Advice: CC or Installment Loan

I need some sound advice. I am trying to figure out the best approach to my only financial/Fico issue. I have an AMEX card with a $11,000 CL at 12.5%. . I have thought about asking for a CLI. I owe a balance of $8,000 on it. My intention is to have it paid off or nearly paid off by the end of the year through monthly payments. I don't have any pressing concern right now, but I do intend to buy a house next year about this time. Questions: 1) Should I apply for a card that I could expect to get a high CL with a BT of 0.00%? or                     2) Apply for an Installment loan through Lending Club? I have a guaranteed 5.99% offer with them for up to $35,000.                     3) Or should I just continue paying it down as I have done, and not do either above option? My FICO 8 scores are:  EX: 771, TU: 761, and EQ: 743The FICO simulator shows if the balance (my outstanding revolving debt) on the AMEX card is paid off my scores would go to 809 on EX, 801 on TU and 793 on EQ.The only thing I have is a car note for a new Jeep I bought lat November. Thanks for ALL your help!

The way I personally would play that scenario would be to pay down the Amex. The reason is a new account could hit your average age of account, possibly significantly depending on how many accounts in total are on your CR. I don't know exactly what that would translate into in terms of Fico hit and mortgage rate, but I would be hesitant to risk the possibility of a better(even if only slightly better) mortgage rate in a situation where I'm capable of just paying down a balance in a few months. Getting the best possible mortgage rate is going to be a much bigger money saver over the long run, than getting a 0% APR on a relatively small short term debt that it sounds like you're set to pay off in 4 or 5 months anyway. I would also, if I hadn't already in that scenario, talk to my credit union's lending department(or whoever I was hoping to finance my house through) about my situation and get some feedback from them, ideally after providing them with a copy of my full credit report(to avoid them doing a hard pull).I would concur. Just pay it down normally. At best you save a few hundred bucks by getting a loan or 0% transfer card, but you risk lowering your scores - possibly below a rate threshold.

  • Installment Loans - Over Payment

    Hello all,
The requirement from the business id as follows:
If a customer makes an over payment on an installment loan (tcode EK25), then the payment should be applied only to the principal amount.
It should not be applied to the interest document. The interest should become zero on these documents.
Please help me understand this. How can I apply the over payment amount only to the principal. I am not able to modify the interest amount on EK26 screen, Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you all in advance.

    Hi,
Regarding the first part of your question, have you tried configuring clearing variant 20D (Loans) in Open Item Management configuration? You could use the combination of transactions there and the clearing lock for the interest items to solve this issue.
    Hope it helps.

So CMSS-3D on a hardware card like the X-Fi XtremeMusic then Dolby Mixamp like on: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_i...seq=1&format=2
However using the Dolby Mixamp and setting the Speakers to 7.1 you can use CMSS Stereo Surround Upmix which may not be needed since the mixamp can do this too....
Would CMSS-3D be best for all games or would Dolby Headphone work better for others?
Also I noticed Windows 8 has 32 bit sampling rates? I usually set my X-Fi on 24bit 96000hz unless a game complains. I think last time I tried 24bit 192000hz the CMSS effect seemed to not work....
What about the SPDIF samping rate? I assume 16bit 48000hz?

  • [SOLVED] Advice for Arch install with rEFInd dual boot Lenovo laptop?

I am trying to plan an Arch install on a new laptop for dual boot with Windows 8.1, but I know there is a potential to cause huge problems so I have been trying to read and learn about the hard disk partition structure and how I might install the rEFInd boot files so that I am still able to boot Windows once Arch is installed. (Unfortunately for some tasks such as updating the maps on my satnav box Windows is essential). However I am really quite unsure if I am doing the right thing in the way I am thinking about the Arch install so I would appreciate any help from experts on the forum.
The laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p which came with Windows 8 pre-installed, with the option to upgrade to Windows 8.1.  The upgrade was completed without issue and I then looked into the question of hard drive partitions and boot.  I had read posts on the Ubuntu forums about users who had installed Ubuntu on this same laptop and ended up being unable to boot Windows afterwards so I wanted to tread very carefully before executing anything which might cause really major damage. I had also read on the Lenovo forums replies about people who had replaced the hard drive and installed linux only to find that they could  not boot to the recovery partitions, with replies from Lenovo moderators saying that if the partition structure had been changed then the laptop would have to be sent back to Lenovo for a factory repair.
On this laptop to get into the bios or boot options you do not just press the power button and hit an F key, but instead there is a special small "OneKey Recovery" button next to the power jack, which opens up with options for BIOS setup and boot options as well as normal boot or recovery. This OneKey Recovery button is therefore needed to boot a usbkey - the power button only allows it to boot to windows presumably until/unless a different bootloader and NVRAM entry is amended.
I have done all the initial ( safe!)changes necessary to move to the point at which I can execute the Arch install. From within Windows (switched off fastboot, and shrunk the "C:" drive to make space for linux partitions).  I have also switched off Secure Boot from the BIOS, and made sure that Windows still boots up fine.
The current arch install iso (February 2014) boots under uefi just fine - and of course once booted I have access to the gdisk programme.  That certainly showed the pre-existing partitions on the drive (8 partitions with partition number 2 being the EFI partition, and three recovery partitions!) with a GPT partition table, and it should therefore be possible to make the necessary new linux partitions in the now unallocated space on the disk that was freed up with the internal disk management facility within Windows 8.1.  So at that point I created three partitions for a root partition (type 8300), a swap partition (type 8200) and another type 8300 partition which will become /opt in the installed Arch system.
In order to try and not make any changes to the partition structure I let the three new linux partitions be number 9, 10 and 11.
I am told that for a GPT disk it is a definite no-no to try to create more than one EFI partition. So I will need to use the existing EFI partition to place the rEFInd files and the kernel once I install Arch.
In this (Y510p) laptop the EFI partition contains the following structure:
    BOOT/ - containing only boot.sdi
    BOOTSECT.BAK
EFI/ which contains two directories Boot/ and Microsoft/
so EFI/Boot/ contains only Boot64.efi which is likely a fallback copy of the Windows 8.1 bootloader
    and EFI/Microsoft/ contains a Boot/ directory - so
EFI/Microsoft/Boot/ contains loads of language specific directories like en-GB/
plus bootmgfw.efi (which I believe is the Windows main efi loader file)
    bootmgr.efi
    memtest.efi
The scheme that I am planning to use which I have previously used in pure Arch uefi machines, is that /boot is a directory in the root partition, /. That way /boot is an ext4 directory and will contain the kernel and initramfs plus the rEFInd linux config file.
Then I can mount the EFI (vfat) partition as /boot/efi and so I can then make a /boot partition under /.  Then the EFI /BOOT/ directory would be seen in Linux as /boot/efi/BOOT/ and the Windows efi stuff would be in /boot/efi/EFI/Boot/Microsoft/Boot/ in which case I would presume that I have to make a new directory in /boot/efi/EFI/refind/ and put the refind stuff including the filesystem drivers there, and let the kernel go into the (ext4) /boot/ directory which would be preferred!  However I am not 100% confident that this is what will work and I need to read more before trying to do the install. The thing that concerns me is how the system will handle the uefi boot process, and whether it would auto-detect the Windows efi file as well as the Arch refind efi file once the system has started up?
... and then there is the issue of the NVRAM entries and I am no longer confident that if I use the usual tools to create an entry (efiboomgr or bcfg), that I will get a successful dual boot system!
There is still a chance that I would irrevocably damage being able to boot to the Windows and Recovery partition boot options by messing up the EFI and/or the NVRAM so I have to tread very very carefully with this.
If anyone has gone through this kind of dual boot install with a Windows 8 or 8.1 machine using rEFInd for the bootloader, and can offer advice or help here I would very much appreciate it.  I have another pure Arch system which uses rEFInd that works extremely well, but it seems that dual boot with uefi is a rather more complex animal than a pure linux system!

vipin wrote:I have recently bought the y510p , im planning to install Arch , this is my 4th laptop , i had installed Arch in all the other 3 with no problems, but im a bit worried with the installation as this is the first laptop which has EFI , im a linux user for the past 6 years , i started with fedora , now i like Arch , mike documentation is excellent, i just had one question when i had grub , it automatically finds the new kernel when i update (grub.conf/menu.lst gets updated), does rEFInd also do that.
When there is an update to the rEFInd package you need to copy the files across to your ESP from the files contained in /usr/share/refind/  usually you need to copy the refind_x64.efi binary as well as the icons, fonts, and drivers directories.  Since there is flexibility in how you configure the kernel and initrd files in terms of where they are located whether you need to do anything else when a new kernel update arrives depends on how you set your system up.  If you have the /boot directory as your ESP partition which will then have the kernel and initrd files updated by default then there no need to do anything else when there is a kernel update. If the ESP is then at /boot/EFI and within that is your refind/ directory then that is where the replacement files go if refind-efi gets a pacman update. So it is actually fairly straight forward. If you configure rEFInd to look for kernels in some other directory than /boot/ then you may need to copy the files there after a kernel update but there is more information in the arch wiki about this.
During a refind-efi package update there are helpful files in the pacman output (and log) reminding you of what you need to do.  eg for the latest refind-efi update you get:

By the way you can also boot uefi using grub and in fact you can get rEFInd to chainload grub as a backup bootloader as an added safety factor and have both rEFInd as well as grub installed simultaneously. How that can be done is explained in the thread at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=181906

    Hi,
Which operating system are you running on?
I have just tried downloading the large Windows file and it took 25 minutes to download. Do you have a slow link? It could be that the servers was busy as there are some new Lightroom updates available and people may be downloading them. Might be worth trying again later or tomorrow.
By the way, I'm not getting at you but Peru Bob posted an interesting link to an article dealing with using capitals - I found it an amusing read.

  • LR4 - lrcat won't open, need advice on re-install

I cannot open one of my catalogs in Lightroom 4 and I need help.
It's a large catalog, created in LR4, and it's always worked fine. It lives on an external hard drive (along with all the pictures in that catalog).
The other night, I set another hard drive down and touched the first drive, accidentally disconnecting it from the computer while LR was open (or possibly while LR was in the process of opening).
When I reconnected the drive and tried to open the catalog again, I received a message that the catalog couldn't be opened since it was open in another application. (Nothing else was open or using it, obviously.)
I researched the internet, found a suggestion, and removed the .lock file from the catalog folder. NOW I am getting the message "Unexpected error opening catalog. The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error."
As I research this, it looks like I MIGHT have to re-install the software.
    ---- Is this true?
---- IF I have to reload the software, do I lose anything? Do I lose my edits, my history, my preferences?
Sorry to be clueless - I haven't done this before.
I want to preserve the history of all of the edited photographs, not just the "composite LR adjustment" or whatever you call it... some of the folders of pictures have matching .xmp files and some do not. I think this might be due to a preferences change a few months after I created the catalog - I guess it doesn't apply this change retroactively, or perhaps it would have had I opened those folders... not sure. I had backed up the original RAW files (which are still present on the external hard drive and seem just fine), but the catalog hasn't been backed up recently.
I hope this is clear. I think I have to re-install LR4, and I just want to make sure I can keep all the work I've done. Any help or advice would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!

I found the plist file and deleted it, but it had no effect. It made things more confusing: I did get the exact same error message whenever I try to load the catalog (once I'd found it again - it didn't show up anymore), but in addition to that problem, NO OTHER CATALOG SHOWED UP! (I imagine this is not news to you, but for some reason, I didn't know the catalogs would all be gone.) I was able to locate one of the other lrcat files and open it, but when I did so, Lightroom knew which images should be in it but it didn't know where to look. I'd have to go back and relocate dozens of folders in all my catalogs. I have around 750,000 images in various folders and catalogs, on several hard drives. You'd think I'd know more about LR, but I just use it... and I have never had a problem like this.
I did back up the preferences file on an external drive. I reloaded it, and now I'm back to square one. The other catalogs are there again, and they all work. It's just my main work catalog that's not opening.
I have no idea what to do... I don't know if reinstalling the software means I'm losing all my work... I wish I understood Lightroom better. I don't know where to look for this information.
D.J - I'm sorry if I should know more - I clicked on the unhelpful button, but if you were correct and I am too clueless to have done what you said, I hope I can go back and give you a good rating. I didn't realize that you get points or something if you help people. Thank you for trying to help me.
All of this because of one drive getting unplugged. Oy.
Edit - when I say that the catalogs vanished or didn't show up, I meant that they didn't show up in the opening screen where it asks me which catalog I wish to open. They were all still in their computer or hard drive locations. Sorry.

  • Advice please on Installing OSX Lion on a Partition for FCP7

Always best to ask for advice before messing with the Mac!
I have OSX 10.8.5 Mountain Lion installed on my late 2009 27" iMac, I installed that after a recent complete drive failure thinking that a more up to date OS would be a good idea, in part it was but my most valuable application FCP 7 Studio behaves oddly now especially with key commands and some timeline functions are screwy. So I want to install OSX Lion on a partition on the HD and run FCP7 on that partition. FCP 7 behaved just fine under Lion.
I have made a 700 gig partition on the iMac's HD, and I do have an installation copy of OSX Lion that I downloaded from my App Store account. That is at the moment on my regular iMac's Mountain Lion partition in the Applications folder. I also have a copy of it on an external drive.
So my question is how can I install Lion on the newly created partition, and do so safely? What are the procedures for this?
I have my FCP 7 Studio disks so I will be able to reinstall that on the new Lion partition afterwards.
I'd appreciate any step by step help or pointers to where I can find those instructions. Having messed up with the iMac last month I am nervous about just diving into this without " professional help"!
    Many thanks,

Ok, worked it out myself….all's well now.

  • Any advice about my car loan?

I asked this in the auo loan thread but no one is answering me there. We had a repo in 2013.  We bought a car in Oct 14 and got a terrible deal.  Our interest rate is 10.25%.  We have a 72 month loan and our monthly payment is $386.  Right now we owe $19,000 on the loan and Kelly Blue book says its worth about $15,000. I don't think our credit has improved much since we bought the car.  Maybe a few points.  We haven't started trying to address our score until very recently. What's the best way to handle this?  With our budget, after bills and groceries - we could probably pay around $300 a month on top of our regular payment most months. Should we do that for a year and then try to refinance?  Is there any other option I'm not thinking of?  I know Dave Ramsey types would say dump it and get a beater but we don't have any cash lying around for a car so we're just going to get up with a terrible interest rate - and no down payment.  So I don't feel like there's enough of a "pay-off" for the sacrifice.

It can get tough when you're dealing with negative equity. Different banks use different lending guidelines when it comes to determining how much they are willing to lend in the first place for any specific vehicle, and the amount they will lend you will also depend on your credit. So even if you applied to refinance right now, there's no guarantee that the bank/lender you applied with would be willing to lend the amount you need to refinance. Basically, some lenders don't want to risk giving you a $19K loan on a car that's only worth $15K or less. You know that, though.  I work in auto finance, so I always recommend to people in your situation to pay as MUCH as you possibly can to close the gap on what you owe vs. what you think the car is worth. Call around to several different banks and give them the VIN and the mileage and ask how much they might lend on it in order for you to figure out which lenders are more generous for what they're willing to finance for vehicles. 10% is definitely not horrible for a 72 month loan. I have people calling me to try to refinance 17%-25% on a regular basis. Also, make sure your overpayments go to principle if possible. I wouldn't recommend applying to refinance until you know the amount you owe is where it needs to be so you avoid unnecessary credit pulls and hurt your credit further. Another option would be to trade it in and use the same guidelines to find a bank willing to allow the negative equity to be rolled into the new purchase. But that doesn't solve anything except HOPEFULLY getting a lower APR if you buy a newer car or if your credit has improved since purchasing the last one. You're better off to try to just pay down the one you have if it's still running fine. Why take on more debt if the car works?

I updated Leopard (10.5.3) and Safari (3.1.1) with the apple patch a couple of days ago. After install, my MBP wouldn't connect to certain sites like Google or Yahoo. This happens for Safari, Firefox, and IE. Today, Google works but not GMAIL. The other sites remain inaccessible; I get the message "can't open page _ because it can't find the server _"
After the install and restart, I didn't change anything.
There are no firewalls in place.
I tried using openDNS and configuring the IP addresses.
Rebooted the MBP and the Router and AirPort Extreme.
Moved the System Config folder to the desktop and starting the browsers.
Also, my Mail can't access my GMail account.
Nothing has worked and I'm near my wits end.
I have a PC desktop that connects fine to everything so I don't think it's my ISP or the router.
I'm hoping for some help here in lieu of subjecting myself to phone **** or driving all the way to the Apple store.

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Seems like you covered most bases.
Rebooted the MBP and the Router and AirPort Extreme
If you didn't do so, unplug the router and AE. Wait about a minute, then plug-in again. Try Safari or another browser again. If no go I suggest reapplying the 10.5.3 Combo Update. Do not use the computer during the Install. Also, plug in the laptop.
When complete, "repair permissions" using Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.

  • Help/advice needed on installing Communications Suite!

    Hi,
I'm still a new boy with Solaris so this is going to be more of a training excersize then anything else.
Basically I have a Sun E420r server in a home rack along with some Netra T105's to train me up with Solaris. I would like to install the Java Communication Suite on the E420r, however I haven't been able to find any install guides for it on the sun.docs website.
Ok being too hasty with no experiance I downloaded the Enterprise System first and tried installing all components at once (bad idea!) which didn't go in well at all as many of them failed. I have now decided to switch to the Communications Suite standalone installer but I'm still having problems with some components already installed from the Enterprise Suite installer and also I'm not sure how to even get the services up and running.
Sorry if I sound like a total beginner, I have manged to get many things up and running with Solaris 9 and 10 so far but could not find any guides for this at all. I did find this page:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1312.2
which is ok for when you have the system setup but what do I do to get it to that stage??
The server also runs the Secure Global Desktop Software coupled with the Sun Ray Server Software of which a Ray client is running off the system. But I really wanted to experiment with the Communications suite too as currently I have Scalix (MS Exchange equivelent) running on a CentOS Linux based system which was relatively straight forward to setup using CLI or GUI it's pretty simple - with documentation of course :-)
If anyone can just give me a hint or point me in the right direction I'd be really greatful!!
    Many thanks

    Many thanks again Shane!

Correct. Thunderbird doesn't have a personal-addressbook extension at this time. For synchronisation with hand-held devices, you would use http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/Sun+Java+Mobile+Communications+Documentation
This is in part due to a lack of standards for addressbook/calendar data. The CalDAV/CardDAV standards will help in the future. We are already working on the CalDAV side of the equation:

Seems like you work at Sun :-D
This kinda goes out to everyone that works there but just keep doing what you guys do best and creating amazing software and hardware. I really hope the Oracle takeover won't disrupt that at all as I am totally taken by Solaris I think it's awsome!!!
-Too bad that I got into so late though as I've been using Linux since around 2004-2005 and Solaris for only round say 3-4 months now which means in comparison my experience is really limited. However on the plus side things are shaping up very well as I seem to be nearly in a job which means that I will make lots of use of Solaris OS and depending on what the company wants I may be involved with setting Solaris boxes up too which would be amazing as it would give me a whole lot of opportunity to learn much more then what I can with 4, 10 years old servers as part of my home lab. Although the position is no way guaranteed but things are looking really positive.
All I can say is that I can't wait to use Solaris in a professional environment but also can't wait to get funding for newer more powerful machines for my lab so I can actually make use of a lot more Sun software like clustering and Java Web server and all the cool freebies which can be downloaded!
