Advanced search cashes Acrobat

Hi,
we deploy adobe acrobat 9.x via administrative installation point and gpo on win7-clients.
We've registered, if users call advanced search, acrobat crashes:
Eventlog-Message:

Now we've isolated the problem, so we can say: there is a problem with user-grouppolicies.
Most userpolicies are internet explorer policies.
But we can't find the special object causing problems.
So it would be interesting in know how acrobat works with internet explorer.
What functions or security options are needed?
Thanks!
Klaus

Is there any way to have the search look for "Match any of the terms" as opposed to "Match the exact phrase" using Reader 9.
Yes; if the embedded index is still present and "Search" rather than "Find" is used.
Edit > Search rather than Edit > Find.
Search requires the embedded index or a Catalog index.
If a PDF having an embedded index undergoes a "Save As" the embedded index is removed and the PDF saved to support Fast Web View.

  • Advanced Search in Reader 9 for packages w/ embedded indexes created in Acrobat 8.1

I am having a terrible day.  I've just finished combining thousands of documents into 6 packages w/ embedded indexes using Acrobat 8.1.  The advanced search feature allowed me to enter several peoples names "Wilkes Terry White Smith Johnson, and I could select to "Match any of the terms" and I'd be able to see any documents that mentioned any of those names.  The problem is that my boss only has Reader 9 installed and his advanced search screen looks entirely different for the nice advanced search screen I can see.  I can't figure out how to get all the advanced search features for him to use.  If he enters several names "Wilkes Terry White Smith", he gets no hits because the system is assuming I'm just looking for someone named "Wilkes Terry White Smith."  Is there any way to have the search look for "Match any of the terms" as opposed to "Match the exact phrase" using Reader 9.  I'm in deep trouble tomorrow.

    Anyone an idea?
    Klaus

    Hi everybody,
I got an idea for a workaround myself - to answer my own question:
Create an extra view object attribute. Let's name it E_IS_NULL. The corresponding SQL column is a DECODE based on column E as illustrated below:
    ..DECODE(E, NULL, 'Y', 'N') E_IS_NULL ...
Then I can define that attribute with search allowed - and users can query records where that column is 'Y'.

  • Trouble with the advanced search function on acrobat reader. Why won't it open? it used to, but suddenly stopped working.

For some inexplicable reason the advanced search option in my acrobat reader 11.0.3 has stopped working. It worked just fine a few weeks ago. I am running Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro. When I open advanced reader the pdf file I am trying to search ceases to be the active window. But no other window exists (in 'window' search is checked, but there is nothing there!). Does anyone have any ideas. I have downloaded and re-installed reader twice, and removed all earlier versions (I think). This is kind of urgent!

It's a 3rd party app.  You really should contact Adobe Support and/or post in the Adobe Forums
    Mac OS X (10.6.6)
Use Software Update or the OS 10.6.8 combo update to update your OS.  Also, update everything SU has to offer for your computer.  When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.

  • I have got Acrobat 10.1.13 for Mac running Yosemite - and the 'advanced search' feature has stopped functioning - it doesn't install the search window, nothing happens - so I uninstalled acrobat, reinstalled it - but it still not working?

  • How do i do an advanced search when using adobe reader within a firefox window?

i used to be able to do an advanced search within a firefox tab, but when i updated firefox to version 33.0 from version 17.x, the interface changed and i can't figure out how to do it, any longer.
eventually, i figured out that a simple search can be done with control-F, but i'd like to get the advanced search panel.
when i use internet explorer, it has an icon of binoculars that will open advanced search. firefox does not have this.

Advanced Search relies on the use of a Catlog index built by the Acrobat search engine.
The browser add-ons cannot access the Catalog index.
Advance Search via Catalog indexes of network based PDF collections is possible.

  • Default Setting for Searching in Acrobat 6 - Please Help!

    Hello.
We are in a bit of a bind and hoping someone can help us out. We need to know if there is any way possible to change the default setting for Searching in Acrobat 6.0 from "MATCH EXACT WORD OR PHRASE" to "MATCH ANY OF THE WORDS".
We know this feature can be found in the Advanced Searching pane, but it needs to be changed for each document individually on a Search. We need to do it globally and automatically so that no matter what we search, it ALWAYS does MATCH ANY OF THE WORDS first without having to go to the Advanced Search pane.
    Can anyone help???
    Thank you in advance.
    Elf

No, you have no direct control over how the Form Wizard behaves. There are things you can do with the design of the source document that can influence how automatic field recognition works. For example:

  • Unable to turn on Advanced Search for viewing PDFs (v9.1) through IE7

Our company is currently using Acrobat 9.1 and Internet Explorer 7.
We have multiple PDF document sets set up to be searched using index files. The Index feature can only be accessed using the Advanced Search option of Acrobat Reader or Pro 9.1.
When we access the documents via our internal network, the advanced searching works fine. We can easily set the user's Acrobat Reader (or Writer) to have the Advanced Search option enabled.
However, if our users try to access these documents via our company's intranet web pages, the Acrobat Reader Interface plug-in (acropdf.dll?) of IE7 is fixed to only use the Basic Search option. Users are only able to search the active PDF.  I have not found a way to enable the the Advanced Search option using the Adobe / IE7 interface.
Not that long ago, we thought this option was available.
Is there a way to turn this feature on or at least allow it to be enabled?
    Thanks Much!

    Hello,
This may be of interest to anyone whose had the Advanced Search Problem (or the mis-linking problem mentioned below) using the current Acrobat Plugin to IE7.
I think I have found a workaround for this problem (and another we've found). I've been having users test this out over the past couple of weeks and it's working fine.
    Problem #1
Being unable to use index searching across multiple documents with the Acrobat Reader 9.1 plug-in interface running from within Internet Explorer version 7.0.    This current plug-in interface disallows setting up the Advanced Index Search feature that groups within our company use.
    Problem #2
Links in PDF A are not properly linking to desired pages (link targets) in PDF B.  Any links in PDF A will only take the user to Page 1 of PDF B.   This occurs when any PDF links to a certain page (other than page 1) in another targeted PDF.
    Solution:
Set the user's (many users in my case) Acrobat Reader (or Pro) to only open web based PDFs into the stand-alone Acrobat interface using the Accessibility Setup Assistant.
    In Adobe Reader:
Go to Document | Accessibility Setup Assistant.
Advance through the dialogs to Screen 5 of 5.
Turn OFF the feature Display PDF documents in web browser.
         Select Done.
         Exit Adobe reader.
    In Adobe Acrobat Pro:
Go to Advanced | Accessibility | Setup Assistant ...
Advance through the dialogs to Screen 5 of 5.
Turn OFF the feature Display PDF documents in web browser.
         Select Done.
    Result:
Any PDFs embedded in a web page (environment) will open up in a new session of Acrobat (Reader or Pro) on the users desktop.
Searching via indexes works great and there are no linking problems between PDFs.
It may not be an optimal solution, but is working fine for our folks that access our files via our company's intranet.
The only drawback I see is that you lose focus of the IE7 session and have to work outside of it's containment.  Although it is easy to set it back to the way it worked previously.
If anyone has any questions or comments, please let me know.  I'm open to any improvements we can make to our process.
    Thanks!
    Dave

  • Advance Search window does not appear.

Advance Search window does not appear. I see that several others have asked this question, but no one has received a good answer about how to solve it. I have tried reinstalling but it does nothing. Has anyone managed to fix this?

    Hey billiec47282142,
Could you please let me know what version of Acrobat are you using.
You might need to press "Shift+Ctrl/Command+F" for Windows/MAC to open Advanced Search Window.
Are you doing the same thing?
    Let me know.

  • Arrow key scrolling not working with advanced search- Adobe Reader X

I'm using adobe reader X and when I get results from an advanced search I am scrolling down the search results with the arrow keys, but the document will not update. I know this will work. Can anybody please help?

I am also having this problem.  Previous installations of Acrobat X allowed me to use the up and down arrows to navigate the search results, but no longer loads the appropriate page in the document.  I have to click each entry or hit the enter key after using the down arrows to update the page.

  • Advance Search Button and iPad Reader-how to troubleshoot?

I have a collection (1100 pages) that was the result of merging 136 individual PDF's derived form Microsoft Word files into one collection. I've added bookmarks and a bookmark button to perform and advanced search. The translation is nice.
On the laptop/desktop the button works as anticipated.
On the iPad (most current reader) nothing happens. However the search icon (magnifying glass) on the tool bar performs.
Not to confuse my audience should I have 2 flavors-iPad vs all other platforms? Reader/laptop does not have a search icon option but it is available under Edit/Advanced Search.
Also there are hyperlinks in several locations. These do not fire up Safari on the iPad. Might this be a limitation or do I have to do some unique coding. In this case I have about 140 instances throughout the collection.
If this is a limit due to the Reader/iOS I can probably get away with "this is not supported" statement for this release (September 1).
One OT: The Search function on the iPad (first gen) works but it is not as quick as on the laptop/desktop. Just an observation. Happy to have Adobe in teh stable of PDF readers for the iPad.

Thanks. For this application there are a potential universe of 17K members. $10 for an app will not fit the scenario. Nevertheless the Reader is a great start and I can control the download options (kiosk system at convention) to list "laptop/desktop" versus iPad.
Could you elaborate on how to get links to work? I've got the original Word documents, its derived PDF and using Acrobat Pro X (Mac). There are about a dozen obvious links that I'd like to try to get to work and learn how to make this work.

  • RPA Advance Search Button

    Dear Friends
Currently RPA is used in C-projects  but the advance search

I am assuming that the button is disabled so that user who
has logged in only views those projects that the user is
    responsible.

  • Navigation within Advanced Search

Hi - - I use Acrobat X Pro in an Enterprise Setting.
I use Advanced Search (SHIFT+CTRL+F) to find multiple occurrences of words or phrases in large documents.
If I perform an Advanced Search and get a big list of search results, I can select each result (in the search window) with my mouse and the main window will scroll to the corresponding entry in the document.  However, I should be able to navigate up and down through the search results window using my arrow keys, but it doesn't work.  The highlighted results in the search window moves up and down when using the arrow keys, but the document doesn't scroll in the main window.
If another user logs onto my PC, navigation with the arrow keys functions correctly for them.
Is there some setting in Acrobat that's tied to just my user profile that I'm missing?  My IT staff has already tried reinstalling Acrobat, but to no avail.

One of two things that are likely:
    1.  Your User Profile data for Acrobat is corrupt.  You can test this by creating a new profile on the machine and see if this works.  If it works in the new profile then your profile information is likely hosed.  You can try correcting this by removing or moving all the Acrobat data your user profile out of the profile to a new folder on the desktop and then relaunching Acrobat.
    2.  Your installation is corrupt.  You can remove Acrobat completely by using the AcroCleaner Tool on Adobe Labs, reboot the machine and then reinstall the application.

  • Open Switches using advanced search

    Hi
I have integrated some Acrobat open parameters in a JavaScript which should search some keywords after opening the PDF document.
    Like this:
    http://example.org/doc.pdf#search="word1 word2"
This works fine so far, only that it would not accept several words (any of the keywords should fit), if the Reader is not set to allow search by several keywords in the advanced search options of the reader. Otherwise, the reader's search is taking the words as one phrase and would not deliver any search results.
Does anyone know, if it is possible to configure the advanced search options by an open parameter (switch) adding to the link above?
    Thanks
