Advanced Collections functionality

Over the next year we are going to be implementing Oracle's Financial suite (AP, AR, GL, FA) and we have some internal discussions going on regarding the functionality of the Advanced Collections module versus a best of breed collections tool (such as GetPaid). Does anyone have any information that can be shared that compares and contrasts these tools ?

How to use Advance java function in graphical mapping in XI 2.0?

Hi,
currently I am using a simple java function to make an RFC call to R3 system.
I want to avoid making connection for each lookup. Instead I want to make a single connection for whole message queue and get the corresponding values in some array or container object.
please suggest a solution.
I think this is possible using Advance java function, but I am not able to find any example on using Advance java function at help.sap.com.

I'm not sure if I understood you well.
Do you want to preload some data into your structures in the memory and keep them there so you don't need to make a new connection during processing the whole message or every message?
In my opinion you can cache some data during processing a message, but it's impossible to cache some data between processing messages.
If you write your java mapping or you use graphical mapping (even with user-defined function), then you have a java class. The problem is that XI 2.0 reloads this class during processing every message, so even if you load some data from your data source into your structures in the memory, this data will be lost after reloading your mapping class.

Collection function taking more time to execute

I am using a collection function in my sql_report it is taking plenty of time to return rows, is there any way to get the resulted rows(using collection) without consuming more time.

Error in collect function

Hi,
I am using below query for collect
select account_id_N,collect(connection_id_v) from My_test_table group by account_id_n;
but its giving me error as below.
ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected NUMBER got -
00932. 00000 - "inconsistent datatypes: expected %s got %s"

In Oracle E Business Suite, Advanced Collections - Collections Form..

Hi All,
Can anyone please let me know how we can get mapping for the columns that are referenced on advanced collections - collection form. We cannot get the same from help as many of the columns are mapping columns.
Mainly I struck in the notes and Work items tables, where I could not get the data. Any suggestions are great help.
Base Tables mapping is helpful.

When the JRE was installed/configured on the workstations was the jar cache placed on a LAN drive instead of the local drive? We have experienced poor performance with both the JRE and Jinitiator when the Workstation Sysadmins configured the jar cache to be located on a LAN drive. Also is the size of the jar cache on the workstation sufficient to hold all of your required jar files. It could be downloading the jar files all the time.
Overall our performance with the JRE is comparible to the Jinitiator.
Sorry I have not experienced the problem that you are having with you pdf reports so I can't provide any comments on it.

Using advanced statistical functions in BO or creating your own ones

Can someone tell me if it is possible to use more advanced statistical functions in BO (webi or deski f.i.) like the possibility to extrapolate figures. I only see a limited functions in Webi (mean, intrapolate, percentiles, ...).
If not is it then possible to add own functions in the available functions?

Adobe Advanced Search Function not woking

The Advanced Search Function has stopped working. I use mac os x 10.6.8. I deleted and reinstalled adobe reader 10.1.2 and still the same problem: nothing appears when I click on the Advanced Search function. I'd welcome suggestions on how to fix this. Thank you.

Did you try the shortcut for Advanced search - option + shift +F. Do you not get the search window even then ?

Advanced math functions/libraries

Are there any more advanced math functions/libraries available for Java (other than in the normal Math class)? Right now I'm looking for something that will rapidly return all the factors of an integer, but I am likely to be interested in other features in the future as well. Thanks.

You could look at the Apache Math library:

perhaps it has some number theory methods.
Or you could look into a Java bridge/interface between existing computer algebra systems (CAS) like Maple, Mathcad (both commercial) or the excellent opensource alternative: Octave. All these CAS have a bridge/interface to Java.

Advanced File Functions

Hello all,
I have a subVI that deletes 5 files which should always be present on my desktop due to a run before. However, I have to put in a fail-safe that skips the delete process if the files are for some reason missing.
Attached is the simple file path constant and Delete file directory process that I currently use.
Is there any way I can utilize any of the other Advanced File Functions with a Case Structure and other Boolean Functions that can detect whether or not the files are there and then delete them if they are, or just skip the delete process if the files are not there.

The Delete VI will skip the process on its own. The simplest thing to do is to call it and ignore the error (for example by using the Clear Errors VI). Just make sure not to wire an error into it if you do this, because you will then clear that error.
As for some other tips regarding this VIs -
Using constant paths is often a bad thing, especially if your are going to build the code into an executable and\or move it to another computer. Getting the path to the desktop is done in Windows through a special function which you can call by using the Call Library Function node, or you can hold the base path in a global.
I suggest that unless absolutely necessary, you should not save your files to the desktop, but to another folder.
You should create error in and out terminals, so that you can control when the VI runs.
Giving it a less generic name is also a good idea, because LV can not hold 2 VIs with the same name in memory.
To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here, here, here, here and here are a few you can start with and here are some tutorial videos. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).

Displaying logo in Advance Collection BI Publsiher templates

We have got file name from template query based on custom value set and try to set picture Alt text tab url:{concat('$[OA_MEDIA]/',.//LOGO_FILE.jpeg)}
but we are not able to display logo in Advance Collection reports
If any hints on resolving this will be of great help.

Can Advanced Action functions be done with JS?

Is it possible to use JavaScript to perform Advanced Action functions like "show", "hide", "assign", etc? If so, is there an applicable reference doc?

The SWF JS API does not support show/hide... only assign. HTML5 JS API supports show/hide and assign.
To assign a vairable regardless of Output, you can look at this article:

Hiding the advanced search functionality

I need to hide the Help link appearing on the masthead. Also, need to remove the search/advanced search functionality appearing on the portal page.

If you want to do that for the out of the box framework page.
1. Goto Cotent Admin -> PCD
2. navigate to Content provided by SAP -> eND USER CONTENT -> STANDARD PORTAL USERS -> DEFAULT FRAMEWORK PAGE
3. OPEN DEFAULT FRAMEWORK PAGE --> TOOL AREA
4. DISABLE SEARCH OPTION IN THE PROPERTIES

Advance payment functionality

Hi Gurus,
Can any one please explain me if the way the advance payment functionality is used in the SAP system? The advance payment can be from 10% to 100%, I will I have to have the separate way of posting or do I create a new GL account? I will appriciate if some one can explain me this in details.

Generic bulk collect function

I've ran into a scenario in Forms (10g) where some of the embedded plsql could benefit from the use of Bulk Collects. Now, as I've just found out, Forms doesn't like Bulks in it's embedded code, returns a 'feature not supported in client...' error.
I attempted to write a function in the db (10g), to be called from the Form, accept a ref cursor parameter, Fetch the cursor contents using bulk into an array, then return the filled array to the Form. (It may not be performant either, but I'll never know because I didn't get it working.)
However, fatally, I can't create a record array in the function without knowing the structure of the cursor. I've googled, and not found any way to do it.
So, before I give up on it and go for a different solution, I just thought I'd check here to see if anyone else has attempted this? Or am I right in now thinking it's just not do-able.

Not a good idea to bulk collect in PL/SQL on the behalf of an external client like Forms.
A bulk collect does a single thing only - it reduces the context switching between the PL/SQL and SQL engines. If you fetch a 1000 rows one at a time, then that fetch statement will cause a 1000 context switches as PL/SQL needs to step into the SQL engine in order to copy that row's data into PL/SQL.
If you do a bulk fetch of a 100 rows/fetch, then you reduce the number of context switches to 10. A significant reduction.
Okay, so now you hook Forms (or Java/Delphi/C#/etc) into this chain and push that bulk collection from a PL/SQL variable to this client. What do you achieve? Not much as you're now offsetting that reduction in context switches with more memory that needs to be used (that PL/SQL collection buffer needs PGA memory), and you add the overheads of first pulling the data from the db buffer cache into PL/SQL and then to the client.
PL/SQL makes a very poor data cache for a client - the db buffer cache was designed exactly for that purpose. And is far superior than anything we can code in PL/SQL for the same role.
It is much simpler, more robust, to rather fetch the data directly from the db buffer cache - no intermediate PL/SQL caching and buffering when fetching data. This will also scale better and perform better.
The ideal is to use PL/SQL to implement a business logic layer, security, pre-processing, validation and other good stuff for the client - and then return a ref cursor to the client. Allowing the client to use that prepared cursor to fetch data directly from the db buffer cache.
