Advice about Migration Workbench and RAC

Hello,
I have a system with RAC and dataguard installed (a cluster with 2 nodes, in active/passive mode).
I would like to know if it is possible to perform a migration from mysql to oracle on the 'production' database, that is on the first node.
So do you think that it is possible ?
Thank you very,
Best regards,
isa

Posible, sure.
A good idea? That depends on what you mean by a production database. Normally, you would do the migration on a dev database first, validate that your applications still work properly (and fix the inevitable issues), move to test, etc. You wouldn't normally be doing a migration directly to the production instance.

  • ODBC errors for Oracle Migration Workbench and SQL Server 2000 on Windows

    Hi all-
I setup a new ODBC connection for the Oracle 10g Migration Workbench to MS SQL Server 2000 on Windows XP and keep getting the following errors when I try to
either test the new ODBC connection to MS SQL Server 2000 for use with the Oracle Migration Workbench tool. Goal is to fix these errors so that I can migrate our test SQL Server 2000 databases to Oracle 10g.
    Current configuration
    - Oracle 10.1 Migration Workbench
    - Oracle 10g Database (target)
    - MS SQL Server 2000 (source database)
    -Windows XP
-ODBC 3.85.1117 driver for Windows XP with SQL Server and Oracle
    Errors:
    I. When I test the ODBC connection:
Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver Version 03.85.1117
    Running connectivity tests...
    Attempting connection
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Specified SQL server not found.
    TESTS FAILED!
Now here is what has me totally confused:
I can use the command line ISQL to access the database on the server and IP is all correct and port is available. So I can access the SQL Server database fine it is when I try to setup ODBC that it gives me problems.
Any tips how to get this ODBC working?
    Thanks

    1. Jing Jin. If you had READ the post you would have seen that installing later versions is NOT an option.
    2. Not supported does NOT mean does NOT work, as Balmukund pointed out in the referenced thread.  The site that this databases supports is using ASP which is also NOT supported by Microsoft.  As it turns out Balmukund's solution actually turns
out to be the correct solution.  I installed SS2K and its Service pack 4 on the machine last night.  Good answer Balmukund. as we say in the Navy, "BRAVO ZULU!!"  which means "WELL DONE!!
    3. Tom Li I just posted the question less than 48 hours ago.  My last post was less than 24 hours ago.  I think I have the right to be given the opportunity to determine whether a reply is the answer or not. I understand you don't like unanswered
posts sitting around for weeks, months or years. (I don't like it either as I have a few that are still unanswered after several years.)  But you should not be showing replies as answers before I even get a chance to see them, much less try them out.
You should also not be showing replies as answers which don't address the criteria of the question.  I specifically stated that I had to install SS2K.  I went on to state, "And before anyone asks I need to install this version because that is what
the customer is using and I need to duplicate their databases."  So the correct answer, if in fact SS2K did not work on Windows 7, would have been a virtual machine answer, as suggested on the thread Balmukund referenced.  So before you mark a reply
as an answer read the question.

  • Migration workbench and DB2/400

    Hi,
Can we use the migration workbench to migrate from DB2/400 V5R2 to Oracle9i? The DB2 database has been updated recently from V4R5 to V5R2. Now we want to migrate from DB2 to Oracle9i.
If that's not possible, what's your recommendation in order to do the migration?
    Any suggestion will be appreciated.
    Adan L.P.

    Hi Adan,
The OMWB only supports migrations from DB2/400 V4R3 and V4R5. You may find that one of our partners can help you migrate your V5 database - for example, PKS. More details on our partner migration solutions can be found on http://mtg.ie.oracle.com.
I Hope this information is useful,

  • Advice About Network Design and Security

    Dear All,
I have the following network scenario:
An Internal Mail server that forward the mail messages to an external sendmail server that send/receive the mails from Internet.
Between the two mails servers starting from the inside, there are a L3Switch that act like bridge among the internal networks subnets 172.16.0.0/22 where is connected the internal mail server .161.
The L3Switch is connected to the first Pix on the inside interface, and it is connected to the second Pix inside interface by its Dmz interface. The second pix has connected on the outside interface the ISP router, and on its DMZ the sendmail server that has a public ip 84.184.164.83/29.
    My question is:
From a security point of view, how is important that the internal and external mail server do not has routing informations about the external and internal networks ?I have configured the second pix to perform a port redirection in this way:
    static (dmz,inside) tcp 172.16.243.1 smtp 84.184.164.83 smtp netmask 255.255.255.255
The internal mail server forward the mail to 172.16.243.1 the pix apply the static, perform the port redirection to 84.184.164.83.
    Than I have added also:
    static (dmz,inside) 172.26.243.1 84.184.164.83 netmask 255.255.255.255
In this way the pix perform the outside nat so the source address is changed from 84.184.164.83 to 172.26.243.1,so I have configured on the external mail server the 172.26.243.1 instead of the real ip.

    Hi,
I'm not sure about best practice in this area, but I think it's safe to say that the less information that's available on your externally reachable devices, the better. I think your config is sound, but if possible, it's a good idea to retrict access to the smtp port of your external mail server to trusted hosts.
    Cheers,

  • Need advice about H.264 and Apple ProRes 422.

When exporting a "master file" I can encode the video as H.264 or Apple ProRes 422 (etc). The H.264 is more compressed but still in 1080p? Does this mean that I do not have to compress the file with "Compressor"? What is the advantage of using ProRes and what is the advantage of using H.264? I want of course the files to be as small as possible but still at the best quality. Any advice?
    Thanks.

ProRes is an editing format. If you are archiving a finished project, you can create an extremely high quality "print" with H.264. ProRes 422 will use approximately three times as much memory. ProRes 422(HQ) roughly four times and ProRes 4444 up to 10 times (compared to the size of the file FCPX will export as H.264).
FCPX exports (shares) H.264 in highest quality (over 45Mbits/sec [if needed] for 1080p), you have no options to adjust for smaller files (or lesser quality from FCPX.)
To get "as small as possible," you'll need to learn more about compressing video. As a comparison (to FCPX), YouTube limits a maximum bandwidth of 8Mbps (used to be 5Mbps -- I *still* compress to 5Mbps before uploading.) Even compressed this highly, H.264 provides excellent results. [Compressing in ProRes is going from 4444 down to 422 Proxy (not to be confused with proxy media used in FCPX which is 1/4 resolution, i.e. 960x540 for 1080, ProRes 422.) You cannot compress each of the different ProRes flavors individually.]
You'll need other software to compress further than FCPX.  I use Quicktime 7 Pro. Compressor is another way to go (Compressor will let you set "compression markers" so you can vary the bitrates through various sections of your work).  The way to figure out your compression level is to find a section (less than a minute) with the highest motion high contrast (and/or changing gradients) and export at different bitrates. Watch for "jpeg artifacts" (blocking) and once you've gotten past that, that's the bitrate you should compress to. (I've had some clips that required at least 20Mbps.) It just takes a little practice to get a feel for it.

  • Need advice about migrating data

I just bought my daughter a new MacBook. She launched the Migration Assistant tool to transfer her data from her iMAC. Both computers are running Leopard, and the iMAC is just 1 year old. The problem is that she set up the transfer to go through our home wireless network, which is only wireless G, and the computers indicate the transfer will take 18 hours.
My question is this: Can I just click off the transfer and start another transfer approach that will be faster? For example, when she first started working with the iMAC, we migrated about 25 GB of data from a Windows machine using an external hard drive that was the back-up drive for the Windows machine. This transfer occurred very quickly, well under an hour. Is it possible to transfer the data directly from the Time Machine external drive, which had been attached to the iMAC, to to the MacBook using the USB ports (there is no Firewire port on the MacBook, believe it or not)? I should be able to just copy the data files and paste them into the new MacBook, just as I did when I transferred her data from the Windows maching to the iMAC.
Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    seeker45

    seeker,
This KB article has some suggestions for migrating data for the new MacBooks.
Also, an ethernet cable between the 2 Mac should work great for you. The info below might be helpful as well.
You shouldn't have a problem re-trying the migration again. If Migration Assistant detects duplicate user accounts it will give you the option to overwrite them with the new copies or rename them.
*Using Time Machine Before Initial Launch of New Mac*
Before starting the new Mac for the first time, attach the hard disk that contains the Time Machine backups from the old Mac. (For Time Capsule/AirDisk users: If you will be attempting this wirelessly, ensure that you are in range of your Airport wireless device. Alternatively, for faster migration of large quantities of data, connect your Mac via ethernet to your wireless device.)
    Procedure:
Startup the new Mac and begin the setup process. You will initially see the video introduction.
At “Welcome” select your country and then preferred keyboard.
At “Do You Already Own a Mac?” you are asked “Would you like to transfer your information?”
    +from another Mac+
+from another volume on this Mac+
    +from a Time Machine backup+
+Do not transfer my information now+
Select “from a Time Machine backup” and click “Continue”.
At “Select a Backup Volume” choose your Time Machine backup disk and click “Continue”. (If you are attempting the migration wirelessly, then click “Join...” and select your network first.)
At “Transfer Your Information” check all the categories you wish to migrate over. If you wish your Mac to be in the same state as your last backup, then check everything. If, however, you are only interested in transferring one user account, then click the little disclosure triangle next to "Users". A list of all the previous users will appear. Just uncheck the user accounts you do NOT wish to migrate over. In other words, have only the desired account checked.
Give the installer time to calculate sizes.
Once that is complete, the “Transfer” button will become active and you can click it.
After the migration, verify the registration information, click “Connect” and you are done.
Once the migration is complete use Disk Utility to repair any permissions issues.
*Using Time Machine After Initial Launch of New Mac*
If you happened to initially set up the new Mac using a different username than the username on the account you wish to migrate, then skip to “Attach the hard disk containing...”.
If, on the other hand, it is the same username as the account you wish to migrate over, then do the following:
Go to System Preferences --> Accounts.
You may need to unlock the lock in the lower left to make changes.
Below the pane on the left click "+" and create a brand new Administrator User account on the Mac with a completely unique name - not the name of your own User account.
Now logout of the account you are currently in and log back in using the new Admin account you just created.
Attach the hard disk containing the previous Macs' Time Machine backups to the new computer. (For Time Capsule/AirDisk users migration will be much faster if you connect your Mac directly to the router via ethernet.)
Now go to Applications --> Utilities --> and launch Migration Assistant.
At the welcome dialogue click "Continue." You may be required to enter your Admin password.
For Migration Method chose "From a Time Machine backup or other disk". (Do not choose…
"Full System Restore" unless it is exactly the same Mac you are restoring to.)
At “Select the System to Transfer” choose the hard disk containing the previous Time Machine backups and click “Continue”. Give Migration Assistant some time as it connects to the drive and scans the disk for eligible data to migrate.
At “Select User Accounts to Transfer” put a check beside each account you would like migrate over to the new Mac.
At “Select the Items to Transfer” you can choose to migrate “Applications” over. If an application already resides on your new Mac, only the newest version will be transferred. Additionally, other “Files and Folders” that resided at the top level of your old Mac can be transferred at this point as well. Files from the “Library” folder of your old Mac will always be transferred over unless you uncheck the other two options.
    Click “Continue”.
At “Select Computer Settings to Transfer” choose which settings you would prefer transferring to the new Mac. If you want a completely fresh system to start with, then do not check any of these options. This can be helpful if your previous system was experiencing issues.
    Click “Transfer”.
If you have already created a User Account on the new Mac and it happens to be named the same as the User Account that is being migrated then Migration Assistant will report,
+"There is an existing user account with the same name as an account you are transferring."+
At that point, you will be able to choose one of the following:
+• Rename the user account you are transferring+
+• Replace the existing user account with the one you're transferring+
+• Do not transfer this user account+
If you wish the new Mac environment to be exactly the same as your old Mac, then avoid selecting “Rename the user account...”. Rather, select “Replace the existing user account...”. It will not be deleted but saved in a new folder labeled “Deleted Users” found in the main Users folder. Click “Next”.
At this point the transfer will begin with a bar displaying the progress. Once completed click “Quit”.
*Full Backup After Migration to New Mac*
Bear in mind that in all cases Time Machine will not continue to backup the previous Macs’ backup sets but will perform a new full backup. This is normal. Time Machine will resume incremental backups after the full backup has completed. To view previous backups, Control-click or right-click the Time Machine icon in your Dock or Option-click the Time Machine menu extra and Choose "Browse Other Time Machine Disks," then select the previous Mac’s backup set. You will enter Time Machine and be able to browse your previous back ups and restore files. [http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1338]

  • Need advice about text formatting and hyperlinking

    Hi folks,
Thanks for reading my post. I am new at this and am using
Dreamweaver 6.0 for our website. We are putting together a

    any way for us to:

Please run as fast as you can to the Adobe downloads page and
    get the

    anomalies that can catch
up with you unexpectedly in that first release version.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking here. As already
    suggested, it
sounds like you need to have your link information in a
    database, which is
then placed on the page but maybe not.
And 'highlight' a string of text quickly? Sorry - I don't
    understand what

  • Need advice about Mac Pro and Windows networking

I currently have 2 machines at work: One HP Windows PC (high configuration) and a PowerMac G5 2GHz dual. I'm basically close to purchasing a new Mac Pro to replace both machines but need some advice. I do the majority of design work on the Mac. However I need the Windows PC to also do some design work but mainly use it to connect into the windows network at work. Basically I need to be able to access the network drives (which are set up with Novell Netware, with IPX turned off), Novell GroupWise email system and connect to the internet through the LAN. Can I do this with a Mac Pro, with either Bootcamp or Parallels? Is there any sacrifice in terms of performance in using Bootcamp or Parallels? The end result I want is similar to what I am doing at the moment - at the moment I use a PC to network and the Mac to design, side by side with each other. What I want is to do this from one machine, not two. (I also need the PC side of things as I need to use some software that isn't available on the Mac, eg. bespoke databases that run on PC). Is it easy to network under Bootcamp/Parallels? What pitfalls are there that I need to be aware of?

When your running Windows via bootcamp, you are essentially Running windows on a PC architecture. You will have all the same capabilities that you have now.
When you use Parallels to run Windows, you are running Windows as a virtual machine running within the confines of the Mac OS. The advantage is that you can run multiple OS's at the same time, and easily share files and data between them. The disadvantage is that the OS running within Parallels has a slightly performance hit, meaning you are not running as fast as the bootcamp version, but the performance hit is very slight. The only place that Parallels is lacking at the moment is in support of 3D or accelerated graphics. That is Parallels currently cannot make use of a graphics card 3D capabilities or advance GPU options. Parallels has stated their intent is to provide better graphic card support in the near future.
With all this in mind, I don;t see any reason why you cannot use Parallels for your Windows networking needs, and the Mac for your design needs, all at the same time. You will need of course to ensure you have enough RAM to support both OS's if you intend to run them at the same time.

  • Need some advice about Mail Preferences and Rules

Several months ago, I created a rule in Mail 2.1.3 for my mailboxes that would filter out some of the SPAM that I get on my laptop. I indicated that I only wanted to receive messages from people in my address book.
As it turns out that was not a great decision, and now I'm missing mail from people that comes right through on our "family" PC running Outlook. I tried to change that rule, but I didn't remember how I had done it. I searched help and found the instruction: Click Mail, Click Preferences, Click Rules.
However, when I get into Preferences, I don't see Rules anywhere. I only have ACCOUNTS, MAILBOX BEHAVIORS, and ADVANCED. I don't see rules on any of those tabs. Clearly, I had the power before. Can someone please (pretty please) tell me what I'm missing now?
I would greatly appreciate any advice that you can give.
    Thanks!

You must have inadvertently clicked on the small gray oval in the upper right-hand corner of the Preferences window sometime in the recent past. Doing so toggles between showing/hiding icons for General, Accounts, ..., Signatures, and Rules.

  • Need advice about web services and Java beans

    Hi
I am very new to web services and to Java beans as well.
I am trying to understand if and how a web service can use functionality I have in a Java bean. I couldn't find any documentation I can use.
    For example:
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
Adder adder = (Adder) ic.lookup("ejb/AdderJNDI");In a EJB client project (I'm working with Eclipse) if I add the EJB project to the build path, the Adder interface is recognized.
Theoritacally I thought I can do the same in a web service server project, but the Adder interface is not recognized.
Is there something I can read to understand how I need to use the EJB or implement the web service?
    Many thanks
    Sigal

Okay....I think I made some errors with the original scenario:
It basically comes down to this....I think. OCS Calendar has a set of Java classes and methods that provide an abstraction for their web services interface. I know how to create something to use these classes using an IDE like JDeveloper, but I'm not sure how that would work with HTML DB.
I've noticed that the SQL Workshop has a place for Java sources and classes, and I've heard mentions of PL/SQL wrapping. Is there a way to import classes into an HTML DB workspace, wrap 'em up, and access them via PL/SQL?
    Thanks again,
    Jonathan

  • Which difference parallel database and RAC database

    Hi Experts,
I saw some document about parallel database and RAC database.
My boss confused these two product.
which difference between parallel database and RAC database?
does parallel database is a "old RAC"?
    Thanks

RAC is the new name with many features for old depreciated Oracle Parallel Server (OPS).
It was avialable till 8i, since 9i it is called RAC.

  • Termination workbench and its processes

    Hi Gurus,
I would like to know about Termination workbench and its processes.
    Thanks,
    Prabha

    Hi,
The Termination Workbench computes the various types of payments due to, or payable by the employee at the time of termination. For example, Gratuity, Superannuation, Leave Encashment or any pending Reimbursable allowances.
The termination of employment may be due to the:
    u2022     Resignation of an employee
    u2022     Retirement of an employee
u2022     Voluntary retirement or premature retirement by an employee
For information on setting up the Termination Workbench functionality in the SAP R/3 system, refer to the IMG under Payroll India  Termination Workbench.
The Termination Workbench comprises the following processes:
-Termination Transaction (PC00_M40_TERM) - Using this transaction you can specify the details of employee Gratuity, Superannuation, Leave Encashment, Voluntary Retirement Services, and Reimbursable Allowances.
The transaction reads the relevant infotypes and determines the amounts payable to the employee. For example, amounts payable as Gratuity, Superannuation, Notice Pay, and Leave Encashment. You can modify these amounts using the transaction. When you execute the transaction, it updates the relevant wage types in the Additional Payments Infotype (0015). This transaction also creates a batch session for delimiting the infotype records.
For more information, refer to Termination Transaction (PC00_M40_TERM)
-Batch Input Monitoring Transaction (SM35) u2013 Using this transaction, you can execute the batch session created by the Termination Transaction (PC00_M40_TERM). Upon execution, the batch session delimits the infotypes configured for delimiting, in the infogroup. For more information on configuring the infogroup, refer to the IMG under Payroll India -Termination Workbench  Define Infogroups.
The batch session also delimits the employee in the Actions Infotype (0000).
-Payroll u2013 when you execute the payroll for the period in which the employee was terminated, the payroll processes the amounts payable at the time of termination. For example, Notice Pay, Gratuity, Superannuation, and Leave Encashment. The payroll also calculates the applicable exemptions

  • MS SQLServer7 and Oracle Migration Workbench

I want to have Oracle schema name=MS SQLServer7 database name when I migrate MS SQL Server 7 database using
    Oracle Migration WorkBench ( v. 1.3.1.0.0 ).
Then I tried to migrate NORTHWIND database from MS SQLServer7 Oracle Migration WorkBench have created user SA
and tablespace NORTHWIND in the destination Oracle database
By default MS SQL Server database names are mapped to the Oracle tablespaces, but there is an option 'Tablespace discoverer' to change destination tablespace.
But I do not see an Oracle Migration WorkBench option to make Oracle schema name=MS SQLServer7 database name.
    Only ways I see :
    1) to use 'Generate Migration Scripts' option
in menu 'Action' and edit the scripts manually
( I do not like it, unless you cannot suggest script to automate
    this task )
    2) Rename Oracle user ( user='SA' in my example ) to
'NORTHWIND' after migration , but how to do it ( ALTER USER) ?
    Thanks,
    Michael.

    Mishel,
Another alternative is to alter the MS SQLServer7 database owner to NORTHWIND using
    sp_changedbowner (T-SQL)
Changes the owner of the current database.
    before migrating the database.

  • Need advice about coalesce and deallocate unused space

    Hi experts;
Here looking for an advice about coalesce and deallocate unused space.
I got this tablespace with 87% full, one of the table in that tablespace has 1,150,325 records.  I'm going to delete 500,000 records from that table, but to release the space used by those records I understand that I need to execute other procedure. I was reading about coalesce tablespace and deallocate unused space.
I found that apparently, both process can help me to free space. If you want to share with me your comments, about  advantages or disadvantages about them, in order I can take the best solution?
    Thanks for your comments.

    Hi
after deleted rows, the high water mark is still the same and so the size of the table. you need to bring down the water mark
here is what you need to do to bring down the high water mark. We do this monthly for performance purpose.
This is an EBS R12 system  but the procedures are the same for EBS database or non EBS database.
After you purge or delete data in a table
    1) alter table APPLSYS.WF_ITEM_ATTRIBUTE_VALUES move; <-- this operation will invalidate all indexes attache to the table
2)select owner, index_name, status from dba_indexes  -- list all invalid object for user APPLSYS
    where table_owner = upper('APPLSYS')
    and
    status NOT IN ('VALID','N/A');
3)spool idxrebuild.sql --generate script to rebuild indexes.
select 'alter index ' ||owner||'.'||index_name ||' rebuild online;'  from dba_indexes
    where table_owner = upper('APPLSYS')
    and
    status <> 'VALID';
    4) run idxrebuild.sql   -- to rebuild indexes.  -- at this point if you check spaces on the table, it is still the same, you need to run #5
5)exec fnd_stats.gather_schema_stats ('APPLSYS');  --fnd_stat is for EBS system you can replace with the database equivalent command.
use this statement to count the block before and after the operation to see the different.
    select DISTINCT(SEGMENT_NAME), count(blocks) "Total Block" from dba_extents
    where
    owner IN ('APPLSYS')
    AND segment_name = 'WF_ITEM_ATTRIBUTE_VALUES'
    Hope this help.
