Some people are buying a laptop and a large display to work with the laptop at home.
You could buy a mac mini for $600. This would give you a new computer. You could reuse you keyboard & mouse. Some people are connecting their mini their lcd tv's

RCCharles was kind enough to give me the above suggestions in the context of helping me with my IE crash. Does anybody else have some advice so that I can spend less than $1000 on my next Mac desk and laptop?
I've only had 2 computers in my life. My then husband gave me an AMIGA which ran both IBM and Mac. Then I bought this little blueberry in 1998. It is still ticking away with the help of the fine angels of this board. However, I'm beginning to feel that the Internet is slipping away from me stuck on 9.2.2.

What I don't know is how well the Mini does the TV thing--we still have those functions separate from the computers at our house.
I've seen flat-panel monitors on sale for under $150, and people are giving away CRTs. A friend of mine recently got a pallet of nice, working 19" CRTs for the gas it took to haul them off.

It's going to be in the 80s here today However, Idaho has California beat for generosity! As far as TV, I merely want to be able to access the network websites, and watch their streaming videos. In January, my local User's Group starts up again, so I hope to get some hands-on advice.

I am upgrading to a new computer. I mostly work in After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator. Some work in Premiere. Also using Zaxwerks ProAnimator for 3D.
My first and main concern is about drives. I am going with SSD's.
Will there be a significant enough performance difference between SATA and SAS?
with using SSD's is there a need to have separate drives for cache, source files, rendered files or will the read/write be ok using just one drive?

I was under the impression this was paid off. The last payment I made on this account was over the phone and the agent told me that it was the last payment. Unfortunately, I did not get this in writing. This is all my mistake as I didnt pay close attention to this account due to other things happening in my life. I decided to make a call to the company and spoke with a rep that was nice but not very helpful. I told them my story and then offered to pay in full if they would delete the account. They told me that they dont make changes on the credit reports and that their "tax company" does that. They then said that it would more than likely show " closed" after I pay it. They also decided to settle with "whatever I could afford" to give. Although this was tempting, I backed off and said that I would need confirmation that it would be deleted first. Again she stated that they do not make those decisions and said after I pay them "whatever I could afford" they would transfter me to Customer Service to discuss the credit reporting issues. I told them that I wanted to speak with them first before I decide to make the payment. The rep told me that she could not do that....she stated that Customer Service would not talk to me until payment was made. I then told the agent that I will be sending them a letter outlining my offer of paying for deletion and ended the call. How do you guys think I should handle this?

When trying to authorize my computer, there is no drop down menu under STORE. Have been reading advice for an hour now can anyone help me please.

In Itunes, under 'STORE' there is no option or drop down menu with the option to authorise this computer. Just want to get on with up dating his ipod. Anyone any advice ? Hi you can get wireless adapter WUSB300N for the desktop or WPC300N for the laptop.Both, work great with the wireless router WRT300N.I advice you to open setup page of router using 192.168.1.1 for doing the wireless settings where the wide channel set to 20 MHZ frequency & standard channel set it to 11.Also, if you wnat to enable wireless security make sure you choose WPA as it works great with the N - series linksys products ie., with the WRT300N router & N - series adapters.

But I am wondering for how long until I apply for the Citi DB? This afternoon I got a very surprising call on my cell phone. Apparently one of the moderators on this board read my post and saw my situation. From my Apple ID, he got my information and called me to find out more about my issues in particular this new issue with my optical drive. After a few moments he said that Apple is willing to replace my computer because it is no longer worth fixing.
I went to my local Apple Store and from there ordered my new replacement computer which should be here in a week!
I would like to thank everyone for their tips and advice on my situation. Most of all I would like to thank Apple and the Senior Advisor (Brett) who helped make this possible. This experience, while frustrating has confirmed my belief that Apple is the best computer company on the planet who truly does value their customers! Based on this experience I will continue to refer every friend and family member to switch to Mac! I am ecstatic!

Seeking advice for a nagging BT related issue

Dear Forum,
I would appreciate your advice on a performance issue related to using the BT SW stack.
*Some information*:
Non-Toshiba notebook, Intel dual core @ 1.2 GHz, 2 GB RAM, running WinXP pro (5.1.2600 SP2 Build 2600), all MS updates, company computer, MS Office 2003. I got the PC two months ago and separately purchased the 'Wireless 360' internal Bluetooth USB module (Toshiba device, VID 413C, PID 8140, firmware 43.15). I installed the hardware module and BT software stack (Toshiba BT Stack, version v4.41.02(D)). I'm using BT mainly to connect to my mobile phone, for which 'Nokia Suite' v6.85.141 is installed. The Nokia Suite works fine and as expected using the BT link.
*Problem*:
When opening a .doc/.xls file by double clicking it in Windows Explorer, the system response is very slow. Like 40 (!) secs to open a 30 KB Word document. This is reproducible. For some other files, like .pdf the response is much better. Starting Word via the start button and using Word's file/open to access the same file is OK. Opening Windows Explorer using Windows-E hotkey is very slow as well, opening Windows Explorer via start menu is normal.
I do not see any 'heavy' disk access or 100% CPU during the delay.
For the rest, the notebook seems to run OK.
*Findings so far*:
1) Re-installing the Toshiba BT Stack did not improve things
2) When shutting down the PC, frequently the TosOBEX.exe process needs to be ended ‘manually’
3) Uninstalling the BT SW stack makes the PC respond normal again
4) Disabling the BT Manager (system tray, right click BT icon, exit) has same effect
5) Stopping the TosBTmng.exe process removed the problematic effect as well
6) Starting the PC with all non Microsoft processes disabled – except the BT stack – give a normal responsiveness (!)
7) Uninstalling McAfee virus scanning tools does not help
8) Replacing the BT stack with version 5.10.12(T) solves the issue, but creates another problem: process “services.exe” continues to consume too much CPU time (~35…40%)
9) I have not been able (yet) to identity the non BT process(es) which effect(s) this problem
*Questions:*
Anybody familiar with this effect?
Any suggestions for next steps?

Hi people. Same thing here.
My Satellite A100 delays opening word and excel 2003 documents only when bluetooth manager is running.
I don't see a cpu load on the services process though (or any other process for that matter).
I had version 4 installed when detected the problem. Switched to 5.10.12(T) and the wait time is still there.
Then I followed the previous post suggestion of wiping-out everything bt related and install again. But still no luck.
Even reinstalled office but that didn't help either.
Some maybe useful information: I'm running Nokia PC Suite 6.85 over bluetooth and Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 which integrates menus in Word and Excel.
Wait time still occurs when killing all PC Suite processes or changing acrobat installation to not integrate in word.
This kind of time wait resembles some king of name resolution timeout. But why only office apps?
Has anyone already have any light to shed on this?

Is the iCloud a backup tool for your computer? ---- Apple care suggested using iCloud for a backup to my documents. I do not have an iphone, ipad or laptop. Just an iMac. Nothing to share the data with.
Now I am unable to access some of my documents on my computer and saving documents is cumbersome because it always wants to save it in iCloud, not my computer. The documents I am unable to open are my old MS-Word. One is a macro enabled word doc. I am using os x mountain lion.
After over an hour chat with apple care, the issue is not resolved. I did not have more time to resolve the issue today and it will be continued next week. Per apple care, I do not have any documents in the iCloud however I am almost at the free capacity with contacts and documents.
My question is -- If I purchase backup from a clould provider - other than apple, back up my files in documents in their cloud (make sure I can open them) and then delete the link to iCloud. Would I preserve my data? Has anyone tried this? I am open to suggestions.

Not really. You can store "Documents in the Cloud" but this applies only to documents created by Pages, Numbers, Preview, Keynote, and Microsoft Office documents created on your computer stored in iCloud's "iWork". Within that limited purpose, iCloud works very well.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean by "purchase backup from a cloud provider" but if you're considering a service such as Carbonite, I don't advocate any of them. To back up your Mac, use your own backup device - Time Capsule or an external hard disk. It's inexpensive and reliable: two elements essential for a backup strategy, that no subscription service can offer.

Wait for Next Sample Clock error, or 'How do I put this VI on a diet'?

In the attached VI I've been running since June, I have all the functionality I need. No questions there at all, thanks to much time and help from this board!
My nagging problem is that any time I use the PC for other minor tasks other than Labview, it will display the following error:
209802 occurred at DAQmx Wait For Next Sample Clock.vi:1
A search earlier in the month indicated that it could have been a result of my old and outdated PC; I've since replaced it with a brand-new dell dimension 1100. Celeron 2.53ghz with 1.00gb of ram. Should be enough to service Labview and other minor tasks (automatic antivirus updating and also maintenance tasks). However, any time any other program opens or even if the screen is scrolled around on Labview quickly, I get that same error.
Resource usage when idle, with nothing but this VI running is 5-10%, all labview. Upon scrolling the VI, it quickly jumps to the 58-60% and above mark and soon throws that error.
I know that there's a lot of code here that can be cleaner--I know that even though it's functioning correctly, there could be a less resource-hogging way to go about it. Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to make this VI a little 'lighter'?

Hi Ralph,
The wait.vi waits until the amount of time has passed. While the wait on next ms.vi uses some kind of quotient and remainder on the computer time until the remainder passed zero.
In this way you can synchronize 2 loops, and somehow it is less time-consuming. The only difference you will see is in the first run!

My WiFi name and password has changed. Did someone hack my WiFi? My computer can connect but not my iPhone 5s, and the connection for my computer is full, please help.

Hello, this is my first post.
Well lately I've been experiencing some connection issues with my iPhone 5s. I was on my iPhone just watching Youtube when my iPhone 5s disconnected, I tried to connect again by going to settings> Wi-FI> and then select my network as usual, but the weird thing is that my Wi-Fi network has changed it's name to Wireless, it used to be Wireless710. Also the password has been changed.
My computer can easily connect due to the fact that it is hardwired to the Wireless Cable Modem Gateway.

Carrier is Sprint.
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate.
My Wireless Cable Modem Gateway is Netgear.
And now I am confused because when I open the small tab with the computer and a plug on the bottom right corner next to the speaker icon it says I'm not connected :/?! Here is a picture of it:
Note that I can not connect to it but am connected on my computer. It just disappeared on my phone and computer, I even unplugged my router waited for 20 seconds and connected it back in. Did it wok? for my computer yes again because it is hardwired, but my phone? No. Wireless 710 still won't show up. Is this a possible hack? Log in to the router's console with a web browser from your computer. What kind of encryption did you have on the router? If it was WEP that's about as secure as no encryption. It should be WPA or WPA2. There has been an exploit reported in Netgear and Linksys routers that allows someone connected to the router if Remote Access to the console is enabled to take it over and install spyware on it.
Is it your router, or the cable providers? If it is yours it has been hacked. If it belongs to the cable provider they may have changed it to make it more secure. Call them.
And if it has been hacked and is yours the best thing to do is to throw it away and get a new, more secure router. Or you can try reflashing the firmware by going to Netgear's site and downloading a clean copy.

Request help in writing a allocation logic code.
The current runs for 2600 Projects and 12000 customers. This causes memory issue and the code is aborted when run.

Automatically upgrade any superseded versions of this application not auto installing - Status always waiting for next maintenance schedule

Hello,
I'm trying to deploy an application to a user group with the option checked for "Automatically upgrade any superseded versions of this application" but it never auto installs.
- The application is set to install to system whether the user is logged on or off.
- We do have user affinity, therefore the user does have a one or more primary devices setup.
- If I run the install manually, it will superseded and install the new application and uninstall the old applications.
- The estimated installtion time minutes is set to 0
- The maxmimum allowed run time is set to 120 minutes.
We're on version SCCM 2012 SP1.
My assumption of how it should work
If the user is logged in or NOT and it's during the maintenance window, it should auto install the application. Maybe I'm wrong.
Here's the scenario.
User JohnDoe has application Viewer 1.0 installed on his machine. He installed this app via the SCCM application catalog. We now need to deploy Viewer 2.0 of this application. I want to ensure when it's deployed it replaces Viewer 1.0 hence
the reason to check the "auto upgrade.."check box.
Here's what happens. In software center, it will pre-downlaod the software and then set the status to "Waiting for next maintenance schedule". The problem is that the status stays like this forever. We do have maintenance windows set
on the device collection that JohnDoe's primary device is part of. Here are our maintenance windows.
- Daily - 9PM to 5AM = 8 hours
- Weekly - Saturday - 12:00AM to 12:00 = 24 hours
- Weekly - Sunday - 12:00AM to 12:00 = 24 hours
Coordinated UTC is not checked.
The business hours in software center are set to 5am to 10pm.
One would assume that it would auto install during the night since we have a big maintenance windows. I checked the ServiceWindowmanager.log and it does seem to show the various maitnenance windows.
Here's what I've tried
- If I make the deployment required, it will install right away regarless of maintenance windows. However, i don't want to use this option because if the user logs in to other machine (e.g. boardroom computer), it will auto install this software.
- If JohnDoe clicks install in Software center or application catalog, it works. There's nothing wrong with the packages. The issue seems to be related with the maintenance windows.
- If I disable the maintenance windows, then it seems to work but only when I'm logged in. It still does not work if I'm logged out. It only kicks off the installation when I login if it's not during the business hour set in software center.
We need the maintenance windows since we don't want windows patching to occur during the day.
- I searched and ran the report to ensure there's not another maintenance windows setup that would prevent this from installing.
Our current workaround
To ensure users are using the latest version, we deploy the application required for a couple of days, then delete that deployment once we reach a high 90%. The problem with that is if some computers are turned off, they would be using the older version
and it will never get upgraded unless the user installs it manually.
Has anyone encountered this? Any other log files I should look at? Anything else I should verify ? I know in SCCM 2012 R2, you can set the maintenance window to only apply this schedule to software update (patching) but that option doesn't seem
to be available in SCCM 2012 SP1.

Re-check your deployment, specially the user experience:
If you've checked the box next to "Software installation", it will install after the deadline has passed and ignores maintenance windows. Change the deployment to required and uncheck that box and the software should be installed according to your
maintenance windows.
