Advice for theme to impress

I am brand new to Keynote.
1. Are there additional themes that can be downloaded?
2. I want to create a presentation that conveys high tech and is flashy. Any recommendations?
3. Can I embed and play a .FLV?
4. Is there a way to play a Keynote file on a PC or a Mac without Keynote? What options do I have if I want a make the file available for download from my site for users?
Thanks!

Hi Rick,
Welcome to Keynote!! I use it on a weekly basis and think you will find it to be a great product over time.
In answer to your questions:
1) There are a large number of themes that can be downloaded (some free, some commercial). Checkout the following links:
www.keynoteuser.com
www.keynotepro.com
www.jumsoft.com
2)Try 'Fuse' at keynotepro.com or 'PowerBlue' at keynoteuser.com
3)Embedding .flv files doesn't work (I believe), but you CAN convert the files via a converter program. the free software 'Perian' for the Mac is a must-have tool for doing conversions and playback. As for others, I use TubeSock to pull .flv files from YouTube.
4) You can convert the Keynote file to a Quicktime movie which plays automatically or clicks through in steps from within Keynote. Check under the 'File' menu for the 'Export' command.
Good luck!!

  • Advice for Upcoming App Spree

Thanks for asking those questions; I knew I was bound to leave some information out. Unfortunately, I don't have verifiable income during the summer, but I did during the school year, and I will during this upcoming school year. The only reason I was denied for the Discover CLI was because my history was so short (didn't even have a FICO score yet). I always PIF. I didn't even think to include that because that just seems like it should go without question with the way I view credit haha. Anyway, yeah I always plan to PIF with any credit cards. As far as getting my other FICOs, is there any free way? Just the whole reason I'm into credit cards is to save money (rewards now and lower interest on loans in the future), so paying for anything credit related kind of contradicts why I do this stuff. I do plan to get a Citi Double Cash in the future, and then I'll have a monthly EQ FICO score as well. I have looked at all of the Capital One cards, but none of them are really rewards leaders. Because I'm mostly just interested in the very best cards for me and Capital One triple pulls, I'm not really interested in them. As far as the plausibility of getting these cards, I think that if I applied for only one of the them (except maybe the Fidelity), I would be approved because I've seen many thin, clean files approved for AmEx cards, seen people with only 6 months of credit history approved for the Freedom despite Chase saying that they like to see a year of history, and the Sallie Mae seems to be geared towards students or recent graduates, so it makes sense that thinner files get approved for the Sallie Mae card. Anyway, I could be totally wrong about any of this, but I think that I stand a decent chance for these cards on their own, but applying in the right order might be key to getting hopefully at least 3.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'm definitely a bit worried about having a successful app spree and then Barclays closing my account because of too many recent accounts. I was under the impression that the charge cards are easier to get approved for than the revolvers, and the PRG is a charge card while the ED is a revolver. Either way, I don't really see the point of applying for cards just because I am more likely to get approved for them. I'm more interested in applying for cards because their rewards fit my spending habits. This same logic goes for why I don't intend to apply for a Capital One card. Also, as far as feasibility of my approval for these cards, here are a few relevant links so that we hopefully don't have to talk that much about that on this thread:Sallie Mae approval with 9 months history and a 642 TU FICOSallie Mae and Chase Freedom approval with 8 months history and a 707 TU FICOFidelity Amex approval with 9 months history, 7 months AAoA, 723 EQ FICO, and 741 TU FICOAmex ED approval with 6 months history and 696 EXAmex BCP approval with 6 months historyAmex PRG approval with 7 months historyAmex BCE approval with 9 months historyAmex BCE and Chase Freedom approval with 8 months historyChase Freedom approval with similar profileChase Freedom approval with short history No offense,  but if you search enough for what you want to hear, you will find it... I know you are not opting for the charge cards, but it made me think, how many teens/young adults need a charge card...Which made me think further, it would be great because there is a less chance of accumulating cc debt! Something to think about. How much money do you spend a month that can be put on credit cards?  What are your 1, 5, and 10 year credit goals?  I did check credit pulls database (which is a gamble anyway) and the amex prg had lots of approvals even for scores lower than yours. Go for it. I really dont care for that salliemae card. #1 because it is with barclays.  Plus, their rewards cap seems kind of low. But yeah, it would be a geat card for a student especially for bookstore/amazon and you can have the percent deposited into upromise or pay interest on student loans (as I am sure you already know!).
Anyway, did you check the chase approval site? I would apply for amex first. If you dont get approved, call in for a recon for a different product. I think you will be just fine with whichever card you select. I would apply for chase second. And Salliemae 3rd.  Only because the first two have the most room to grow with you and therefor seem to be the priority to me. My reply doesnt have much advice, but hopefully it will bump it to the top so others will chime in!

  • Approach advice for a newbie?

Hi All - First of all, thanks to everyone who shares their stories and advice on this board. It's a tremendous resource that I could not be happier I've stumbled upon.I've been reading for several days and wanted to see if anyone has advice on my approach  My baddies and questions are below: Bank of America - Charged off credit card
Given the limited success on the boards for BoA PFD, I figure the best approach here is to PIF then GW. This is reporting monthly and affecting util, so at this point I'm just hoping to stop the hemorrhage.
    - One question: I spoke to two CSRs who stated they could not e-mail payment confirmation receipts, only provide verbal confirmation numbers. Should I just proceed and pay with a credit card in case I need to dispute down the line? Or should I approach PIF another way? Verizon - Collection accounts that are not mine (likely mixed up with dad who has same name). Verizon asked for fax of Drivers License and W-2s to prove I did not live there. I figured I should send the info and if it's not cleaned up in 2 weeks, dispute with the CRAs as well.
    - Question here, is faxing ok or should I CMRR? Medical Collection - OC will not PFD but will accept payment. I'm going to send CA a PFD request and if they reject, would follow up with a request to reconsider as I'll otherwise pay OC directly and they would receive no commission.
    - Question for this, should I CMRRR or is snail mail (or even fax) ok? I also have 3 debts that are not reporting at all. I'd like to reach out to the OCs to PIF but am worried that it will result in new PIF derogs. I realize there would be no way around this for an OC besides GW, but if a CA did so, would there be a basis to dispute if I retain copies of receipts/CRs showing they reported after the fact. (This is all assuming CAs don't own the debt) The biggest one is an Amex charge off. I'm thinking of PIF even though they've offered to settle substantially in the past (though no contact in a long time). I'm hoping preemptively reaching out would help as I'd like to re-establish a relationship in the future. Though not oasis as its gardening time from here on out  Thanks in advance for any advice!!

I dont know what you would dispute after payment but a CC payment is a wise move, give you a record of payment with little chance of comeback as non paid and having to deal with a CA. Verizon - Collection accounts that are not mine (likely mixed up with dad who has same name). • Multiple libraries, Pbook/Pmac, advice for management & updating please.

    Hi Everyone,
I travel frequently, and am looking for suggestions to keep all my iPhoto libraries up to date. I currently have a g5, Powerbook, and Mini.
I just upgraded to iPhoto 6 and I have several thousand photos on my Dual g5. I just came back with 1000 more from my diving trip. The problem is, they are on my Powerbook, and taking up alot of space on the relatively small hard drive. I managed to work through the rough upgrade from 5 to 6, and now I need some more help...
    1) What is your advice for managing multiple libraries of photos.
    2) What is the best way to transfer the iphoto pics (and movies) to my desktop, which of course has the larger storage capacity, after travelling...
    Thanks,

    Jason:
There are several different approaches to what you want to do. Let me just throw out a couple that I'm familiar with.
To get the new photos from your PB to your G5 and maintain any keywords, and other organization effort you put into them, you'll need the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager. It will allow you to merge libraries or copy between libraries and maintain the metadata, etc. That's the only way currently available to move photos from one library to another and keep the roll, keywords, comments, etc. with those photos. You can connect the two Macs with one in the Target Mode, probably your PB, and then run iPLM to move the photos to the G5 library.
Now there is a way to have a library on your PB that reflects the one on your G5 but is only a fraction of the size. That's to have an alias based library on your PB that uses the Originals folder as its source of source files. (My 25,600 files, 27G, are represented by an iPhoto Library folder of only 1.75G). When the PB is not connected with the G5, say with a LAN, it will have limited capabilities which are in part: you'll only be able to view the thumbnail files, be able to add comments, create, delete or move albums around, add keywords (but with some hassle-but it can be done). You can't do anything that requires moving thumbnails around, work with books, slideshows or calendars. Once the two computers are networked together again the library will act as normal.
Now while on the road you can have a "normal" library to import new full sized files, keyword them, add comments, etc. and then transfer to the G5 library. Once in the G5 library they will be represented in a roll(s) and corresponding folder in the Originals folder. You then fire up the "alias" library, and import those new folders in the G5 Originals folder.
It may be a lot of work but it may be one way of doing it.
I've not done any of the "sharing" with iPhoto so don't know if that's another possible candidate for transferring.
P.S. FWIW I've created this workflow for converting from a conventional library to an alias based one.

  • Advice for real performance of LV8.5 operate in the XP and Vista

    Hi all
My company had purchased new computers for LabVIEW programming purpose.
We may install the LV8.5 in these computers but OS are not decided yet. Also, we have the current PC is only XP licensed
Therefore, can anyone give the advice for the real performance advantage of using :
LV8.5 with Vista over LV8.5 with XP
LV8.5 with Vista over LV7.1 with XP
LV7.1 with Vista over LV7.1 with XP
    New computers detail:
    Intel(R) Pentium(R)Dual-Core processor E2160
    BCH-P111 -1.80GHz, 1MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB
    2GB RAM
    Thanks
    Best Regards
    Steve So

The biggest issue I have seen with 8.5 Vista vs. XP is that if you leave Vista in the standard theme, the fonts have changed.  I designed several front panels to have them be out of whack with XP.  So if you are going to be using code across platforms, you need to keep in mind they will look different unless you use the XP theme in Vista, or customize your fonts to make sure they remain the same between the systems.  The dialog font is a different size (13 on Vista vs. 11 on XP), and a different font (can't remember the difference).  That was the big one I noticed.
8.5 over 7.1 is mostly going to be the learning curve to learn the new features.  Overall, I have appreciated the changes, but there are some things (mostly development related) that I have seen run a little slower in 8.5 than in 7.1, but have not noticed any runtime issues as of yet.  One big change between the versions is application building, which is more complex in 8+.  I do appreciate the new features, though, but NIs project still hasn't rubbed me the right way yet.
NI doesn't support LV 7.1 with Vista.  I have used it and haven't seen any problems, but that doesn't mean one won't pop up.  If you're going to stay with 7.1, you better stay with XP.  8.5 is the first version NIs supports as Vista compatible.  You will also have to use a relatively new set of device drivers, so if you have old hardware you are trying to use in your new system, make sure it is cimpatible with the latest drivers.
I have actually had more issues with other hardware drivers and software packages than I have with LabVIEW.  TestStand is not yet supported in Vista, and i found out the hard way, one of the ways it is incompatible and had to move back to XP for devlopment.

  • How do I get my apps back on without paying for them?

    Heya Guys!
I've recently downloaded the new IOS 7 and had to delete a load of apps from my phone for there to be enough space for it to download.
I thought that once I had updated it I'd be able to get them on, no problems, however I can't seem to download them again without paying for them.
I downloaded them straight on to my phone rather than through iTunes, so they never actually got onto my computer in any other way than in a backup.
    Does anyone have any advice?
    Thanks!
    Simon

Thanks for that Kappy! I can now download them to my computer which is good. However they still aren't appearing on my phone. I also went to upgrade to the next iTunes and it said it couldn't because of something to do with the account, and without the iTunes update I can't get my phone to work on my mac. My they make it so confusing!

  • LabVIEW done right: Requesting advice for a large LabVIEW project

    Hello Everyone,
I have been coding LabVIEW for about 2 years now, off and on as my company requires it, and although my coding abilities and neatness have improved greatly since I first started I still end up with large, messy looking programs.
I have a great understanding of SubVIs and use them regularly and often. I am also familiar with the various code structures such as a producer/consumer or state machine. But I keep finding that too much of my main code is interdependent on common variables, indexes, and values that it seems impossible to simplify any of them into subVIs because I would need like 10+ inputs or a custom cluster for each one. This seems counter productive and time consuming.
I have searched far and wide for good programming technique for larger labview programs and I have only been able to find the most basic advice such as "Use subVIs" or "Use a state machine" and all the examples I can find are laughably simple.
I can reduce my program to 3 while loops. One captures Events and gives commands on a queue, another takes those queued items and performs actions, and the third performs data gathering, plotting, and saving once each second. This starts out good, but by the time I've incrementally added all the features my company requires, each loop is a huge interconnected mess of wires with no clear way to section them up into subVIs.
A solution would be to make everything either a global variable or FG but as a native C programmer I was always taught to avoid globals. And if I went the FG route I would need somewhere around 100+ different VIs just to handle them all.
Is there something I'm missing? I want to know how you pass data between the various loops of your program. Do you use one big cluster? Globals? FGs? None of these options seem ideal to me but maybe I'm missing something obvious.
If anyone has any advice for me, it would be well appreciated. Better yet, if anyone has, or could point me to, an example program exhibiting an ideal programming structure for a project similar to the one I mentioned above, I would love to take some time to look it over. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up some good tips and tricks for keeping my main VI to one screen size, and effectively passing all the required data to all the subVIs that require it.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Aaron

Do you try to identify related information that can be used by a whole set of related subVI's?  For example, you might have several parameters related to a specific piece of hardware.  These can be grouped into a typedef cluster (or, even better, an object with all the related subVIs part of the object class).  You definitely don't want to be using custom cluster for each subVI, but well designed subVI's shouldn't have more than a few custom inputs once related information is grouped.
As for data in the loops, I usually just have one big cluster in a shift register.  This is never itself sent into a subVI, but parts of it (the typedef clusters or objects from above) are unbundled and sent into subVI's.  It's basically just serves as a cleaner way of holding all the parameters.  I'll attach an image of a "state" of the program I'm now working on.  There are only a few wires unbundled in each individual "state", even though the full cluster (the top shift register in the image) has 20-odd components (and some of them are subclusters/objects that themselves have many components, such as the "Selected Record" object in the image which itself is a 15 element cluster).
BTW, I'm using the "JKI state machine toolkit" which you might want to look at to get some ideas.

  • Require technical advice for designing XML database

    Dear Fellows
I need your technical advice for the way storing the XML files into the database. We have experiments that produces more than 300 XML files. I want to store them in the database. There should be a mechanism (way) to store XML files related to one experiments. I can not change or update anything in the XML files to put something like counter or anything.
Can you please advice me or give any hint that how should i store experiments with their XML files with their unique key. Another thing when i have new experiment XML files to store how to store them
any help and any hint will help in a great manner

  • Generic advice for roaming wifi?

I just stayed at a hotel which offered free wifi access to guests. When I tried to connect, however, I was unable to do so. Reception smugly told me that "I seemed to be having great difficulty with this" and that I should bring them my device as it was "really very simple" but finally even the hotel admitted they had no clue. (Less than me, I think.)
I was assured this worked great on Windows 7 and iPads.
I've seen threads on not dissimilar topics but I've not found any general solutions. The problem was that I was meant to open a browser and get automatically redirected to a login page. Either on opening the browser (Windows) or on trying to search (iPad). They couldn't tell me the url and the magic failed in Firefox, chromium and Konqueror. I also tried taking my firewall down completely, rebooting etc. No go.
I usually connect using wicd. wicd could see the network fine but saw it as being unsecured. I couldn't find a way for it to connect. It could try, but there was nowhere to put in the login and password so it kept failing to get a connection.
The frustrating thing about this is that I couldn't search for suggestions and try them out because I didn't have a connection. So all I can do is ask for advice in retrospect and for prospective advice for when/if this happens again.
Is it possible to connect to this kind of setup? If so, are there instructions somewhere? And/or anything I should install (while I have a connection) to be prepared (for when I don't)?

There are many "professionally managed" wireless networks around here by companies with names like "wireless solutions" which is clearly an attempt at humor: a sarcastic reversal of what they actually are.  These all use that sort of browser log in.  I've found a vast majority of these redirect to the login page if you attempt to go to "google.com".  But they will not redirect from any other attempted url's that I've found.
Perhaps they assume that google is everyone's homepage.  Or perhaps they don't assume anything and are just clueless.  But this works a majority of the time.  An exception is at the Barnes and Noble stores: I have to attempt to go to barnesandnoble.com to log in.
As some off-topic humor, a handful of cafe's I've been to have good WPA2 networks, but they broadcast the password in their essid.  This is a bit like getting a nice safe, and engraving the combination on the door so you don't forget it.

  • Hey guys apple need to sort this issue people are buying new phones here and the sound not playing from there phones like alot of people are having the same problem apple are ignoring it. I went to an apple shop for them to want 150 pounds of me

Hey guys apple need to sort this volume problem out soon like there is guys who have just bought new phones and it is happening to there's.i went to an apple shop for them to tell me I had to pay £150 to get it replaced I don't want a replacement so clearly they know what the problem is apple need to review this site and act fast before they loose alot of customers.

If you just purchased your iPhone, it will still be under warranty and Apple will replace it at no charge assuming that there hasn't been any damage due to abuse. So anyone with a new iPhone will be taken care of. If your iPhone is out of warranty and it has a hardware problem, then you have to pay the replacement charge regardless of what the problem is. Apple does not repair individual iPhones, they replace them. If you want the iPhone repared rather than replaced, you'll need to send the iPhone to an independent repair shop.
Since you don't say what "volume problem" you're referring to, though, we can't say whether or not this is indeed a hardware problem. Perhaps if you'll detail the problem and what steps you've taken to try and correct it, someone can offer advice.
    Regards.

  • Advice for Migration Assistant Needed

I will be transferring my data from my current powerbook to a new mbp. I've read some posts recommending not using migration assistant, so I'm looking for the best advice concerning this. I have no non Apple applications or software on my pb other than Camino browser and the Macjanitor utility. I could manually transfer my itunes music, contents of my documents folder, iphoto library, etc. I've done this before using my ipod when I set up my imac, but the mbp will replace my powerbook and I want it set up exactly the same way so it seems like using migration assistant would be far less tedious. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
    John

Interestingly, only this week I got a new MBP and move all my stuff from my old PowerBook G4 (Titanium) with no problems.
I simply plugged in the power on the MBP, booted it. Waited for the intro to finish, then clicked on the option to copy stuff from a previous machine. Plugged in the FireWire and rebooted the PB in Target Disk mode, selected the items I wanted to copy (all) and after about 30 - 40 mins, everything was done and I had 2 identical desktops. Everything just worked, it even copied my trash.
Since then over the course of the week, I have noticed one or two apps etc that will not run on the Intel machine. All I have done is download the Universal binary for them, deleted the old PPC one I had, installed the new one and all go.
I was amazed how easy it was, everything I had copied but it also left what was already on the MBP in addition. I got all my email in Mail including all folders and prefs, all Safari prefs, history and autofills and favourites, all items in my Dock and Menu bar, all there perfectly. All my documents, folders, items on my desktop. It was just perfect.
I have had no issues and no perfomance issues. The odd thing does not run as fast as I would expect but I assume this is due to some things being PPC and running using Rosetta slows them. The odd thing that was TOO slow or would not work at all, I just located the Universal Binary for and away I go.
So I would say 150%, use the assistant. I used the one at boot up (set up assistant or something) but I assume migration assistant does the same thing.

  • Any advice for teacher struggling with scratch disk problems?

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone out there has advice for me. I am a Media Teacher with very little technical expertise. We use Premiere Elements 4.0 in my school. This is accessible to students on the school network but is located on a separate drive. I am experienceing a lot of problems at the moment which I suspect may be to do with having multiple users. The students work in groups. Some of them do not seem to be able to access their current coursework - a scratch disk error message comes up and they are asked if they want to locate the scratch disks into their own area of the school network. As personal space is very limited, they always say no, and then cannot access the projects. Other students do not have this problem. The scratch disks are located by default to the same drive as the main work.
A further problem is that in one project, the clips in the second half of the project seem to be 'offline'. I have seen this before and have been able to fix it by locating the clip in the project menu and using 'locate media' to reconnect it. However, this time round, the clip can be seen and runs perfectly in the project menu. It also looks as normal on the timeline. It is only in the viewing window that it comes up as offline. The locate media option isn't available. If I save as an avi, the offline message appears, so the project burns as it appears in the viewing window. If I drag the clips down from the project area and reconstruct, everything plays normally until I close the project down and open it again, when the clips are back offline. I can tell something strange is going on because the project is loading very quickly - it was taking a couple of minutes previously.
Any advice at all would be welcome, as we are near the end of the coursework and the projects we can't access represent a term's work for the students!

You may need to contact Adobe Tech Support for your specific needs.
Is Premiere Elements installed on your network or on the C drives of each computer? The program must be installed on the C drive in order to work properly. You can't run the program from a network installation, and that could explain why you're having the problems you're having.
If you've got Premiere Elements installed on your C drive, you should be able to access your video files if they're stored on the network. But this depends on how your network is set up. It may not be possible for all of your students to access material out on your network drive and remain connected to it the same way every time you open your project.
In other words, you're using the program in ways it's not designed to be used. This is why you may need to contact Tech Suport and see if they can recommend a solution, short of each student having their own complete installation on each computer.

  • Cable advice for iMac PowerPC G4 (3.3)

    Hi,
I have this old iMac PowerPC G4 (3.3), the one that has a base station like half a football. I need to get a cable from this to my new projector, which is a DLP Theme, it has a multitude of port options, from S-video, VGA/Scart / Ypb pr, HDMI (V1.3) & finally Y/G, PB/b,Pr/R, Video but only one option from the iMac (I think anyway!). When I look at the Apple store there are many options, can anyone give some advice for the right cable to buy?

You need something like this: http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8639G/A
Might depend on the age of your iMac - don't know if the miniVGA connector
    changed over its lifetime.

  • Im after so advice for itunes!

im after so advice for itunes! so, when i buy my music from dj sites such as beatport, i download it and it loads straight into itunes as i want it to so it syncs with traktor!
however when i download sample packs for logic if i play them or audition any of the sounds they to load in to itunes which i dont want cause i dont want it clogged up with loads of little samples, plus its takin up extra space on my harddrive.
so what i want is to have all samples on an external harddrive and be able to play them with out them copying on to itunes. so when i open logic there all saved away from the mac, i can play them etc and they wont jump onto the mac.
aswell as this i want to have multiple itunes librarys saved to the external harddrive. one for my albums and band music etc. and one where i can save all my dj music to before i drop it onto the mac library for traktor.
    i hope this makes sense.
    cheers

so is there some way of making Quick time the default player for an external harddrive?
Drusif, not really.  As Christopher notes, you can set the default by file type, but not by drive location.
What I suggest you do is to set QuickTime (or some other non-iTunes player) as the default for all music files.  Then, when you find something you plan to keep, add it to your iTunes library.

  • Starting-point advice for buying/building an external HD?

My due diligence leads me to conclude that this is a whole lot more complicated than I thought it would be. Or I just don't know the difference between what I really need to know and what are just options.
One example: I want to get an enclosure and a drive separately but I don't know -- and don't know how much I need to care -- about the difference between IDE and serial ATA.
I wonder if someone could point me (and apparently many others) toward a top-level resource that says simply, "Here's all you really need to know if you're getting an external HD for the first time"?
The above would be great. But if you're willing to dig into my specific questions here, even better.
-- I obviously need to get an enclosure that supports bootable Firewire. I've seen advice dating back at least to 2001 that one should look for "Oxford 911." Is this still true, that if I want a bootable drive then the enclosure had better explicitly claim Oxford 911? Is there anything else I could look for to know whether the drive I put in it will be bootable?
-- I really really really want a fanless enclosure. Aside from being sure the case is well designed for heat dissipation, should I favor a lower RPM drive -- say 5400 vs 7200? Any other suggestions? I want the drive to be on and available all the time (for other, possibly remote users), but because it will not be in active use most of the time, can I assume that power management will spin down that drive, thus minimizing heat concerns?
-- Are the 3.5 and 2.5 fundamentally different interfaces, or can I get an enclosure with which I can use both drive types? (Minor concern, but it might be nice if I can plug in displaced notebook drives.)
-- Generally, other than the issue of booting via Firewire, what am I supposed to look for to be sure I get an enclosure and drive that works? Or are the array of options and the wildly diverse prices simply options and prices, and if I get a drive that plugs in to my plugin, for the most part it'll at least work?

I think the Oxford chipsets are still the cats meow over the rest of them. I have never had a problem with my enclosures containing them. IDE vs SATA, while more SATA external drives are coming out, you need an expansion card to provide the proper port. Most firewire cases support the IDE drives without issue.
Fanless shouldn't be a problem. There are many cases out there. My vendor of choice is Other World Computing (www.macsales.com). They are a good company and wonderful to work with. The faster the drive, yes the more heat that can be generated. This depends on what the drive is used for and for how long during sustained periods.
I have not seen a case that deals with both the 3.5 and the 2.5 drives - doesn't mean that one couldn't exist, I just haven't looked for them. Maybe over at the firewire depot? They have a large selection of all kinds of cases.
What I have noticed between the 3's and 2's, is that the 2s use much less power and therefore can be powered by the firewire bus. It is nice when I go in the field and just have to take the case and FW cable, no need to worry about hauling along the power supply as with the larger 3's.
If you need portability, the 2's are the ways to go. If attached to the desktop go with the 3.5's. They are generally a little faster also. From your posting it sounds like the 3.5 is the way to go. I have one of each, but both serve different purposes as stated above.
