power prior to the replacement of the motherboard.
Here's how the power saver used to look like "prior" to taking the laptop to the repair center:
    http://www.foxpop.com/imre/2006/toshibatecram3review/toshibapowersaver1.gif
And here's how the power saver looks like now, after the replacement of the motherboard:
    http://www.ixbt.com/portopc/toshiba-satellite/power.png
with the CPU processing speed maximum of 3, instead of 4.
Notice how I'm now missing the "CPU control method" option, and I'm unable to set the processing speed to more than level 3!
The cooling method does not seem maximum performance to me either, due to the symptoms I mentioned above.
Any idea on why that might have happend? Please note that I used the system recovery CD and returned everything to the factory settings, still no luck. I'm sick and tired of going back to their lousy repair center. If someone can point out the problem I will be very grateful.
P.S. I'm using version 7 of the power saver, BIOS verion 1.4 (original)
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
I wonder why you did not contact the service guys again.
After the reparation everything should works fine and if the notebook does not run properly you should immediately report it! In my opinion its a warranty claim.
However, in my knowledge after the motherboard replacement the micro code on the board must be updated therewith the CPU could run with full performance.
What CPU speed appears in the windows system?
Im not 100% sure if the missing microcode update is responsible for your problem but I would recommend asking the ASP for opinion.

  • What to do on uncompleted patchset apply?

I installed OEM grid control 10.2.0.1 and tried upgrade to 10.2.0.5 by applying the patchset 3731593. After loading all files, the runInstaller was doing all configuration on the components like j2ee and oms. That took very long time and the popup java window of runInstaller disappeared. I then re-run the runInstaller. But I got the message (from inventory) that tell me that the patchset 10.2.0.5 has been installed.
What should I do at this point? How can I rerun the installer?

What you should do, which is advised by the manual, is plug it in and turn it on, and when it reaches full charge, unplug it and let it run RIGHT down until it sleeps, and then charge it back up to full. You can then choose to use it on or off the charger as and when you like. But I do think it is wise to condition the battery (with the steps above)
The Manual also recommends that you repeat this every so often in order to keep the battery optimised!

  • Changing Availability Checks in Sales orders

    hi there,
Can i easily change the Availability Check in a sales order?
i have 5 sales orde rtypes, and I sometimes want to change the Availability Check, how can i manage this?
    thanks

There are three types of availability checks
    1. Availability Check with ATP Logic or Against Planning
    2. Availability Check Against Product Allocation
    3. Rule-based Availability Check
For ATP logic, the Checking group and Checking rule combination determines the availability check parameters. The checking group is maintained in the material master, and not to Sales order type. Hence you can control by having different groups attached to different materials.
If you have Advanced Planner Optimiser (APO) then you can use the Rule based availability check. You can attach a Business transaction to a Sales document type and thus control the availability check in sales order level also.
    Refer the below extracts:
    <b>Define business transaction</b>
Path : spro -- img -- sd -- BF -- Av chk and TOR --- Rule based availabilty check
In this step you can define the business transactions. These transactions must also be available in the APO planning system. Here the availability check control is carried out for the transactions. You can find the business transactions in the APO planning system (Field BPROC) under:
Global ATP -> Settings -> Rule-based ATP -> Conditions -> Assign rule strategy.
<b>Assign business transaction to sales order type</b> t code VOV8
In this IMG activity, you assign the actions you defined previously to the order types. This activates the availability check settings for this order type, that were maintained in the APO planning system.
    Regards,
