Advantaged of SUN LDAP Server over OID

Hi all,
Can any body tell me the use of SUN LDAP Server instead of Oracle Directory Server......What all advantages we have to use SUN LDAP Server instead of OID....

  • Updating Sun LDAP Server through custom create group forms

    Hi,
    we have requirement whererin we must create a create group form (custom form) and then update the new group details to the Sun LDAP server. After defining the LDAP Resource, how do I proceed in creating the resource object and configuring the same with the 'create group form ' for updating the necessary attributes in LDAP server.

    There is no way to perfrom LDAP authentication using our product without a mapped group. I haven't used it in a while but the Sun LDAP mamagement tools were very straight forward, creating users/groups issn't much trouble
    First creat the users and groups wherever in the direcotry, then in the group properties you must make the users members of the groups. Map the groups into BO and your done.
    If you wanted someone to setup both your LDAP directory and Business Objects typically a 3rd party professional service may be used. For configuring BO you can open a case with the authentication team in support if stuck. You could get some tips as most of our engineers have set up sun a few times for internal testing.

  • Sun Directory Server and OID Synchronization

    I'm having a problem with synchronizing OID with our existing Sun Directory Server. This is a one way synchronization, using Sun DS as the source, and OID as the destination. I've successfully installed OID with SSL enabled (this is part of an Oracle Portal installation), and followed what docs I could find. I created an integration profile based off the iPlanet Import profile, and imported a custom mapping profile based off a differing DIT naming convention (o=company.com vs dc=company,dc=com). I have applied an ACI that should allow the synchronization profile user to update entries on the OID side, and a user in Sun DS that has access to the appropriate areas on that side. I was able to successfully bootstrap and import all of our users, and it was also able modify the last changelog number.
    Having said all of that, incremental changes aren't propagating to OID. I'm not sure where to look or what steps to take to troubleshoot this, as I'm brand new to OID. There's an agent execution command that is blank in the integration profile, but according to what I've found that's the default and is acceptable.
    Am I missing a step here? According to the docs, all I need to do is enable the profile, and away it goes.
    One last thing I had to do to overcome an issue with the changelog number not updating was adding our internal root ca's certificate to the local JVM's cacerts file. I accomplished this with the keytool command, and it seemed to work fine. I'm unsure if it's the SSL config that is hosed and is causing this, or if it's a configuration parameter I'm missing.. but I don't have anywhere to start as far as troubleshooting is concerned.

    On your integration profile, did you set the debug level to 63? You should have a _____.aud and a _____.trc file in your $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/odi/log directory that will provide more info. Did you start your DIP server (odisrv) with the oidctl command?
    You might also look at downloading the "diptester" utility for troubleshooting OID synchronization issues.

  • Are there any rough processes for Solaris administrator to setup Sun LDAP as nameing server at Sun sparc host? like: 1st: modify /etc/nfsswitch.nfs 2nd: add LDAP server in /etc/hosts. 3rd: ......

    Besides, can we install the LDAP server in sparc hosts as nameing system? Can we use Sun LDAP server or iPlanet Directory Server? or need BIND DNS server too?

    There is a nice book from Michael Haines and Tom Bialaski: "Solaris and LDAP Naming Services" which contains all you need to configure Directory Server, LDAP, Naming Switch...

    Hi mv,
    I probably mis-spoke. It is not so much the features that are missing in Sun Web Server, as it is the availability of additional user plugins. However, that being said, I chose Sun Web Server over Apache because of security and performance. I realize additional plugins could adversely affect both of those. I have emailed Sun marketing about a specific feature for Web Dav I would like to see. This would make things much easier for people who would like to do mass hosting virtual hosting. Most of the real valuable features that gave Apache an edge, the web server team has added in version 7. I have pasted a portion of the letter I emailed to Sun marketing below about Web Dav, and my logic behind it. This as well as being able to hook the user system into standard open source databases makes for a broader solution appeal. I realize I only have one view of the market, and these are just my two cents. :-) Thanks!

    **** Letter ******
    I was introduced to Sun Web Server several years ago when we began looking at moving servers away from Microsoft technology and also bringing them into our facility. As a network and sys admin, I evaluated using different web servers out there as we had a few years to work on this project to ensure uptime and reliability. Initially, I found Sun Web Server quite confusing and looked at Apache. However, after the web interface was retooled, I found Sun Web Server quite simple and refreshing to use. Since we have to be CISP compliant for the credit card industry, security was very important to us. Not only from a code standpoint, but also from an accidental misconfiguration standpoint. In my opinion, Sun Web Server out shines Apache and other alternatives by a long shot.
    As far as the WebDav feature, what I have been looking at is how to expand and offer hosting and web services. I currently work for a small company which retails products on the web, and I also contribute to a few open source projects. Currently, I am working with http://www.mynajs.org/. We have been discussing how we could offer hosting for people wanting to try out the project. Hosting companies using Linux typically have deep hooks into the Linux operating system for managing users. For hosting, you have a whole specialized Linux stack with specialized disk quotas, users, ftp server with users based on Linux users, and mail. From my standpoint, while this works, it can become a nightmare as far as updates, system administration, patching, etc. For a business ROI, and technology footprint, this doesn't make sense. There are control panels out there that take care of some of this, but now you have another whole layer of technology to troubleshoot. If I do not want to use the Linux/Apache stack, and if I am using Java, and do not want to add Tomcat as well, what do I use? With Sun Web Server, I get the best of both worlds, one install, one piece of software, operating system separation, blazingly fast speed, out of the box clustering, one interface for management, standard serving as well as Java, and WebDav so that now I can eliminate an ftp server and reduce my footprint for security and maintenance headaches. One neat package. However, now I still have to manage and restrict users. How to do this using Sun Web Server? Right now, I have to either run an ftp server with quotas built in, or go back to the Linux operating system and work with specialized scripts an maintenance. In theory, if Sun Web Server had quotas, I have my user system with the controls I need. At the very least, if there were hooks to the WebDav system to perform custom processing on certain events, it would leave the door open for greater control of the user and system. Now if we want to offer a hosting solution, whether it be online storage, web hosting, or Java hosting, or social site, all we need is one product, Sun Web Server! With all of its features for enhancing performance, security, and much more. I might also add, that for a small companies, Sun Web Server has been a pretty much set it and forget it solution. It has been my experience for our servers to run pretty much without intervention once they are setup. With the watch dog process, if there is a problem, it is rarely noticed except for the admin watching the logs. Technically, I am not sure why anyone would choose something different than Sun Web Server. Apache is the hosting standard, but it is really Apache plus Linux. With a few more user features, I think Sun Web Server could replace the whole Apache/Linux stack, the Apache/Linux/Tomcat stack, outshine those solutions on heavy loads and high end features, and offer better ROI.

  • Getting Sun Calendar (csconfigurator.sh/comm_dssetup.pl) - my LDAP server

    I currently am trying to install a Sun Calendar server on a CentOS4
    machine which has working kerberos/ldap server access. Unfortunately
    when I try to run the csconfigurator script, despite correct entries
    and connections verified through 'ldapsearch' on a command line, I
    receive a protocol error #2 when csconfigurator tries to verify the
    connection to the LDAP server.
    I am using openldap on a ubuntu instance for the kerberos/ldap server,
    I believe that it is using v3 of LDAP. Is there anything in
    particular I need to know about how Calendar wants to access LDAP? I
    know that I saw a lot of documentation referring to Sun's Directory
    Server; all of the documentation that I dug up on this gave me the
    impression that it was just a standard LDAP server, thus leading me to
    believe that my current LDAP server should work alright.
    I would appreciate any pointers in the right direction or tips, and
    I'm certainly able to cut 'n paste any information that would be
    applicable to this issue. I really need to try to get this calendar
    server online as fast as possible, but the documentation that I've
    found seems to gloss over some of the areas where I'm having issues.
    Thanks for your time!
    -Damon Getsman

    You didn't mention which LDAP server you are using, however, JCS is really designed to work with Sun Directory Server.
    That isn't to say that one could not run JCS against OpenLDAP, etc but you would need to potentially modify the schema files that are part of comm_dssetup.pl
    The JCS 5 release notes contain product requirements:
    [http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4439/6n6jehs0r?a=view]
    The sequence is to install LDAP (nominally Sun DSEE), run comm_dssetup.pl, and then install Calendar Server against your LDAP instance.

    You most likely skipped the step of starting the installed server prior to trying to access admin URL. Please check this document:

    You can start the Administration Server in either of the following ways:

    Please, help.

    You can configure a LDAP authentication database. Once you have configured it, you will be able to see users and groups contained in the configured ldap store.
    Select a web instance configuration and select the Access Control tab. Under the Authentication Database sub tab create a new Authentication Database and select as database type LDAP Server. Make sure you provide as a bind dn a user that has sufficient permissions to read user and group entries.
    Once that is done and you applied the changes, you will be able to select your LDAP server as an Authentication Database under the Users and Groups sub tabs.

  • Where is the LDAP server in Suns Webserver?

    Attempting to run Sun's j2ee tutorial on Windows XP, specifically:
    C:\Sun\j2eetutorial14\doc\index.html
    Chapter 33: The Java Message Service API
    A Simple Example of Synchronous Message Receives
    I was under the impression that the JMS info entered in the Application Server Admin Console was going into an LDAP repository; presumably part of the Application Server. Specifically the stuff under the JMS tab eg., JMS connection Factories. However there is no server listening on port 389 where I expect an LDAP server. When I try to run the example it complains:
    C:\Sun\j2eetutorial14\examples\jms\simple>appclient -client SimpleProducer.jar jms/Topic topic 3
    Destination name is jms/Topic, type is topic
    Could not create get Environmentjavax.naming.NameNotFoundException: jms not found
    Which figures if it can't find the LDAP server.
    So my question is: what the heck is going on?
    Adam.

    Ali,
    As applmgr user, source the application env file and issue "echo $IAS_ORACLE_HOME", this should point to the directory where Apache files are installed (for example, apache executable file under bin directory).

  • Sun LDAP to SQL server provisiong

    I am a new to Sun IDM.
    I am planning to use Sun IDM for a simple provisioning requirement. We have all our external (yahoo, hotmail type) users in our sun LDAP and need to be synced (one way) to a sql server based on certain group type. So far from sun documentation I could figure out that I have to
    (1) switch on retro change log of source LDAP.
    (2) configure a active sync adapter.
    However, I am not sure where to start. I just configured the source LDAP as a resource and did a (full reconciliation) from it. Here are my questions.
    (1) should I configure the source LDAP user as "service Provider User " OR "Identity Manager User". Asking since, the users are outsider, not our employee.
    (2) After the "Load from Resource" operation I see list of accounts pulled from the LDAP. However, I don't see any other attributes other than userId (account Id) in the "List Account" page. do I have to customize the ../accout/List.jsp page ?
    (3) what are the next high level tasks to sync the changes to a sql server ?
    Thanks!

    Thank You Roman, Looks like I need some more spoon feedings to overcome the initial learning curve.
    I did what you suggested. Created two resources (Ldap & SQL Server). I could load the accounts from the LDAP resources. Now I wanted to do the followings:-
    (A) Load users from Ldap to Sql server based on the filter say "userAssociation=Finance", where 'userAssociatation' is custom attributes in the LDAP for the user object.
    (B) Continue the above said provisioning for all new users from Ldap.
    I tried to Edit "Synchronization Policy" for SQLServer resource. My question is,
    (1) Where in the "Edit synchronization policy" screen I can mention the rule "userAssociation=Finance" ?
    (2) I have enabled the "Retro Changelog Plugin" for the LDAP. Do I have to mention this somewhere for this Ldap to SQLServer provisioning ?
    Thanks!

    I have installed Infrastructure 10g, When I try to connect to OID it says LDAP server is downand not running.
    Earlier, I added one server with name as my system name and it worked and today it is not working. I want to know Where this LDAP server is and hw we can start it.

    OID사용시 LDAP SERVER의 IP ADDRESS 및 PORT 변경시 절차 (OID 9.0이상)
    ========================================================
    PURPOSE
    OID를 사용하는 경우 경우에 따라 ldap data가 저장된 시스템, 혹은 ldap process가
    구동되는 시스템의 ip나 hostname이 변경되거나 혹은 oid service를 위한 port번호를
    수정해야할 필요가 있다. 이러한 경우의 조치 방법을 정리한다.
    Explanation
    1. hostname 및 ip address 변경
    OID는 hostname이나 ip address와의 dependency가 존재하지 않는다.
    단지 oid관련 process와 ldap db를 stop한 상태에서 ip address를 변경하고
    다시 start하기만 하면 된다.
    단, ldap process를 start시킬때 ldap db와 연결하기 위해 sqlnet을 이용하는 경우,
    즉, oidctl과 oidmon command에서 connect option을 지정하는 경우 connect=부분에
    지정된 connect string에 대한 system information은 수정이 필요하다.
    이것은 일반적인 sqlnet이용시 ip변경 방법으로, db가 위치한 곳의
    listener.ora와 client (이 경우는 ldap process가 구동되는 쪽)의
    tnsnames.ora내에 host=부분이 ip address로 지정된 경우 변경된
    정보에 맞게 수정하면 된다.
    2. oid port변경
    (1) default configset의 port변경
    먼저 기존의 port를 이용해 OID manager에 연결한다.
    '서버 관리'->'디렉토리 서버'-> '기본 구성 집합' 선택 후 나타나는 오른쪽
    화면에서 일반사항/SSL 설정 tab을 선택하여 원하는 port로 기본 구성 집합을
    수정한다.
    수정 후 ldap process를 stop시킨 상태에서 oidctl, oidmon command를 이용하여
    새로 ldap process를 start시키면 변경된 port로 서비스가 된다.
    (2) 추가적인 configset등록
    기존 port를 이용해 oid manager에 연결한다.
    '서버 관리'->'디렉토리 서버'-> '기본 구성 집합' 부분에 mouse를 두고 mouse의
    오른쪽 button을 click후 '다음과 같이 생성' 을 선택한다.
    '구성집합1' 과 같은 이름으로 새로운 구성집합이 생성되면 구성집합1을 선택후,
    오른쪽 화면에서 일반사항과 SSL설정에 대해서 원하는 port를 지정한다.
    ldap process를 모두 stop한 상태에서, oidctl, oidmon command를 이용하여
    다시 ldap process를 start시키는데 oidctl command시 configset option을
    지정한다. configset은 default인 기본구성집합에 대해서는 0값을 가지며,
    예를 들어 구성집합1을 이용하는 경우, configset=1로 지정한다.
    oidctl command의 예는 다음과 같다.
    oidctl start server=oidldapd instance=1 configset=1
    수정된 내용이 잘 반영되었는지를 확인하려면, oidctl start 후 ldap db내의
    ods.ods_process table을 조회해 보거나, 혹은 다음과 같이 ldap bind를 통해 변경된
    port로 oid가 서비스 되는지 확인해 볼 수 있다.
    D:\ora9i\bin>ldapbind -h 152.69.45.201 -p 4032
    bind successful

  • Over-riding the class javax.faces.context.FacesContext: SUN App Server 9.1

    The method to over ride the faces context has changed between SUN Application Server 8.2 and 9.1, as a result the instructions which were previously provided on the MyFaces wiki (http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/Installation_and_Configuration) no longer work. What I am looking for is instructions that will allow me to use our own faces jars and not (javaee.jar) which is provided as part of the application server.
    What I need to do is to get Sun Application Server 9.1 to allow me to over ride the faces context /javax/faces/context/ with that from my local jars, in version 8.X the following steps were enough:
    Start 8.X instructions:
    1. Change the config security file so that MyFaces <http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/MyFaces> can delete it's temporary files.
    Change permission
        java.io.FilePermission <http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/FilePermission> "<<ALL FILES>>", "read,write";to
      java.io.FilePermission <http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/FilePermission> "<<ALL FILES>>", "read,write,delete";2. Prevent the sun reference implementation from being used
    In your WEB-INF, create a sun-web.xml file containing
        <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
        <sun-web-app>
        <class-loader delegate="false"/>
        </sun-web-app>3. That way, myfaces classes will be loaded instead of Sun RI ones.
    And prevent MyFaces <http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/MyFaces> from loading the Sun RI context listener
    By creating in your webapp a "fake"
    com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener
    <http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/ConfigureListener> that will be loaded BEFORE the sun RI one's.
    The war file I am making available as a test case has just such a file in my case it is called fakefaces.jar
    End instructions for 8.2
    However these steps have changed for version 9.1 as following the exact same procedures does not result in the Application Server using the correct jars, the following is a test using a simple find.jsp, notice how Application Server 9.1 is still using the default jars and not the ones shipping with included as part of my testApp.
    Within the war file is a jsp called find.jsp using this I can check which jar file file is being used for any class in my case I'm interested in the the /javax/faces/context/FacesContext.class, in 9.1 it always uses teh copy from javaee.jar and never teh local copy:
    For example running: http://<ip address>:<port>/test/find.jsp?class=javax.faces.context.FacesContext
    Version 9.1 returns: file:/u01/software/Apps/SunAppServer9.1/lib/javaee.jar!/javax/faces/context/FacesContext.class
    Version 8.2 returns: file:/u01/software/Apps/SunAppServer8.2/domains/domain1/applications/j2ee-apps/TestApp/test_war/WEB-INF/lib/myfaces-api.jar!/javax/faces/context/FacesContext.class
    Hence 9.1 is still using the copy provided by SUN and not our copy.
    The code for find.jsp is:
    <%
        String className = request.getParameter("class");
        Class theClass;
        try
            theClass = Class.forName(className);
            java.net.URL url = theClass.getResource("/" + theClass.getName().replace('.', '/') + ".class");
            out.println(url.getFile());
        catch (ClassNotFoundException e)
            // TODO Auto-generated catch block
            out.println(e);
    %>-------------------------------------------------
    Any idea how to over-ride the FacesContext class in version 9.1 to allow for similar functionality as 8.X
    Thanks,
    ERIC GANDT

    Alright, I've narrowed it down to my Customization Class. I attempted to have my customization class PortalCC in a JAR file, excluded it from the WAR file and added the JAR in the lib directory of the EAR file, as described on:
