Advice for a newbie please: form for a copy centre
I work in a copy centre, currently we work in a very manual manner. I would like to create an online form where people can submit copy requests. It would just have simple info like paper size, number of copies etc if it were a print job they could attach a file etc. I was just wondering if Adobe and LiveCycle are the best tools for this. Not sure if it is possible but it would be ideal if instructions can be submitted to us via email and also entered into a database like an excel spreadsheet it would be amazing. I've only just started using LiveCycle and researching around to find the best solution. Is this a pipe dream? Should I pursue other avenues or persevere? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much Paul. I've have completed further investigation, I think I will try and get the form submited as html so that just the entered intructions are received, and as far as a "database" goes, what I really should have said was a record, we don't need a database of the jobs just a record - a simple table of information entered in the form. Thanks for your suggestion about Access though, Access would handle and perform what we want a little better - would be great to have a job queue where we can mark jobs complete and enter meter readings etc....Access would be better at this than excel......I'm a novice Access user too, looks like I have some more research to do.

I'd like to use Turbo Lister Program for eBay. But it's PC Program. Which program same this program for mac? Please suggest for me. Thank you. ll^_^ll
set the wake-on lan on the main computer
The laptop's too far away from the router to be connected by ethernet. It's all wifi.
No separate server app on the laptop, it's all samba
The files are on a windows laptop and a hard drive hooked up to the windows laptop. The windows share server is pants, so I'd need some sort of third party server running. Maybe you weren't suggesting to use Samba to connect to the windows share though?
I'm glad that you've all understood my ramblings and taken and interest, thanks The way I see it, I can't be the only netbook user these days looking for this kind of convenience, and I certainly won't be once chrome and moblin hit the market.

What are the best books for PL/SQL and Forms for BEGINNERS?
I asked about learning Oracle Forms in an earlier thread. Some suggested Oracle training at official Oracle Training centers like Koenig. I just went to the Koenig site. The OCA & OCP Forms Developer Training Boot Camp is a whopping 2,610 USD. That’s like 1/4 Million LKR. It’s more that the yearly salary of both the 2 new developers we got and want to train. That’s out of the question.
Some have suggested shadowing experiences programmers and team coding. Both options are out, since those things don't work here.
Learning from sites such as Francois Degrelle's blog is no good for new people since they will get confused.
I have come to the conclusion that the only way to do is to buy 2 books, one for PL/SQL and another for Oracle Forms, give it to them and ask them to follow the book and learn it and also give a time period like 2 or 3 months.
What are the good books out there for BEGINNERS to learn PL/SQL and Forms?

Edited by: Channa on Aug 8, 2010 10:12 PMIn addition to the books the chapter Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals in the documentation is also worth giving a shot:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14251/toc.htm
Just for the record: I believe leaving them alone with the books won't do it. I'd at least define objectives (e.g. $chapters of the books in a week) and after they achieved them I'd test their knowledge of the individual objectives (like it was back in school :p ). By that you have control over how they are proceeding, you can focus on the things they didn't understand and you are able to eradicate some bad habits they might adopt during their studies.
If you don't take your time to train them proper you won't get good developers anyway and you will loose much more time and money...

Some advice for this newbie please ... writing Network in Java
K, i'm new to Java, and i've hardly done much Object-oriented coding but I have the basic concepts. University modules too focused on C, Visual Basic programming. =o( Currently, on Internship, I've been tasked to write Mobitex Network in Java, poll-driven. Have spent 3 weeks breathing Java =P, camping in Java Developer Connection too. =o) (enjoyed the exchange of ideas especially the post on "Java sucks")
My questions are:
1) Does Java have an indexed library like MSDN for VB? or is there any other way i can search for
method names, their uses and the syntax? (the case-sensitivity of Java had me crazily
debugging a simple test application) The lists of libraries available eg java.lang.string.*.
2) Is there a help somewhere where i can check what my errors are referring to? I'm using
JDK1.3.1_02 and Forte for Java, Community Edition version 3 for my IDE.
3) I have plans to design simple user-interface, one that would probably look dos-like but with
some buttons and forms coz the network has lots of functionalities that involve loop-back tests,
choice of sending data, control or information frames. Duration to complete this project is 2
months. Please suggest the best approach I should tackle this assignment and perhaps the
links and softwares you'd recommend.
ps: i chose this project over the rest to specifically learn Java. I knew the learning curve is steep but I seriously do want to get to know Java better, like a friend. And I'm looking forward to the sense of satisfaction awarded when I complete the application program. Thanks for your patience and words of advice. =)oh, ok then... I assume, then, that you have access to the C and/or C++ code.
Is the C++ code written in "good" OOD style? Or is it C wrapped in some C++ syntax? If it's OO, without multiple inheritance, then you just have some porting to do. Painful, but not as bad as writing a Mobitex implementation on your own.
Of course, timing is everything in this environment; depending on your platform (J2ME, I'd guess), you're gonna have to worry about meeting real-time-ish committments...
I'd concentrate on getting the Mobitex functionality solid first. I'd assume that there are (some?) reference applications that have been created against the C & C++ implementations. Port those, or use those as inspiration for your own (little!) app...

Help with MacMail for a newbie please
I have just set up our G5 Mac's on our Windows Domain, I have enabled IMAP on Exchange Server 2003 and configured Mac Mail accordingly.
Mac Mail can now send and receive messages and attachment just fine but when a sent message fails you do not receive the automated delivery failure notification from the System Administrator.
If the Mac operator uses Outlook Web Access or a PC using IMAP to check his Inbox then the automated messages are displayed fine but Mac Mail refuses to pick them up. I am new to Mac's and would appreciate some advice, I have checked the Junk mail and they are not there either....
Cheers for reading.Hi Mark, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I really have no idea on this, but I suspect possibly a port problem, do you know which port the failure notification uses?
Might turn off the Mac's Firewall for a test.

Bit of help for a newbie please
Hi,
I'm bumbling my way through some Applescript for simply clicking some links on a webpage in Safari.
I've used UI Browser to get me the link resource info however when cycling through the same page, every now and again, the group ID seems to change for the text link. I was wondering how I go about querying the group ID so I can possibly out in an if/then or other conditional statement.
The activating code line is here:
click static text "Click Here" of UI element "Click Here" of group 12 of UI element 1 of scroll area 1 of group 4 of window "Some Window Title"
So in the above, I'm trying to get the 12 in the group 12 part of the statement.
Any clues anyone.
Thanks if you can help
MartinOne of the traps those new to Applescript fall into is resorting to UI scripting too early when it should be an absolute last resort. Applescript wasn't designed to drive the UI, its an inter-application communication facilitator. There is an alternative method available.
Use "curl" from the shell to download the page source to a variable
Parse out the urls you need
Use getURL to go to activate the url(s).
Copy this to your browser for the "curl" man page -> x-man-page://curl
Here's a 2 line example script to get you started ->
<pre style="
font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
font-size: 10px;
margin: 0px;
padding: 5px;
border: 1px solid #000000;
width: 720px;
color: #000000;
background-color: #FFDDFF;
overflow: auto;">
set foo to do shell script "/usr/bin/curl 'http://www.apple.com'"
set bar to find text "<script src=\"(http://.*)\" type=" in foo using "\\1" with all occurrences, regexp and string result
</pre>
This uses the [Satimage Scripting Addition|http://www.satimage.fr/software/en/downloads/downloadscompanionosaxen.html] to return the urls by using regular expressions to find them. -
More help for a newbie please!
hi everyone
ive got a list selection listener set up for my view class
this list shows names retrieved, this has been done by the following
for (int i=0;i < data.size(); i++)
Person aPerson = (Person)data.get(i);
// Compose a string for each object.
String personNameString = aPerson.getSurname() + ", " + aPerson.getName();
// Put string into array.
listArray=personNameString;
listModel.addElement(listArray[i]);
what im stuck on how to do is to select a name from the list and have other data like
getLicenceNo() or getDateOfBirth() to be shown on jtextfields
any help would be appreciated... the closest i can get is to have something like this in the listActionListenerameList.addListSelectionListener(new ListSelectionListener()
public void valueChanged(ListSelectionEvent event)
String d1String = aPerson.getName();
String d2String = aPerson.getSurname();
String d3String = aPerson.getLicenceNo();
Object selectedValue = nameList.getSelectedValue();
licenceField.setText(selectedValue.toString());
validate();
but all i get is the terminal window coming up with lots of error messages under NullPointerExceptionthis is the error that comes up under terminal window upon clicking a name in jlist

Photos blank. HELP for a newbie please
I opened up iPhoto today and all my photos seem to be there but there are no images just blanks and when I click on one a lovely grey triangle with an exclamation mark appears. What has happened and how do I fix this. Fairly new Mac convert here (1 month)
That exclamation mark is an indication that iPhoto has broken the file path to the original file. Make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Smart Form for cutomised Inovice, Functional spec
Dear all,
I need to give Functional specification for developing a smart form for Invoice. Tables are not as evident as we have in case of R/3. please give me general tips to give spec to abap consultant to fetch various fields.
where used list of tables for a particular field is also not helping much. I need
1) Bill to address
2) sold to address
3)condition data
4) terms of payment
5) reference date stuff
Please suggest me a general way or logic bassed on which i can ask my abap consultant to develop the smartform and driver prog as well.
Thnaks in advance,
Regards,
Kiran CHi
yes usually customers ask to adopt the same layout as they are already using. Usually I draw the layout on visio and assign a number for each field. In the spec I put the layout picture and and mention for which field where data will come from.
For example:
A. PO header:
Field number | Description | Source
1 | PO number | EKKO-EBELN
2 | Vendor code | EKKO-LIFNR
3 | Vendor name | LFA1-NAME1 * rule 1
C. Rules:
1 - select NAME1 from table LFA1 where LFA1-LIFNR = EKKO-LIFNR
Hope this helps.

Tools for Developing/Customizing Forms for Oracle Apps R12.1
Hi All,
Could you please help me identify the tools and correct version for developing and customizing Forms for Oracle E-Business Suite R12.1?
Regards,
KKAlso, could you please elaborate your 2nd point regarding template.fmb The Oracle EBS uses a framework. Starting any new (custom) form for the EBS should ALWAYS begin with the template.fmb to ensure your new form has all of the required objects to comply with EBS Forms development standards. You might want to take a look at the Oracle Applications Documentation library. Select your EBS version and then scroll to the Standards section and review the following documents:
<ul>
<li>Oracle Applications Developer's Guide
<li>Oracle Applications User Interface Standards for Forms-Based Products
<li>Oracle Application Framework Personalization Guide

October 26th, 2012 Microsoft told me with "Microsoft Update Advisor" that I could upgraded my OS from Windows 7 Pro 64 bits to Windows 8 Pro 64 bits and after one year with another "Microsoft Upgrade Advisor" Microsoft told me again to upgrade my OS from Windows 8 Pro 64 bits to Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bits, but Gigabyte does not give the drivers on their website for my motherboard neither for Windows 8 and neither for Windows 8.1 and the system is however liable.
If I believe Gigabyte I need to purchase a new motherboard and probably a new CPU and new RAM.
1) Do you agree with Gigabyte or with Microsoft?
2) If we believe Gigabyte, so can you tell me what king of CPU and motherboard to choose for video editing and video encoding, please?
In the past, I had followed Adobe advices to use a Nvidia Quadro 2000 video card and HDDs in RAID 0 for video editing and video encoding.
Moreover, Microsoft recommends to use a SSD for Windows 8.1.
3) So, do you think I really need a SSD, with which capacity (256 or 512 GB ?) and which brand?
4) A SSD for the OS and software and HDDs in RAID 0 for video editing?
I edit HD (1600 x 1080 pixels) and I plan a budget between 450 and 650 $ for upgrading my PC.
Maybe I can only buy one new motherboard for 200 $, keeping my CPU and my RAM and buy a SSD 480 GB for 333 $ (total 200 + 333 = 533 $).
5) Do you agree with me for buying just only a motherboard and a SSD ?
Thank you in advance if someone can help me.
Otherwise my configuration seems to comply with http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/tech-specs.html I have only a doubt for the sound.
Best regards
PS: the names of actual companies and products mentioned herein may be the trademarks of their respective owners.Hello Isidore,
I can answer questions 3 and 4, as I have that sort of setup.
3.) No, you don't really need an SSD, but I would certainly recommend that you buy one. You'll notice a huge difference in the amount of time it takes to boot. I bought the OCZ Vertex 3 (120GB) a while back, and it's very fast. Whether or not you should get one just depends on whether the speed is worth it to you, but if I were you, I would.
As for the size, that depends on exactly what you'll use it for. See number 4 below.
4.) Yes, that's my setup. The SSD is my primary drive, and my HDD is for everything else. Here's basically how I have everything setup:
When I finish a day of shooting, I copy all my footage into a special folder (I named it "IMPORT" since I use it often) on my SSD. I do this because the clips load much faster in Prelude and Premiere Pro. Then, after I finish and export the project, I move all the original files onto my HDD. I would still do this even I had a larger SSD, because it's always good to keep your primary drives clean.
I also set the render and cache directories to those that I create on my HDD, because for longer projects, my SSD would fill up quickly, so that's why you may want to consider buying a larger SSD (even though 128GB would probably work just fine).
I hope this helped a little!
