Advantages of SSRS over SAP HANA

We are looking into options for developing reports.
The data sources are SAP HANA ad Oracle/SQL Server. The two reporting options we are looking at are SSRS and SAP HANA. I would like to know if SSRS is advantageous over SAP HANA. If yes, please specify the reasons.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
SQL Server Reporting Services provides a full range of ready-to-use tools and services to help you create, deploy, and manage reports for your organization, as well as programming features that enable you to extend and customize your reporting functionality.
One of the principal advantages of using Reporting Services is the ability to manage reports and related items such as folders, data source connections, and resources, from a central location. We can define security, set properties, and schedule operations.
We can also create shared schedules and shared data sources and make them available for general use.
For more information about SQL Server Reporting Services, please refer to the articles below:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159106.aspx

Hope this helps.

  • Connectivity between SSRS and SAP HANA

    Hi all
We currently use SSRS as our main Reporting tool, the company is considering to implement SAP HANA, is it possible to connect SQL Server Reporting Services to SAP HAHA? And what if any are the draw backs?
    Thanks
    Ruan

    Hi ruancra,
According to your description, you want to connect SSRS to SAP HANA. Right?
In Reporting Services, it just works on helping us create, deploy, and manage reports. We can only connect to a data source to retrieve data. It is not supported connecting to another report tool. Also we are not sure if reports
created by SSRS (.rdl/.rdlc files)can be opened in SAP HANA. For more information about SAP HANA, please visit the SAP HANA official site:

  • Advantages of EP over SAP BI Web Reporting

    Dear Experts
Can you please share your inputs on Advantages of EP over SAP BI Web Reporting?
Appreciate if you could share any presentations or documents on this.
    Thank you in advance.
    Best Regards
    PKC

    Hi,
They are absolutely different environments. With EP, you can develop WebDynpro Applications, using ABAP or Java, integrate Internet Service, develop applications with Visual Composer, ... It's much more than a reporting environment. You can integrate BI reports on EP, using iviews portal components.

  • Oracle SCM & OPM Advantages Over  SAP MM & SCM Suite.

    Hi every one,
Are there any Features in Oracle EBS which would be concidered as advantage of Oracle SCM & OPM over SAP MM and SCM Suite. All you gurus out there please share your views and experience.
    Waiting for a fruitful response.

    Hi,
    1. Cost Allocation to multiple FG in a single production batch cannot be handled in SAP. SAP expects a batch to have a single product.
    2. SAP Material Ledger does not handle multiple levels of iteration (Reprocessing), which can be common in a process manufacturing industry.

  • How ADBC connection is benefits by using SAP HANA as secondary database ?

    Hi,
I have one more important question.
How ADBC connection is benefits by using SAP HANA as secondary database in terms of performance wise for the access of data from HANA database as a secondary database.
I have 2 options and which is better for the good performance for accessing the data-
1 .  In ABAP Reports in the SELECT statements by using CONNECTION (“HDB”) will this improve the
         performance.
e.g : select * from BSEG into TABLE IT_TAB CONNECTION (“HDB”).
    2. Will Create the Stored procedure in HANA studio and Call
from ABAP as below by using NATIVE SQL–
         EXEC SQL
          SET CONNECTION (‘HDB’).
         ENDEXEC.
        EXEC SQL.
          EXECUTE PROCEDURE proc (IN    p_in1
                                 OUT   p_out1   OUT   p_out2 )
       ENDEXEC.

    Hi Pravin,
Option 1: In this case ADBC might even worsen the performance due to the overhead in the ADBC framework. OpenSQL is the method to go here, as OpenSQL - from the ABAP point of view - features the optimal communication with the database while ADBC has overhead like constructor-calls for the statement, parameter binding, etc.
Option 2: In this case ADBC is comparable with EXEC SQL but features more options, e.g. clean concept of multiple connection (connection objects via CL_SQL_CONNECTION), exception handling, etc. So I strongly propose to favour ADBC over EXEC SQL, but not simply for performance reasons. You might have a look at the ABAP Language Help in your system on more information on ADBC and the advantages over Exec SQL.

  • Advantage of DMS over "Services for object" functionality

    Hi Experts,
I have got very basic doubt about advantages of DMS Over existing standard functionality of SAP.
We can attach documents or files to SAP Objects using "services for object" push button ( Next to title bar).
So please answer for my below queries
    1. What is the disadvantage of using Services for Object??
    2. If I use services for object, then file is stored in SAP Data base or in my local drive??
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hello ,
    DMS Vs GOS
    DMS- Document Management System
The Document Management System (DMS) in SAP R/3 offers the following distinct advantages over the current procedures and systems.
u2022     It avoids data redundancy, maintains consistency of data and minimizes the workload involved in entering and updating data.
u2022     In order to use large databases to the full, it is required to exchange data quickly and securely.  Data can be accessed directly using electronic search tools, or find documents using known parameters.
u2022     Document distribution functionality  (SAP-Workflow functionality is required)
The SAP R/3 Document Management System meets all these demanding requirements.  In addition to managing documents, it also coordinates document processing.  It is possible to automate the entire life cycle of a document: from document creation to document storage, its access and its update.  Each document can be accessed immediately from any computer on the netwerk.
    GOS-
All these DMS advantages are not available with GOS.

  • Advantages of BPC over BI-IP

    Dear All,
I am new to BPC NW and would like your expert views on some of my observations on the much debated advantages of BPC over BI IP.
One of the benefits of BI IP was the integrated reporting capabilities with a common master data and combining the transaction data (actual and budget).  However, as I understand BPC is intentionally not integrated with backend BW.
BW master data is different and separate from BPC master data, thus it is not possible to integrate BPC cubes with BW cubes. To view an actual vs plan comparison, data would need to be copied / loaded back and forth between the BW cubes and BPC cubes. However, it does not seem practical in scenarios where planning requires significant amount of actual data.  Moreover, this would mean multiple reporting interfaces for the users.
BPC will be driven by Business users.
What is it that we are empowering the business users with?  The ability to define his own dimensions / applications/ dimension members / Input schedules?
Usually planning requirement is not just a simple input enabled screen. There are many more functionalities that would be required which would need writing of logic, code etc. Loading of master / transaction data requires creation of transformation, conversion files and data packages.  Obviously, these tasks would not be done by the business users.
To be honest, I am slightly concerned over giving the business user a free reign on creating objects in the system. Without proper training, things could get out of hand with duplicate objects popping up everywhere in the system.  Another area of concern is possibility of modeling same data differently in BPC and BW. It might cause complexities while integrating the data between the two
BPC seem to be targeted to facilitate financial planning. However, we require planning for areas outside finance (headcount, volume allocation / distribution etc).  I would have assumed that a reporting application of Type u2018Genericu2019 would have the flexibility to include only the required dimensions  as opposed to having to include the standard dimensions of type A, E, T and C.
When compared to BI IP, I am not sure if BPC NW in its current form would be the best tool to deliver integrated planning in multiple areas.
Having said that, these are still early days for BPC NW. Hopefully we will see a tighter integration of BPC NW with BW  and more flexible planning in non-financial areas in the future releases.

Thank you for your statement regarding the issues of using BPC in the context of BW.  I very much appreciate your excellent comments.
Also thank you for providing the link to the statement about the advantages of using BPC because of the Excel user interface.  It certainly does appear that SAP marketing is trying to get customers to move to Business Objects and BPC.  Of course, it would be a strong advantage to be able to leverage the existing skills of Excel users.
We already own Integrated Planning and it appears to satisfy the immediate business requirements.  We would have to pay for the software licences for BPC, which we don't currently own.  Of course, we don't want to pay for these BPC licenses when we already own the IP licenses that will satisfy the requirements.
In addition, it indeed looks as though SAP is positioning BPC to use the Business Objects universe.  Although we know that, eventually, we will probably have to convert to selected components of Business Objects for business intelligence, we don't want to have to once again make another substantial investment in SAP business intelligence when we so recently made such a large investment in the SAP Business Information Warehouse.  We will have not yet earned our return on investment on the Business Informastion Warehouse.
Given the timing, we don't think it is fair that SAP expects companies to once again have to pay for the business intelligence software and to implement Business Objects, convert from the Business Information Warehouse to Business Objects, redevelop, retrain, and redeploy all the reports using the Business Objects tools.  The customers will incur additional costs because of the reimplementation, conversion, redevelopment, retaining, and redeployment of the reports.  Without this kind of consideration, in these economic times, it will be difficult for the installed base of companies to justify the conversion to Business Objects, and, consequently, for SAP to realize a reasonable return on its, not insignificant, investment in Business Objects.
SAP should provide an existing customer of the components of the Business Information Warehouse a migration path to the corresponding Business Objects components of comparable capabilities at no additional license fee as long as the customer is current on its maintenance.  Of course, adjustments in the license fees and annual maintenance fees should be made if there are differences in functional and/or quality capabilities between the corresponding components of the Business Information Warehouse and Business Objects.
In our situation, we already and recently made a significant investment in the Business Information Warehouse and the Business Explorer (BEx) tools, implementation, and reports development.  We don't want to have to pay to replace them with Business Objects.  We thought we already paid big-time for the business intelligence tools and reports.  We even paid for the BI Accelerator and have been very happy with its dramatic improvement on performance.  We fear that a commitment to BPC may soon commit us to Business Objects, the latter of which, so far, carries a very large price.

  • SAP BW ON SAP HANA..

    Hi Experts,
I would like to ask a simple question. (Might be quite stupid one for the experts...) in order to determine the right direction for me to achieve the bright future..
While I knew nothing about SAP Technologies about couple months ago, I am about to finish SAP HANA Application Associate certification, as my academic background is B.Sc. (Maths), and Data Operator as a work experience along with (Business Management work experience), I am planning to go for SAP BW on SAP HANA or ABAP ON SAP HANA (As I love working with SQL as well as I believe it might be quite interesting to go for) course too, just to polish my SAP Knowledge as well as my chances in the competitive market nowadays.
Currently through SAP Trial offers I am playing with SAP BusinessObjects Products, SAP HANA obviously, SAP Predictive Analysis and SAP Lumira, by contributing full-time behind learning these modules.
Would it be right choice for me to do so? Any response would be appreciated..
    Cheers,
    Hemang.

Continue focusing on HANA as there are lot of projects which are demanding HANA skills only. There is no need to jump into BW as there are already many BW Consultants. There is no harm in having knowledge on BW or BO. But, I would recommend you to polish your skills on HANA only and try to get on the implementation project and complete at least one full implementation on the same. If you get an opportunity to learn CAR (Customer Activity Repository), it would be great as this skill is also in demand and quite difficult to find.
So, I would suggest you to stick to HANA and learn something inline to it like CAR. This way, you will be getting competitive advantage for your profile.
    Regards
    Shanu.

  • Advantages of BSP over Webdynpro ABAP

    Hi,,
Can anyone please explain what are the advantages of BSP over WebDynpro ABAP, In what cases do we need to stick with BSP?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
There is a SAP web GUI map and it contains different technologies as follows:
If you have the SAP screen already available , then the best solution would be to go for the ITS solution(Web Gui).
But if you were to compare the man days required to code a dynpro and a web dynpro screen from scratch then they would approximately be the same.
Yes if you want to leverage on Web Dynpro you will have to currently code all screen from scratch , and encapsulate your backend logic as function modules.
Apart from BSP you have the option to use Portal Development Kit (if you have SAP EP in your landscape) . JSPHTMLB(tag libraries)JCO running on WAS 6.2 or 6.4 or other Java server.
If you have just one screen and currently dont have the WAS 6.4 in your landscape and it would involve delays interms of procurement , setup and training, then its better you go with either of the above solutions depending on the skillsets in your team.
If you can make an FM of your trx, the BSP solution might be the easiest step. No additionial knowledge (except from some HTML(B)) is needed.
    Advantages of web dynpro:
    Additionally,
I would say if you would want a quantum leap in advantages by preferring a UI solution , then it has to be webdynpro be it ABAP or Java.
Some of the features that I have heard about and noticed as well is
-> Metadata based which means tomorrow SAP could easily support a new client without you not requiring even to change a line of code.
-> Support for Java gui and Win gui for web dynpro coming up(over http)
-> More professional UI and flicker free
-> Faster development time when compared to BSP or JSP
    -> Future proof
    Disadvantages:
    On the down side
-> You loose control on so many things that you took for granted in web programming such as javascript support, DHTML
    Hope this will help you.
    Cheers,
    Darshna.

  • Query about ABAP future in SAP HANA

  • Advantages of smartforms over scripts

    hello folks,
can any one list the advantages of smartforms over the scripts

    Hi,
The Following are the differences :-
    a) Multiple page formats are possible in smartforms which is not the case in SAPScripts
    b) It is possible to have a smartform without a main window .
    c) Labels cannot be created in smartforms.
    d) Routines can be written in smartforms tool.
    e) Smartforms generates a function module when activated.
    f) Unlike sapscripts (RSTXSCRP), you cannot upload/download Smartform to your local harddisk.
It was said that it was provided in CRM 3.0 version, but not available in R/3. You can download smartforms into Local PC in a XML format. In the same way you can upload this XML format into Smartform. From the smartform editor itself you can call download option, if you are working in CRM 3.0 environment.
In R3 also, you can download into XML format. However, it's not sure about uploading. Refer to the program 'SF_XSF_DEMO'.
In 4.7 Enterprise, other have seen this utlity which is completey missing in 4.6c. There is functionality to downlaod a complete form or only a particular node. (Utilities -> Download form). It will create a XML file and save it in the hard disk.
For others, if you want to download/upload the Smartforms source, you will need the help from the Basis people. What you can do is to create a Transport and then FTP down to your local harddisk. When you need the Smartform source in another system, you have FTP up the Smartforms file back to the SAP server. Finally, the Basis team, will tp it into your system.
    g) The protect and endprotect command in sapscript doesn't work with smartforms. For example on a invoice: First data of position no 80. is printed on page one, other data of position no 80 is printed on page 2. And there's nothing you can do about it. Actually, there is something you can do about it. By using a folder node and checking the 'protect' checkbox, everything in that folder will be page protected.
    Hope this will help u.
    Reward points if helpful.
    Regards,
    Rk

  • SAP HANA for functional consultants

    Hi
I have rich experience of 9+ yrs in SAP MM/WM/SD/SRM (certified in these modules) (and over all 16+ yrs) all through implementations and rollouts.
Now I am feeling stagnated in my career; wanted to make it more techno-functional; SAP HANA is a buzz word.
Wanted to move into it after doing certification; but have the following queries:
Will it be a right decision to move into it without any prior BI/BW experience.
Will I get an entry into new projects of SAP HANA.
Does BI/BW experience preferred over other SAP module/functional  experience; in which case it will be a difficult enviro to compete.
I have explored job portals and every one wants prior BI/ABAP/Tech experience.
I am worried will I be loosing by entering into HANA or shall I go further in my logistics area only for explorations.
The market I am working in is US and Australia.
    Please suggest;
    Thank you.
    Kim

It will really be helpful if I can get some insight from the perspective of
a functional consultant as nothing concrete has been said on the approach to be
    followed.
The answer were helpful but I am looking for more suggestive help; in that
respect I wrote additionally so that I can reach out to more people for a
    career changing decision.
If you still want to restrict the free flow of ideas then it’s against the
    forum spirit.
I hope my concerns are justified.

Yes, if you are planning to install new system(BW 7.3). No need for migration or use oracle DB.
BW 7.3 on HANA, where HANA will work as DB for your BW 7.3.
Hope you already have advantages of using BW on HANA.
