Advantages of MDM PI adapter oer FTP

Hi all,
Can u please tell me the advantages of MDM - PI adapter over the FTP apart from the discussions that are given in the PDFs .  Also Would like to know with using MDM adapter how can we route the files to respective folders which can be done using the FTP by just specifying the path in CC. How the same result can be acheived using MDM PI adapter.

Vinithra

Hi,
If you have MDM at sender or receiver then MDM PI Adapter will be more useful as MDM PI Adapter enables direct communication between MDM and PI.As explained in above advantages there will be  a tighter MDM PI integration as well as message monitoring. As MDM is also a SAP's  Data Repository system(mainly used to remove duplication of data),with the help of MDM PI Adapter you can see the complete flow if the data got correctly updated in MDM or where it when wrong. If you use simple  FTP, u can see with respect to file adapter only , you need to check in MDM seperatley again for checking if it got correctly updated.

Anika.

  • Could not process due to error: com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 550

    Hi Experts,
We have many File to EDI scenarios wherein XI System pick up the XML and sent to customers via EDI. Recently we faced a problem so created a Back-up System (Production copy) and tested successfully. After sometime the messages were routed to this back-up system and when we notice it and then stopped the back-up system. All the messages that were routed to back-up system, we try to send the same messages from the actually Production system to our customers. Now the problem is XI system (Production system) is unable to pick these files and I check the communication monitoring and encountered the below error message.
Could not process due to error: com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 550.550
Can anyone let me know how to fix the issue or what needs to be done?
    Your help is highly appreciated.
    Regards

    Hi,
It seems to be problem with permission of files. Please ask your basis to do following:
    1. Set the permissions to FTP User you are using as 777 rights(full access to read , write and delete)
2.If you have access to PI server, try to telnet /connect to ftp using command prompt (open ftp .....) the FTP server form there, you should see the same error there , inform this to your network guys.
3.Clear all the files places already in the ftp (take backup) and test afresh after permissions are set by basis team.

  • Cant do a file get from external server using file sender adapter with ftp

    Hi all,
Up until now our company has only used the file sender adapter with ftp protocol to get a file from our XI server for processing and input the file into an integration process
I have a requirement to do an ftp file get from an external server
From our XI development server I can ftp directly to the external server and view the required directory using the command window via a DOS prompt (FTP open ...).  So all firewall issues and communications are fine
Unfortunately I cannot currently pull files from the external server using the XI file adapter with ftp protocol from the XI development server AWB017
FTP Connection Parameters: External server name using port 21, Data Connection is Passive, No security, I supply a userid and password
Processing Parameters: Processing Mode is Archive (I tried test but this did not work either)
No messages appear in the RWB
Is there something else that I need to set up in order for the external ftp get to work via the XI file adapter?
    Regards,
    Mike

    Thanks for your responses.
I have found the error messages in the File Adapter Monitor
    Scenario 1
When I prefix the source directory with a forward slash, eg <b>/Folder/Subfolder</b> the error message is as follows
<b>EST: Error: Error connecting to ftp server 'ip address': FTPEx: /Folder/Subfolder: The system cannot find the path specified</b>
    Scenario 2
When I DO NOT prefix the source directory with a forward slash, eg <b>Folder/Subfolder</b> a different error message is returned
<b>Error: Retrieving file 'FILENAME.XML' failed unexpectedly: FTPEx: Folder/Subfolder: The system cannot find the path specified</b>
At least in this scenario the adapter has been able to identify the file on the external FTP site but cannot retrieve it
    Questions
I thought that the backslash prefix for the source directory was mandatory but I am receiving an error in each scenario
I receive the same error message whether the Processing Mode is 'Archive' or 'Test'
The logs on the external ftp server seem to indicate that I am simply connecting, sending username and password then quiting straight away. I am not issuing any commands that they can see
I thought that being a Sender adapter it would inherently execute a Pull or Get command
To recap, from our XI development server I can ftp directly to the external server and view the required directory using the command window via a DOS prompt (FTP open ...). So all firewall issues, communications, userid and password are fine
    Has anyone experienced these issues?
Please advise on next course of action?
    Regards,
    Mike

    hi amit,
    can you
    1. check whether the access to FTP is Authenticated, if so provide the username and password
    2. try giving different file name at the receiver end
    3. try normal ftp commands to access the folder

  • File Sender Adapter with FTP protocol

    Hi,
I implementet a file sender adapter with FTP protocol. There is a problem: the sender processes the files even if they're in use by another application.
I.E. If another application put files (via ftp) in the sender work directory (that is on ftp), the sender processes those files before their transfer is completed.
I don't want that this sender in a communication channel in PI 7.1, imports files in the system when they aren't completed yet.
There are some ways to block sender before it processes incompleted files (in an ftp)?
    Thanks
    Matteo

    Hi,
File sender adapter provides a check for NFS mode
    +Check this
To specify additional parameters in the adapter configuration, set the Advanced Modeindicator.
    ●      Msecs to Wait Before Modification Check
Enter the number of milliseconds that the adapter must wait before it checks whether the files have been changed.
This parameter is not available if you have selected File Content Conversion as the Message Protocoland then made an entry under Recordsets per Message that splits an input file into several messages.
This parameter is applicable only for the File adapter. If you enter a value in this field when configuring the sender FTP adapter, it will have no effect.+
Other approach can be to apply OS level checks

  • Com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 550

    Hi,
I have the below error in my sender file channel. I also read the following thread
    FTP Error
    Error:
An error occurred while connecting to the FTP server '10.12.12.101:21'. The FTP server returned the following error message: 'com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 550 C:Inetpubftproot: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. '. For details, contact your FTP server vendor.
The above thread suggests me to change the setting in the IIS. Should do that settings in the PI server or the source FTP server.
Also does anybody have any other solution to this problem.
    Rgds,
    Mithun

    HI,
If you're using an FTP server you need to know the path to the file on the FTP.
To do this I suggest to connect to the FTP using Internet Explorer and navigating the FTP folders until reaching the right one.
Then on the url bar you should got something like this: "ftp://server:21/path/to/file/". Use "/path/to/file" as value for the file adapter configuration.

  • Com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 421

    Hi Guys,
I am getting these two error messages:
    1) com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 421 Maximum session time exceeded - closing
    2) com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 421 Too many users - please try again later
when XI Sender File Adapter tries to pick the files from the FTP server.
I have not set any limit to the number of session for the user that I have mantianied in the adapter. (Niether I know it -:) how to set.)
Any idea or help, how to resove this error.
    Thanks in adavance,
    Namadev

    Hi Namdev,
Your this error is coming as your FTP server maximum allowed connection is reached. so as the solution I would suggest to change the Connection mode property of your communication channel as Per File Transfer as default property is Permanently which reserves connection forever.
So other communication channels cannot communicate. Make this changes to all the communication channel you have configured.
    And your problem is solved.
    enjoy....
    Thanks & Regards,
    Gaurav Patwari

  • Com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 550 You are not allowed to issue this

    hi All,
We are getting below error while connecting to an FTP location through File Adapter:
Message processing failed. Cause: com.sap.engine.interfaces.messaging.api.exception.MessagingException: An error occurred while connecting to the FTP server XYZ. The FTP server returned the following error message: 'com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 550 You are not allowed to issue this command'. For details, contact your FTP server vendor.
Also when we tried to connect to this FTP location through PI server we able to connect, but when we connect to it through channel we are getting above error.
    Please Help!
    Thanks,
    Mayank

    hi All,
The usedid we are using to connect to FTP location has appropriate access to write(we have an receiver file adapter) the files, when we connected to FTP location from PI server using same useid(as used in channel) we are able to connect to FTP location and also able to write the file there.
    Now error soming is:
An error occurred while connecting to the FTP server XYZ. The FTP server returned the following error message: 'com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 550 Operation is not supported under Connect:Enterprise FTP server.'. For details, contact your FTP server vendor.

  • 'com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 501 Unknown error

    Hello ,
I am facing an error in communication channel while trying to post the file to the FTP server,
The error is " Message processing failed. Cause: com.sap.engine.interfaces.messaging.api.exception.MessagingException: An error occurred while connecting to the FTP server '10.100.5.00:20'. The FTP server returned the following error message: 'com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 501 Unknown error'. For details, contact your FTP server vendor"
Please could you advice what need to be done to resolve this.
    Thanks ,
    Siva

    Hi ,
FTP 501 Error is: "Syntax error in parameters or arguments"
Also, i see that the ftp address and port mentioned in your case is:
    10.100.5.00:20
Hence, i see three probable issues here.
    1. FTP Port :
Just check if the FTP server's port number '20' mentioned in your case is open as this is the data connection port. Moreover, the default port mentioned while creating a file channel is 21. Just check about the port number '20' with the FTP server administrator if this port number is opened and functioning.
    2. FTP server address:
Also, try giving your FTP Server's address as 10.100.5.0
    3. Also, check if the FTP server is reachable from the PI Server by using a simple ping command.

Communication channel is functioning and in Green.
PI adapter is only picking up the files only when i manually activate the communication chennel.

    Thanks,

    hi,
regarding report, there is a dedicated report forum. you should post there.
but answer for your question is form is nothing to do with the pdf generation. you can call the report from the as usual.
In the report you should set the properties like
    destype to 'file'
desname to 'path with file name'
    desformat to 'pdf'

  • MDM Sender Adapter issue in SAP PI7.1

    Hi All,
How to schedule(there is no poll interval in Sender communication channel) MDM PI sender Adapter.
Everytime we need to start and stop the channel then only file is being picked up.
I checked port details, file is not picking up automatically
    Please suggest me.
    Reagrds,
    Hemanth

    Hi Hemanth,
There are different versions of the MDM PI Adapter which correspond to the relevant PI version: one for PI 7.0 and the other for PI 7.1; the two are not interchangeable. Ensure that you have downloaded the correct version for your landscape i.e. PI 7.1
Setting Up Outbound Messaging from MDM:
Make sure that the MDM Java API (Connector) deployed on the J2EE engine matches the version of the MDM server on which the repository is mounted.
Also, Check that there is no more than one MDM sender configured per MDM outbound port in your system landscape
