I was just wondering if there is any way to run advanced video FX in a limited account?My kids would like to use it when they talk to there friends on MSN messenger. I am using windows XP

You could use Elgato Systems' EyeTV product to view external video sources on your MBP.
There is additional cost involved, but it would achive what you want. You can buy the Hybrid product, and connect your external DVD player via Composite (red, white and yellow connectors) to your MBP via the EyeTV.

Automatic update doesn't work for limited account in windows XP sp3

Hello,
When I try update firefox using search for update in "about firefox" window with a limited account in Windows XP sp3, it searched (circle is running) then nothing happens (circle continues running with the text "search for update" continues showing). Automatic update never happens too even with option "install automatically updates" checked. The option "Use a background service for install updates" is checked too. This behaviour begins with Firefox 29 (Australis theme). Updates worked on previous version. I used Firefox with French localization so maybe my translation of menus, options and buttons are not right. I try to give "modify" rights for the limited account on "Mozilla Firefox" folder and "Mozilla Maintenance Service" folder but it doesn't work too. Is it a known bug ? I found on bugzilla this ( https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=711475 ) but it is said resolved fixed. Or there is an another solution ? Thanks for your support.

I used full installers for install Firefox. Reinstallations (uninstallation, restart pc then installation) with limited account and administrator account don't allow automatic updates for limited accounts. Only automatic updates for administrator account worked and work for both of reinstallations. Manual updates work but don't solve this problem.

Every time I click on advanced video fx it keeps coming up you require administrator rights. I am on Windows Vista and only have one user account which is also the administrator. Any ideas please?

I would start with - if the music is bought from iTune store (a fix for a known
problem) to save it out as an audio CD (.aiff) else it will look OK till You try
Your DVD disk = No sound.
Then I would start a new iMovie project and from media button select photos
and drop one start photo from iPhoto down into timeline. Then I would import
the music from the new CD.
Cont to put photos one at a time into timeline. Change duration so that they
match the tempo in Your movie.
Transitions
Effects
etc.
Save from time to time to keep safe.
When the "movie" is done - close iMovie and open iDVD and drop Your movie
project icon into this - or - use the import function in iDVD.
DON'T Share/Export from iMovie to iDVD - it will destroy Your movie by a bad
rendering work. iDVD does this so much better.
I don't know any way to use the "themes" in iDVD into iMovie. Sorry

Could someone help me with accessing a program for a limited account holder

Hi I just updated my G4 Mirror door computer with 10.4.7 and I cannot allow a user to use a specific software application through parental controls. The user has access through "get info" (can read & write) but when I use the accounts settings/parental controls/locate and then add the application it seems to add it fine. I then click "ok" and when I open "locate" again to see if it has added the program to allow the user to use it; it isn't there. I tried running repair permissions; repair permissions from the install disc (locks up the machine) and reinstalled the software (Carrara 5) with no success. I also updated a G4 powerbook & a different G4 machine and the programs work fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The description is similar to a problem that was fairly common under "Panther" - complaints in "Tiger" still do pop up occasionally, but not as often so it may be a different issue. Under "Panther", the problem (which I don't think was ever resolved) was that the act of attempting to view the state of the system resulted in changes to the system. For whatever reason, the "Accounts" pref pane was not able to read 'mcx_settings' (where user limitations settings are stored), causing it to display incorrect information which was then saved when the pref pane was closed again. A workaround for that problem was to configure the user limitations, immediately closing the pref pane, and resisting the temptation to open the "Limitations" tab (now called "Parental Controls") - as long as the "Accounts" pref pane wasn't given the opportunity to overwrite the settings, the user was able to access the programme.
There is another fairly common problem affecting user limitations where programmes lacking eg. a (unique) 'CFBundleIdentifier' can't be added to the "allowed" list. The fact that the current programme can be added on other machines suggests that this is not the issue here, but if there are older versions of the programme, or perhaps other programmes from the same company, their presence might affect the system's ability to recognize the specific programme so if any potential conflicts exist, it might be worth trying to hunt them down and eliminating them.
A different approach might be to try using "Workgroup Manager.app" to configure 'mcx_settings' it is included with the "Server Admin Tools" which can be downloaded from Apple. It may not be as user friendly as the "Accounts" pref pane, but seems to be less finicky...
By the way, if the account is a "Simple Finder" account rather than a "Some Limits" account, access to problematic apps can be granted directly by adding an "alias" file to the user's "home" directory, since "Simple Finder" doesn't actually restrict application use.

IChat4 each client can video chat with test accounts but not each other

I have two machines with iChat4. Each machine can video chat with the apple test accounts but the dreaded error 8 when trying to chat with each other.
Any Ideas?

In the Netopia turn the Firewall to Off as the settings LOw and above have some of the features I was talking about (DOS and SPI protection and Ping Blocking.)
For the TZ-180 I can only find info on the TZ -170
This site tells you how to do Port Forwarding.
The main point off linking you to it is it also tells you the default Access Info.
It is likely to be the same for this device your Buddy has.
I would not do the Port Forwarding straight away.
I would check the menu items to see if it has UPnP and that it is Enabled rather than Port Forwarding.
I would also check for the features or the wording of any firewall before resorting to setting the Port Forwarding.
I notice that the TZ-1 70 pics that site has also shows that that particular device has a VoIP setting.
IF the 180 has this we will need to know what it says and what the wording is and if the service is used.

Problem with Advanced Video FX

Yeah.. I bought a new webcam today seems to be Creative Live!..
and I installed everything and registered my webcam on the online thing,
but still when I try to run the advanced video fx, it says no supported devices connected..
any idea whats wrong?

I'm seeing the same problem. Bought a Creative Webcam Live! camera yesterday. Tried it on two separate machines and got the exact same error. "No Supported Devices Connected".
Is there any way around this?

I try using that link but it's working fine for me. Do you have any pop-up blocker software running? You can also try disabling the IE popup blocker(Tools->Internet Setting) if you have XP service pack 2 installed.

So i kind of need step by step on how to do this.
The "if all else fails" method:
1) Copy the "missing" VOB files from your DVD to your hard drive.
2) Convert them to an iMovie '08 compression format.
3) Import them into iMovie '08 using the "Import Files" iMovie '08 File menu option.
The quick, easy, and free method of converting the VOB files would be to download an application like iSquint. (It is the "free smaller brother" of Visual Hub.) It will handle either MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files and retain their audio, has a "drop & go" batch interface for multiple file conversion and allows you to export to either MPEG4/AAC or H.264/AAC formats -- both of which are iMovie '08 compatible. If you are willing to spend $20 for the QT MPEG-2 Playback component, then I would recommend MPEG Streamclip (free) as a better work flow since it has many more features and would allow you to export to iMovie '08 compatible editing specific formats like DV or AIC.

1 dotMAC account. 2 computers. Can I video chat with these 2 computers?

Hello. I am going out of town on a business trip and would like to keep in touch with my son and wife at home. I will be bringing with me a Macbook Pro. I will be leaving at home a Powerbook running iChat xx with an external iSight camera. I have a dotMAC acct. My question is, is it possible with one dotMAC acct. to have a video chat with, essentially, myself? Or do I have to create another acct (AIM or iChat?) And if so, how would I do that? I have never realy needed to know this so I am at a loss on how to do it or if it is possible. Thank you very much.

Can't email videos taken with 4G Touch

When I take a video with my 4G Touch and try to e-mail them, they won't go. Instead, I get a message saying that there is no password associated with my email account and to go into settings and put a password in.
But I do have a password in my settings and can send regular e-mail. Why can't I send videos?

OK guys, I figured it out, and I'm posting this for the benefit of anybody else who might be having the same problem.
I noticed that when I clicked on the Advanced tab in my email settings, the Server Port on my Gen. 1 Touch was 110. However, on my Gen. 4 Touch it was 995. So I changed my new Touch's server port to 110. The problem is that it would not hold. Every time I closed out of the settings the number would revert back to 995.
So I completely Deleted my account (Comcast). I shut down my Touch and then started it up again and went into settings and clicked on Add Account. I filled in the necessary info, and clicked Save, and now my email works fine.

Hello, we are 100% invested in the MS ecosystem. We would like to find an affordable MS solution to the following so that we are not forced into using Hangouts. Thanks in advance for any advice or comments you can offer.
Objective:
Enable family members from across North America to cost effectively video conference with each other on a weekly basis.
Requirements:
R1) Multiparty video conferencing
R2) Only one user (myself) incurs an affordable cost for the service. (Else Hangouts will be lobbied for)
R3) Any subset of family members can connect to a scheduled meeting, without requiring the user who pays for the service to be in the meeting to allow them in.
*** Question #1 - Is there a solution that meets or closely meets these requirements?
SOLUTIONS CONSIDERED
Skype Premium:
* Does not meet R2 and R3.  Someone with a premium account must initiate the call and invite all of the attendees.  If the person with a premium account is not always available, then two other family members must also purchase
premium accounts to be backup call leaders.
Lync Online Plan 2:
Documentation states, "To access multiparty video (gallery view), ... , users must have rights to the full Lync 2013 client. You can obtain the full Lync 2013 client by purchasing Office 2013 Professional Plus."
I am already a subscriber of Office 365 Home Premium, buying another license of office to get the Lync client is not a reasonable expense.
*** QUESTION #2 - If it is required, is there a lower cost way to obtain the Lync 2013 client?
*** QUESTION #3 - Can a Lync meeting be scheduled with Office 365 Home Premium and Lync Online Plan 2, similar to meetings created in the enterprise environment where a link is included in the meeting request?
*** QUESTION #4 - If the person who sends the Outlook meeting request to other attendees is unable to attend, can other attendees continue to have the meeting with only their Lync Windows Store client or the Lync Web client?

You can buy Lync standalone client from a local reseller. Following website will provide list of local resellers;

Assume that you got single Lync online plan-2 license. If so , Lync attendee (guest/anonymous) would't be able to start the conference.
Lync meeting organizer should initiate the meeting every time.
