Advantage of using External service mgt
Dear All,
Can any one tell me, what is the advantage of using service master(external service mgt) over creating service as a material in material type DIEN?
Your input will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
sahu
Hello, Sahu
Before explaining the advantages of ESM, i want to clarify you about the DIEN (which is a standard material type for SERVICES)
Material type DIEN is for Services
Services can be performed internally or procured externally (outsourced). They cannot be stored or transported.
Services can be
-> Construction Services (like Centring, Shuttering) work
-> Cleaning services (House keeping)
-> Tax Consulting (Taxation for finance matters to company)
Suggestion: You can create service master for the above mentioned services using the DIEN material type. But as we know that services CAN NOT BE STORED or Transported physically. Because Service (it's just a text which indicated what service to be performed by the vendor /external supplier, that you will be mentioning in PO when you create service PO) can only be measured through PERFORMANCE (i.e, through Activity based, i mean depending upon the ACTIVITY).
That is Activity based Services can only be recorded, maintained and measured (i.e, Performances for each different activity) accurately through ESM.
like, Service master record
Standard service catalog,
Service PO,
Service Entry sheet.
And the Purpose and Advantages of the ESM is as follows:
This section provides a general introduction to MM External Services Management.
It provides an overview of the functionality, shows how MM External Services Management is integrated into the Purchasing application within the Materials Management module, and indicates the interfaces to other applications.
Purpose
MM External Services Management (MM SRV) is an application component within the Materials Management (MM) module. It supports the complete cycle of bid invitation, award/order placement phase, and acceptance of services, as well as the invoice verification process.
Features
MM External Services Management provides a basic process for the procurement of externally performed services. This basic process comprises the following functionality:
Service master records, in which descriptions of all services that may need to be procured can be stored. In addition, a standard service catalog and model service specifications are available.
A separate set of service specifications can be created for each concrete procurement project in the desired document (e.g. PM maintenance plan or maintenance order; PS network; MM purchase requisition, RFQ, contract, purchase order, or service entry sheet).
Service specifications can include items representing materials in addition to those representing services or activities.
When creating voluminous sets of service specifications, you need not laboriously enter each individual service manually. Instead, you can make use of the referencing technique and the selection function to copy quickly and simply from existing master data and documents.
MM External Services Management offers two basic ways of specifying services:
As planned services with description, quantity, and price.
By "planned services" we mean services whose nature and scope is known to you at the start of a procurement project or transaction.
At the time the services are requested, the individual specifications are entered either with the aid of a service master record or directly as short and long texts. Price and quantity are specified in both cases.
As unplanned services with the setting of a value limit only.
By unplanned services, we mean services that cannot be specified in detail because their precise nature and scope are not initially known, or services which - for various reasons - you do not wish to plan. Unplanned services therefore have no descriptions.
They are entered in the form of monetary limits. Services may be performed up to a value not exceeding these value limits. This allows you to exercise a degree of cost control in such situations.
You can analyze data already available in the system in order to find suitable sources of supply for certain services.
You can also carry out a bid invitation process and evaluate the bids submitted in response using the price comparison list function. You can then award a contract to (or place an order with) the desired vendor.
During the phase of service performance (execution of work), various lists and totals displays enable you to retain an up-to-date overview of your service specifications, the progress of the work, and the costs being incurred.
You can record the performance of services or work in service entry sheets.
You can indicate your acceptance of the work set out in the entry sheets in various ways.
Following acceptance, the vendors invoice can be verified and released for payment.
As an alternative to this basic process, various accelerated and simplified processes are made available to you for use if desired in connection with specific procurement transactions.
Integration
MM External Services Management is completely integrated into the Materials Management system. The master data for the procurement of services can be stored in service master records, for example, which subsequently provide default data for the purchasing documents. Service specifications for a concrete procurement project are not created and processed separately each time (e.g. as bid invitation or contract specifications), but entered directly in the purchasing documents (e.g. in a request for quotation, quotation, purchase order or contract).
The following graphic demonstrates the degree of integration of MM External Services Management:
The External Services Management component is linked to the SAP modules PM Plant Maintenance and PS Project System. As a result, it is possible to create purchase requisitions for external services within the framework of maintenance measures or a project and then transmit them to Purchasing without incurring additional data maintenance work.
The interaction of the R/3 modules MM, PS and PM, CO and FI saves time and effort and reduces the frequency of errors. This is because data need be entered once only, after which it is available for all follow-on activities within a business process.
An example of the integration of MM and CO is purchase order commitments. The expected value of unplanned services is forwarded to CO from within MM so that a commitment figure can be established and monitored. This enables the relevant budget for procurement measures to be prepared in good time.

Error while using external service from application service
Hello All,
I have exposed webservice from a CAF project that i am importing as external service in another CAF project. Now i am using application service to directly call the external service. following is the code in my application service:
Ns6_getCountryByCode__R inp = new Ns6_getCountryByCode__R();
inp.setNs6_countryCode(countryCode);
try {
HRServicesWSVi__DocumentLocal bn = this.getHRServicesWSVi__Document();
Ns6_getCountryByCode__RResponse result = bn.getCountryByCode__R(inp);
retValue.setCountryCode(result.getNs6_Response().getNs3_countryCode());
retValue.setCountryName(result.getNs6_Response().getNs3_countryName());
}catch(Exception e){
throw new ServiceException(e);
I am getting the following error
ERROR. Problem in server response: [Bad Request].:
What could be the problem ? Thanks in advance
Regards,
Ashutosh RastogiHello,
It's always a good idea to check the log file. In many cases you find hints what the reason for the error could be. The log file can be found here: <root>usrsap<SID>JC30j2eeclusterserver0logdefaultTrace.<xy>.trc where <root> is probably c:, SID something like F33, F41, ... and <xy> a number 0, 1, .... -> the highest number is the last and therefore most youngest log file. Please check out this file.
Another very common (but trivial) error is that you forgot to specify the URL and the end point location of your Web Service in CAF's config tool. This tutorial explains this beginning on page 20 <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/11669cea-0c01-0010-63b2-b98c35b1b370">Using a Web Service as External Service</a>.

Process Data using External Service
Hi All,
Is it possible for MDM to call external services, like web service, to process the data? Sometimes we need advanced functionalities provided by other software to process the data in MDM. Is it possible to call them during the course of validation, assignment, workflow or other MDM procedures?
Thanks + Best Regards
JeromeAs Michael pointed out, we are using Enrichment Framework for calling extenal Services.
Enrichement framework is based on Adapters written as EJB.
In addition to the link provided by Michael, you can see this webinar
https://websmp204.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_FRAME=CONTAINER&_OBJECT=011000358700002843092005E
Andreas Seifried of SAP, has clearly explained the process of setting up the Enrichment Framework with some examples as well.
Use the Service Market Place user id and password to access the above link.
Hope this helps.

Advantages to using external HD?
Hi,
I am having some difficulties sometimes with "Disk too slow" errors in Logic Express 9. Some folks have suggested to use an external HD. With the speed of Firewire and USB 2.0 compared to a HD, what are the advantages or disadvantages in using a Firewire External HD?
Please help!
Thanks!I'm still a little new at this so I need some more clarification...
You're saying I can drag an imported Event from iM08 to my external HD (after I see the HD in the Event Library) and store that Event (movie file) for later use? Will the Event file really be removed from my iMac, freeing up space? Can those files stored on the external be used in iM06 or not because they were imported with 08?
I am trying to find a way to offload video from my HDV Sony, and come back to it later to edit or do whatever with it. I don't want to bog down my iMac with video I may not get to for a long time. It'd be nice if the file was in the external and I could chose between iM06 or 08 when I was ready to work on it.
Thanks for your advice. -
Business Objects, external services and application services in CAs
Hi All,
right now we are developing our first eSOA Composite Application with CE and I have some questions regarding Business Objects, the import of external services and the development of application services.
As I understood there are two ways to provide business functionality for composite applications:
a. Import backend functionality as an external service (e.g. BAPI, RFC) at the CAF, build the application service which can be used as a callable object for UIs or the GPs
b. Develop a local Business Object (in CAF) providing the business logic, create the application service which again can be used as a callable object. Furthermore the application service can be exposed as a Web Service (external service).
My questions:
1. When is it appropriate to to import external services in stead of developing local BOs?
2. Under what conditions is it advisable to (solely) develop local BOs?
3. What are the advantages / disadvantages regarding the reusability of the services (in option a and b)?
Note: We are developing on NetWeaver 2004s.
Please let me know, if you need more information to answer the questions!
Thanks for your advice in advance,
Regards,
IvonneHi Ivonne,
first of all, the CAF Business Objects (BOs) itself don't contain any business logic, they're basically just local database tables (with some CRUD services on top).
Business logic is implemented in Application Services (AS).
Now, regarding local BO's vs. external services, it depends on your use case. If the data is already available somewhere in your backend system it makes sense to use external services. For instance you wouldn't want to store business partners all over different composites. For data that is specific to your composite (in particular configuration, customizing etc.) and not likely to be reused by other applications you should use local BOs.
Accessing local BO's is also much faster than calling external services.
You can do reuse in both scenarios, since the CAF services can be exposed as web services.

Christian

Cannot Open R/3 Transactions from EP 5.0 External Services
We are on EP 5.0 SP6, and because we are on SAP J2EE Patch 21, we are using IISProxy.dll as our ISAPI filter (instead of the SAPJ2EE Filter).
EP connects to our CRM system using SSO correctly when we run Enternal Services that point to CRM BSPs. Consequently, we know that SSO connectivity between the two systems is working.
But when we try to connect to ABAP reports using External Services (via SAP Application.Transaction Master iView), we receive a Page Cannot Be Displayed error. The External Services should open the standard SAPGui within the External Service. We know that this should work, as we have correctly openned these reports on our DEV box.

Does anyone have any idea why the External Service will not open the SAP Gui? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Steven ScullyDo you know HTTPS is allowed on your firewall? Do you use any type of load balancer? eg., F5 Big-IP .. If not put a network sniffer to monitor the traffic on your firewall to see why it displays "page cannot be disaplayed" error... Also, you may want to use Paros software to intercept HTTP and HTTPS data between server and client, including cookies and form field. This may help you to get some idea.

I have to use BAPI_ALM--RDER_MAINTAIN in my caf application
i have imported it as external service.As there are problems mapping its input fields to entity service , it has to be consumed directly vai application service.
But i ahve never done so before.Can someone give me an example as to how t do it.
If someone can give example of how to code in the application service to call the bapi , it would be great . as i have some time constraint.

External content type using wcf service
Hi,
I have been asked to create a wcf service to expose sql data and populate them in a list using external content type.i have created the service but while creating the content type it gives me error.
"The server was unavle to process the request due to an internal error. For more information about the error, either turn on IncludeExceptionDetails (either from ServiceBehaviorAttribute or from the <serverDebug> configuration behavior) on
th server in order................................"
Can anyone suggest some help.
Thanks..Hi,
Based on your description, you encountered the error when you create the content type.
You can turn on IncludeExceptionDetails or use Service Trace Viewer Tool to see the details about the error.
There is a similar case:

Issue with calling an external web service using web service proxy
Hi,
I've created several web services using JDeveloper succesfully in the past, however I'm getting an issue with one that was working ok previously. Have spoken to the developers of the external web service and they say they haven't changed anything. Also if I test the external web service through soapUI for example it seems fine so it would seem that the issue is with the autogenerated code created by JDeveloper.
Basically I get the following exception as it sends the request to the external service:
java.security.PrivilegedActionException: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: Message send failed: Bad Authentication header format: 'Basic realm="Integration Server" encoding="UTF-8"'
Expected "," at position 33
The user name/password appear correct.
JDev version 10.1.3.42.70
Any ideas?
Many Thanks
Gary
Edited by: user10916721 on 08-May-2012 09:54Found the answer. Basically I had one proxy web service working and one not both linking to a middle tier written in web methods. THe issue actually ended up being with the web methods code in that the one web service (that was not working) was put together using a backwards compatability mode. Once this was switched back then started working again in JDev.

Using XI WebService in CAF as external service with Logical Destination?
Hello,
I created a scenario WebService -> XI -> WebService in a PI7.1 system. I used the Web Service Wizard in order to generate a WSDL. If I test it for example in XMLSpy it works fine.
We then imported this WSDL into CAF as external service. That also works.
Now we have to map the CAF Service to a logical Destination. This has to be maintained in NWA. But here we need a URL to the WSDL. I cannot use the local WSDL Filed which I from that WebService Wizard.
Is there any generic URL were I can get the WSDL for the WebService which calls the XI Interface?
Thanks and Best Regards
Katharina
Edited by: Katharina Seiz on Oct 6, 2008 6:19 PMGood Idea. I tried that. I added the WSDL to a Web Module and deployed it with the CAF ear module. It is now available via: http://vmw2469.wdf.sap.corp:50000/testxi/GLAccountPostingSync_Out_PI71.wsdl
If I test it directly in WSNavigator it works fine, but if I map my CAF Service to the logical Destination which is also using that URL, I get the following error:
com.sap.engine.services.webservices.espbase.query.exceptions.TechnicalException: Deserializing WSDL stream http://vmw2469.wdf.sap.corp:50000/testxi/GLAccountPostingSync_Out_PI71.wsdl failed
If I try to find the service via the function "Search by Logical Destination" I get the following error:
