Advantages of using Oracle JVM over JPDA for Remote Debugging?
What are the "additional features" that the documentation hints at when using the Oracle JVM for remote debugging vs. the JPDA protocoL? Can a member of the JDEV briefly address this? What exactly am I losing when using JPDA?
I am not getting anywhere with 'NCOMPing' the stuff. Attempts to NCOMP keeps erroring out . The first of the errors is
'Error while determining classes contained in jsch-1.29_minimalClassListAndTCD

Was expecting one of:

Kuassi, I have looked at a few of your posts where you make mention of a file titled 'Settings_os.properties'. I see no such file in my Oracle installation. What am I missing here ?

Advantages of using Oracle with Unix over Windows server
Hi there,
I want some article/document which depicts the advantages of using Oracle with Unix (say HP-UX or Solaris backend). Actually the plan is to use some Data Warehousing applications using Cognos Poweplay, ReportNet and either Decision Stream of Cognos or Oracle Warehouse builder may be used as ETL tool. For Data mining applications we are planning to use SPSS Clementine. The Data volume will be substantial one. At present we are developing some prototype in Windows 2003 advanced environment. We are plaiing to use Risc server and RAID-5. Pl. advice some ideal architecture for us, as you know, it's typically a Govt. level application data (mostly archival data). The reports will be published using Report Net, Adhoc query etc, OLAP analysis will be done using Powerplay.

Hello guyz... I never even tried to use oracle in my projects.. but I am curious what are the advantages of using Oracle compared with the other database....
plus the warm fuzzy feeling of creating employment for hungry Oracle DBAs :)
Just kidding. Oracle is a good database to know just because it's used so much.
So even if it weren't exceedingly powerful, stable, and versatile you'd still be doing yourself a disservice by not knowing at least something about it. -
What are the advantage of using Oracle Database when compare to SQL SERVER
Hi all
Please tell anyone about
what are the advantage of using Oracle Database when compare to SQL SERVER
Thanks in advance

Hi,
There are various differences between the two.
1. SQL Server is only Windows, but Oracle runs on almost all Platforms.
2. You can have multiple databases in SQL Server, but Oracle provides you only one database per instance.Given that the very term 'database' has s different meaning in the two products, this "difference" is absolutely meaningless.
3. SQL Server provides T-SQL for writing programs, whereas Oracle provides PL/SQLWhich means what? Both products have a procedural programming language. They named them differently, and the languages are not interchangeable. Means nothing in comparing the features/strengths/weaknesses/suitability to purpose.
4. Backup types in both are the same. (Except Oracle provides an additional backup called Logical Backup.)You make that sound like "Logical Backup" is something more than it is. It is nothing more than an export of the data and metadata. Many experts don't even consider it a backup. I'm sure SQL Server provides the same functionality though they probably call it by some other name.
5. Both provide High Availability.Well, I guess they both have a suite of features they refer to as "High Availability". But what does that really mean? The devil is in the details. Remember, the two products don't even agree on what constitutes a "database".
6. Both come in various distributions.???

If you are going for an Implementation, you can try SQL Server Express Edition and Oracle XE which are free to use.
Then you can choose whichever is comfortable for your needs.

Problem for using oracle xml parser v2 for 8.1.7
My first posting was messed up. This is re-posting the same question.
Problem for using oracle xml parser v2 for 8.1.7
I have a sylesheet with
<xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-xsl">.
It works fine if I refer this xsl file in xml file as follows:
<?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="http://...../GN.xsl"?>.
When I use this xsl in pl/sql package, I got
ORA-20100: Error occurred while processing: XSL-1009: Attribute 'xsl:version' not found in 'xsl:stylesheet'.
After I changed name space definition to
<xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0"> in xsl file, I got
ORA-20100: Error occurred while processing: XSL-1019: Expected ']' instead of '$'.
I am using xml parser v2 for 8.1.7
Can anyone explain why it happens? What is the solution?

Steve,
We are also creating an XML DOM from java and are having trouble getting the tags created as we want. When we use XMLText it creates the tag as <tagName/>value rather than <tagName>value</tagName>. We want separate open and close tags. Any ideas?

Hi friends,
i have installed oracle db using Oracle Developer Day.ova for practicing on my lappie.
I want to connect to that DB which is inside oracle vm virtual box manager using PUTTY ( which is on my desktop). I dont want to use the in-built workspace or Terminal(whatever is its name).
Can you guys please suggest what should i do so that i can login to the DB using the PUTTY only (i love it )? i am not able to login to the host "localhost" using the putty.
Few years back when i had installed vmware(linux installed in it and db installed on linux) i could connect through putty.
I am using below entry in the hosts file.
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost
'localhost' and its ip address of 127.0.0.1 are non-routeable. Any request to send a network message to localhost will never leave the machine from which the request originates. And for all intents and purposes, your virtual machine is a different machine.

JVM options for remote debugging
I'm run Tomcat 5.0.28 using service wrapper and i need help with set the required JVM options for remote debugging from ECLIPSE 3.0.0.
Where can I find a complete list of available JVM options for WLS?
For example -Dweblogic.security.SSL.protocolVersion is not listed anywhere
That is NOT a JVM options as I just explained in your other thread - see that thread for details.
JVM options
That "-Dxxx" syntax means you are specifying a system property on the Java command-line when launching Java.
That property can now be accessed in the Java app
You can make up and use ANYTHING you want when you write your own apps - those command line entries will just get added to the standard/default System properties as I explain in your other thread.
Consult the WebLogic documentation (or onliine help if WLS has such a thing) for info on the system properties that have been defined for WLS. -
What should be configured as channel in Oracle CEP HTTP adapter for remote publishing?
Hi,
Below is the adapter configuration that I have for Oracle CEP HTTP adapter for remote publishing. What exactly should be configured in <channel> here? In the oracle documentation example, it only says /channel2 as an example.
Below is the HTTP adapter configuration file that I have created.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<wlevs:config xmlns:wlevs="http://www.bea.com/ns/wlevs/config/application">
<http-pub-sub-adapter>
<name>HttpPostAdapter</name>
<server-url>http://localhost:8080/RESTfulWS/rest/UserInfoService/post/jsonstream</server-url>
<channel>/RESTfulWS</channel>
<event-type>com.wipro.event.ResultEvent1</event-type>
</http-pub-sub-adapter>
</wlevs:config>
'/RESTfulWS' in my above configuration is the context-root of my rest service.But this is not working so I would like someone to help me understand this configuration.
Many thanks.
Regards
SowmyaHi, Sowmya,
From your configuration
Is the http://localhost:8080/RESTfulWS/rest/UserInfoService/post/jsonstream httppubsub server? I don't think the oep http pub adapter can publish event to rest service.
For http pub adapter, you can take a look at fx sample, it publishes events to a embedded http pub/sub server of oep.
Thanks,

How to start listener in sql developer for remote debug
how to start listener in sql developer for remote debug ? Since the new version 1.1.0.23 is different with the old version for remote debug, I don't know how to start the listener on the new version for remote debug.
even follow the user guide below and not work . Experts on sql developer please help me with this.
Remote Debugging
To debug a procedure or function for a connection where the database is on a different host than the one on which you are
running SQL Developer, you can perform remote debugging.
Remote debugging involves many of the steps as for local debugging; however, do the
following before you start the remote debugging: Use an Oracle client such as SQL*Plus to issue the debugger connection command. Whatever
client you use, make sure that the session which issues the debugger connection commands is the same session which executes your PL/SQL
program containing the breakpoints.
For example, if the name of the remote system is remote1, use the following SQL*Plus command to open a
TCP/IP connection to that system and the port for the JDWP session:
EXEC DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP('remote1', '4000'); The first parameter
is the IP address or host name of the remote system, and the second parameter is the port number on that remote system on which the debugger
is listening.
Right-click the connection for the remote database, select Remote Debug, and complete the information in the Debugger - Attach
to JPDA dialog box. Then, follow the steps that you would for local debugging (for example, see Debugging a PL/SQL Procedure).
Debugger - Attach to JPDA This dialog box is displayed when you right-click a database connection name and select Remote Debug.
Use this
dialog box if you are using the Sun Microsystem's Java Platform Debugger Architecture (JPDA) and you would like the debugger to listen so
that a debuggee can attach to the debugger.
For more information about remote debugging, see Remote Debugging.
Host: Name or IP address of
the remote host on which SQL Developer should listen for the database to connect.
Port: Listening port number on the remote host. You can
choose any valid port number that is not in use by another process.
Timeout: The number of seconds that SQL Developer will wait for the
remote database to make a debugging connection. Don't Show Dialog Box Before Connecting: If this option is checked, this dialog box will not
be displayed before future connections for remote debuggingYou're not the only one:
Not able to start remote debug listener

Using Oracle driver in JDBC for Unix and Linux based servers
Please, let me know how to mention the Oracle driver within the forName.class(" "); statement in the Jdbc-Servlet for Unix and Linux based servers.
I'm using Windows-OS for Java programming. Should I have to use the same environment(Unix/Linux with Oracle) for compiling or just compiling, mentioning the driver in the java program would suffice?
Please, Help me.
Thank You.
from,
Silas eschole.
email: [email protected]
[email protected]I've used Oracle's thin driver like this:
Class.forName ( "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver" );
Connection DBConnection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:USER/PASSWD@database" );
You need Oracles client classes ( e.g. classes111.zip ) at run time, not during compilation.
Thin client connects directly to the Oracle DB, so the database description is like PORT:MACHINE:SID
Connection is made through Oracle's listener even when your DB is in the same machine that your program is running. Port number is propably 1521 or 1526, depending on your listener.ora definitions and used Oracle SQL*Net version. -
Advantage of using SAP product over third party products

I want to know whether there is any advantage of creating SAP product over the third party products in SLD.And if we want to remove Product at later stage can we do that ?
Thanks,
AmitHi Amit,
Are you talking about creating an SAP product under SLD? For client developements it is suggested to create only 3rd party products in SLD for developing the interfaces.
