Advanced uses of headsets

I am looking to integrate the BH-501 headset with a system to provide a 'hard of hearing' person with access to entertainment sources aswell as speech devices so they can hear other people.
I have linked the BH-501 with a Bluetooth dongle on a PC and I believe there are also audio transmitters which work with Bluetooth headsets and plug into TV's, hi-fi's and mp3 players.
It would be great to have these work in the way that linked mobile phones do and will interupt the normal use if a call comes in.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

I have a question about using the headset jack in my car. When the iphone is plugged into my radio, how are phone calls received. Does the audio come through the car speakers or do you use the phone like you would with out it hooked up to the car.

The audio does not come out through the headphone jack to your car speakers. Phone call audio uses the built-in speaker and microphone, or a Bluetooth headset if one is paired. I have noticed that if I connect the aux patch cable +while a call is in progress+, audio is sent out to the car stereo.

Yes you can use earphones or earbuds. You can use iPhone or iPod earbuds and there are many other headphones that will work with the iPad - and bluetooth headphones wiill work as well.

Using 2 headsets at one time

I was wondering if it's possible to use a headset in the audio output and a usb headset at the same time and/or 2 usb headsets at one time?
If the osx doesn't support this then is there an app that does?

Set output to headphones in "Sound" system preference. Start Audio Hijack Pro.
Click the "Input" tab and set "Source Type" to "System Audio".
Click the "Effect" tab and select "Auxiliary Device Output" from "4FX Effects".
In the "Auxiliary Device Output" window, set the output device to the USB device.
Click the "Hijack" button. Make sure the "Mute" button os off.

Why do I get static sound when I use a headset splitter iwith my macbook air 13"?

Why do I get a static sound when I use a headset splittter with my macbook air? The headphone works perfectly but when I put the mic in the splitter, the sound gets a little bit static. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Proximity Sensor: What if Apple told everyone to use their headsets?

That's essentially what they're doing by providing free bumpers. Not everyone is going to need it, cuz not everyone is going have reception problems. Though, the underlying cause for reception error (placing the antenna in an area where a user is likely to bridge it) will still be there.
My point is, what if for those people experiencing the Proximity Sensor issue, Apple just decided to say hey... use the speakerphone, use the supplied headset, or just hold it away from your face?
At least they finally addressed the problem, but it seemed like an after thought. Till the problem is fixed, I've been using the headset, but the thing is I shouldn't have to.
BTW: I can't return it, cuz my 3G is gone and my ultra-durable-scratch-resistant screen cracked (my fault, I know :p)

Nah.. I was experiencing the problem before I accidently dropped the phone. I had took it in to an Apple store, and they offered to replace the phone for me, but I had to come back when I had more time and a day off from work. Well the day, I was supposed to come in, was the day I dropped my phone. MY BAD!!!, oh well.. hopefully it's a simple software fix.

Fm radio while using bluetooth headset

Hi folks
How do I listen to the fm radio while using bt headset ?
I must be a lucky one as my bh 505 headset is still going after around 9 months. I do keep it under my car sunvisor so maybe it gets dried out. Impressive sound, better bass and volume than standard headet. Bh 505 battery will last longer than 8 hrs continuos play at work.

You need a wired headset to listen to the radio.
I saw a post the other day on this forum of a guy who claimed to get fm reception using just a male 3.5mm connector.
It makes me wonder if you can use a wire with a connector from old headphones cut to a certain length just to receive the radio wave and play via bluetooth.
I think it's about time Nokia made an antenna for the radios to give us more options.

I had this problem with my 4s a couple of times when I'd taken the headphones out and it hasn't registered it. My solution was easy, all I had to do was turn the phone off and then on again.
Although I'm sure you've already tried this its a sometimes forgotten and very easy solution to a lot of problems. I hope you find out what's wrong.

Upon using USB Headsets the audio gets distorted

I have used USB headset in other laptops including HP but have never faced this problem. But I get this problem with the new notebook, and after a few minutes of use the audio quality automatically gets distorted and loud.
This is not a problem with the USB headsets since I have been using them since long without any problem, and they dont give me any distortion with other notebooks even today.
Please advise.

The headset has an independent C-Media audio chip that accepts USB on one side and has it's own AC97/DAC. Because are 2 devices (one USB controller and one AC97 sound chip) apears in 2 places in Windows devices! For more info look here:

So trying to use the USB headset via the X-Fi is like you are trying to use the on-board soundcard via the X-Fi...

Can I use my headset for "sound-out" and phone mic...

I have an E51 and the headset that came with it. I would like to achieve the following during calls: To use the headset for sound-out (i.e. as headphones) and the phone mic for sound-in. The mic on the headset gives a lot of static and I would rather use the phone mic (girlfriend complains).
So I tried this: Under Tools>Settings>General>Enhancement, I set the Default to Headphones.
Still, when I connect my headset it says "Default Enhancement: Headset" and the headset mic is automatically used.
The default enhancement settings does not seem to matter.
Does anyone know if there is a way to solve this? Is there a way to manually switch between the headset and phone mics?

Thanks for the reply. I am not using a bluetooth headset but a cabled one (that one that came with the phone for me -- I guess nokia skimped a bit here, not shipping with a bt headset).
I was recently told basically the same thing you are saying in a store, that it is not possible to use the mic for sound-in during a headset call. He also said that any cabled headset or even *headphones* will be recognized as a headset by nokia phones because they all have the same 3 connectors (right, left, mic) on the 2.5mm jack. Can that really be right?
So that means that even if I get a set of cabled headphones for my e51, I will not be able to use them for sound-out during a call?

Is is possible to use my HDW-3 headset with Skype? My laptop's bluetooth enabled & I can pair the headset qwith it. I don't know how to tell Skype to use the headset (if it's possible).

basicly you need to find a way to make sure you are NOT using the microsoft bluetooth stack which has no support for a bluetooth headset. skype now sells a nice motorola kit from its store as well that does everything for you if you dont want to get to technical.

X6 Headest - Cannot use my headset as a handsfree ...

Hello everyone!
From some reason I cannot use my headset (the ones that came with the X6) as a handfree kit.
I plug them in - choose Headset option - but cannot hear anything when someone calls me or when I call someone else. Am I missing something???
I haven't experienced any problems with the music player. When I choose the Headphones option to listen to music everything is noraml. However, I am not able to control the music (play/pause, fwd, next, sound) with the remote. Why is that???

Yeah not that fast, but sometime when we plug-in the jack half way and then after a pause we push it down, phone doesn't understand what it is, and a pop-up comes up saying select Accessory. (At least from my experience)

Listen to Radio using Buetooth Headset

Hello,
I have paired my N95 to the BH-501 Bluetooth Headset and am able to listen to music from Music Player.
I would like to use this headset to listen to live Radio Programs from the Radio Application (Not Internet Radio).
Any Ideas?

Unfortunately that's not possible.
It a sound theory but it doesn't work.
The explanation that was given to me is that FM radio is an all analog audio thing, so that it can't be transmitted to the BT headset since that will require first to convert it to digital.
It's a lame argument, but unfortunately it's the truth...

Using bluetooth headset causes OSX to freeze regularly

I'm having problems using my Bluetooth Plantronics P590 headset. It causes OSX to become unstable. I've been using it for 2 days, and had about 4 crashes (OSX locking up) during that time. When I use the headset, lots of times my bluetooth Mighty Mouse becomes jittery (annoying but not more than that, and solvable by turning the mouse off and on). However, sometimes it just completely freezes my machine (the screen turns grey and a message appears in several languages saying I need to restart my computer by holding the power button). The last log sent to Apple looks like this:

When using the headset in combination with Skype, there are outgoing audio troubles (see http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=137331). I do feel though that that is a Skype problem, because I can record audio fine using Audacity. I just thought I'd mention it here as it might be important.
So basically the problem seems to be that using the bluetooth headset compromises the stability of OSX. I am using two more bluetooth devices (Mighty Mouse + wireless Apple keyboard).
I am now using my USB headset again and things work as expected, lockups do not appear anymore so it really seems to be related to the bluetooth headset.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Same problem, I'm using a Kensington 33348 USB Bluetooth adapter and a Cardo S2 Headset. Have been using the Kensington for over 6 months with other devices now and then. Just paired the S2 headset today and have had two kernel panics when listening to music. Not Good. So I wonder if the problem is the Kensington, the Cardo, or OS X Bluetooth.
