Advanced Slideshow -- Can it be copied to another Mac?

I've created an iPhoto 5 advanced slideshow with custom timing, etc. Is there a way to move this slideshow to another Mac?

There is a way but it would involve duplicating your current library folder and giving it a name like Slideshow Library. The launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, locate Slideshow Library and open it. Now delete all the photo but those in the slideshow. Then close iPhoto.
Now copy the Slideshow Library folder to the other Mac. Using iPhoto Buddy on the other Mac the user can easily move between the original library on that Mac and the Slideshow Library.
However you will have to reapply the audio because it will not carry over the audio tracks. If they don't have the same tracks you may have to select others. Not the best solution overall. That's about the only way you can do it.

Can't audio chat with another Mac user who is using AIM but I can when they are using iChat. Is there a way that I can fix this problem.

The Mac OS X version of AIM is not capable of audio or video chats. There is no way around this.

There really isn't any workaround to the cost. You can't get the parts needed to fix it yourself. Only Apple has those parts and they do not sell them to end users.
Sure you could take it apart and clean everything and the screen might start working again but then it might not. Depending on what cause it to stop working in the first place. Like something got shorted out.

  • Black Screen - Get Chime - Can Boot off HDD using another Mac - iMac 24in.

Hope someone can help me here, as I'm at my wits end.
    I've got two issues, one with my MacBook Pro 17in, 4GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm (2008) and another with my iMac 24in. 4GB RAM, 500GB 7200rpm (2009).
Firstly the MBP, left work on Thursday last week, got home, powered up the MBP and got a black screen!!! Tried resetting PRAM, SMC, booting in safe mode, removing and re-installing RAM, removing battery and mains power and leaving off overnight etc etc, yet nothing happens. Benn all over the forums and have not found any solution to get my beloved MBP working on it's own. I can boot off the HDD using another MBP 15in, re-install Snow Leopard and as far as I can tell the HDD is fine, as I have run disk utility and it tells me the HDD is OK.
I can't figure this out and it's doing my head in, as I use this laptop for business use and just can't afford to go out and buy another Mac. I should point out that this MBP never had any issues when running on Leopard, but ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, I have had nothing, but trouble. I did a clean install, in fact I have done it at least twice, even erasing the HDD securely, both at 7pass and 35pass, yet I have had permissions issues regularly and on the odd occasion, I have also had the problem of the HDD not being recognised.
The iMac is nearly the same, but the screen is working, although the iMac doesn't see the HDD no matter what way I do, again, reset PRAM, SMC, safe boot etc etc. In truth the iMac has been a lot more unreliable, but with the screen working, if I can get any solutions here, then I'll be working to work on that without the need or hassle of working via another.
I think that the MBP is only just still under warranty, but the iMac definitely is, but I need at least one working for business use, so really only want to let Apple have one at a time to look at/repair etc.
Ideally, as the HDD is working in the MBP, if I could get a solution to the black screen issue, then I could do without the iMac for whatever time it takes, so if there is anyone out there that can help, I'd be so grateful.
One last thing, when I bought the iMac 24in., I also bought an iMac 20in., but I never upgraded the 20in. to Snow Leopard and to this day, it has worked flawlessly, without a single issue ever.
Perhaps, I'm getting paranoid here, but there seems to me to be a link between the ongoing and regularly occurring problems with both Macs ant the upgrade to Snow Leopard. Why also, or is it just pure unadulterated coincidence that both the MBP and the iMac 24in have failed at pretty much the same time??!!!!
I'm going mental here, so I hope someone out there has a better fix, then me overdosing on Prozac!!
    PS
I'm not a mac expert, not good with a soldering iron either, but I'm capable of following good instructions.

Using Snow Leopard forum is probably your best bet.
I don't care if someone has 20+ yrs, I still like having a good troubleshooting book/manual handy.
Mac: can't get by without bootable backups, even if you use TimeMachine, clone your system. Save you all this fuss and work.
Then invest in high quality disk repair and maintenance program.
    Disk Warrior / TechTool Pro 5 / Drive Genius 3 - top 3 probably
There are always going to be normal items you just ignore with Repair Permissions. Useful to do once in a while but not magic. Same with SMC and the rest. Running disk repair is one of those things that it seems should be done before there is trouble, not after, and a weakness in HFS file system and disk directory.
Apple Support is a good place to start looking and then hardware category.

    http://www.apple.com/support/imac /macbookpro etc
Make sure all your software is current, don't install anything you are unsure of or can do without.
Run Apple Hardware Test off your OEM DVD specific to the Mac.
Now, have you Googled for this?
have you looked at reports about 500GB drives used in some Macs that had issues and were offered firmware update for the drive?
Considered just using another drive connected to iMac?
You can overheat a hard drive with needlessly running 7 and 35-write pass, besides which the best way to map out bad blocks is not Disk Utility.

I'd direct your replies to iMac and MacBook Pro as well as to Using OS X Snow Leopard areas.

  • Custom Camera Raw settings not being recognised after copying to another mac

Images captured on MacBook Pro and custom settings applied in Camera Raw, images then transferred to Mac Pro via USB are opened on Mac Pro using Adobe Bridge CS6, Camera Raw doesn't recognise the custom setting and opens using the setting used last time in Camera Raw.
How do you retain the custom settings when transferring images and opening on another mac, the files are CR2 and the xmp files are also copied as well.

...and you did copy the xmp files as well as the RAW files to the second computer?

  • Can I download iPhoto from another Mac?

    Hi guys,
I have an iMac running Mavericks, and also a MacBook Pro 2011. I accidentally deleted iPhoto on the iMac, and since iPhoto comes pre-installed, I have it on the MacBook Pro. Do you think it is a good idea for me to copy the .app file and place it in my Applications directory on the iMac?
I just don't want there to be any problems if I do this.
    Thanks

As long as you properly accepted the iLife apps into your Mac App Store account (you should see them with all the other apps in the Purchases list) when you first configured the new Mac, then there should be no issue copying the app to another Mac that you own or control.

  • Can I restore backup from another mac with time machine?

I would like to restore files from a TM backup from another Mac - is this possible? Thanks.

I'm not sure I know how to help. I use OS X Server's Time Machine services from a Mac Mini to do my back ups to a drive connected to that server. I have the same user account on one MBP Retina that does not do back ups as another MBP Retina that DOES back ups. However, I can't even open the sparse bundle from the one that doesn't do back ups of the one that does (if that makes sense).
You might try and see if this link helps. This guy was the TM guru around here. He might have addressed a solution to what you're trying to do.

  • Can a User's System Preferences be copied to another Mac?

I manage a school computer lab with about 40 Macs (iMac G3s and eMacs). All are running 10.3.9. I configured one computer how I wanted it, made an image, then restored all the others basically making clones. I created a "Student" user. In time I realized I needed to tweak some of the privileges for the student user, but I want to avoid having to go in as an admin to each computer and resetting the security settings for students. Thinking these settings must be saved somewhere, why couldn't I just copy the settings to the other computers? I tried copying the com.apple.systempreferences.plist from my admin Library/Preferences folder since this appeared when I did a Date Modified search, but that didn't do it? Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. I'm out on medical leave for a few days, so I haven't had a chance to try it. But, please clarify: When you say the preferences, am I to understand you mean all the preferences in both the root library and the user library? Also, the users are all the same (Student), so there shouldn't be any account differences, but thanks for the reminder.

  • Back To My Mac: why can't I copy files between Macs?

I use Back To My Mac to connect between a Mac Book Pro and Mac Pro. These two machines have the same home directory name, but different passwords. My home network is on an Apple Airport Extreme.
A recent, persistent bug is causing havoc when I try to copy files between computers. Here is what happens:
    1. I connect to the Mac Pro remotely from the MBP, using my Apple ID credentials.
    2. Using a finder window on my Mac Book Pro, I try to copy a file TO the Mac Pro desktop that I'm certain doesn't already exist there. A "Preparing to copy" window appears.
    3. After a few moments, a window appears: "Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this." Again, I've already entered my Apple ID to connect to the Mac Pro. This window requires my Mac Book Pro sign-in in order to continue.
    4. The next message is 'A newer item named “FileName.pdf” already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the older one you’re moving?'
Here are the results of my options from this dialog:
    >>If I choose 'Keep Both Files':
-- A progress window appears (saying something like "copying 0 of 108 kb", but without any progress bar movement). I click the X button to stop the transfer, the progress window changes to "stopping" status, but remains on the screen for several minutes. My Mac Pro is unresponsive/unreachable via BTMM during this time.
-- After several minutes, the file transfer progress window disappears and my Mac Pro becomes available again via BTMM. There are now several THOUSAND numbered copies of the original. Each is 0 kb in size.
    >>If I choose 'Replace':
-- A progress window appears, quickly followed by this message: 'The operation can’t be completed because an item with the name “” already exists.' The message appears exactly as written, without the filename between the quotes.
-- A file with the same name as the one I tried to copy over is now on the Mac Pro desktop, but it is 0 kb in size.
I'm lost -- not sure if this is a permissions issue, a problem w/ BTMM, or something else. Any input, advice, questions, etc. are very welcome.
    Thanks

I'm having the exact same issue, did you find a solution. It's annoying!

  • Can't Edit Project From Another Mac

I'm trying to finish an iMovie project that I started in iMovie '05 on my PowerBook G4, but that computer is too full to run iMovie properly and so instead of taking the time to clean that computer, I decided to use my girlfriend's new MacBook to do the job on a better processor. Unfortunately, when I started to try and add transitions, it doesn't let me adjust the duration of the photo, since the photo library the project was created from cannot be found on this computer. If I don't adjust the times, then the transitions will just cut down the display times of all of my photos that I add them to. Does anyone have any advice in this situation or any workarounds that I could try? Thanks!

Not having done the procedure that you are doing, I can only speculate.
In a test project, I imported a photo into iMovie from my iPhoto library. Then I deleted that photo from my iPhoto library and emptied the trash. I was still able to change the duration of the photo in iMovie by using the Show Photo Settings box, even though the photo was no longer in my iPhoto library. (But I could not adjust the duration by control clicking on the photo and going into the Show Info box.) The above leads me to believe that your problem is not related to your photo having been created in the library of another computer. The photo would still be in your iMovie media file that you brought with you when transferring the project, and that's all that should be required for iMovie to edit it.
I think that your problem may be that the version of iMovie running on your girlfriend's computer is incompatible with iMovie5 that you used to create your project. Is she running iLife 08 and iMovie 6.0.4? Or exactly what? It it's iM6.0.3, you should be getting a little dialogue box that asks if you want to update your old version.
Or, it may be that the iMovie version on your girlfriend's computer is not working properly. You might consider shutting down iMovie and trashing the com.apple.iMovie.plist file located in User/Library/Preferences. iMovie will create a new .plist file on relaunch. Then do a permissions repair using the Utilities/Disk Utility app.
I am not running iLife 08, if that's what your girlfriend is running, so don't know if the above will work. It is a procedure that is commonly used when running iMovie 6.0.3. But use at your own risk.
Perhaps others on this forum will weigh in with other suggestions.
    Good luck with this.

  • Repeated copies when copying to another mac in finder

When I try to copy (push) files to my other mac (older PowerMac G4 with 10.5.8) over ethernet connection I get multiple (like thousands, seem to stick in a loop) copies of the same file.

To copy Apple Mail Rules from one computer to another, both running Lion, copy the files below:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/SyncedRules.plist
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/UnsyncedRules.plist
The SyncedRues are synced with iCloud.
The files need to be coppied to exactly the same location on each machine.
IMPORTANT: Apple Mail rules cannot be shared between Lion & Mountain Lion (or other OS versions).
Make sure you quit Mail and save existing files elsewhere (outside Library) before copying files.
    I hope it helps.

  • Can AVCHD be copied to a mac and ingested later?

Would it be possible to offload video from a SDHC card being shot with AVCHD using by using a high capacity card reader, and later ingesting it into FCP using Log and Capture while the file already resides on the mac?
    Thanks.

Hi. I'm no expert, but here has been my AVCHD "workflow" using the Panasonic HDC-SD1.
    1. I capture my material to 8GB class 6 SDHC card
    2. I remove the card from camera, place it in my sonnet expresscard34 card reader, insert into MBP
    3. I copy the card contents, with its directory structure to an external fast FW800 disk
    4. I run Toast to burn that directory to a dual layer DVD, with verification
    5. I store the DVD in a case in my DVD storage rack
    6. I start Final Cut Pro
    7. I type shiftapple8 to run log and transfer, invoking FCP's ProRes transcoding ingest
    8. With the log and transfer window open, I click the disk icon, select the BDMV directory
    9. FCP loads icon view of the clips (.mts files) that are in the Stream directory under BDMV
    10. I select a clip in the icon view, and preview its contents in the clip viewer to the right
    11. I highlight the clips which I want to ingest (ProRes will transcode) and click Add to Selection
    12. I take a break, since it will take a while to ingest all 80 minutes of material
    13. I then edit in FCP as I normally would
So, I hope this helps anyone using AVCHD footage, but I also would like to hear what some of you are using in the way of presets in Final Cut Pro's audio/video settings with the AVCHD footage.
    Regards
