Advice need : MSI 865PE Neo3-f

I have MSI 865PE Neo3-F which is 775 platform, running with P4 506 (bus 533) + DDR400, it does overclockable on core cell utility. When I tried to overclock via BIOS (lastest one V5.3), I see that AGP/PCI bus is unlockable, my ram cannot set CL to 3 (only 2 and 2.5 avaliable), when I save changes and quit bios the screen goes blank and have to reset BIOS, even increase FSB only 1     Does anyone experienced these things. THX

Hmm, first time i hear that...Asus usually overclocks from snail speed to 2*snail speed
Main thing is, it makes u happy

  • Advice needed regarding 865PE Neo2 FISR

I intend to order this motherboard either tomorow or Monday morning (depends if I'll find the VGA card I'm looking after). However I heard some disturbing rumors form some friends and so I thought this is the place to ask for advice:
    1) which BIOS is the best to use? I heard the 1,3 BIOS causes a lot of problems regardign stability and that it had being pulled from MSI's site.. which is a lie as I can see it here!
Is anyone suing it and what's your experience with it?
Should I use the 1.2 version instead ? Because I've heard that 1.2 does not allow you to disable the auto-overclockign feature... which might causde lock-ups if I chose to fine-tune the OC myself.
    2) I intend to run a RAId array . Can I boot from this array or I 'll ahve to buy a PATa disk as well?
More so... can I boot from either the INTEL controlled RAID  or from the Promise RAID as well??? (because documentation on the Promise RAID controller is very thin... I'ver read the manuals and they are NOT at all informative on the matter. So I'm wondering: how do you set up the system so that it'll boot from the Promise RAIDs?? And ..is it better to boot from the Promise raids or from the ICH5R ones?
Because I think the Promise controller routs the data through the PCI so there is a  theoretical limit of 133MB/s where as the ICH5R goes directly through the Northbridge chip so this is not a problem!
    3) Is it true that this board has some trouble cooperationg with an ATI 9700PRo based VGA card? I've reas of a few cases  of malfunctions especially in overclocked systems.
Thanks in advance for any answers.

    koumooo,
I´ll give you my experience after just a couple of days with my new 865PE Neo2FIS2R board.
What I´ve found is that it´s a good Board with high potential, but also that it requires quite a bit of work  to get there and fully get reveny of that potential.
However, My main interest is to get a stable system, not only with default values but with OC as well.
To be honest I don´t really care so much about PAT and DOT
since I only can reach to "Fast" and "Captain levels right now with PAT and DOT, but What was important for me was that when OC to 250FSB it was possible to lower AGP/PCI
values ( otherwise system crash) ) to 67/33 which made it possible to run a stable system at 3.01GHz and a mem.speed
    at 4910 in Sisoft Sandra.
    Thats good enough for me..........
Maybe I give more attention to PAT and DOT when I get high
performance mem and a High Perf. VGA card and hopefully a 1.4 bios-update.
So again, I think it´s a good board if you use it this way.

  • Msi 865pe neo3-v bios flashing problem

Ok so i tried to flash the bios and i succeeded but the problem is that i flashed with winflash, bios v5.2 and from my understanding that version is for the boards that support dual channel cpu-s. The problem is that now when i try to flash the bios with version 1.2 it tells me that the size does not mach the installed bios size or something like that. I would like to add that now with v5.2 i have a lot less options (settings) in my bios. How can i flash back to 1.2?

Stop BIOS flashing and tell us what you are trying to do.

heh , Guess I forgot to mention some things...
I have put my new card into a system to make sure it works , And it does.
I have cleared the CMOS and tried and still don't work.
As far as the ram it could stop one video card from booting up and let another boot up fine?  I will try it just in case.  But anyone else have any suggestions?

  • Loud Fan noise when using Pentium 4 LGA 775 with 865PE Neo3-F

    Hi,
I have just bought a new Pentium 4 LGA 775 - 2.8A GHz with MSI 865PE Neo3-F motherboard and realized that the fan is simply very very noisy.
When I boot it up, it started with around 2500 RPM and 30C, but soon after I logged into Windows, the fan starts to speed up to 4900 RPM with the CPU temperature at 60C.
I asked my friend who uses the same combination of processor and motherboard, he said his fan only rotates at 3000 RPM, with CPU temperature at 55C, and it is NOT noisy at all.
I have tried CoreCenter and SpeedFan, but none of them can slow down the fan.
Any idea how I can maybe slow down the CPU when I don't need so much power, or slow down the fan?
Is there something wrong with my installation of the CPU Fan maybe?
    Thanks a lot.

its bound to be noisey thrashing round at that speed.
You may want to think about optimizing the CPU coolng with some ducting directly onto the top of the CPU fan.
I presume the heatsink is seated onto the CPU with some thermal compound.
check this thread out for some tips on ducting, and search threads for similar topic

My CPU fan is constantly at 2200rpm , but I am sucking in cold air from outside of the house.

  • What should I think for 865PE Neo3-F and 3.0 ghz?

    with this mobo
MSI "865PE Neo3-F" i865PE Chipset Motherboard For Intel LGA 775 CPU
    and this CPU
      Intel LGA 775 Pentium 4 540J 3.2 GHz, 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache
what should I exspect for a super stable overclock?  Does the motherboard have tons of options?
Im going to be de clocking the memory so I can get a higher clock speed.  Let me know if you know how well the options are.  Thanks.
I hope at least 3.6     (It will have  extra cooling    40 degree datacenter)

There's not only MSI make 775 with old chipset.
DFI even make 775 with 875 chipset. And in my country (in a mag), they complain it's faster than 915. -yes, I think it's right, no surprise-
I think it's not about OC but more about price. As the chipset is cheaper, and use AGP + DDR1, so you can still use most -expensive- part of your previous system.

  • [Other 865 Series] 865PE Neo3-F (SATA and PATA problems),please help,thx

    Hi
I have MSI 865PE Neo3-F mainboard and I have a few little problems with Neo.

    My second:
I want to connect also P-ATA HDD,but BIOS don´t see him.
What would be IDE settings in BIOS and also jumper settings on PATA HDD and DVD when I want use:
SATA as Primary Master (system disk)
    PATA as Secondary Master
    DVD-ATA IDE as Secondary Slave
    My last:
What I should installing when I want to use all advantages of SATA HDD and what would be BIOS settings?
PLEASE HELP IT IS URGENTLY,CAUSE I HAVE TO WORK TO MY SCHOOL
    ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
    Thank you

At the first thank you for your reply.
    Yes it works.
Sorry I didn´t post my OS.My OS is XP (with SP2,now).

    DVD-RW Plextor 716AK
After installing Service Pack 2 windows shows that HDD has 300GB,but I created two partitions before (C:\ [30GB] and D:\ [100GB] in windows setup) and now (after install SP2 E:\ [170GB]) one partition in Windows.Problem how do I put together last two partitions (D:\ and E:\) to one partition?
so if I right understand after this settings in BIOS:
    Native Mode
ATA Configuration - PATA only (or SATA-only)

    PATA Keep enabled - yes
    PATA channel selection - both
and what about another two options in this menu?what are the settings?(somtehing about 1st channel and so on)
    connections looks like that:
on  IDE ATA100 cable from IDE1 will be connect HDD ATA100 as Master and DVD as slave?
on SATA cable from SATA1 will be connect HDD SATA?
How system knows which one from two Masters HDD is System disk?from Boot menu?
Is some page on the web where can I find closer explain of IDE (SATA) settings for MB MSI?

  • Need help with MSI P45 Neo3-FR

I haven't been here in a long time. My old board (just replacing it) worked perfectly for almost 4 years after I ironed out the kinks (MSI 865p Neo2-FISR) but I finally decided to upgrade my rig, but here comes the headaches...
I bought the following for my new setup:
MSI P45 Neo3-FR (came with BIOS 1.3 installed)
    2GB (2x1) Corsair Dominator 6400C4D
    MSI Radeon HD 4850
Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 (I want to overclock it hehe)
    Lite-On SATA CD/DVD-RW
    Old Hardware being used:
    Antec TruPower 550W EPS12 (single rail 36amps on +12)
Cooler Master Centurion (forgot what model) Case
    Logitech USB Keyboard
    Logitech MX518 USB Mouse
    2x120mm fans
2xMaxtor SATA 80GB HDDs (note: NOT SATA II, and I want to run these in RAID 0 off the ICH10R, this is specifically why I bought this board I was going to go with the P43-Neo3 over this, but the inclusion of RAID sold me on it)
1xMaxtor SATA 160GB HDD (note: NOT SATA II)
Aside some trouble I had with the Intel HSF installation was a breeze. Everything is in. I wanted to run everything stock first. Jumped into the BIOS and set the following:
    SATA Controller - RAID
    DRAM Voltage - 2.1v
    Drive Layout:
    SATA1 - 80GB Maxtor
    SATA2- 80GB Maxtor
    SATA7 - Optical Drive
    SATA8 - 160GB Maxtor
First power on to get into the BIOS was quick. After setting SATA to RAID, POST will hang at Auto-Detecting ACHI Port 1....then find HDD after about 20-30 seconds. And it will repeat itself for Port 2. So its taking me close to a minute (I might be exagerrating but it sure isn't quick and long enough to irritate me having to keep booting) just to POST and even access the BIOS.
Tried to use my current Windows XP install, got to the Windows XP Splash screen and it rebooted. Tried again, with super long ass POST, again rebooted at the splash screen. Said, fine I'll reinstall XP.
While browsing here I forgot where I read about the SATA and long posts, so I changed my 2x80GBs to SATA3 and SATA4, it no longer takes a minute to POST, goes quick as normal.
Set Optical to boot, go into the Windows XP Install screen, F6 for custom drivers, made a RAID disc using three sources (1. RAID drivers from MSI Website, 2. RAID drivers from MSI CD included with Motherboard, 3. RAID Drivers from Intel website) and each time at a certain point I'd get a BSOD.
Tried again by moving my last HDD/Optical to the ICH10 and disabled the Jmicron. Same, BSOD.
Switched off RAID in the BIOS and set it to IDE. AGain BSOD at XP Install.
Started to think it was a Memory issue, ran Memtest both sticks passed.
One thing I noticed in the BIOS, it has my RAM clocked at 1066. Everything is on auto minus the voltage, but I didn't think it would affect it. So I changed the Ratio from auto to 1:2 (800mhz CPU:800mhz DRAM) but still BSOD everytime I try to install Windows.
This is getting frustrating. I've run out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Read here how to do it:
    >>> Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD<<<
    >>> Slipstreamed Windows XP CD Using SP2<<<
Other option is borrow such installation disk from friends.
I moved away from my "friends" and none PC literate, so I'd be better off driving to the store and buying Vista at this point. Haha.
Okay, going to try this...sounds like that project I started a whiles back but got lazy.
Thanks guys, I'll report any results.

  • MSI 865PE MB and Geforce 2 vid cards

    Hi!
I'm building a new system and using the MSI 865PE Neo2-LS motherboard.  To save money, I was going to temporarily use my old Asus V7700 Geforce 2 GTS card in it.  This card says it is 4x/2x AGP, but the 865PE says it will only work with an 8x/4x and a card that uses 1.5 volts.
I can't find any information about the power requirements for the Geforce 2.  Additionally the card seems on the edge of compatibility with its 4x/2x rating.
Any advice as to whether it's safe to use it or not?
    Thanks!
    Al

if the VGA output is to your right and the AGP BUS is towards you then the pin is the 2'nd one on the right side.
Note that the pins are set in two levels in an interleaved fashion, the 1'st is lower and the one you need is on the higher level.
In AGP X2 cards the pin might be compleatly missing, so if the pin isn't there don't use the card.

  • Unable to detect Hyper Threading of CPU SL6WE 3.2 in MSI-865PE Neo2

Hi! I am new to this forum and need some help. I have just installed a  Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz Northwood SL6WE 478 800MHz/512k . I bought this on e-bay and understand that this cpu supports hyper threading. I have enabled hyper threading in the bios, but only see one cpu in Widows System Properties and only one cpu in Windows Task Manager. I had a 2.6 cpu installed previously, no hyper threading. My motherboard is an MSI-865PE Neo2 version 1.1, 2GB Ram ( 4x512 ?), Thermaltke TR2-430W power supply, Freezer 4 Arctic Cooler, Nvidia GeForce 6600, LG DVD RAM burner, 16x DVD ROM, WD 250 gig and an Hitachi 80 gig hard drive. I also used Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste (after using Arcticclean and Surface Purifier). Have I missed somethig? Would appreciate help in solving why I have no hyper threading.

Turbo boots ok. Normal setting disabled PAT.
    200 2.5-3-3-7 Turbo PAT on    4.6GB/s
    200 2.5-3-3-7 Normal PAT off  4.2GB/s

You should get close to or above 6GB/s at

Maybe something is running in the background

Well, you have to test some more, maybe a

  • MSI 865PE NEO2-V showing wrong RAM timings

    Hi
I have a MSI 865PE NEO2-V motherboard with Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMs now and try to put the timings of the RAM to 2-3-3-6 in the bios.
According to http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair...h_results.html it should work ok...but its not.
When i check the timings with CPU-Z it shows 3-4-4-8 instead.
    The SPD is 3-3-3-8.
I have checked so they are in Dual channel and i have put the RAM voltage to 2.75V after i tried with the default voltage, but to no avail.
To be extra certain i ran Everest Ultimate and it showed the exact timings.
The RAM run fine with StressPrime and Prime95 but i get bad results in SiSoft Sandras RAM benchmarks.
    What is going on????

    Hi
    Yeah, it get slow results.
    I have a Intel Prescott 3.2Ghz with FSB800.
I see now that the link uses Java script, its in Corsairs search engine on their site.
    Their recomendations for the set of RAM i have is: TWINX2048-3200C2 / DDR-400 (XMS-3200C2) / 2-3-3-6 .
I have tried to set the timings as you said but it still runs at 3-4-4-8 whatever i set it at.
I have it running at 2-3-3-6 on another motherboard so i think it must be some settings in the BIOS that i set wrong on this one, but i cant figure it out.
Could it be that somethings wrong with the Performance Mode (MAT) settings?
I tried it on and off, I have also reseted the BIOS to default and even removed the CMOS battery for a while.
I paste all the info from the Corsair site here:

  • MSI 945p Neo3, which pci-e does it have?

    Hi
I have a rather old MSI 945p Neo3 motherboard, and my graphics card just broke down. As my computer is old, and money is limited, I've decided to take the budget approach to buying a new graphics card, but I need to know if it will be compatible with my old motherboard. From what I understand, the 945p Neo3 uses a first generation PCI-E slot, and while PCI-E cards usually are backwards compatible, I've heard of people who have had problems with the very first generation of PCI-E (1.0a), while the slightly newer first generation PCI-E slots work (1.1). The card that I'm looking at is a ATI Radeon HD 5450 (which is the second cheapest card I can find at the moment). Does anyone know if this card will work on my aging computer?
